Hi everyone, let's get rolling.
Thanks Bill love the Chat! Please tell me these aren't the Broncos of 2007 getting beat by 49 ers at home and not the 2008 Broncos losing their last 3 games esp Buffalo at home. Please tell me these Broncos are not going to crash and win against at least 2 out of the last 3!
We'll see, but I don't think McDaniels will allow that to happen. Denver has beaten the temas it has suppoaed to be beat this season other than Washington but everything changed when Orton was hurt.
In your opinion, what type of runner is Cedric Benson? Can the Chargers defense contain him?
He can wear down opponents. San Dieog has to stay on him.
WILL THE RAIDERS SELECT A QUARTERBACK IN THIS YEARS DRAFT, OR WILL THEY GIVE GRADKOWSKI A CHANCE TO BE THE QB OF THE FUTURE.
I think they may be leaning towadr Gradkowski, but it is early.
Bill, Its 2012 Do Pioli/Haley have the Chiefs in playoff contention?
They better be, or that will likely be their last year in KC.
Hey Bill,Thanks for your work on AFC west blog.I have two if that's alright. First, is the new stadium in Dallas as over the top as people say? Second, Has Ochocinco lost his mind?
Thanks, Steve:1. Yes, way much so.2. Probably so.
Rumor has it that Vick may be a Raider next year. Any truth to that? I think it would be a great pick up for the Raaaaiders.
I don't know. I think if Oakland wanted him, it would have signed him during the summer. But it could be a fit.
i kinda want to revisit the trade denver made with the seahawks. denvers 2010 first rd pick for seattles 2009 2nd rd pick which denver got alphonso smith.. Was it a good trade now that denver gave the seahawks a late rounder even tho smith hasnt lived up to the hype that surrounded him??
The Broncos definitely traded the right pick. They love Smith. He has ben slow to produce, but they really haven't needed him to be a star yet. Give him a chance.
Bill, does JaMarcus Russell's downfall help Lane Kiffin's grievance? Who can forget the "He is a great player. Get over it." line? It was funny then, even funnier now.
I don't think it helps the grievance ... But it is a bit funny, yes.
Bill, the Chiefs - Browns game has major draft implications. Who do you like in this titanic battle?
Lets go with the home team in this huge, huge battle of the titans. It's what December football is all about.
Hey Bill, thanks for the Chat, any chance Oakland pulls off the upset in Denver. It seems like they play hard without Russell and against good teams.
Sure, there is always a chance. Oakland has to stop the run to have a chance.
what can we expect from Frye going against the Broncos?
He'll be prepared and his team will play hard for him. But don't expect to see a huge arm.
He'll be prepared and his team will play hard for him. But don't expect to see a huge arm.
You say the Broncos only need 10 wins but I think they need to win out. Why would I be wrong?
Well, it won't hrut to win out, but Denver should be fine if it wins 10, espcially if the Rvens lose another one.
Do you see Denver placing the francise tag on Brandon if he doesn't resign on his own accord?
I still don't know where this one is going. I don't know if Denver wants him.I think time will still tell in this deal.
It looks like Brandon Siler has made the most of the injuries to the Chargers LB Corp. What does mean for Kevin Burnett? Will Siler be the main starter?
Hey Enrique, I think Siler is the goods. He is a playmaker. There is room for Burnett but Siler could be a long-term starter in San Diego.
Do you think the chiefs regret cutting pollard and replacing him with the often injured mike brown. Pollard has been great with the texans and brown is decent at best
I think there was room for both Pollard and Brown in KC. Yes, the Pollard cut was a mistake. He is a good, young player. The Chiefs aren't good enough to let those type of players go. Haley loves Brown, but he is a older player who won't be around forever.
Derrick Johnson has been riding the bench all year because he is lazy but still has a lot of talent. The chiefs clearly are unhappy with him, what can they get for him in a trade?
Probably a second-day pick.
Hey Bill-Do you see the Broncos targeting a QB in the draft....maybe Sam Bradford if he falls?
I don't see Denver drafts a QB early next year. I think it tries to stick with Orton.
I see this Chargers-Bengals matchup as only being Round 1 with Round 2 coming in the second round and also in San Diego like matchup 1. Do you see this same scenero?
Just a feeling but I think San Diego plays New England at home in the playoffs. I see Baltimore making the playoffs and knocking off the Bengals.
Hey bill love the blog. With Matt Cassel's recent performances and overall season how concerned should the chiefs be with their qb situation. Do you think the Chiefs should draft another qb maybe in one of the middle rounds of the draft for insurance?
No, I think he's fine. He needs more help around him.
Did Gradkowski do enough to make him the favorite for the starting Qb job next year
I think he did enough to get a serious look in camp.
Saying the Broncos make the playoffs as the wild card irregardless of the outcome, how do you see the QB situation playing out in Denver in the future?
I see Orton being the future in the next 2-3 years. He's a great fit for McDaniels' offense.
Semi Afc West question ! With vinny out in washington and allen in as gm does shannahan still have a good shot to be there new hc or maybe gruden?
I think the owner loves Shanahan there. But I think Shanahan would want his own guys there.
If the Chargers beat the Colts in the playoffs AGAIN then I believe you have to say that this would be the ultimate confedence destroyer for the Colts. That would prove that the Chargers own them like no other and the Colts just can't beat them and never will beat them.
Yah, pretty much, Roger.
BW-Enjoyed your work since your Denver days--If you are the Broncos and you are fortunate to get into the Playoffs, what is a better match-up for you--the Bengals or the suddenly average Pats?
They'd both be on he road so I say Cincy. You just don't want to face Belichick and Brady in January.
Only is Jamarcus was a little faster he would be great right?
Who do you think will win the Chargers Bengals game? Do you see San Diego winning the rest of their games?
I think the Christmas game at Tenn. is the Chargers' biggets test. But the Benglas game is the msot important so if the Chargers get by the Bengals they should be fine.
how good is Trevor Scott as a linebacker because i thought he was a good enough DE to be a week one starter
I think he is a work in progress at linebacker. He does have a nice skill set and he could be a player to watch in the future.
Sorta out of the conference, but since Gruden and Allen have been together since the Oakland days, do you see Gruden leaving MNF to go to the Redskins?
You have to think it's a real possibility. They';ve been together in two other cities.
Bill, do you think Jamarcus would be starting if he didn't do that recent interview where he deflected blame for his play to teammates who need to pick up their play? I can't see how anyone in that locker room would be behind him after that.
That didn't help, but I think his horrid play against Redskins doomed him.
If charles fixes his fumbling problems, and KC improves its O-line how good do you think he can be in a full-time starter role. The guy makes some BIG plays.
I think so. Charles has some nice skills.
things will be turned around in K.C next year what do you think
They need a lot fo help, especially on the offensive line.
What concerns do you have about the Chargers defense going forward?
Stopping the run.
How do the Broncos staff feel about Tom Brandstater going forward?
He's a guy who could develop down the line. But I don't think he's the starter next year or anything.
Hey Bill. Second question of the day. Do the Broncos have a chance of stealing the division from the Chargers like the Chargers did to the Broncos last year?
I don't think so. The Chargers are playing very, very well these days.
The Chiefs lead the league in drops by WRs. So who of the group they've got should they keep, and are there any future FAs who can actually hold on to the ball to pursue?
I think they can't give up on Bowe and Chambers. Depsite he drops, they are talented. But another receiver is defintely needed in Kansas City.
What do you see Denver addressing in the draft/FA next year? DL, OL, P and LB?
Yeah, I think you hit it, Jamison.
Hi Bill, great job. While it was great to see Marshall set the record, it did show that Orton only seems to be comfortable throwing the ball to him, and no one else. Royal, Stokely, Scheffler, etc, don't you think they should spread the wealth, we have weapons, why not deploy them all?
Look, Marhsall is a awesome and getting him the ball is a greta idea. But the other guys have to get more involved.
Great column Bill! The Chargers seem to be flying under the radar coming into the playoffs this year. The Colts do NOT want to play them given the past history. How do you like the Chargers chances of reaching the Super Bowl?
Thanks, Chris, I think there are two teams in the AFC right now that can make the playofs: Indy and San Diego. The Chargers ae not scard of the Colts. So, yes, I think San Diego could make it to Miami.
Bill, When can we expect a resolution between Crazy Al and Lane Kiffin? Hasn't Godell already heard testimony of both sides, why is this taking so long?
Checked into that today, jay. it's still a ways off. But it is being reviewed. Lots of paperwork to go through, I hear.
What's up with Peyton Hillis, will he see the field this week? It baffles me why he doesn't get more time, especially since he can actually catch the ball unlike Moreno and Buckhalter.
With Buckhalter likely out and Moreno banged up, we may see more of Hillis this week.
Hey Bill I know I'm pushing my luck. But do you see a possible Round 3 between the Chargers and Broncos and the Broncos coming out on top in Round 3?
We could see it in round 2. That would be a fun week.
Chargers have to grab one of the big DT's in the 1st round this year right? Cody would be great
I think its time, yes. Cody would be a great fit, but I don't think he'll be available when San Diego picks.
What can the Raiders now do with Russell? Is it safe to say that they wasted a #1 pick?
Yes, I think it is safe to say that now, Jibin. The team chose Charlie Frye over Russell. That speaks volumes.
Bill what are the chances of LT returning in 2010? He has shown that he is still money in the red zone. I know his YPC is down but don't you think that can be related to the banged up offensive line? The offensive line of the Chargers was known for its dominance back in his MVP times.
I just get a feeling this is it for LT in San Diego, Patrick. I know it's sad, but I think the end is near.
cody or OT in 1st for chiefs
OT, all the way.
First of all, R.I.P Chris Henry and my prayers go out to his family. As a Chargers fan I will obviously be cheering for my team, however I know that I will cheer the effort put out by the Bengals this weekend. How do you think Marvin Lewis will be able to pull his team together? Thanks, Bill.
Good for you, Brian. Thanks for putting that out there.
Orton played in 90% of the second Chargers-Broncos game and Denver still got crushed. Would a playoff rematch go any different?
The game was 13-0 when they came in. Orton was not the problem. I thinak healthy Orton makes that gmae a lot closer. I'm not saying Denver would win in San Diego in January, but it would be closer than the last time the two teams played.
Bill, what is the Chargers' biggest weakness? And who in the playoffs (Indy, NE, Cincy, Denver) could best exploit it?
The run defense. Cincy and Demnver good run gams.
If you were AJ Smith and could only afford to bring back two guys from a list of Gates, Jackson, Sproles, Merriman. Who do you pick and why? I would pick Gates as the only "lock". Your thoughts?
Gates and Jackson. They are stas in their prime.
Based on their current pieces, McD, and the possibility of a few FAs each year---can this Denver team be a SB contender in the next 2-3 years? Please!
I think McDaniels has shown he has this program going in the right direction. It should contend.
You said Denver may not want Marshall. How couldn't they?!
Not a huge price considering his off-field past.
Great hour, folks, as always. Enjoy the big game this weekend in the AFC West. Talk to you next week.
