With the Shockers losing games to both Creighton and Drake on the road mean that the only way for the MVC to get 2 teams in the tournament is that someone other than Northern Iowa win the conference tournament?
Most likely that is the case.
Andy, Can you comment on the DePaul coaching search? Please don't tell me Isiah Thomas. I'd rather have Billy Gillespie. What about Stevens from Butler?
If I were advising Stevens I would tell him stay put. There is no reason to venture to one of the worst jobs in the Big East. The venue, the lack of financial support, facilities, fan support, no way. I think this will be a classic case of shooting high and ending up a lot lower.
with gonzaga a lock to the dance will the committee punish themby moving them out of spokane?
Why would the committee punish Gonzaga? If the Zags are a high enough seed they will be in Spokane.
what is the highest seed BYU could potentially get if they keep up their current level of play?
If BYU were to win out, which isn't going to happen, then I could see a No. 2 seed. But I wouldn't be surprised to see the Cougars in the 3 or 4 range come March.
My question has to do with my Ohio State Buckeyes, realistically how far do you think this team can go into the tournament? At parts of this year i have been extremely happy with them, and sometimes i cant figure them out (no fg last 8 min against WV). Could this really be a sweet sixteen team?Take care
Yes. It can be a Sweet 16 team. Evan Turner is that good where he can lead this squad to a few wins. But William Buford's shooting is improving, too. If the bigs, notably Dallas Lauderdale, can stay on the floor and be productive then this will be a tough out in March.
what does that win at clemson do for duke in terms of tournament seeding
What game are you most looking forward to this weekend?
Harvard at Cornell FridayKansas at Kansas State SaturdayDuke at Georgetown SaturdayAnd quite possibly Old Dominion at Northeastern
Do you think Maine can win the American East and make it to the tourney??
Yes. The Blackbears have been the surprise of the America East so far and Ted Woodward should get the nod for coach of the year in the league.
Does Duke beat FSU and Gtown this week?
I would say a split is more likely. I don't see Duke losing at home this season. Georgetown has the bigs to rotate in against Duke. And I anticipate the Verizon Center will be rocking for this one again.
Andy, at the beginning of the season you picked WVU to win the Big East by 2 games. I would bet my coonskin cap you were assuming that Devin Ebanks would put up a lot better numbers than he has. Truck Bryant has being playing great for Huggs, can the Mountaineers still win the Big East you think?
Yes. That is all correct. Huggs is high on the eligibility of Denis Kilicli too, who will start playing next week against Pitt. But I don't see West Virginia winning the Big East anymore. I'm picking Syracuse right now over Villanova. "Nova's scheduls is too tough down the stretch.
Andy if KSU takes Kansas down on Saturday, what does it do for Kansas State's resume saying they beat the top two teams in the Big 12?
It means KState will get a decent seed in the NCAA tournmaent. But after the Oklahoma State loss I don't think KState can win the Big 12.
After a huge win against Tenn do you think the Dawgs can build off this, go on a winning streak and maybe sneak into the tourney?
The Illinois win has lost a bit but the Georgia Tech win will hold some weight in March. If the Bulldogs were to go on a streak and get let's just say nine or 10 wins in the SEC then they would definitely be on the board to be discussed.
Is Eric Bledsoe a legitimate one and done player?
Can he go after this season? Yes. There is a need for more point guards. Should he go? No. He could use another season and would be the star attraction next season assuming John Wall, Patrick Patterson and DeMarcus Cousins bolt, too. Of course Kentucky won't be as talented. But Bledsoe still needs to work on his decision-making and distributing. He can shoot and has the natural speed and lateral quickness down. If Kentucky wins the title, though, I fully expect a mad dash to the draft.
Andy, if siena cant win the MAAC tourney and win out in the regular season, does siena deserve an auto bid?
It depends when in the tourney they lose and to whom and what happens on Bracket Buster Saturday.
Hey Andy! As hot as George Mason is right now is there a possibility of an at-large if they keep it up? They still have games against VCU, ODU, William and Mary, Northeastern, and a Bracketbuster. Did they have too many losses early on or is there a chance of an at-large if they continue the winning streak?
Talk to me after that slew of games. Not yet.
I know the Pac-10 is down this year, but do any of you actually watch the games out west. Yes Arizona is young but they have played a tough schedule and are getting better, have a frosh who is one of the better players in the country (Derrick Williams) but yet all anyone can keep saying is that Cal, UCLA (who AZ beat at Pauley) & Washington (before last weeks games) are still the favorites. After what I saw AZ do to ASU last weekend I think they deserve a little credit and with 7 of their last 11 games at home I think they could finish in 1st or 2nd (if they keep improving). If they can win their 7 games at home
Yes I do watch and that's why I'm sleep deprived at times. And you're right the games are very competitive and there is talent that is developing. But the committee will still look at the body of work and for most if not all Pac-10 teams it's not impressive enough for a bid.
Andy, Do you think BYU will get contested vs the Lobos, or do you think that BYU will come in and dominate the lobos? I think it should be a very good game on wednesday.
No way will the Cougars dominate. BYU knows it has to defend the perimeter and rebound well to beat the Lobos in the Pit. This should be one of the better games this week.
Should Steve Alford be mentioned as a COY candidate?
I had him down originally as a one-time favorite. He is on the list, but he's not going to win the award. Kentucky's John Calipari and Syracuse's Jim Boeheim (who has now moved ahead of Pitt's Jamie Dixon in the Big East for me) are the leaders on my fictious ballot.
How important is the forthcoming game between Memphis and Gonzaga, for both teams? Who do you think will prevail?
It's now a huge game for Memphis. The Tigers need a non-conference signature win and this is the last attempt.
How many games have you seen the Cougars play this year? I think they have a legitimate chance of blowing out the Lobos. They are talented and deep and UNLV gave the Lobos a beating in the pit.
I've probably watched three to five so far and saw them practice in the fall. I just would be surprised if on the road at the Pit if they were able to win by double figures.
Was the last 36 min of the last night's Syracuse-G'twn game the most impressive 36 min of basketball you have seen this year?
It's in the top five. It was quite impressive the way the Orange turned that game.
What kind of scenerio would it take to keep Syracuse in the east bracket
None. Syracuse can't play in the East because the Orange and more specifically the Carrier Dome is the host for the East Regional.
Andy what are your thoughts on who takes over the number 1 spot if/when Kentucky loses? Seeing Cuse is ranked number 1 in the RPI and top ten sos and has been very impressive do they get the nod over Kansas and Villanova?
Syracuse would definitely get the nod over Villanova but the debate with Kansas would be interesting to do.
Andy, Thanks for your time this morning. Ultimately, how many teams does the Big 12 bring to the dance?
I'm going to go with:1. Kansas2. Texas3. Kansas State4. Texas A&M5. Baylor6. Missouri7. Oklahoma State
Everyone is saying now that uk's schedule is weak, they have no key wins an they dont deserve the #1 spot....what do u think about all this...
I say it's a non story. Kentucky deserves to be No. 1 this week and if the 'Cats keep winning they will be a No. 1 seed.
Why are the Seminoles not getting any love from the Poll voters? FSU is 3-2 in the ACC, 15-4 overall, and they beat a ranked GT team twice (who is still ranked). They have lost at Ohio State, at UF, and at Maryland. What is your prediction for the Seminoles this year?
NCAA tournament team. The 'Noles haven't had much national TV play and that may be part of the reason why they have been receiving less buzz.
CUSA Game of the Year tonight - Who wins, Tulsa or UAB? Will either team make the NCAAs as an at large?
UAB has the better non-conference profile. Tulsa can change its resume with a late February win at Duke. I'll lean toward UAB in this game but it should be close.
Thanks for all the questions today. Let's chat next week.
