Chat with Jesse Rogers

Jesse Rogers
  (2:01 PM)

Hi all. Welcome to our weekly Hawks chat. No practice today so plenty of time for your questions. I'll stay as long as it takes so fire away.

Andrew Pajak (Tinley Park)

Hey Jesse, just wondering if the wiz will be coming back? I heard George Parros might be coming with him to. Thank You and Go Hawks!

Jesse Rogers
  (2:04 PM)

Im going to say doubtful on both ends...The Wiz thing surprised me. Why would Anaheim trade for him and then trade him away? His pay is in line with similiar D-men and Anaheim needs him..especially if Nieds retires. I think he's a backup plan if at all...I know he wasnt loved by the Hawks in the past..hence basically giving him away but that could have been the tallon/dudley regime. The ducks have climbed back in it a bit so he may not go anywhere. I saw longshot

Jimmy P (Madhouse in OL)

do you think kane has the potential to lead the league in scoring eventually?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:04 PM)

Not with Ovechkin and Crosby around. His size might limit him in some ways to really put the huge numbers up but hes top 10 for sure

Jesse (Chicago, Illinois)

Jesse,It looked like the Brouwer-Versteeg-Hossa line had a lot of chemistry in the 3rd period. Do you see Q running that line out there again this weekend with Madden down? I would think a line of Ladd-Bolland-Buff would be in order as a checking line. Putting Bolland on the third line might advisable given that he's coming back from injury.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:07 PM)

Hmm. good question. practice the next 2 days will tell a lot obviously. I think they will go back to the drawing board if madden is out...still want bolland with hossa i believe..steeg has played well his last 2 but that center thing isnt his cup of tea..all depends if they want to keep sharp where he is or go back to brouwer there and sharp at center somewhere else...i kind of like that idea better

rusty (barrington)

we should trade for the american dream, mike modano. your thoughts?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:07 PM)

If say, madden, was out for a long time I'd take a look otherwise, pass...

John (Iowa City, IA)

When Burish gets back, what do you think our 4 lines will look like? Which 2 forwards sit most often?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:10 PM)

Ill just answer the last one...eager and kopecky probabaly sit most often if everyone is healthy...fraser maybe a little...or if a top 9 stinks it up and joel wants to send a message then theres no reason they cant sit once in a while...trade might take care of things..and of course injuries...already eager and madden prob wont play this weekend

ben (woodridge)

How serious is John Madden's injury? I read a quote that he definitely will not play until after the Olympics - cause for concern or are they just planning to roll into the Olympic break without hurrying him back?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:10 PM)

Didnt look too serious when I saw him last night...limping a bit...would be easy to play it safe and just wait till after so unless miraculous recovery Id expect that

Brian (Glenview)

Trade Rumors is just one giant book of schemes and lies, with that said I have heard a recent rumor that John Madden was possibly being shopped by the Hawks. Any truth to this? Also, which defenseman do you like for the Hawks to get before the deadline and why?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:13 PM)

Yeah, these rumors are nuts...and then when there is a trade it is still a surprise. i never read anything that said lehtonen to dallas but i wasnt looking for it either...anyway, i dont believe madden is available...doesnt make any sense if he was...you got him for the spring, right? we're almost there...as for D-men..I would like a full court press for Nieds..make them say no. othersie its a depth guy...aaron ward, andy sutton, maybe wiz..someone with some toughness but prob isnt a true top 4 but close...

Dan (Elk Grove Village)

There continues to be talk that the Hawks are in the market for a defenseman to improve their depth. Who are some names you've heard that may peak Bowman's interest? Also, who would likely lose significant ice time if a deal is done?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:14 PM)

I just gave some and I'd say Campbell would lose some and the trickle down from there...depends on who it is..if its a PK guy then sopel loses some there

Dave (Glendale Heights)

Hey Jesse...with the NHL roster freeze coming in the next few days for the Olympic break, do you see teams (specifically the Hawks) trying to sneak a last minute trade in before the break? i would think if teams were talking trade they would want to get it done before they run the risk of these players getting hurt in the Olympics, right?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:16 PM)

In the hawks case my gut says they will wait till the last minute to do something...they are in a tough spot unless something falls in their lap. major decisions to make so they may wait to see the whoile picture as long as they can..but we've seen other teams make trades...i dont think the olympics has any bearing..

Kevin (Chicago)

What's wrong with Versteeg? He's always good for a few lapses in judgement (particularly at the blue lines), but before yesterday, he hasn't looked the same - especially his stickhandling. Do you think he's worried/nervous over all of these potential trades involving him? Is it the constant line juggling? Or is he battling some type of injury?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:19 PM)

Was asked this the other day in my mailbag blog. I think he's like a crazy 3 point shooter...when the shot goes up you're like "Oh, man" what's he doing but if it goes in, you're like "Yes." Yesterday his bag of tricks was working..some other games it doesnt. you either have to live with the good and bad or not cause it seems thats what he is...i do like his flair..as long as THE puck doesnt go the other way!

DANNY (NORTH SIDE)

most of the time when Niemi is in net it seems like the rest of the team picks up the tempo and tries harder than when Huet is starting. Is this just a coincidence or do you think they play harder cause Niemi is still new to the league and unsolved?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:20 PM)

Thats quite a generalization...they actually tend to give up more shots when niemi is in there but that could be because he plays the back end of back to backs more often than not...what has emerged is this: niemi is more likely to bail the D out when they make a big mistake than Huet..that has to lie somewhere sub-conciously for those guys at least a little..

Fitz (my cube)

Jesse, My buddy Chicro thinks Niemi will take over the #1 spot by March 5th, I say Huet starts game one of the playoffs. Your thoughts? As always keep up the good work.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:22 PM)

My opinion...they play near equal in march...huet still a little bit more unless he's bad...that month determines playoffs..i still beleive they will give huet every chance to be the guy but wont hesitate to go to niemi...dont believe march 5 you see niemi 3 out of every 4 or whatever...

Kevin (Wrigleyville)

Whats the word on the injuries to Madden and Fraser? Also the timetable for Burrish's return?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:23 PM)

2nd week of march for burrish...fraser is fine...madden undetermined but saw him limping a little last night..could miss this weekend..its just the day after so have to see how he responds..not sure the exact injury

Dan (Glen Ellyn)

Jesse,I keep hearing all of this talk about the goaltender situtation with the hawks and I am wondering where this is coming from. We have the second fewest goals allowed in the NHL and alot of the scoring chances the opponents have had are from sloppy defensive plays in our own zone. It seems that if Niemi and Huet have gotten us this far, they can continue to be solid in the playoffs. Agree???

Jesse Rogers
  (2:26 PM)

Absolutely agree..There is no credible proof the hawks are even looking at goaltending. Now if I know stan bowman, hes kicking the tires on everything cause you dont want to leave any stone unturned but ill be mildly shocked if they get one..you want turco? forget it. If the Hawks play like the Hawks and dont suddenly implode, they dont need a Vezina winner to win the cup. the reality of a new goaltender just doesnt work with all its "fallout"

Alex (Flossmor)

On the power play: Buff on the point vs. Buff in front of net, discuss!

Jesse Rogers
  (2:28 PM)

Been getting this one all year...im going to have to say point...mostly cause he isnt embracing the net thing like maybe he did in the playoffs...maybe they do it again come spring but right now i have no prob with his shot from back there...they have enough guys that can stand in front of the net..now if he wanted to be tomas holmstrom, that would be a diff story so I guess until he embraces it, i say point

Jon (Bloomington, IN)

Would someone like duncan kieth or brent seabrook take a run at Kaner or Hossa if they were to meet in Vancouver?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:30 PM)

Ill be writing about this very topic in my blog in the next 24 hours...the answer ive gotten is yes but no cheap shots...i tried to present a "Willie Mitchell on Toews kind of Hit". You know the most extreme example. and the guys were a little less committed to that. basic answer is yes. in fact toews said hed be looking forward to it.

Eric (Champaign)

If the Hawks go after a D-man, what about Sheldon Souray? He's big, got a huge shot and I'd be willing to give a Versteeg and Barker for him.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:33 PM)

first of all he just broke his hand in a fight..2nd, hes signed for a bunch more years...dont even look at anyone signed past this year. not in the cards for the hawks. contract HAS to be up. its why I laugh at the tim thomas stuff. there are about 5 reasons they wont got after thomas and the fact that hes signed at 35 years old for another 3 years keeps making me laugh

Michael (Chicago)

What 3 d-men should the Blackhawks be targeting the most between now and march 3?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:34 PM)

NIeds, Nieds, NIedsafter that a little bit of a crapshoot..i like the wiz stuff if its true..i kind of like andy sutton on NYI but havent heard good things...they will have to rely on their scouts if its just a depth guy and not a huge name

Hack (chicago)

Do you plan on attending Campbell's poker tourney and if so, do you plan on doing a writeup with some photos?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:35 PM)

I plan on it...not 100% sure but plan on it..and yes, video at least maybe photos and certainly who won, etc. why, you my editor??

Michael (Chicago)

Should we be worried about the Canadian team wearing out Keith and Seabrook? The Detroit Red Wings coach is Canada's coach...i'm just saying.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:36 PM)

Nah...if he doesnt win gold cause hes wearing out 2 guys in case the wings play them 2 months from now, hes got some bigger issues

David (Buffalo Grove)

Jesse, After the break, when the Hawks are at full strength and assuming the roster stays as is, what are your 4 lines and who are the scratches?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:39 PM)

Theses are MY four lines...kane/toews/brouwer...bolland/hossa/sharp...madden/buff/ladd...fraser/steeg/burish....maybe rotate eager in there or let bur play center and sit fras once...but i like maximizing brouwer with kane/toews and the three smartest players (not named toews)are on that 2nd line in my opinion..

Nick (Deerfield)

did you ever find out who got the upsportsman like penatly at the end of the Blues Game? There was a question of whether it was someone on the bench or Sopel saying something on the ice. Hard to believe it was the latter. Either way, the ref should stick his whistle in his pocket since the Blues were already on the powerplay.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:40 PM)

It was sopel.. think he called the ref a name..dont know why and consensus was it should not have been a penalty..but I didnt poll the refs!

David (Buffalo Grove)

Who are the 3 nicest/coolest Blackhawk players to deal with off the ice?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:41 PM)

Hmmm..all pretty nice of course but I would go, really, in no order...kane, Buff, brouwer...fraser right there as well

Jason (Denver)

If the hawks do not do anything at the deadline, should there be a concern come playoff time?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:43 PM)

Thats really the big question and I think one reason they will wait as long as possible..just to be sure they're doing the right thing..this is stans first go around and what a time to be the man in the hot seat...i think they will tell you, it wouldnt be the worst thing to leave the team as is...but i have a feeling scotty knows feb is one thing, june is another and they might need to fortify..especially on D...remember, its like playing a quarter to a third of another season to win it all..not easy and have to plan for it

Nick (Deerfield)

Thrashers up next and they are 1-1 since the Kovy trade. What should we be looking for in that game?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:45 PM)

I think the intersitng thing will be who is in goal for the hawks of course. prob niemi right? then u go back to huet, whos done well against columbus plus that game is less than 24 hours later with travel..but dont think itll be an easy game sat. they are still thiking playoffs without Kovy and Lehtonen (who hasnt played anyway) plus JOhn Andersone returns!

Michael (Chicago)

What's with all the line jumbling lately? Is it just Coach Q trying to find what fits now that Bolland is back or is he looking for the best possible line seeing as the Blackhawks are almost guaranteed a top 3 seeding?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:46 PM)

Trying to find what fits and will have to re-adjust without madden this weekend..whats the difference...2 week break...a new start after that so march is the prep for the playoffs and hwo knows what the lines will look like

Mike (Chicago)

Hawks need a 2nd line center because Bolland is NOT the answer (surgery or not) and a proven goalie like Turco. Huet is average at best and the "good" numbers that he has are a result of the team in front of him, not because he is outstanding. No way you can continue to play the way the Hawks are playing and have a shot at the Cup. We have looked flat the last month, time to make a move. Thoughts?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:48 PM)

U need to give Bolland some time. Heard criticism of Hossa first couple weeks and hes just fine..bolly is a smart, good player...maybe not excellent but pretty good for 2nd line...what has turco proven? he can lose in the first round 3 stright years...lose in the 2nd rd as a top seed? win 2 rounds once?? if the hawks play their game huet or niemi can do it. ill say it again. dont care how they got there...in the history of the league i cant recall a team trading for a goalie when they are numebr 1 in goals against and have the only goalie in the league under 2.00 per game..cause more issues than resolve in my opinion

Imre (Missoula, MT)

I just want to give kudos to Brent Sopel!!! Great finish by him last night, huh? For some of the grief he gets he really is a gritty hard-working mate that a teams like this needs.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:50 PM)

Was a good finish but regulation..youch! Simple plays...he shouldnt be spinning back behind his net..backhand it out...dont waste time in your own zone..the other team is coming! the man will block a shot thats for sure

Alex (Chicago)

After hearing rumors about a Turco trade, what would the Hawks have to give up for Turco?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:51 PM)

After the way he played last night, bag of pucks.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:51 PM)

I owuld say a draft pick and mid level prospect..dont have to give up a player from big team in my opinion..hes had a bad year. maybe cause of D but its been bad

Jesse Rogers
  (2:52 PM)

BY the way, if you fortify your defense, your goaltending will be that much better

Michael (Chicago)

What exactly has Hossa brought to the Blackhawks this season and what will he bring to the playoffs?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:54 PM)

Youre not going to get a bad word from me about hossa. to me, plays on another level. he hasnt "finished" like we'd all hope but that could be timing coming off the injury...hes smart, GREAT with his stick. I mean great with it. complete package. take my word. best player on the ice most nights with all he can do..playoffs, hopefully he goes to another gear..

John S (Chicago)

Jesse, how do the Hawks fix their struggling powerplay? I think they need a true goal scorer/shooter - like Selanne.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:56 PM)

Real good question. Other than really one stretch it has underachieved this season...hmm..i thought sharp could be a poor man's selanne..be honest, i dont have the answer...let kane carry the puck in the zone as much as possible is one thing but once in there, im not sure and not sure the coaches know whats wrong...i do like when they are all moving without the puck.weave style..it maximizes what they can do so that would be my suggestion

John (IC, IA)

I'm content with our goalie situation and don't think we need to make a move. I especially like the way Niemi plays. That said, Niemi seems to give up an awful lot of rebounds. You notice this at all, and do the coaches do some work with him at practice about this?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:58 PM)

Lately, he has. Before Vancouver he wasnt so maybe some bad habits as season wears on. They absolutely work on it in practice. I see it everyday but practice is one thing...Q mentioned it last night...getting "better" at it..keep an eye cause he let a BAD one last night on that 2nd goal i think. no screen, left it right there, i could have knocked it home

Brett (Aurora)

Any chance the Hawks could lose Hammer in the off season?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:59 PM)

Yes..but I only say that because theres a chance they could lose anyone not locked up..they have to shed at least 15 mil..maybe more. its sad to think about but this team will look different next year..no two ways about it. hopefully they can sign him..they might lose niemi...tons of ways it could go

Gar (Naperville)

Jesse - I think Kane had the puck on his stick for almost half of the time he was on the ice last night. DOes the NHL or Bhawks keep possession time stats?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:00 PM)

Use to and coaches might have some internal stuff. Ive asked but couldnt get anyone that has legit puck posession type stuff. too bad, cause i'd love to know as well

Dan (St. Charles)

We realistically can't expect Huet to play 20 game straight if we make a run at the cup. How many games do you see Niemi playing in April and beyond? Like a 1-1, 2-1, 3-1 ratio?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:02 PM)

Not Q's style. Thats anbother reason you keep them both fresh in march cause if he goes with one..it will be the same guy...there are exceptions but Q has never indicated anything but he wants one guy...in reality it becomes a mess if u try to use 2...start snd guessing yourslef etc. for example..what if goalie B is suppose to start next game but goalie A pitched a shutout first and looks great then what. sit a hot hand?? too confusing..he'll go with one unless/until he falters and then the other guy the rest of the way..as det. did 2 years ago with hasek and osgood

Ray (Chicago)

Jesse,Just tell the powers that be to trade Barker and Versteeg for Niedermeyer and lets win the Cup already..Enough with these people and the Goalie dramaMoney works and helps next year, those 2 are expendable and Niedermeyer would be a great presence in all areasThen you line up like this:Kane-Toews-BrouwerHossa-Bolland-SharpLadd-Madden-BufygylienKopecky-Burish-Eager (Or Fraser)Seabrook-KeithNeidermeyer-CampbellHjalmersson-SopelAt that point they could put the Goalie pads on you and we are at least in the Western Conference Finals!

Jesse Rogers
  (3:04 PM)

Yes, Yes,Yes. Agreed. throw in a 1st and any prospect they want. im with you 100%. prob might be the money those guys make. they may not to take on so much. but make them an offer they cant refuse. i like it

Hack (chicago)

If you were to prioritize the resigning of our free agents (Hammer, Ladd, Madden, Eager, Burish, Fraser, Niemi), what order would you put them in?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:05 PM)

Hmm.tough one...forgetting money...prob hammer, niemi, madden, burish...all depends on rest of your team of course..but basic premise and the fatc tha huey is signed for 2 more..now if theres no hey than maybe niemi moves up a notch

Joe (Chicago)

Cam Barker seems like a ball of talent that is held back by a lack of emotion. Do you think some energy would benefit his game?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:07 PM)

I wouldnt give up on him..the timing might not be right for him here or now..hes caught in learning a tough position and the hawks trying to win..emotion would be nice...aggressive play...confident play..hes shown a nasty side..need more of it...

Jimmy (Naperville)

With Burish coming back in early March, do the Hawks plan to slot him right back to his 4th line position or is he going to have to earn his PT. He doesn't bring a whole lot offensively, but his energy can't be matched and I wouldn't mind seeing Q sit Buff or Steeger if they're even around after the break.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:09 PM)

He goesright back in..I think Q secretly or not wants that energy he brings...eager or kopecky sit or even fraser...bur can play center

Michael (Chicago)

Lets say hypothetically the Blackhawks trade for Niedermayer who would he play on defense with?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:09 PM)

Im guessing Hammer

mike (madison)

I really think the way its going we are going to have face the Red Wings in the first round. I rather get the second seed to avoid that you agree ?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:11 PM)

Pretty much, I do. Nashville would go 6 or maybe less but would be a grind...L.A. scares me a little but goaltending edge there...would like calgary..if possible

Eric (Chicago)

Ok Jesse, so this isn't a rumor but I'll see if you squash this one...the Stars traded for Kari Lehtonen last night or this morning and now have 3 goalies and their own 2 are headed towards free agency after the season...with Dallas just about 2 or 3 pts out of the final playoff spot, do they trade Turco possibly and possibly to the Hawks or is that not a possibility?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:11 PM)

Of course its a possibility but i dont see it happening. Turco is gone for sure...just ot chitown

Imre (Missoula, MT)

So does the Stache start Niemi for his 3rd consecutive or what? Might be nice to see if he can sustain this before the Olympic break and trade deadlines...thought?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:12 PM)

Im going to say yes and win or lose, huet starts sunday..either way, they will split the weekend

Danny (Northbrook)

after the trade deadline, are you nervous that you will no more questions to answer on these chats?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:13 PM)

Funny. Maybe. Or else it will all be playoff matchups..which will be fun...

DANNY L. (NORTH SIDE)

It seems like coach Q is giving the team days off after games a lot more latley. i know they had a long road trip and he wants some guys to be fresh before the break but do you think he is resting his guys too much? the team hasnt looked quite the same since mid january and im thinking its because they get too much days off.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:14 PM)

Nah..rest is needed...the 8 game trip took them off their game a little but thats expected...for them not to look the same and still win their amount of games i think says it all..lets get to march already and go from there...little bit of the dog days here before the break

Jason (Denver)

Hey Jesse, love the blogs and chats, it keeps me up with all the Blackhawks new this far away. My question is can the Blackhawks do nothing at the trade deadline and still make a cup run that the fans all want to see? Do they really need another big name player? I mean they have 83 points.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:16 PM)

They can..but a trade for nieds makes them a formidable fav. 2 months of playoff hockey theres bound to be a block shot that knocks a d-man out..i think you need that depth..look, san jose is number 1 and they went out and got a guy so why not the hawks??

Hack (chicago)

Jess, The powerplay is a disaster again (it hasn't produced a point in 2 weeks!). 2 questions 1) Have you ever gotten a straight answer as to why Buff is still on the point? 2) Is Torchetti taking any heat from the organization when the powerplay goes through these brutal stretches?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:18 PM)

Cant answer the 2nd one..if a coach is "taking" heat its behind closed doors and kept quiet. but you know, they all work together. its more about frustration then one guy taking heat. buff has a great shot..thats your answer. and what i said earlier abot him in front of the net is true. he was there to start the season and sisnt do much...maybe they change it again but thats why

Michael (Chicago)

Who has been the most important Blackhawk this season?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:19 PM)

if thats the same as MVP..to me its kane...i guess most important could be keith...make sense?

caleb (peoria)

who do you think the hawks would want to see the most in the playoffs? seems they dont want to see anyone from the pacific...plus i think our goalies will be fine in the playoffs with the style we play.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:21 PM)

Dont know who they think but like I said earlier Calgary is turning into a good matchup in my opionion...young team like colorado could scare you but at end of the day are they going to win 4 of 7..nash and phoenix make it tougher and longer and L.A. could pull an upset if goaltending it good. make no mistake, the hawks are no lock for ANYTHING

Adam (Chicago)

What do you think is most responsible for the recent rash of sloppy play? Are the frequent turnovers a result of fatigue? Overconfidence? Too much desire to be fancy and make the highlights (Versteeg)?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:22 PM)

Probably the last one there...on D, maybe not the fancy play but the play that gets the puck up for offense..instead of the simple and safe play...

Zo (Southside)

Tim Thomas is outta the Question......Right? Please tell me i'm right.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:24 PM)

Yes. I ran into a hawk personell guy and he was laughing at all that is out there about the hawks. they are very tight lipped about things. maybe the most tight lipped in the league..so any info comes form the other side and half of that is wrong so we're down to maybe a quarter that has SOME validity..for what its worth

Mike (Chicago)

Any chance the Hawks go for Neidemayer/Mezaros/Wiz and a top 6 foward? Or is it one or the other? I'd like to see Sopel, Barker, and Versteeg dealt even though there are rumblings of Sharp being on the block

Jesse Rogers
  (3:26 PM)

There are no ramblings of anyone being on the block..anyone signed past this season is potentillay available..depends on what the other teams wants...if you think stan is calling teams and saying "this guy can be had" not happening that way...yes, on those D men though may have been easier for a couple a few weeks ago..

John (Chicago)

Last week in your chat I said that I though Sopel is the worst player on the ice when he's out there. I eat my words after that penalty kill last night and that blocked slap shot the other night. If the hawks dont make any moves, could you ever see Hendry playing over Barker in a playoff series, especially against a faster team?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:27 PM)

Maybe...if it hasnt happened yet though, it better in march...you dont throw a guy to the wolves without prepping him..hard to say..

Matt (Tucson)

Hows the view from last row in 300 section? I got tickets for that row...can you see everything?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:28 PM)

I think its fine. Yes, you can see everything.

Jonathan (chicago)

Do you pick up a sense of eagnerness from the players as to be the best in the league? Is there chatter about how the caps are on a roll or how far the sharks are ahead? I feel like there should be as with such a young group of guys stuff like that would propel the team to want to win and win big. Your thoughts?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:29 PM)

Sure, they're on top of all that but it doesnt consume them. Too much to worry about in their game. I talked to Kane the other day about the Caps. Said hed be surprised if they werent in the Finals. They know where the sharks are but they also know theyve played them well this year..

Matt (Tucson)

Let put an end to the tim thomas rumor before you blow your brains out on that question being asked over and over and over...Goalie not needed at all...nieds in my opinion will be in a hawks uni after the freeze ends...barker, prospect, and a pick will go for him...Anaheim won't refuse that agree? I just don;t think we need to get rid of a forward to get him...

Jesse Rogers
  (3:30 PM)

All depends if there is a bidding war for him...until now i know for a fact that murray has decided not trade him but hes a deadline guy if he goes...every team will re-evaluate their position during break...easy time to do it..

Matt (Tucson)

Is next year we get to see the debut of Beach and Aliu? already sen skille...what about klinkhammer?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:31 PM)

Good chance on several of those guys..for sure beach as we sit here today...skille might be gone

Shan (Chicago)

Hawks vs Caps in the finals. Is that possible

Jesse Rogers
  (3:32 PM)

Definitely..still think Sid the Kid will be heard from..if you dont like the hawks goalies, try wash. i dont care what theyve done..come may, theodore will spring a leak

big m (st. louis)

do u think that the hawks have what it takes to win it all with the goalies they have and the defenders in front of him, if they ran into the penguins, caps, or canucks.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:32 PM)

Maybe..hows that? id feel a whole lot better with Nieds...

Jack (Deerfield)

What is the feeling in the locker room after a shootout loss? As a fan, it is kind of whatever to me. I mean you are talking breakaways for an extra point, but then again, those points do add up.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:34 PM)

Im with you but they are dissspointed maybe as much for what they could have done during reg play to win..but i know one thing, the guys that miss in a shootout, win or lose, arent thrilled. i told kane the other day he needs to start from scratch..i think hes still rolling his eyes at me.

Joe (Schaumburg)

Jesse, I was mad when New Jersey got Kovalchuk. I thought that we had the pieces to make that deal. We could of paired Kovalchuck with Hossa. Two of the premiere goal scorer.s in the laegue. We would have 4 superstar forwards on the Same team in Hossa, Kane, Toews and Kovalchuk. That would guarantee that w e have the best offense in the NHL. I feel we could of traded Versteeg, Barker, Skille and 1st round draft pick since i assume that it would be low. We could plug Kovalchuck in Versteeg's spot, and put Jordan Hendry in Barkers spot. It think Hendry would make a great 6th defensmen on this team. Then my actual question is, do you see Kovalchuck in the offseason taking a paycut to play with Hossa, Kane, and toews Toews. That would almost guarantee that he would be playing on a great team for a long time. Thanks Jesse, what are your thoughts?

Jesse Rogers

No on the paycut. No way. In theory I do agree it should have been somethig they explored but they didnt..maybe too much of a shake up, maybe cause he doesnt play the other end..dont know..hes not coming here

John (Chicago)

Coolest "sweaters" in the NHL? Besides the hawks obviously. Maple Leafs? Wings? Vancouver has to be the worst, right?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:35 PM)

Im still a kings guy kind of.

Zo (Southside)

When the hawks play the caps in March is that a good "measuring stick" to see how we match up with the elite of the East?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:36 PM)

Sure, but dont put too much stock into it. just a little. its one game

Neil (Fresno, CA)

Any chance on the Hawks placing Huet in the minors next year so his salary is not counted against the cap?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:37 PM)

Only if rocky likes to pay a guy 5.6 mil to play minor league hockey than yes. anything is possible i suppose

Mark (Schaumburg)

I will admit, I used to have a strong dislike for Brent Sopel. After last night's game, and pretty much the entire season in general, however, I have grown to admire his willingness to sacrifice his body to block a shot. Did his 2 minute penalty kill impress you Jesse?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:38 PM)

Sure it did..if he could be a pk specialist, be great. 5 on 5 some issues but the guy is a warrior

Eli (Chicago)

jesse -- the condition of the ice at the UC has been disgraceful. how is this allowable? a team built on speed and skill deserves a lot better in their own building...

Jesse Rogers
  (3:39 PM)

I havent heard great things thru the years about the UC ice..in fact one player told me it was the worst in the league..maybe ill look into it some more..not sure if its slowing them down or not..pretty good home record

Michael (Chicago)

There was an interesting stat that the broadcast crew brought up last night that the Blackhawks have been something like 30-10-5 since Toews came back from injury. Thats insane!!!! What does he bring to the Hawks that isn't on the stat sheet?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:40 PM)

How about everything...love how strong hes gotten on the puck behind the net..creates so much off of that...only getting better...that would be one thing not on the sheet

John (Chicago)

Hey Jesse, if you were looking up into the rafters of the United Center in the future, do you see any current Hawks with their numbers up there? Who do you think has the best potential to join the elite?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:41 PM)

Toews and Kane...obvious answer but the right one cause of their age and ability...i guess keith too if he keeps it up

SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)

Jus to take a step away from the Hawks for a minute. I was lucky enough to grow up with The Great One and now get to see a 2nd Great one in Ove. The guy is just video game good. Could you see him as a better player by the end of his career than Wayne? Even without all the titles? I just wante to touch on that because I'm just amazed at how good Ove is every time I see him play.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:43 PM)

Wayne was in a whole other world...would be tough to top.Ovy has this quality: hes talented and he wants it as much as anyone in the league so he'll put up some huge numbers for sure

Scott Niedermeyer (Anaheim)

I would love to come to Chicago and play for the Hawks. I need you to go to the Bowman's and show them this and get me to Chicago. We are not going to make the playoffs and I want another cup before I retire. Help me out Jesse.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:44 PM)

I will forward to them
