Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get started:

Brandon (Utah)

Do you think KC has a good shot at landing Peppers? Or maybe even Wilfork?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

I think thy can get either, but I think Wilfork may be a better bet because of the Pioli connection.

Richard (Raider Nation)

William better hire: Hue Jackson or Charlie Weis

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

Weis -- he has more skins on the wall.

Richard (Raider Nation)

Bill Please please No Nnamdi to the Jets Questions its a rumor i wish would die

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Don't worry about it. It won't happen, but if Nnamdi didn't bring it up himself, it wouldn't be an issue.

Eli (Atlanta)

What happened to the chargers?! I thought for sure they would get to the super bowl this year! Can we expect improvement next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

I think the window is still open for this team. It will be a solid team in 2010.

Brandon (Utah)

Do you think KC might go after Boldin since they have 2 second round picks?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

I think it's a real possibility.

Dennis (Sacramento)

Will the Chargers go after any big name free agents?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

They usually don't.

Erik (NH)

Bill, In your latest Mock Draft, you have the Raiders taking Rolando McClain. That pick makes perfect sense... which is why it won't happen. Unless McClain runs a very fast 40. Anywho, do you think Davis will trade Bush, Huff and/or Asomugha this offseason?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

I think Bush could be trade bait. I think Oakland should make him the primary back and let it rip. He has good ability.

Will (San Diego)

Bill, the latest rumor is that the Chargers are looking to trade Antonio Cromartie and a third round pick to Green Bay for AJ Hawk and a second round pick. What do you think of this trade and would AJ Hawk be a good fit in SD?

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

At this point, I think it is just an internet rumor ... If SD could pull it off, I think it would ... but it just a rumor at this point.

Robert (Palmdale, CA)

hey bill love the blog. with richard seymours contract ending this year do the raiders franchise tag him? he has said that he would like to return to the raiders and keep playing how long would the raiders re-sign him for?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

Thanbks, Robert ... If a long-term deal with Seymour isn't made, expect him to be tagged. The Raiders will not let him go.

Million (San Diego)

Do you think San Diego will take Julius Peppers in the off season with merriman lacking with the sacks?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

If Merriman leaves, Peppers would be a great replacement. But it would be out of character for the Chargers to sign a big-name free agent.

TMC (San Diego)

Given the recent comments, portrayed attitude adjustment, and league CBA status, does Brandon Marshall return to the Broncos next season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

I'd be very surprised if Denver keeps Marshall.

Rob (philly)

Where does Brandon Marshall end up playing in 2010?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

Here's some possibilities: Seattle, the Jets, Dallas.

todd (philly)

who wins the big game?

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

I'm liking the Saints in a thriller. Very much looking forward to it.

phil (san diego)

What will it take for the chargers to get over the hump and make it to a superbowl, veteran help on D, new RB, ????

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

Both. If San Diego gets a reliable runner and a difference maker on defense, it will be a very difficult team to beat.

Chad (Las Vegas)

Is KC going to draft Clausen? I would think that would be a BIG mistake.

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

There is no way that happens. Cassel is the guy.

Gurman (San Ramon, CA)

Bill, can San Diego land BOTH a new RB and a top NT via the Draft and/or Free Agency?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

Sure, it can happen. I do expect the Chargers to address both needs in the offseason.

bob (ca)

what happens to LT with the chargers at the end of the season? do they keep him or if heif he leaves wheres a good landing spot for him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

I thinki LT is all but gone ... Possible new teams could include Minny, Tenn, GB, New Orleans.

Antwoine (Ia )

do you see the chiefs as having the best coaching staff as of rite now?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

I like SD's staff, but the Chiefs have a strong staff.I love the additions of Crennel, Thomas and Weis.

Steven (Erie,PA)

Hi Bill do you think Mike Iupati or Vladimir Ducasse would be a good pick for Oakland in the first round. And if they take one in the first and the other is available in the second should they take the one still available and get two good o-line players that could play any where on the line.

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

No. 8 may be high for these guys, but they are both good players and they'd both help Oakland.I like Mike. I from Idaho. He's a man.

Antwoine (Ia )

I know V.Wilfork said that he wants to play somewhere warm but do you think he would play for k.c? only if the price is rite huh?

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

He just hit it ... if the price is right. If K.C. offers Wilfork the most money, I'm sure he'd purchase a jacket and be thrilled to be there.

Dexter (pdx)

Can you see Thomas Jones in a Charger uniform in 2010?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

I think Jones, if he becomes available, could be a possibility for the Chargers. He'd be a decent fit.

Jesse (Costa Rica)

Hey Bill, lets says the Raiders have a good QB, you think their offense can be top 10 with all those young weapons ?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

If thsoe young wesapons actually start to play well. The receivers need to hold onto the ball and McFadden needs to start playing like a No.4 overall pick.

Julien (San Diego)

Do the Chargers overlook Vincent Jackson's off-field issues and sign him to a multi-year deal?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

I'm not sure if his driving issues will be overlooked, but I think he will be signed to a deal at some point. He's too good not be kept.

Mike (Sandiego)

with LT recent comments do you see him leaving? Who do you see replacing him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

I don't think the comments have anything to do with it. I think he is done because he can't help much on the field anymore.

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

I don't think the comments have anything to do with it. I think he is done because he can't help much on the field anymore.

Scott (Charlotte, NC)

Great blog, Bill. Is Marshall's problem with Denver, or is he just gonna be a problem everywhere?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

I think Marshall's issues have been maturity-based not location-based.

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

I think Marshall's issues have been maturity-based not location-based.

Julien (San Diego)

What is the Chargers' top priority this offseason?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

RB and NT

Dave (LV)

Kuharsky and Graham vs Yasinskas and Seifert in hoops. Who ya got?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

I got the under.

Brad (PA)

Is Dallas an option for Marshall because you feel they may be able to move Roy Williams?

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

I think Marshall would love to be a Cowboy.

Chad (Las Vegas)

Does the Chargers playing in one of the weaker divisions in the NFL hurt them come playoff time?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

Interesting question, but I don't think so. They play 10 out-of-division games.

Will (San Diego)

Merriman has stated a lot this offseason about wanting to stay in SD. Is there anyway AJ Smith has a change of heart and tries to work things out or applies the franchise tag to him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

I don't think he gets tagged, but I wouldn't be shocked if he stayed.

Joe (Blackfoot)

How many more former Pats does McDaniels sign this year? I say 4. Isn't Troy Brown available?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

I say, at least, two.

Scott (Charlotte, NC)

Is anyone gonna give Tomlinson a chance to be the feature back? It would be lame cauz he is past his prime (by a couple years).

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

I don't see that happening. He's a decent goal-line threat, but that's about it.

Julien (San Diego)

Do you think the Chargers made the right decision moving forward with Rivers and letting Brees go?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

How can you argue with Rivers? He's a star and he's getting better.

Liam (Pleasanton, California)

Bill - can you explain Vincent Jackson's Free agenet status? If somehow they do get a labor deal, he is an unrestricted FA? And if they don't strike a deal, what is his status?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

If there is an uncapped year (which looks likely) he be restricted. If there is a deal, he's unrestricted. Same for Sproles, Merriman and McNeill.

Mike (Chicago)

Bill, do you like the hiring of Hue Jackson in Oakland? Do you see him succeeding where no one else has in Oakland over the last 7 yrs? Also, any chance you think he can turn around J. Russell?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

I like Hue. He's got a good reputation around the league, but don't expect miracles. He's just an assistant that this point. Stil, he was a good hire.

Sherm (Colorado)

Who does Denver take in the 1st rd this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Right now, I'm thinking Ok State receiver Dez Bryant.

Will (San Diego)

Whats going to happen to Darren Sproles? The guy is a great returner and change of pace running back, but is he worth the 6+ million the gave him last season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

He's not a primary back and he will nto be paid like one. But he is valuable as a change-of-pace runner, receiver and he's a great return man. I think the Chargersn should bring him back.

James (Kansas)

Bill, in your latest mock draft you had KC taking Davis because Okung was gone. Why would KC take the 2nd best LT in the draft over the best S prospect in 5 years/Berry, a freak at ILB/McClain or even a top 10 CB/Haden? With 2 second round picks KC could easily upgrade the OL with them...

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

If Berry is there, I could see the Chiefs taking him. But I think Tampa will take him at No. 3.

chris (Pennsylvania)

Do the 49ers have a shot at the NFC west with Warner gone?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

They might be the favorites.

Mike (Ohio)

Out of curiosity, exactly how many times do you think you've been asked about LT's status next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

This about the 112th ... today.

Scott (Charlotte, NC)

Do you think the Denver D will take a step back after losing Nolan?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Martindale was there last year so he knows what worked and what didn't work. The key is continuing to get better stopping the run and, of course, add more talent.

Julien (San Diego)

Is Ron Rivera going to stay as the Chargers d-coordinator or his leaving for head coaching job?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Nope, he's staying. That's good for the team.

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Nope, he's staying. That's good for the team.

Tarek (NYC)

Hey Bill thanks for another chat, are the Raiders Higher on Trev Scott or Matt Shaughnessy? And which one do you like better? Thanks!

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

I think they really like both, Tarek.

Shawn (Toronto)

Does Jarrad Page have a future in Kansas City?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

I thinnk so. He's pretty decent.

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Great hour, folks. Enjoy the Super Bowl. Talk to you next week.
