Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Hi evryone, let's get rolling:

Keith (Springfield, MO)

Hey Bill. I read a rumor from profootballtalk.com that states that the Broncos may end up being for sale (now that the sale of the Rams is complete). You see this happening?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

You never know, but I know Pat Bowlen loves that team. But in this climate, anything is possible.

PV (Sacramento)

Antonio Pierce was released by the giants, what are the chances he ends up in oakland, or in the afc west in general?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Oakland? You must have forgetton the rip job Pierce did on Oakland after the Giants beat the Raiders 44-7 in October. He said it was like playing a scrimmage. I don't think he wants the Raiders and vice versa.

logan (SD)

with LT out . whats the chances of SD getting abig name in San Diego like Reggie Bush. He did go to school in SoCal, he would be close to his girlfriend, and he could be a starter instead of being behind someone. What do you think??possible or wishful thinking on my part???

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

I'm sure Bush would love to be there, but he wouldn't fix SD's running problem. He is not an every-down back.

Brandon (Utah)

Do you think KC will go after Stallworth?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

It's possible. He has history with Scott Pioli.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

What did you think of the movie "The Blind Side" which is the life story of Michael Oher?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Haven't seen it yet. You like it?

Greg (Denver, CO)

Any truth to the rumor that Russell is actually working out hard this off-season with a former trainer at LSU and committed to coming back next season in great shape?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

I've been told he is working out with a trainer in Arizona and he ahs already lost a decent amount of weight.

Bob (Oakland)

Would you be stunned if Oakland took D. Bryant at #8? Seems unfathomable to me, but the guy is a legitimate #1 WR option and terrific returner. That would tie up an incredible amount of money at the position, but since OT seems like such a glaring need, I just fear that it's too obvious for Davis to take.

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

Should anything stun us when it comes to Oakland and the draft?

CB (Virginia)

Shaun Phillips is "Cro-Choice" (referring to the trade rumor, obviously). Are you? I used to like Cro, but the "missed tackle" (to put it lightly) against the Jets soured me.

Jake Mount (Philadelphia)

What do you think the Eagles will do with all three of their Quarterbacks?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

I would not be shocked if Cromartie was playing elsewhere in 2010. Let's put it this way: You are not the anyone soured on Cromartie.

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

To answer he Philly question: I still think McNabb will be there.

Antwoine (Des Moines)

"With the 5th pick in the nfl draft the Kansas City Chiefs select?"

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

An OT.

Adam (Kansas)

If your Kansas City, why not take a chance and sign a Vince Wilfork or Julius Peppers? We desperately need a defensive playmaker, and Peppers obviously can fill that role. We have the money to spend!!!

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

I couldn't agree with you more.

Denton (Hays, KS)

Hey Bill, if the Broncos end up mending the relationship with Marshall. Do they still draft Dez Bryant? If so does this kind of sweep Eddie Royal out of the receiving core? I would think if Marshall stays that they use the pick for the O line or the D line. What is your take?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

If Marshall stays, Denver probably goes to defense with the top pick.

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

If Marshall stays, Denver probably goes to defense with the top pick.

Josh (Thayer, MO)

Hey Bill, I am not a hater of Kyle Orton. I thought he did a great job this year for my beloved Broncos but if you have the opportunity to bring a guy like McNabb in, don't you at least have to explore it. He has a some injury issues but he is only 33. That's about the same age as Brady and manning and I don't hear people saying they are old.

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

Sure, explore it, but just don't spend too much on him and don't think he is the missing link.

Roger (Minneapolis)

Right now as it stands would you pick the Chargers to win the AFC?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

They've won four straight division titles. How can you go against them right now?

Chris (Chicago)

Bill, is Kyle Orton going to be the QB in Denver next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

I think so, I think so.

Robbie (Denver)

What are the chances donte stallworth signs in the AFC West, or what are some possible locations for him league wide

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

I think the AFC West possibilities for Stallworth are KC and Denver because of the New England connections.

Aaron (Denver)

Bill ur late!!!

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

For what?

Saul (San Diego)

Hey Bill, great blog. It's been pretty apparent that the chargers aren't keen on keeping Merriman because of his off the field issues. Is there even a demand for Merriman out there with other teams? Basically I'm asking if there's a chance the chargers franchise him and hope to get a first and third in return.

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

Thanks Saul, I don't think it's a slam-dunk that Merriman will leave. I could see him staying.

Matt (IA)

Bill - Is Chris Kuper a good fit in Denver's new OL scheme?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

Not a perfect fit, but it could work. With that said, I could see him ending up in Washington with Shanahan.

Richard (Raider Nation)

Bill who would be a bigger loss if they left their team Elvis Dumervil Richard Seymour or Shawn Merriman

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

Oakland because it owes a first-round pick for Seymour next year. It would be a devastating blow.

Antwoine (Des Moines)

Who is the better team right now Oakland or Kansas City?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

Probably Oakland by a shade.

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

Probably Oakland by a shade.

Dan (Olathe, KS)

Is Brad Cottam a long-term answer at TE in KC?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

He has injury issues. Expect KC to look for moe tight-end help.

Gurman (San Ramon, CA)

Bill, since playoff teams are restricted from bringing in Free Agents, can San Diego land BOTH a top RB and NT in this Draft?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

San Dieog usually concentrates on the draft anyway, so yes. But if the Chargers lose one FA (and they will) they can go get another player.

Al (Wausau, WI)

Bill, could the Vikings possibly be a destination for Antonio Cromartie if he's traded? Possibly for Chester Taylor as a replacement for Tomlinson?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

That would be a nice deal for SD.

Andrew (Bakersfield CA)

Do you think Kansas city will trade Dorsey for picks? And if so to who?

Al (Wausau, wI)

Bill, how's Bobby Wade doing in Kansas City? I was a fan of his when he was with the Vikings. Do you think he'll be on the Chiefs in 2010, and in what capacity?

Ryan (Maryland)

I've heard the Chargers are in discussions with the Cowboys to swap Cromartie and Tashard Choice? Have you heard anything? Would this be a good move for the Chargers?

Buzzmaster
  (2:34 PM)

Hang on a sec folks. Technical difficulties.

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

I don't think Dallas wants to trade Choice

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

We're having some tech issues, bare with us.

Derek (Toronto)

Can you see the Broncos drafting Mike Iupati (OG - Idaho) and going after the Pats OG Mankins? Would those 2 solve the OL prolmes given we already have bookend OT's for the next Generation?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

Sure, that kid from Idaho is a beast. Love him.

Mike (Oakland)

Hi Bill.Have you seen ?Rebels with a Cause ? The Story of the American Football League?? Being a Raiders fan, I always wondered why Al Davis was so angry at various people. This documentary kind explains how...as AFL Commissioner...some of his fellow owners did an "end around" on him with regard to the merger.

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

I need to check that out.

Fred (Plymouth,PA)

Hey Bill do you think the Broncos should start the season at .500 to avoid the collapse for the third straight year? (BTW I'm joking)

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

Sure, they will be 0-0.

Julien (San Diego)

Does a team moving to Los Angeles spell a new afc west opponent?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

Not sure what the league would do about that one.

mike mclaughlin (willows ca.)

REGGIE BUSH WILL BE A SF 49ES AS P/R AND RUNING BACK.

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

You think so?

Richard (Raider Nation)

Do you see the raider drafting McClain only if they lose Morrison or Howard in free agency

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

Sure. That would be a good call. I think that guy is going to be a star.

Preston (MI)

Bill Who out of the remaining NFL teams that have not won a super bowl make it first?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

I think there is four: Browns, Lions, Jags and Panthers.

Rob (San Jose)

Do you see any teams going after Janikowski especially with a leg like he has. I love having this guy in Oakland and always wondered if any other teams really have interest in him(especially since games today are coming down to 3 pts) You're thought's? Btw, gotta give you props on your blog, love em and am always keeping up on my AFC west news through you

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

Thanks Rob, I think Oakland does all it can to keep Seabass.

Doug (Toronto)

Bill, what is the time frame that LT will be released by SD. Also, Does Jamal Williams come back next year at $5 mill a year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

He will be cut by March 5 ... I think Williams may have to take a cut.

joe (California)

If the Redskins dont draft Berry with the 4th pick do you see the chiefs getting him with the 5th pick?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

I think the Chiefs would be thrilled with Berry. Depends on what happens at LT, though.

Warren (Denver)

If the Broncos trade Marshall, is there any chance they'll get a 1st round pick?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

They may ask, but I'm not sure if they will get that high of a pick.

Jon (Mobile)

I guess the Super Bowl means that Philip Rivers is the new best QB without a ring, eh?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

He might be, yeah.

Tom (Simi Valley, CA)

McDaniels defended Moreno's lack of big runs as issues with the offensive line. Then why was Buckhalter routinely able to average 5 yds per carry when he was in there? Maybe because Buckhalter wasn't good at slipping and falling down behind the line of scrimmage?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

You make good points, sir.

Adam (Redlands, CA)

If Kyle Orton is not a long term solution in Denver, do you draft a QB this year with unproven Tom Brandstater waiting in the wings?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

I think a QB will be drafted late again.

Jared (Oregon)

Who's in the hall of fame first? Tim Brown, Shannon Sharp or Ray Guy?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

I think Sharpe is ahead of Brown on the list and Guy may have trouble ever getting in ... Oh, and by the list, I mean the voting committee's list, so don't get riled at me for this one, Raider Nation.

Julien (San Diego)

who was the afc west player of the year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Rivers, no doubt.

Alvaro (Tijuana)

Do you think Mike Tolbert can be the answer for the Chargers for there running atack, or do they definately need to find someone in the draft or free agency???

Ray (El Paso)

Does Denver go low key, for a change, this off season? Or is it more turmoil?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

With all of those RFAs, I don't see it being quiet in Denver this offseason, maybe not totally nuts like last year, but not as nutty.

Denton (Hays, KS)

What are the chances LT ends up in Denver?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

John Clayton has reported it could be a possibility. It would be as a goal-line guy.

Doug (Toronto)

Bill, I know AJ Smith doesn't go after big name FA's. Does he change it up and go after Julius Peppers this year? Especially if Merriman leaves for compensation.

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

It would still be an upset.

Jeff (Dallas)

What are the chances Peppers or Wilfork end up in denver?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

Both palyers have to be looked at as potential fits.

Richard (Greensboro, NC)

Broncos more likely to sign a FA DT or pursue one in the later rounds of the draft?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Both.

Rick (Marina)

Do you think the Chargers should switch to a 4-3, re sign merriman at de and then sign peppers at the other de and draft a dt, dobbins, siler, phillips the lbs, that sounds like pretty solid front 7.

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Nah, the 3-4 fits the Chargers pretty well.

Larry (Denver)

Hi Bill. If the Broncos were able to keep Marshall, pick up some key free agents, draft some good talent, and trade for McNabb, would that propel them into the top of the AFC West? Thanks Bill

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

Sure, but you cna say that about any team.

Nouri (Greeley, CO )

If we trade for anybody in return for first round fraft pick, will we get Dez Bryant and Tim Tebow? What do you think?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

I'm not a Tebow guy, at least early in the draft.

Julien (San Diego)

what do you think of the comments that if LT had a solid fullback in front of him he could still be a threat in the running game?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

Well, he was very good with Lo Neal.

Adam (Missouri)

What is a record the Chiefs should shoot for next season? I was thinking at least 6 wins would be nice, AT THE VERY LEAST, wouldn't you say?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Yes, 6 or 7 wins would be good. This tema needs to make progress.

Randy (Grove, OK)

The Chiefs have 3 picks in the top 50 of this years draft...We know they need o-line. What other positions should they address with those picks? Thanks

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

WR, LB and S.

Don (Il)

Bill why cant the media just lat off the raider bashin

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

What did I do know?

Randy (Grove, OK)

Is Glenn Dorsey really still a fit in the 3-4 defense? Do you think he gets moved this offseason?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

He's not a good fit. So, a trade could happen. This regime didn't draft him, so it may lose patience quickly.

Mike (Oakland)

Bill..not getting on you at all (honest)...but the list is flawed;Games: Sharpe 204 Brown 202, Yards: Sharpe 10060 Brown 14934 Recps: Sharpe 815 Brown 1094 TDs: Sharpe 62 Brown 100

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

Thye both should be in ... But in fairness to Sharpe, he played three less seasons than Brown and he won three more Suepr Bowl rings than Brown.

travis (corona, ca)

could the broncos be trying to trade for kevin kobb instead of mcnabb?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

Now, that would be interesting.

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Great hour folks, talk to you next week ... Try to survive our first weekend without football.
