Hello folks. I'm off to Daytona tomorrow to begin another NASCAR season. What's on your mind as the racing is about to begin?
With Allmendinger and Sadler having great runs at the Daytona 500 last year, do you think either one has a legitimate shot at repeating their performance in what will presumably be better equipment? Both of these drivers truly seem to feel fortunate to be in Ford's this year--- away from obviously inferior dodge r5p7 motor they were stuck with.
Daytona is one of those races where you always should expect the unexpected. So many things have changed with the biggers plates, looser rules on bump drafting and a new engine program for the RPM guys. Having said all that, I wouldn't be surprised to see AJ near the front at the end of the 500.
QUESTIONS TOTERRY BLOUNT AT2.15 HI QUESTION WHO DO YOU HAVE NASCAR CHAMP NUMBER.1 QUESTION 2 DOYOUHAVE FORDAYTONA NEXT SUNDAY
I see your' back at it Raygordon. I picked Hamlin to win the title, but that was before his ACL injury. That concerns me. For the 500 I'll go with Kyle Busch.
Terry please tell me that Dale Junior will rebound this season from a dismal 2009 season and who do you like to win the SuperBowl?
I'd be very surprised if Junior doesn't improve dramaticlaly this year. I expect him to get a win or two. As for the SB, I expect the Colts to win but I'm cheering for the Saints.
what do you expect from jeff gordon this year?
Top 5 in the Chase but no championship.
Glad to see you back, With everything equal right now, who do you see getting the pole, winning the race, and the biggest surprise at Daytona?
Thanks Bill. First, winning the pole at Daytona as absolutely meaningless, but I'll pick Martin. I think Kyle Busch has a good shot to win it. And my surprise pick to do well is Martin Truex Jr.
In what way will Danica Patrick influence Nascar? Will it be significant or are we talking about a minor blip on the radar?
If depends on how well she does, but even if she flops, she will bring a huge amount of added attention to the sport from media outlets that wouldn't care otherwise.
Hey Terry, I'll be glad to get out of the cold and to Daytona next week. Will we see a better season for the Ford contingent this year???? They started out well last season.
I think the Ford group will be much better. I know Biffle is really fired up about the info sharing they've already done with RPM, which is know for good aero balance. Just having more cars should help them.
terry do you think paul menard can be better at rpm. maybe a top five or top ten at a race.
He might get one or two, but Paul is a long way from contender status.
With the new "have at it" encouragement for the drivers this year, who do you see that benefiting? Could we maybe see Earnhardt Jr. get a little more aggressive? Thank you.
I'd say Kyle Busch right off the bat. But it might help Junior to go to the rear spoiler. Biffle also could benefit for looser rule enforcement.
Terry, why do you think Jimmie Johnson always puts together a fantastic Chase but slumps hard in the biggest race of the season, the Daytona 500?
He won it in 2006. A lot of great drivers wish they could say they won it _ Rusty Wallace, Martin, Stewart, for example.
Could you see Marcos Ambrose getting a cup win at somewhere other than a road course this year?
Yes, I think Marcos is capable of winning on ovals, expecially some of the shorter ovals.
Toyota has pumped a lot of money into these recalls. Will this effect any funds they are putting into NASCAR or their image in NASCAR?
Toyoya officials say it won't affect their NASCAR commitment. But it's bound to affect their image in everything they do.
Terry, how bad do you think Chad Knaus wants a Daytona 500? He was suspended during the 48's lone win in 2006. Do Jimmie and Chad get it done this year on the Drive for Five?
Chad acts like it's no big deal, saying he was a part of the 500 win even though he wasn't there, but I know deep down he wants it. I think their chances of a 5th title are excellent. Someone has to prove they can beat them.
Do you think Kyle Bush will handle adversity a little better this year or should he look into getting Kleenex as a sponsor so he has some extra tissues?
I think becoming a team owner could have the same affect on Kyle that it had on Stewart. The added responsiblity makes you sees things in a different light. But I wonder if Kyle is spreading himself too thin.
terry do you think ford will give chevy a run at the title .
Yes I do, but there still is some unknowns about the new Ford engine and when they will use it full time.
I like cornbread and taters. Do you?
Actually I do Chuck, thanks for asking.
Terry, in your complete honest opinion, do you think Atlanta will lose their spring race after the 2010 season? I'd hate to see it go, because I believe Atlanta produces the best racing on the circuit, aside from Daytona and Talladega.
I think it's possible, but this Kentucky thing still has a snag. Some guys involved in the lawsuit are trying to sue Jerry Carroll for droping the lawsuit. I know. It's crazy. But all that stuff must be resolved before NASCAR will give Kentucky a Cup race.
How are car counts looking with new purse/rules/economic climate for this season- Daytona is always full- but how about start and parks this year at other tracks...???
I expect to see full fields at every race, but I really don't tink it matters. In fact, I think fewer cars would be better.
There's been alot of talk about cutting purses this year, but I read that as long as the network contract is in place it just means more moneyfor the tracks. Whats your take on this?
Cutting purses by 10 percent does mean more money for the tracks. That's the point, to try to help the tracks make up for lost income from decreased attendance and lower ticket prices.
Are there any new drivers that could make an impact this year?
If you mean in Cup, no, not really, unless you consider Keselowski new.
Predict Danica's ARCA finish on Saturday?
She has great equipment, but they will tell her to take it easy and bring it home in one piece. I'll say 12th.
Do you expect JR to Rebound in a big way by winning Saturday BudwiserShootout
I don't consider winning the Shootout rebounding in a big way, but it certainly would help his confidence heading into the real season.
Terry why did NASCAR put so much emphasis on avoiding bump drafting in the fall at Talladega, but now they take all of that back?
Because the fall Dega race was a joke, even though they blamed the media for saying so at the time.
Hey Terry, they are going to test the new spoiler in March. How soon do you think it will be before we see it replacing the wing?????
The spoiler probably will debut at Martinsville or Bristol, but the first big track will be Texas in April. That's when we'll see how it works at high speeds.
Does Truex put MWR in the Chase this year?
Good possibility, but I'll say no. His teammate, Marcos Ambrose, might beat him to it.
What do you expect from Montoya in 2010.
Big things. I expect JPM to compete for the title if he has the equipment to get it done.
Will Milka finish ahead of Danica on Saturday?
That would be funny, but I'll say no because DP has way better equipment.
Do you think Danica is going to drive in the NW race at Daytona or is it going to be Bires? And why is JR driving the 88 in the NW and not the 5 car so Bires could drive the 88.
If DP elects to compete at Daytona, Bires probably is out of a ride that day. I think she'll do it unless she wrecks in the ARCA race.
If that did happen though Terry, I think Danica might retire from racing right on the spot because of the embarassment.
Not a chance. The DP money machine would keep on rolling.
Who has the best shot to dethrone the 48? Do you see that happening or does Jimmie get number 5 this year?
As I said, I'm going with Denny, but his teammates Kyle Busch also could make a run at JJ. And Montoya also could get after it.
Now that fans have succeeded in having the wing replaced, how long till the splitter is replaced or redesigned?
First, I think NASCAR realy wants to see how things go with the redesigned COT in the NW series. That's only four races this year, but the distinctive front grills have created quite a buzz.
All the talk of Danica in Nationwide this year has taken away from the fact that another "BuschWacker" won the title again. Do you see a Nationwide regular having a shot at the title?
Absolutely not, and that saddens me. Edwards is a heavy favorite to win it. When will the madness end?
Terry, I may be able to make the twin 150's next Thursday. How soon should I get there for tickets that day????? Thanks.
It won't sell out, but I get there as early as possible to beat the traffic. International Blvd. get pretty crazy that day.
Do you think Michael Waltrip will qualify for the 500?
Yes I do, and he won't need any rocket fuel.
If Joe Gibbs does decides to bring Kasey Kahne in next year and Gibbs not wanting Budwiser as a Sponsor. Could we see Budwiser retuning to JR
I doubt it. I think that ship has sailed.
I don't know if anyone has asked this yet. Does Denny plan on taking a cortisone shot (or anything) that would help with deal with pain while driving? Also, does NASCAR even allow this type of thing?
Good question. NASCAR would have to approve it, but I don't think Denny expects any pain in the knee while he's racing.
Welcome back Terry!!! Two questions for you....First how do you see Kasey Kahne doing this year? and Second Kasey Kahne will be with a)RPM b) Stewart-Hass c) Gibbs or d) replacing Ragin at RFR?
1) I expect Kasey to make the Chase. 2) I say he'll end up at JGR.
how much do you think the disappointment of the 88 took away from what should have been the best season ever for Mr. Hendrick?
Not much. They finished 1-2-3 in the standings, a remarkable achievement. But Rick is pumping all the resources he can into making the 88 better.
I know Junior is waiting to see how Danica does in the ARCA race but do you think she is ready for the Daytona Nationwide race. I read that she is having trouble with the drafting.
If it were my decision, I wouldn't put her in the NW race at Daytona. That's basically a Cup race because so many Cup stars compete in that event. It's throwing her to the wolves.
What's the latest with the remaining sponsorship on the 17, and how do you think that team will run this season? Thanks Terry
I'm not sure but Kenseth said last week he thinks all the sponsoship will be in place by the start of the season.
with NASCAR "putting things back in the driver's hands" who do you think will be the first "feud" of the seaon?
I'll say Kyle Busch and Montoya. Now wouldn't hat be a hoot to see?
HOW DO YOU FEEL SPECIAK K WILL DO THIS YEAR? ALSO, WHO WILL HAVE A BETTER FINISH, BRAD OR HORNISH AT THE END OF THE SEASON?
I'll say Brad K finishes higher than Sam, but neither of them will set the world of fire this year.
Terry, what do you think Penske cars will do being the only Dodge
Good question. The Penske folks honestly think it's an advantage because Dodge is spending all its time and resources exclusive with those three cars. But they don't have anything to compare themselves to, so it's hard to say.
Why did Kelloggs leave Hendrick as a sponsor. They had been with Hendrick a long time
This is just a guess, but probably because Hendrick Motorsports wanted too much money in a down economy.
Do you think Shell will follow Harvick to his next ride.
It wouldn't surprise me. The Shell folks really like Kevin.
Terry you think Kurt have a chance this year wining the championship.
I think Steve Addington will help Kurt, but I'm not sure Dodge can get it done with only one team.
are we "close" to seeing a female crew chief? are there any in ARCA or smaller series? any major engineers at any of the team shops? or are we still A LONG ways from seeing anything like that?
I don't know any that are close, but there should be some.
Do you honestly think that Kentucky will produce better ratings, attendance, but most importantly "racing" than Atlanta? I just love the high speeds in Hampton and the great time going to that track. I'd hate to see it lose a date.
I think Kentucky is a good track for racing, but it isn't about that. It's about how many seats you can sell. Atlanta hasn't donea good job of that lately.
who is your favorite driver
I don't have a favorite driver, but there are many drivers I respect for the candor and professionalism _ Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton, Jamie McMurray, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Marcos Ambrose, to name a few.
Nice to be back chatting guys. Gotta go pack. Have a great week. Peace.
