Thanks for joining today's chat, its an exciting time on the recruiting trail. A lot of big name prospects have come off the board recently with more to come now down the stretch. Lets get to some questions!
Hey do you think the Tide will land corner John Fulton?
He is committing live on ESPN during Under Armour game. Last night he said his hats on the table will be Alabama, South Carolina, Florida, LSU and Georgia
Think its down to the Tide and Gamecocks and I would go with the Tide
Im not sold on Martin sticking with Cal any chance he switches again?
I was surprised myself. Think he wants to play LB and we have said all along we don't see it at the college level with his hips.
Cal plays a 3-4 defense which would make Martin more of a hybrid OLB, up on the line a lot not isolated in space. Good fit.
Does Alabama get Chris Dunkley and is Kennan Allen better than Dre KirkPatrick was last year and what position wil Allen play?
Think Dunkley is headed to Gainesville to play for the Gators.
Do not think Allen is in the same class as Kirkpatrick, our No. 1 corner last year. has the same type of size and physicality needed to press and support the run but we do not see the hips or speed Kirkpatrick had coming out of HS. Allen projects more as a safety in our eyes.
What do you think of Arizona's recruiting class? Will not having Mark Stoops hurt us in the future?
They lack real difference makers but have been winning without them. Like the quality 3-stars they have particularly, on O-line with high upside OT Trent Spurgeon
Losing Stoops will hurt the defense more than the Wildcats future recruiting efforts.
How do you think #1 Cornerback demarcus Milliner will fit in at Bama?
Frank, I think this kid has a ton of speed and athleticism but may take a year or two to develop technique. Great player.
Does Marcus Lattimore end up with the Gamecocks?
I would be surprised if he didn't.
What are the chances UT lands Jeffcoat and Darius White? Seems like Mack, if he struggles anywhere in recruiting, has trouble snagging the big fish at the end of the recruiting cycle
Darius White is announcing at the Under Armour game on Jan. 2nd. Think it will come down to Oklahoma and Texas and the instate Longhorns have the best shot. Like their chances with Jeffcoat as well.
Billy, it doesn't look like ND will fill out the remaining coaching staff until early January. How much does this hurt recruiting, both targets and guys that are currently commited?
I think ND did the right job in hiring a coach early, they didn't give a big window for uncertainty around the program. Kelly should keep this class intact.
Why is Miami losing recruits? I just heard Todd Chandler decomitted and just comitted to USF and Louis Nix is going to Notre Dame. Any chance the canes land Seantrel Henderson?
We talked to Chandler this morning, said he's still committed to Miami and that USF is his top school???
He said he will make his official decision on signing day. Don't think they are strongly in the mix for Henderson although Miami is in the picture now.
As great as the Gator recruiting class has been, what other big names look like they will end up in Gainesville as well?
I think they are the team to beat for top DE Ronald Powell and No. 2 WR Dunkley. They could have one of their better classes in a long time.
There are reports that Brandon Willis may decommit from TN and go to Miami due to his father taking a new job in Fla. What is the latest scoop on this situation?
We have heard this and know he is scheduled to visit Miami this weekend and will be making his final decision soon on whether he is sticking with the Vols since he's enrolling early.
It wouldn't shock me if he makes the switch to the Canes soon after the visit, Shannon is an excellent recruiter face-to-face.
JUCO question...What do you know about the two guys that the Vols have landed? Simms and Thompkins?
We did not have Simms rated that high coming out of high school, good short-to-intermediate timing passer. Have not seen updated JUCO film but assume he's improved.
Now that NU lost Gabbert, any QB's that the Husker's are in on?
I don't see anyone significant on their board right now and its getting late with not a lot of wiggle room. The more run oriented offense may have deterred Gabbert but may entice a prominent back down the stretch like Midwest RB and WVU commit Braylon Heard.
CAL recruiting seems to be picking up some steam... Any more inside info?
Cal picked up steam down the stretch last year. Obviously Martin is a significant land and they are strongly in the mix for some good upfront talent in near 4 star OT Kouandjio out of MD and No. 4 DE Odighizuwa
Is Texas still in the mix for Jordan Hicks?
Going to commit on National Signing day and really think it will be a tight race between Texas, OSU and Florida.
What do you think of Sarkisian's initial recruiting class at UW
Sark has done very well in 2010. QB Montana, RB Cooper and WR Kearse form a great offensive nucleus for the future and are system fitting guys.
Cooper is downhill beast and maybe has the best upside and load-back qualities of any RB in this class. Just has to continue filling out.
Any hope for the Orange in the coming years? I am hoping the 10's are better than the 00's were!
James we really like Jeremi Wilkes who recently committed. A quick-footed cover guy who has fallen under the radar. Keep your eye on him and think recruiting in general will pick up.
Gauge Bronco Mildenhall's recruiting at BYU
Think they are in contention for a top-25 class. very deep in quality.
Heaps is a great fit at QB and one of the more polished and college ready signal callers in this class. On defense DE Kaufusi could be a difference maker but has to bounce back from an injury.
Appreciate your time. If Texas gets two out of Hicks, Jeffcoat and White does that make up the #1 class for 2010?
I think Florida will likely get Powell and Dunkley and with that would be very difficult to overtake for the top spot regardless if Texas got a few of those studs you mentioned.
Any other big name guys annoucing at your game?
Dunkley, White, Fulton and DT Uko officially, could have more to follow.
Do you think Corey Grant will play next year or redshirt and what position do you think blake sims will play?
Sims is a sleeper and a smooth, fluid athlete that likely ends up at corner. I could see Grant redshirting with both Ingram and Richardson coming back to carry the load.
what can u tell me about rutgers incoming class fpr 2010? anything we can be high on?
Really not a great class at this point and do not see any big name guys down the stretch. Seems like they have lost a bit of the buzz they once had both on the field and on the trail.
Jordan Thomas out of NY is their best prospect at this point and a talented two way athlete but not a difference maker, likely a solid DB.
How long will it take for Tyler Bray to take over the QB duties in Knoxville?
Would not be surprised if he played early with the Vols current depth but he is also a kid that needs to fill out and physically develop. May get thrown in before he is ready but we really like Bray's upside and overall ability as a passer.
Any big name leans for Oregon left? Also, does being too deep hurt recruiting (only losing TE Dickson on two-deep offense)? Thanks.
Think the Ducks are still at the point where they can't be choosy and will try and sign the best available talent regardless of positional need.
The Ducks are in the mix for a few big name prospects still on the board, including instate DE Odighizuwa
Could tennesse land Christian Jones tht could take ricko mcCoys place
I still like Christian Jones heading to FSU.
Do you see Ivan McCartney committing to the Gators along with Dunkley to fill the WR need?
I still like WVU for McCartney
Hey Bill; What is the deal with Tressel not landing some of the bigger recruits the last couple of years? Seems like he starts off fast but usually doesn't finish well. Other than Pryor, when was the last time he landed a top 150 after December? Seems like a bad sign for Henderson, Hicks, and others.
They could still end up with a top 10 class and one or two big names. I think OSU signs a lot of instate and Midwest guys early which sometimes takes them out of position for bigger names down the stretch. Tressel is better out of the gate than down the stretch.
Thanks for joining today! Look forward to chatting again soon.
