Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:54 PM)

Good afternoon folks. Great to be with you from the Colts' press room.

Coltsfan (Canada)

Do you think we'll start to hear how Rivers can't win the big one after they went one and done in possibly their best opportunity for a Super Bowl so far? I haven't seen anything yet but we all know the talk about Manning when he was in a similar position a year or two before he won a Super Bowl. Do I think it should be said? Not really - while this is a Quarterback driven league and they are the most important player on the field they often get too much credit both when their team wins and when they lose. Thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:56 PM)

I think it's a good topic. I also think Rivers wasn't the No. 1 pick and an all-time great college QB. It's always about the quarterback, and you can't win big without one.

Payton (Bloomington)

Why do all the analysts keep trumping our "poor" rush defense? I know we ranked 24th in the league this year. If you account for the last two games (6 quarters really) when we were playing 2nd and 3rd string players, we would theoretically finished about 13th or 14th, which is where we were most of the season.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:57 PM)

Because of you look at the sheet it says 24th. The league didn't do a revised stat packet that accounts for the Colts giving away a game and a half. And while last year's run defense, worst in the NFL, gave up 4.2 a carry, this year's gave up 4.3.

Jordan (DC)

Do you think Lucas Oil will finally get as loud as the great RCA Dome?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:57 PM)

I am in a hermetically sealed press box, so I may never know...

John (Madison, IN)

Like most fans, I'm tired of the discussion of the Dec. 27th game, but most people talk about how Indy pulled the starters in the third quarter. In fact, 6 starters didn't even dress for the game. Why has this fact been glossed over in the discussion regarding that game.

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:59 PM)

Because they weren't named Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne or Dallas Clark.

chris (ann arbor mi)

I think our tackling ability will have to be superb to limit the jets from having big gains in the run, but I'm not particularly worried about any of there receivers (including Braylon)what do you think??

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:59 PM)

Certainly they are more threatening out of the backfield than at receiver.

Jonathan De Roo (Saskatoon, Sask, Canada)

Who would the Colts match up better against in the Super Bowl ? Min or NO?

Paul Kuharsky
  (2:59 PM)

Tough either way. I suspect NO.

Craig (Norwich, CT)

Has Vince Young really done enough this year to deserve going to the Pro Bowl over Carson Palmer, Joe Flacco, Kyle Orton, and David Garrard?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:00 PM)

No. But Palmer passed, and he was no Pro Bowler either. Would think Orton is next if Manning is in the Super Bowl.

Anthony (Douglas, MA)

Do you think that the Titans got off to a slow start due to the loss of Albert? Did he really make that much of a difference?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:01 PM)

Adjusting to life without him was one of five big issues that killed them at the start.

Andy Richter (Burbank)

Is there any chance that you need a sidekick for your chat?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:01 PM)

Not if he's you.

Rob (Kentucky)

So, at the beginning of the year there was this great debate on who the best running back was. MJD or CJ. I think it has been proven who the best back is, and not only between those two but the entire league. What do yout think Mr. Kuharsky, is there proof enough to say that CJ is the best running back in the NFL?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:01 PM)

Certainly enough to say best in the division, which you'll remember was my stance then. Certainly he was best in the league in 2009.

James (Indy)

PK, nice work on that collaboration with your buddy Timmy G. Did you guys bury the hatchet after all?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:02 PM)

We're pals. It's all schtick.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:03 PM)

But I am faster than him. And better looking.

McStratman (Indy)

It seems that Indy has seen the Jets' "A" game, but the reverse is not necessarily true. How much of a factor do you think that will be for Caldwell and Ryan as they draft their respective game plans?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:03 PM)

Minimal.

Bill Smith (NASHVILLE)

If there is no new deal by the end of the next NFL calendar year, will all activity cease (free agency, draft, etc.)? Some have reported the actual lockout would not go into effect until off-season workouts begin.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

So you think an owner will race to pay a free agent a big bonus three weeks before locking him out?

Mike W (Indianapolis)

PK, it seems to me the Colts' O this year resembles the Patriots' during their back to back Superbowl seasons: pass first, complementary running game, control the tempo, and grind out scoring drives, rather than going for that quick strike home run. Exactly what used to drive us nuts as Colts fans. Do you agree, and if so is that dictated by the personnel they currently have or by a shift in philosophy about the best way to design a offense to compete for a championship?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

They want home runs. Everyone does. It's more about how teams defend them.

Chad (Las Cruces, NM)

Do you think this is a "make or break" year coming up for Jacksonville to get fans in the stands?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

What's break? Be bought by someone dying to move them to LA in time to lock them out? No.

Heather (TN)

There has been so much talk about "Revis Island" and how he is going to shut down Reggie Wayne. Do people not realize that Reggie has been doubled covered the majority of the season and still managed 100 receptions. I just think Reggie handles Revis this weekend. What are your thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

I think Wayne will make some catches, but expect Revis will be solid. Amazing to me how he's been annoited. Great player. Cortland Finnegan was great in 2008. Let's see it for two years, no?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

Why does it feel like Friday? Why do I always skip lunch?

Bill Smith (NASHVILLE)

The question of blitzing to sack Manning is not as big a goal as hitting him several times early so his "happy feet" take over. Brady's hand was empty when he went down in week 1 last seaon, no?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

Point taken. How much happy feet have you seen from him this season, though?

Casey (Bismarck, ND)

Why did VY get the in the PB before players like Flacco, Orton, and even Garrard? It's not like Young's numbers are impressive (even on a per game basis) and he didn't even get to start until week 8. I know the PB is a joke already, but it's even more of a joke when a player can barely play in half the games gets a spot over players who played every game.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

Your complaint is with fans, players and coaches. They all vote and each ballot counts one third.

Michael (formerly Afghanistan) (Dallas, TX)

Who does Del Rio continue to survive?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

Big contract didn't hurt.

Brian (Salem, NH)

If Jacksonville does decide to draft Tebow, can they wait until the second round? Or will he be gone by then?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

If he's gone by then, someone overreached. Jags don't have a second-round pick, however. Traded it for the third they used on Derek Cox.

Conan (NY)

I'm taking over the AFC South blog.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

Then I will reclaim it later. Cool.

Tom Slaten (Milton,WI)

Why does it seem that the press is giving the Jets an actual chance at beating Indy on Sunday, This team does not deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

Because some of that press is from New York?

Colton (Las Vegas)

In week 16 matchup between the Colts and Jets, early in the game, the Colts seemed to have found that they could run the ball very well. Addai had only 6 carries, but totaled 40 yards on those 6 carries. They seemed to have found something they could exploit with our running game. Do you think that could be a factor in this game or do you see the Colts will have another sad running effort of 50-60 yards?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

Colts were two tight ends a lot. They will be more three wide this time.

Brian (IN)

What do you think about the possibility Powers can't play? Lucky for the Colts, the lack of 3 wides by the Jets should limit the 'Tim Jennings effect', but Powers has been one of the most underrated rookie corners this year.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:10 PM)

True. But so has his replacement, Jacob Lacey.

Kris (Nashville)

Hey Paul, Looking forward to the draft in April for the Tennessee Titans...Who do you think the Titans are scouting position wise for the first and second round...I think the defense is getting old especially at the linebacker position.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:11 PM)

Everyone. Seriously. No one narrows who they are scouting in January.

James (Franklin, IN)

The Colts are as tight-lipped an organization as there is about injuries. Any concern that Powers misses the game on Sunday?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:11 PM)

Sure. Caldwell earlier: 'We're not certain of what he'll be able to do for us this week. We'll see as we go along.' Powers didn't appear in the locker room.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

"The Jaguars aren't going to draft Tim Tebow in the first round." I believe it too.

McStratman (Indy)

Pollian's teams are 1-4 in the Super Bowl. Thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

Bills should have beaten the Giants but I was glad they didn't.

Finley (Back yard)

It feels like Friday because you forgot to let me inside last night. Come on, man!!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

I'm in Indy, buddy!

Roger Goodell (New York City)

I think I'm going to move the Pro Bowl back to how it was before and leave it alone. Your thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

Replace it with a week in Hawaii, a live skills competition and a huge banquet at which MVP and all the awards are handed out.

Jeff (NC)

I'm a little jealous. I wish I could be in the Colts' press room right now.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

Ever seen it?

Mad Mike ( Houston) (Texas)

Paul: Is the NFL serious? VY Pro Bowler! He did well when he came back, but a lot of that hasd to do with CJ being the defenses target. It made life easier for VY. Your Thoughts? Thanks......MM

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

Yeah, it's pretty much a joke. The whole thing, not just VY's part. Colts win, another average QB is getting in too, and that will make eight. Half the starters in the conference!

Razel (Texas)

Hey Paul, I finally got a day off to chat with Paul da Man!!! So anyway what do you think they titans do with Keith bulluck? I mean he is old but I still have to say he still has great covering skills and still had some picks. Ya think they put a Franchise tag on kb all da way? Thx Paul

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

I don't think he's getting a tag while rehabbing from a torn ACL.

Trevor (Denver)

Can you give a score prediction? I think the Colts D will not allow a TD (just like against B-more) I say 21-6.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

I cannot. I don't predict.

Greg (NYC)

Paul, let's talk draft for a minute...People are slamming Jevon Sneed for coming out after his junior year. Jevon Sneed has played almost 3 full years of SEC football, He was the only qb to beat the 08' Gators National Championship team, and is some how "making the biggest mistake of his life!"?...didnt some kid from Southern Cal with only 15 college games come out after his only year at starting QB with the most talented college teams in the country, his own coach said he wasn't ready for the NFL and yet he was touted as the second coming of jesus christ in new york when he was taken 6th overall by the New York Jets?...So if Sanchez wasn't "making a mistake", How is Sneed making one now?.............(FYI Jake Locker and Ryan Mallet will be in next years draft and they are TOP of TOP NFL prospects!)

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

I don't know that one has a lot to do with the other. Snead doesn't look NFL ready to me.

Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)

Paul, I need to step in here and flag Casey for mentioning Pro Bowl and Kyle Orton in the same sentence. That's 15 yards and we'll repeat 1st down.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

Get ready for it. Who's ahead of him as next in line for if Manning isn't playing?

Clay (Charlotte)

Is it really a big deal for someone to get to the Pro Bowl and play in a game that everyone plays at 60% and no one watches?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

Yeah, they get to call themselves a Pro Bowler. And since once upon a time it meant something, it seems like it means something.

Peyton Manning (Home relaxing)

Paul, why are you sitting in my press room right now? I invited you over for a detailed film break-down session, some line dancing, and a hearty dinner of gut bombers.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

I'm pretty sure you practice until 4, actually. Come get me then.

Michael Roos (Latvia)

How am i not better then Joe Thomas who played on a crappy team or Ryan Clady who played on a team that had an epic collapse?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

They are both very good. So are you.

Dan (Philadelphia)

I heard a ridiculous rumor Jones-Drew could be traded. There is no way this happens, right?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

Wouldn't make a lot of sense.

Jason (Chicago)

Last year you wrote a big expose about the 5 things VY needed to improve on to become a starting QB in this league can you do another on how & or what he improved to become not only a starter but a pro bowler!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

Pet peeve: People who say, "Why don't you write X" when I have in fact written X. Please see: http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/6494/why-its-working-for-young-v-2-0

Bob (Toronto)

39 POINTS TOTAL IN THE Indy game seems low what do you think.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:23 PM)

Think I'm not a bettor and don't want to be on the hook for advice to someone who is.

Clay (Charlotte)

Vinitari playing this weekend?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:23 PM)

No.

Jason (Denver)

The injury that has me the most worried is Betha. PK, any insights on how banged up he is?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:23 PM)

I think he'll be fine.

Pierre Garcon (Indy)

My hustle play to force Ed Reed to fumble is an instance classic! You need a poster of that in the background of your next a??Primary Complaint.a? Ia??ll even sign it for you! What do you say, PK?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

I'd welcome it!

Brett (Sarasota)

Dallas Clark feeling better?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

He did a podium session today, but I missed it. Injury report coming shortly.

Awayne (INDY)

If the 3 South teams that didn't make the playoffs fail to do so again next year do any of the coaches keep their jobs?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

Fisher could/ probably would.

Greg (NYC)

to answer you peyton replacement question ahead of Kyle orton...Who is Carson Palmer for 300$!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:26 PM)

Was invited ahead of VY and passed because he's banged up.

Simon Kuharsky (via mobile)

Dude, Finley is chewing on the couch. My question is, when the Colts win and you get to Miami, will you also be going to Florida in order to scout out a new home for us?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

Why do you want to move, junior? Tell Finley to stop.

Mike W (Indianapolis)

Was KO TD by Jets in wk 16 an abberation that shouldn't occur again with Colts at full strength, or an area of concern for Colts Sunday?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:28 PM)

Always an area of concern, I suppose. Be hard to do twice in two games, however.

Danny (Madison, WI)

Who would you rather have as your QB, taking all things into consideration, Aaron Rodgers, Phillip Rivers, Eli Manning, or Big Ben?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:29 PM)

"All things" include the teams the have around them or not? I'd lean Rodgers with Rivers close.

Dustin (Stanford CA)

Hey Paul, care to predict what compensatory draft picks each team in the division might receive?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

No. It's a complicated science that's way over my head. And as I prepare for the AFC Championship game, I have a tough time getting excited about extra seventh rounders in three months.

John B (Austin)

So when was the last time two rookie coaches made it all the way to the AFC Championship or one to the Super Bowl?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

Never been two in a championship game. George Seifert won a Super Bowl as a rookie, no?

Chad (N.O. via Vegas)

Predict the draft order from 29-32.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

Nice try.

Mike (NYC via W. Lafayette)

Got a sneaky suspicion that Rex will try to take a deep shot on the 1st or 2nd snap when the Jets first get the ball. Can you remind the Colts to look out for that? What do you think PK?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

I think they know to look out for it. Not just on the snaps you mention, but every snap.

McStratman (Indy)

How likley are Mudd and Moore to return as assistants next year and how much would their absence affect the Colts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:32 PM)

Mudd is 100 percent. They should restock some for Pete Metzelaars who will take over.

Mad Mike ( Houston) (Texas)

Paul: Do you know where to find a list of upcoming oponents for next season? I know the AFC South will play the NFC East and the AFC West I think, but don't know the other oponents? thanks.......MM

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:34 PM)

I did an entry on it. Look for the Monday or Tuesday after regular season ended.

Luke (South Bend, IN)

You said earlier that the Colts will go more 3 wide this time than last. Why would their plan be any different? They had decent success running the ball, and it would put an extra protector for Peyton to get that extra second to find whoever Revis isn't on that play.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:35 PM)

Because they are a three-wide team that scaled it back that day. Also because Rex Ryan said that's what he expects.

Vince Young (Nashville)

So is my next contract 8 Years and 102Million? 40Million guarenteed? say this time next year

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:35 PM)

Who's giving you that?

Brian (Salem, NH)

Do you think the Ravens need to go after an elite WR this offseason? They already have a solid D and running game, but a stud WR can possibly put them over the top. Flacco is still young, and can use another weapon other than the ageless Mason.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:36 PM)

More than one if possible.

Greg (NYC)

Another Small wrinkle for the Colts Jets game this week...The Colts basically flipped a coin to decide if they should draft Donald Brown or Shonne Greene...Ain't Karma a "Female Dog"

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:36 PM)

Yeah, I'm not buying that. Bill Polian isn't a coin flipper.

Chad (N.O. via Vegas)

Is Rex Ryan good, lucky, or 50/50?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:36 PM)

Good. And at the end of the season he was also lucky.

Mike (Indy)

You mean Mudd is 100% to retire I'm sure Paul. He asked the likelihood of them coming back.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:37 PM)

Sorry. Yes Mudd is not coming back.

Kevin (Louisiana)

Should the coach of the year be voted on after the playoffs? Seeing that Caldwell and Ryan didn't win it is disturbing...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:37 PM)

Why? It's a regular season award.

robert (hazard,ky)

do you think if farve can at least get to the super bowl will it shut up some of the critics that have blasted him in the last few years?i think that he has earned the right he is one of the toop 5 of all time!cut him some slack, bet the viking r glad they did

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:38 PM)

Why would Favre getting to the Pro Bowl give him any absolution for being a complete flake with the retirement stuff?

Jack (Jacksonville, FL)

Paul, I'm starting to second-guess playing financial chicken with Wayne and now some young punk is coaching my Trojans. What should I do?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:38 PM)

Get back to work?

Sean (Canton, OH)

What specific aspects of his game do you think are most important for Vince Young to work on this offseason?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:39 PM)

Short pass accuracy.

Razel (Texas)

Shipley rumored to be in Tennessee, any reason the titans would take him?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

Prospect are free to travel and visit any state they like, as far as I know. Doesn't the constitution allow them that?

The People (Indianapolis)

Just a reminder, some of us are still very angry about the first Jets game. And to be perfectly honest, the Colts are terribly important to us right now.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:41 PM)

I think you should continue to be heard. I've done my part by taking this question.

Hunter Hearth (Ny, Ny)

Who do you think is the biggest potential free agent this offseason within the division?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:42 PM)

Owen Daniels. But he's going to be restricted. There is not going to be a cap.

Jeff (Coltsville)

Would Colts use their punter for a long field goal try or Stover?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:42 PM)

I don't think they'd use McAfee.

Chad (N.O. via Vegas)

Bigger story. Manning vs Favre or Manning vs hometown/daddies team?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:43 PM)

Favre.

Brett Favre (Minnesota)

Pants on the ground, pants on the ground, hat turned sideways.....Am I the best QB playing for a spot in the Super Bowl this Sunday?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:43 PM)

You didn't just win MVP, did you?

Todd (LaVergne,TN)

Jim Wyatt gave me his projected # 1,2 and 3 WR for the the Titans 2010 season now its your turn. Thats if Britt doesnt do anything stupid in the off season.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:43 PM)

Britt, Washington, Gage.

Simon Kuharsky (via mobile)

The reason I want to move is that I'm a lifelong fan of the Florida Marlins. Was hoping you'd buy season tickets.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

They have really done a lot of memorable stuff in the last three months, haven't they. What about all your Yankees outfits?

Awayne (INDY)

Will the Jets try to stay in their base defense or will they go to a nickel package early and often?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

The Colts will dictate that, I suspect. And we'll see a lot of nickel, I suspect.

Greg (NYC)

INDY loved SHONNE GREEN..ask Matt Williamson, mel kiper or todd mcshay...They didn't know what to do...it was basically a 'PTI TOSS UP'...They had questions about Donny Brown's toughness coming from the big east and questions about shonne green speed. They were basically 50/50 on both guys..Go ask Bill Pollian..i'll look for your acknowledgement next week!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:45 PM)

I have a hard time believing Bill Polian is going to say anything now that doesn't show 100 percent support for and confidence in the Brown pick.

Michael (formerly Afghanistan) (Dallas, TX)

How does Chad (N.O. via Vegas) and Mad Mike (Houston) get multiple questions and I don't get on in the chat?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

I didn't understand your question, and it's about the questions, not the askers of the questions.

Sam (Indy)

The Colts typically don't re-sign Linebackers in their system. With Gary Brackett's contract expiring, do you think they let him go and look to the draft for a replacement?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

Depends on the market for him.

Michael (formerly Afghanistan) (Dallas, TX)

With an UNCAPPED YEAR, who do you think will be the NY YANKEES of the NFL? of the AFC SOUTH?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:48 PM)

There are a ton of restrictions. An uncapped year doesn't create the Wild West scenario so many fans want or expect to see. We keep writing it and writing it, but apparently no one wants to hear it. Fewer free agents, top teams not allowed to sign free agents unless they lose them, an extra tag for each team...

Todd (LaVergne,TN)

You seem so certain there isnt going to be a cap? Why should we believe you?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:49 PM)

Well, there has to be a CBA for a cap. And both the owners and players have said this week, they are preparing for a lockout in 2011. Before a lockout then, comes no CBA and no cap in 2010.

Richard (Nap Town)

PK - Do you think Clint Session's latest quote will be "bulletin board material" for the Jets?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:50 PM)

They're really grasping if they need that.

Reggie Wyane (nj)

do you see hank baskett as a reciver in any special formation/packages

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

Absolutely. All of a sudden, they are going to spring him on the world.

Nate (Indy)

The Colts opened up the Baltimore game in a wonky 4-4 defense. They didn't stick with it very long, did they?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

Didn't the Ravens open with only one receiver?

Mike (Indy)

Greg, that's terrific and all but if you're trying to say the Colts made a mistake by picking Brown based on how well Greene has played behind the Jets terrific offensive line, you're barking up the wrong tree. The Colts run offense is abysmal but that doesn't fall solely on the backs. I'm sure Brown would be fine with the Jets O-line.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:54 PM)

Good stuff Mike.

Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)

Michael, one the most important rules in the Chat Rulebook is, "No whining about not getting posted." Learn it, live it, love it. No flag this time, but I'm watching you.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:54 PM)

And you too, Edward.

jason (nebraska)

are you afraid to answer some questions thats why you get to choose what you answer

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:55 PM)

I'm afraid of some questions. You're right about that part.

Rick (Marion, IN)

Hello Mr. Kuharsky. Will the Colts reactivate Vinatieri for the Super Bowl (if necessary)?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:55 PM)

If Stover is healthy, what qualifies as necessary?

Nate (Indy)

I really don't understand the labor situation. Why would we have a single uncapped year before a potential lockout? What dictates whether there will be a lockout? Indianapolis is very worried about this possibility, since we're hosting the Superbowl in 2012, if it happens...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

If the deal is expiring, the final year of it is uncapped. No new deal, no cap. And then all indications are a lockout in 2011.

Colton (Las Vegas)

I can't see the Colts letting their Defensive Captain go, especially since Brackett has already been resigned once by the team. A bigger LB question for me is do you feel that the colts need to upgrade the SLB position? Or are they ok with Wheeler, who basically lost his job to Hagler this before the year started

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

If Brackett and Session are in place, I think they can always find someone for the third spot.

Greg (NYC)

Houston is 1 free agent veteran and 1 rookie away from being a a contender...who do you think they are?i.e Julius Peppers opposite Williams and draft Haden CB from Florida?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:58 PM)

If they follow your plan and get no running back, they are in big trouble. They aren't paying Peppers. One free agent and three draft picks at RB, CB, FS, DT.

Michael (formerly Afghanistan) (Dallas, TX)

Is the CRAZY COACHING hirings/extensions (Washington, Seatle, Buffalo, Dallas) or non-firings (Jacksonville, Browns, Oakland) have to more to do with the ECONOMICS of a 2011 Lock-Out Season or trying to have the Best Team by the Owners, who would have to pay a coach in 2011?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:00 PM)

Different answers for different teams. Contract certainly helped save Del Rio and money certainly prohibited Buffalo from getting a big star.

jason (nebraska)

did you know steelers had the best defense last year now its the jets this yeawill they wn the superbowl

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:01 PM)

How come that defense lost seven games and needed two teams that didn't want to win to get to nine wins?

Mike (NYC via W. Lafayette)

Are you going to be giving out your picks for the games during the chat or will we have to wait until later in the week?

Paul Kuharsky

I don't pick games. But nobody ever listens when I tell them that. Maybe they all think I am trying to be funny.

Adam (Louisville, KY)

You say you don't have a rooting interest in the games... yet wouldn't you want the Colts in the SB for a trip to Miami on ESPN?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:03 PM)

I'd like to cover it sure. I'd like to see my wife and kid too. Have you ever been on a very busy work trip? It's not like I'd be hanging on the beach.

StvDoe (NYC)

It seems obvious to me you expect the Colts to win. Does your ban on expressing your opinion extend merely betting concerns (i.e. spreads) or will you decline to pick a winner in the game?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:04 PM)

I decline to pick winners in all games, though clearly I'd be surprised if the Jets win. Not being in position to root for a result that would make me correct is very liberating and benefits my work.

Matt (IN)

PK, your next Primary Complaint video should be about how currently Rex and Buddy Ryan are on the front of ESPN.com. It is hard on the eyes.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:06 PM)

Yes. I will use ESPN equipment to post a blog entry on ESPN bashing ESPN. Ingenious.

Larry (Washington, DC)

People who cant hear are deaf. People who cant see are blind. What do we call people who can clearly see enough to read the chat, but seem to go temporarily blind when the answer repeatedly says you dont pick games?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:07 PM)

Get me an answer and I will send you a prize.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:08 PM)

OK folks, that was good stuff. We had a good pace, no? Appreciate you stopping by. Just got by 6,000th follower on Twitter. Will you be next?

Paul Kuharsky

Enjoy the games!

Be good to each other!
