Chat with J.A. Adande

J.A. Adande
  (3:03 PM)

Hi everybody. Kinda funny to go to the chat sign-in page and see Ice Cube listed. Don't see that every Friday. West-siiiide!

Jim (Boston)

Where do you see the Hawks ending up in the conference? And do you give them any hope of beating Cleveland in the playoffs?

J.A. Adande
  (3:03 PM)

I think they wind up with the 2 spot and lose a tight Eastern Conference finals to LeBron

ben (los angeles)

do you think the clippers have a legit shot at getting lebron next year?

J.A. Adande
  (3:05 PM)

i'd give them an outside chance. They'd be starting far from the rail...and you rarely see those horses win the Kentucky Derby. i just get the sense LeBron hasn't spent much time thinking about being a Clipper, whereas he has worked the pros and cons of other places in his mind.

mac (portland)

Could KP actually makes a trade before the deadline? And what trade is more likely; Blake Outlaw, and Pryz to the wizards for Jamison and Haywood or Blake, Outlaw and Webster for Iggy?

J.A. Adande
  (3:06 PM)

Or how about Blake and Webster for Marcus Camby? but that, along with the ones you proposed, doesn't seem likely to happen. The Blazers realize they're not going to win the championship this year, and the players are proud of what they've done so far and want a shot to see how well they can do on their own.

Harry (NZ)

HeyJA, what do you think about ray Allen? Do you think he should be traded? Everyones giving him a bad rep at the moment but hes currently the highest celtic in plus minus. Dosent that say something?

J.A. Adande
  (3:09 PM)

It does say something. So did his great defense on Kobe Bryant last week, even right before the game-winning shot. But Allen is the guy that makes the most sense to move. It's not a knock on him. Kind of like when the Pistons sent Chauncey Billups to Denver. Nothing bad about Chauncey, but that group had its run, and he was the guy who could help them get where they wanted to go through a trade. (Didn't quite work out though, didn't it?)

Alex (Houston)

Would the Rockets be interested in getting into this Amare Sweepstakes now that he is planning to not opt out and if so who would the Suns ask for?

J.A. Adande
  (3:12 PM)

There's a possibility they could do it for T-Mac's expiring contract. Heard that mentioned today.

Patrick (Cleveland)

What up JA? You see D Wade get posterized last night? Are the Cavs good enough to win the title without making a trade? We got Leon Powe coming back after the all star break....

J.A. Adande
  (3:14 PM)

I give credit to D Wade for at least challenging. Some guys would just let the play happen so they dont end up on the wrong side of a SportsCenter top 10. But he goes after that ball. The Cavs are the best team in the league right now as is. But you don't win championships in this league by being complacent, so if they could get Antawn Jamison I'd do it.

Clay D (NY)

Do you think that Kobe should take some time off and get healthy? If he's not 100% in the playoffs, what team in the playoffs would be most likely to defeat the Lakers?

J.A. Adande
  (3:15 PM)

He should take some time off. He needs to heal and the Lakers are good enough to win a playoff series without homecourt advantage. With or without Kobe, I think the only teams that could beat the Lakers in the playoffs are Cleveland and Denver

Ryan (NJ)

Everyone who is clearing cap space for this summer is trying to land one of the big stars. Amare is available in a trade, so wouldn't a team that trades for him now be getting ahead of the game. I know they would have to give up some value in a trade as opposed to a free agent signing, but if it could guarantee that you don't strike out on all the big time free agents, why not? Regarding the Nets, would a trade of Yi, a lower 1st round draft pick (maybe the Mavs pick that NJ has), and cap relief (Bobby Simmons) be enough to get Amare? That would be one piece of the puzzle already taken care of, and this summer they can focus on the draft and potentially adding another free agent. Thanks JA!

J.A. Adande
  (3:16 PM)

But what if Amare opted out and left you? Could happen.

J.A. Adande
  (3:17 PM)

Sorry for the delays. My responses are taking a long time to post. Wireless issues.

Tim (Boston)

JA, you've commented on a couple of my trade ideas before. Here's one for you. Considering the ongoing talk about the three main players here, what about Martin and Garcia to Boston, Ray Allen and Kenny Thomas to Phili, and Iguodala and Delambert to Sacramento? Or do you feel a direct match between Phili and Boston here makes more sense?

J.A. Adande
  (3:20 PM)

Without checking the numbers to see if it would work I like the idea...but dont think Philly would sign off on it because they want more than just an expiring contract. That's why they haven't been able to move Iguodala. Then again, as one GM framed it for me, the 76ers are willing to move Iguodala, but not TRYING to move Iguodala. Bit of a difference.

Brian (Providence)

JA, who in your opinion is more important to their team; LeBron or Wade? CLE has the better record, but LeBron also has a slightly better supporting cast. Where would either team be without their franchise player?

J.A. Adande
  (3:23 PM)

Last year I believed Wade meant more to his team than LeBron or Kobe did to theirs. This year it's LeBron. The addition of Shaq has made them more physical, but LeBron's the guy who many nights refuses to let the Cavaliers lose.

Leyton (ATL)

I noticed that this is the second straight game that Orlando faces Cleveland on the second night of a back to back while the Cavs rest. Why not even the playing field and give them the first night. NBA scheduling is a joke.

J.A. Adande
  (3:27 PM)

Hmm, getting a lot of questions about the Cavs' schedule. (No one mentioned the trip when they got to five days in California...heaven for the traveling party while it was freezing back in Cleveland.) No one seems to remember the time the Cavs had to make 2 preseason trips to the West coast then opened the regular season in Sacramento in LeBron's rookie year. (Brian Windhorst is probably still jet-lagged from those excursions). So the schedule balances out over the long haul. Some years are better than others. You don't think having a back-to-back in Toronto was what Cleveland wanted after the heavily hyped opener against Boston this year?

John (Los Angeles)

If you were the Clippers who would you hire in the offseason as their new coach?

J.A. Adande
  (3:30 PM)

You know I'm always going to put in a word for my ESPN colleagues Avery Johnson and Byron Scott. But I do think either of them could help the Clippers. Bring some discipline and accountability

Lamar (Detroit)

Now that everyone is healthy, do you think the Pistons can turn their season around and at least make the playoffs in the weak eastern conference.

J.A. Adande
  (3:34 PM)

No. And the schedule wont' help. They've played only 22 road games (tied for fewest in the East) so there's a lot of traveling ahead. And who on the team or the bench are they going to rally behind?

Adam (Cleveland)

Just wanted to defend the Cavs schedule a little bit..How come no mention of your league leading differential between away games and home games. We had played 7 more on the road than at home until this homestead started. P.S. we still had the best record in the league...

Q-Bert (A Giant Cube Pyramid)

The Dallas Mavericks: A. Should trade Josh Howard, Dampier, Beoubais, a pick, and cash to Philly for Iguodala and Dalembert;B. Need another shooter at the 2, probably Kevin Martin;C. Are a logical destination for Caron Butler; D. Have no hope of competing with the West's elite, even if they cash in their trade assets.

J.A. Adande
  (3:35 PM)

I like option A. You wonder if their recent struggles will prompt them to move. I think so.

cody (cleveland)

what do you think the cavs have to get up for someone like jamison , i know Z is part but who if anyone else?

J.A. Adande
  (3:36 PM)

Washington wants Hickson.

Ryan (Denver)

Why is this Jazz team so inconsistent over the years? The same basic team went to the WCF a few years ago. Then they stunk it up for a while and looked unmotivated and didn't play good team ball such as the beginning of this year. What's the deal? I think Boozer gives them chemistry issues.

J.A. Adande
  (3:39 PM)

I wouldn't put this on Boozer. He's been balling this year. What's up with Okhur? his dropoff has been a major issue. But if you look over the past few years, it's always one guy going up or down. AK one year, Boozer another, now Okhur. Really more a failure of individual players to maintain consistency than a team-wide problem.

Jack (SLC)

Will the Jazz let Booz crooz walk at the end of the season or sign and trade him? I don't see any chance of them keeping him after his track record there and how well they seem to play without him.

Jose Calderon (Toronto)

Am I going to Washington for Caron Butler?

Joey (Syracuse)

Hypothetical for you JA. Let's say without Paul, the Hornets have a New Jersey Netsian second half and end up winning the John Wall sweepstakes, what do they do?

J.A. Adande
  (3:43 PM)

I'd still take Wall. Gotta go with the best player. Work it out after that.

J.A. Adande
  (3:44 PM)

Have to run. Plus internet connection making it difficult to post more than 3 questions in the next hour. Chat will change next week because I will be in Dallas for All-Star media availability, so keep an eye out for different time and/or day. Thanks!
