Hello, everyone. Are you watching the Gatorade Duels from Daytona? Today is sort of the beginning of the motor sports season, if you ask me.
Texas Aggie Basketball is loking good heading into the Big Monday game vs. #1 Kansas. What are the Aggies chances of winning it at Reed Arena?
I'll tell you, it should be a great game. But Kansas is playing so well right now, I'd have to take the Jayhawks. But A&M certainly has a chance at home in the game. I think it will be close and entertaining.
Hello Richard, who do you think will be a pleasant suprise for the Rangers this year?
I think Rich Harden will prove to be a great signing. I don't know why, but I just think he'll stay healthy and really pitch well. Also, I expect Julio Borbon to open some eyes.
Hi Richard, will Frank Francisco be able to hold down the closer's job for the Rangers? He seemed to be injured often last year.
He goes into spring training as the top closer, but he does have to prove he can stay healthy. He had three different stints on the DL last season. Certainly, the club is planning that Francisco can stay healthy and be a productive closer for the club. I still think Neftali Feliz could eventually be a great closer if the club decides not to start him. But that's later on. We'll see what happens.
I know it is way too early right now, When will you see Danica Patrick race in her first Sprint Cup Series Race?
Wow. I don't know. She enjoyed the ARCA race enough that she's racing in the Nationwide event on Saturday in Daytona. But getting a chance at Cup is another matter. Still, I bet she'll be in one no later than 2011.
What are the chances the Rangers add one more solid Veteran Pitcher before they leave Suprise and head back to Arlington?
It wouldn't shock me. It won't be anyone making big money, obviously, but GM Jon Daniels is always looking to add pitching depth.
What do you think about the NCAA rule that now treats Muschamp as a head coach for recruiting purposes? Does it unfairly target UT? Or is a fair response to schools designating head coaches in waiting in an attempt to hang onto assistants that would otherwise be jumping to other schools?
Personally, I don't like the "head coach in waiting" deal. The best way to be a "head coach in waiting" at a place like Texas is to be a head coach at a good program somewhere else and prove you can do the job. That's not a shot at Will Muschamp. I think he's an excellent defensive coordinator and will be a good head coach. But if a school wants to give him the "head coach in waiting" designation to keep him, the penalty is they don't get as many recruiting visits. I really don't have a problem with it. But I know I'm in the minority there.
Do you think TCU will return to a BCS game next season?
I think the Fiesta Bowl loss makes it difficult, actually. TCU should still start in the top 10 and have a chance, but Boise State will be in front of them. And if the Broncos get past Virginia Tech, which is a tough nonconference game, they'll likely go undefeated. So TCU would also have to go undefeated and then hope the BCS invites two non-BCS schools again. What are the chances of that? TCU is good enough to go undefeated again in 2010. But getting back to a BCS bowl is not automatic.
Two questions, Do you think the Rangers have a legitimate chance to win the AL west this season? Do you think the Mavs will deal Josh Howard before the trade deadline?
Yes and No. Call me crazy, but I don't think they'll trade Howard. I think they'll try, but I'm not sure the right deal is there. We'll see. But I do think the Rangers have a legimate chance to win the AL West. They improved in the offseason, but so did everyone else. Still, this is a solid team that goes in as a contender with a legitmate chance.
What do you know about Frisco's bid to bring the FCS title game to Pizza Hut Park?
I know they are making a presentation in a few weeks to try to get the championship game to Frisco. The Southland Conference is trying to make that bid happen. I'm going to dig a little more into how they are doing. Thanks.
what are you hearing about Neftali Feliz. Is he a starter or closer?
He'll go into the spring as a starter. The team will then see what happens. I know he wants to start.
Turco has been linked to a few differnt clubs recently, any chance one of those pulls the trigger before the trade deadline?
Sure, there's a chance. The Stars don't want to carry three goalies. But I don't think it's automatic he gets traded, either. Marty Turco gives this team its best chance for a playoff run right now. But the Stars have to weigh that with the chance to get something for him before he likely leaves at the end of the season.
do you think turco will get traded for blueline help? or do the stars stand pat with goalies? it would be nice to get something for turco instead of losing him for nothing
I understand that feeling. I do think they'll try to do something. We'll see what the value is for Turco.
Do you play World of Warcraft?
With the Big 10 courting Texas and the Pac 10 looking expand as well, how do you see the FBS conferences looking 2 years from now?
They will look different. I think it will be interesting to see what happens with all the dominoes that fall. If Texas were to leave for the Big 10 (and I don't see that happening), it could open the door for TCU or Houston or someone like that. If Utah and BYU go to the Pac 10, that would alter the Mountain West. A lot of things can happen.
Your thoughts on the possibilities, and the reality that UT will join the Big 10
It's a smart move by the Big 10 to try to get UT to move. But I can't see it. They are in a solid conference now and have natural rivalries in the region.
Since Elvis andrus and Neftali feliz were both international signings by the Braves, what are their contracts like and how long are they under contract?
Andrus is still a pre-arbitration player, so they have him for a while. Same with Feliz. I don't have the exact years in front of me, but they'll be Rangers for a while.
Richard, Hicks is selling the Rangers....surprised that he didn't have to sell the Roughriders or is that quietly part of the Rangers transaction?
The club is owned by Mandalay Entertainment and is separate, so it doesn't have anything to do with it. They should have some fun players to watch this season.
Give us your pre-season top 5 college football teams and your picks to play in the BCS Championship game.
It's difficult to predict. Alabama is clearly the No. 1 team with nearly everybody coming back. But Texas has some questions. Florida does too. Oklahoma should be good, but they've got an unproven QB too. TCU returns a bunch of players and should be good again. Boise State returns even more and beat TCU in the Fiesta Bowl. Iowa, Ohio State, Oregon and Virginia Tech are possibilities. How's that for sitting on the fence?
Would the sale of the Stars effect the Texas Stars of the AHL, since Hicks sons run the team?
It might. Hicks said the Texas Stars could be a part of the deal if the right investor comes in. His kids also own the arena down there.
Thanks everyone for your questions. See you next week.
