Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

Sorry for the late start, we had a litle tech. difficulty. But let's roll.

Ryan (NJ)

Hey BW, I think I have found the problem to Denver's offensive funk. I remember when they were in their 6 game win streak, it seemed as if every receiver on the roster was getting the ball. however, now during this 2-6 funk, every pass is thrown to BMarsh. Although he is a great WR, don't you think Denver should take advantage of its depth of receivers, and go back to what helped them in the beginning of the season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

You are right. McDaniels has to get Scheffler, Royal, Stokley and Hillis more involved in this offense.

Mike (Cincinnati)

If the Raiders win out does Cable keep his job? If he doesnt whos his replacement?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

I think he's alreday saved it. I think the only way he doesn't keep his gii is if Oakland totally blows up in the last two games.

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

I think he's alreday saved it. I think the only way he doesn't keep his gii is if Oakland totally blows up in the last two games.

steve (san diego)

How many more victories will San Diego need to secure the second seed?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

San Diego needs one more win or one New England loss to wrap it up. It's a big deal. The No. 2 seed is a huge advantage.

Steve (Fallbrook, Ca)

Hey Bill,Happy Holidays. This late season match up between the Chargers and Titans has had me worried since the schedule was first released. We all remember the alleged hit order by Fisher in the 2007 game. Bad blood still exists between these two teams. Can Turner sit his star players without sending the wrong message to the team? Should he?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

Happy Holidays to you, Steve, and everyone out there ... Thanks for spending a bit of your holiday with me.As for the Chargers, Turner has to play everyone. The Chargers are fighting for the No. 2 seed. I expect a physical game, but I don't expect it to get out of hand. Both teams have too much at stake.

Anthony Powell (Boynton Beach, Florida)

Bill how much trouble are the Broncos with Philadelphia and Kansas City next on the schedule I know Kansas City is a bad team but they always play Denver Hard?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

Even if Denver loses at Philly, which will likley happen ... It has a chance to get in. I think Denver will learn from its lesson of the Oakland lose and take care of business against the Chiefs.

nick (Ma)

bill what will it take for the lions, rams, and raiders to do good next year

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

It starts with a solid draft for all three teams. All three teams are a ways off from being contenders.

Ryan (NJ)

Any predictions for the Eagles game? Also, how do you think Champ will do against Big play DeSean Jackson?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

Jackson may break a big play or two. He always seems to. But Champ will do fine as usual. Overall, I think Denver is going to have a hard time winning this game.

Warin (Englewood, NJ)

Hey Bill, First off, Happy Holidays. I was wondering if you could explain just how is it the Raiders have been so bad in first round picks these last few years (Russell, Heyward-Bey, Huff) but yet find guys like a Louis Murphy (Rd. 4) Matt Shaunessey (Rd. 3) Chaz Schillens (Rd. 7) and Tyvon Branch ( Rd. 4). Is it as simply as Al Davis making bad first round picks and the actual scouting department (if there is one) doing the rest?

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

Thanks, Warin, right back at you ... It's baffling isn't it? The Raiders have gotten great value out of the late rounds. I think Davis is invovled in every pick, but perhaps he doesn't overthink it like he does the early picks.

Dave (San Diego)

How many yards is Chris Johnson going to have tomorrow? As a Charger fan, I'm fearing an Adrian Peterson type performance.

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

Dave, he is going to get his yards. That's a given, but San Diego needs to make sure he doesn't run wld -- like 200-plus wild. I'm with you, I wouldn't be shocked if he goes berserk.

Doug (denver)

Hey Bill, I feel that Denver don't deserve to make it to the playoffs. If they can't be Oakland at home then how do you think they will do in the playoffs against quality opponents? I don't want to see us go and get beat badly by a good team. Wouldn't you rather have a team that is going to be competitive like Miami or Houston go instead?

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

You're right, losing to Oakalnd at home takes the shine off this team. But it's a long season and Denver has done some decent things. Look, Denver competed hard against Indy. I don't think it would embarrass itself in the postseason. I'm not saying the Broncos would win a game, but I don't think it would be a disaster.

Joe (Indio Ca)

Do you think the Chiefs should go for a Safety or a WR in the draft pick and try to get some decent O-line men in the 2nd and 3rd round

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

I think Berry from Tenn neds to be really looked at if the Chiefs get the chance to draft him. But the Chiefs really, I mean, really need O-linemen.

Toby (Pittsburgh)

There is lot's of rumors flying around that bruce arian's and some of the other coaching staff are on their way out. Who would be the perfect fit for an offensive coordinator. I would think that Chip Kelly of Oregon would make an excellent OC and screw up the NFL play schemes.

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

Let's take a a temporary detour from the AFC West for Toby (hey, it's Christmas), I don't think Kelly would leave his sweet job (Oregon is one of the best gigs in the country) for an OC job.

antonio (miami)

anyone think miami hurricanes are going to beat wisconsan

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

Well, Antonio, in my bowl pool, (for entertainment purposes only, of course) I got the Canes. So, I sue hope so ... for entertainment purposes only, of course.

Danny (Cottonwood, AZ)

In your honest opinion, who do you think the wild cards will be in the AFC this year, And can Indy be beaten at home. THX

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

Here's how I see it shaking out, today, at least:1. Indy2. SD3. NE4. Cincy5. Balt6. Den

Dan Locke (Bloomington, IL)

I am a San Diego native and long time Chargers fan. As much as I love LDT and would like to see him finish his career a Charger, its not looking good. Who do you see the Chargers pursuing in the offseason or draft to replace him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

Just a feeling: Toby Gerhart from Stanford.

Jeff Fisher (Nashville)

I'm thinking of putting a hit out on Rivers. What do you think?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Not nice, Jeff, not nice.

Matt (Spokane, WA)

Bill, I think I figured out the Al Davis early round failures/ late round success question-- Davis drafts all the bad players early, and then there are only good players left in the later rounds.

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Soudns logical, bro.

Doug (denver)

So what is your take on the Chargers/Titans game? Will Vince Young make it 8-1 as a starter?

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

Honestly, I think the Titans are very difficult to beat right now and it's going to be an awesome game. It could go down to the wire just like the Cincy game last week.

Steven (Linlithgow, Scotland)

Are you as surprised as I am that the Raiders have managed FIVE wins this season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

I thought they'd get 6-7 wins this season. it could happen.

Steve (San Diego)

The Oakland loss was devastating for the Broncos, but clearly a trap game. Do you see them rebounding this week against the Eagles?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

I dislike that term, "trap game". Come on, Denver win a home game against a 4-win team with the playoffs on the line.

Bryan (Fayetteville)

Think the Chiefs would do well to draft a big gun in Ryan Mallet? The guy can get the ball anywhere on the field and rarely needs a line to give him much time.

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

Cassel is not going anywhere for awhile.

Viral (Desai)

Scott M. (Mooch) suffering a season ending injury is big. Seeing the blocks he made during the Bengals game, it looked like he was just beginning to get into the groove and now this happens!! How will Nick Hardwick (recovering from injured ankle) or Dennis Norman or the new Center Eric G. respond in protecting Rivers and being super productive during the Playoffs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

Yes, it's biug. ahrdwick needs to come in and be back to his old self immediately.

Robb (Colorado)

Bill,When is the last time the Broncos won a game in December? Haven't they lost their last 5 games in the month? The last 3 in 2008 and the first two this year.

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

Yes, good point, Robb.

Shane (Montana)

after san diego's performance against the bengals, are they a safe super bowl pick for this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

I think the Chargers are one of two teams in the AFC (along with the Colts, of couese) that can go to the Super Bowl. It just may happen this season, Chargers' fans.

Machida (Boston, MA)

So what is the gameplan for Denver to beat Philly? Maybe they can take a page out of Oakland's book.

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

Running the ball well would be a good start.

koloco9 (portland, or)

What do you think is the cHargers biggest weakness? Which team posses the biggest challenge to SD?

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

The run D ... I think the team that poses the biggest threat is Indy because it would be on the road and because Peyton Manning will be there.

Joe (Indio CA)

we all know the cheifs need a Offensive coordinator do you think they also need a new Defensive Coordinator?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

Could be, Joe. I wouldn't be surprised. The Chiefs are not getting any better and it's being run over on the ground.

Shane (Montana)

K.C. already has one good upset over the steelers this year, what's the chance they pull of an upset over another AFC north opponent?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

The Bengals could be ripe for an upset ... Larry Johnson has lost a lot while on the field with the Cheifs lately so maybe it will happen again.

Victor (San Jose, CA)

I still see Good Offenses score and move freely against the San Diego Chargers defense. How big do you think is this issue in SD and is Ron Rivera up to the challenge to stop or slow down opposing offenses in the playoffs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

You're right, but San Diego also makes a lot of big plays on defense.

Josh (Brentwood, CA)

If the Chargers get the #2 seed, do you see an AFC Championship game in San Diego?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

Maybe, if New England gets to play Indy.I think the Patriots are the only team other than the Chargers that could knock off the Colts.

brian (eugene)

Following up with toby from pittsburgh's comments on chip kelly, if they chip kelly offense was implemented in the nfl how effective would it be at the nfl level. it would really fool defensive coordinators from the NFL, and isn't that the point of winning football?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Adjustments are always made, Brian, so I'm with you.

JS (Kansas City )

I think the chiefs need help at almost every position, do you see the chiefs bringing in alot of know free agents next year? Or will they bring in a bunch of no name players and there draft picks?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

JS, the Chiefs need to get better and you're right -- they need help everywhere. It's time for Pioli to strt bringing in some established players.

Victor (San Jose, CA)

Are you going to be in Nashville for the Chargers-Titans game? Is it tough for players to play on Christmas day?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

I'm not, Victor. I'm sure it's not ideal for these guys, especially the ones with kids. But duty calls.

Aaron (Boulder, CO)

B Dawk and the Buck heading back to Philly. Pretty emotional game. Anyway this emotion leads to a W? Afterall the Broncos are well know for beating the good teams and losing to the weaker ones.

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

I think just getting Buckhalter back on the field will help. He's a sparkplug and he makes Moreno better.

raider bee (los angeles)

bill... what do u think about the raiders going after vick or campbell next year? or even giving gradkowski another shot at starting or even drafting a qb?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

I think Bruce may get a crack at it.

Deja vu (last few y[t]ears)

Rivers is the last QB to beat the Colts...

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

True story, vu

seejay (chicago)

Do you like how the AFC west is doing?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

Yes, it's made progress. Wth two weeks to go, the division has 27 wins. It had 23 wins last season.

Thomas (Seattle)

San diego lost to a really bad steelers team. Has san diego fixed those issues or should charger fans be concered that it will happen again against like baltimore or cincy in the playoff's

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Thomas, when that game was played, in Week 5 I believe, Pittsburgh was playing at a pretty high level.

brian (los angeles)

do u think the raiders can get back to back wins finally? i mean we r much better then cleveland bill.....by the way bill whos your favorite team?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

it would be nice to see ... No favorite, Brian.

Mark (Fallbrok,CA)

Bill, what are your thoughts on AJ Smith, and the job he has done plugging all the holes injuries has left the Chargers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

AJ is good, man. All that depth is proving it.

Edgar (San Diego.)

Do you see, Chargers doing changes at RB position for next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

I see change, big change. I think LT is ending his San Diego days. Sproles could be on the way out through free agency.

Rich (Sun Valley, ID)

Bill, what is the issue with McDaniels and Peyton Hillis? This guy ran berserk last year, a good power runner. Yet with Moreno averaging a tad over 3 yd/carry--and getting stuffed with regularity--McDaniels doesn't put him in, even on pass plays. WHY?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

I don't get it. They need help in short yardage. Give Hillis a chance. He was a beast last year.

rondo (Jaxville)

there are rumors saying that the jags will be moving to L.A. will that readjust the AFC west or will they just keep them in the same division?

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great quesiton, Rondo. Something would have to give.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great quesiton, Rondo. Something would have to give.

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

Ok, great hour. Thanks, everyone. Merry Christmas. Enjoy Week 16.
