Hi everyone, let's get rolling.
What do you think the chargers can get for Cromartie?
Maybe a mid-rounder. It won't be a whole lot.
Will Norv Turner ever make the Super Bowl as a head coach?
The Chargers sure hope so. The next few years represent his best shot.
Hey Bill, quick question I would like to attend the NFL Combine in Indy is it open to the public? If so is admittance free? Thanks
No, it's not open. But some fans mill around the stadium and hotels.
Which College Football player that is on the 2010 NFL Draft board do you think would be a perfect fit for the Oakland Raiders?
Okung, the LT from Oklahoma State
Hey BIll!Who is most likely to be caring the football for the san diego football chargers in 2010? I like tobey gerhardt in the draft or lagerett blunt, but i also think tashard choice would be a great pick up! Whats your take?
I think they could look at Toby G. in the draft. Dallas doesn't want to deal Choice.
Hey what do you make of the rumor about possibly having Marc Bulger ending up in Denver?
Hi Denton, I'm answering that question in my weekend mailbag Saturday.
Hey Bill. Last year there was a rumor the Raiders and Chargers were talking about a Michael Bush trade. Although it seems crazy that the Chargers and Raiders would trade with each other, wouldn't a Bush for Antonio Cromartie trade make sense for both teams?
That was in 2008. Sure, but it would surprise if those two teams did business.
Any news on the Broncos and their negotiations with FA's Marshall, Scheffler and Dumervil?
No, it's been pretty slow around the league. It should pick up next week.
I hardly understand most things the Raiders do, but forfeiting a 1st round draft pick for Richard Seymour, who now has to be franchised or signed long term to make it worth it. And he turns 31 next October. Seriously, what sense did that make? How did that move help the franchise?
It really didn't help. Seymour was brought in to help the run defense and he didn't make a big difference and Oakland ended up winning five games. He is still a good palyer but Oakland is now married to him because of what it gave up.
Do you think cason is ready to take over for cromartie?
I've always liked him. I think he's up to it.
It seems like the Chargers live and die by the draft, but can they really win the super bowl with a core of young guys? shouldn't they sign some veterans who have been there before?
I like the way San Diego's roster looks. It's pretty balanced age-wise.
Bigger need for the Broncos, NT or WR?
Probably NT. But when Marshall goes, that may switch.
what free agents do you think Denver goes after? Will McDaniels ravage New England again? Players like Ben Watson, Kevin Faulk, Jarvis Green, and Stephen Neal?
Hey Bill, what do you think will come of the Linebacker situation in Oakland?
I think Howard satys and Morrison goes.
marshall out in denver? him and mcdaniels can't see eye to eye...possibilities of where he might go?
I'm liking Seattle.
Bill, what do you think is the better option for the Chiefs in the draft if Eric Berry is still available at 5 - take the defensive playmaker in Berry or take an OT which potentially improves two positions on the offensive line by sliding Albert to guard or right tackle?
Tough call, but I think berry will a star.
Does Denver have interest in Dansby?
I bet it does. Denver is pretyy aggressive these days.
Is Jamarcus going to be cut if he doesnt win the starting job?
Probably next year if that is the case.
What is the area of greater concern for Da Raiders, when its comes to stopping the run. Our front four or our LB?
I think it's ll connected and the entire front seven needs some improving.
If the chiefs hired Charlie Weis last year, do they end up with Brady Quinn instead of Matt Cassel?
Don't see that one happening.
Is rumors involve Marshall to Browns for Brady Quinn a possibility?
That would be a bad deal for Denver.
Can the Raiders be a solid team with Pennington or Vick at the slate instead of Russell?
What about Gradkowski?
Cassell to Denver if KC drafts Clausen?
Mel Kiper brought that up. It's a wild idea. I would think Denver would be interested. The Jay Cutler saga (which Cassel was the smoking gun) taught me to consider all possiblities. But, I think it's highly unlikely.
If either Bradford or Clausen are available to the Broncos in the first round, should the Broncos consider drafting their future quarterback?
I don't think Denver will look to do that this year.
moer important: CB, or DL?
Can the raiders win with al davis?
They have before.
If Tomlinson ends up waiting by the phone for a starting position like Shaun Alexander, would he be willing to accept a back up role and lower pay back in San Diego or has he burned those bridges?
Joe, I just think the LT era is over. Sad, but true.
Love the blog. What are the odds of the following players being with the Broncos next year? MarshallHillisOrtonScheffler
Marshall: 10 percentHills: 40 percentOrton: 80 percentScheffler: 25 percent
I am disgusted with Russell's lack of work ethic. Will the Raiders give him another shot? He is not a textbook QB.
It looks like he is going to get one more shot. But this will likely be it.
Why is Janikowski making so much money? I know he's all they got up there, but still, that seems like they severely overpaid for him.
To keep him, Oakland had to overpay. That's their MO. But he is a good player.
Bill, Pat Bowlen basically announced the Broncos should draft a Quarterback in this years draft, that being said, do you see the Broncos making a move to draft Jimmy Clausen?
I think they could wait until the second or third round. McDaniels knows QBs. He could probably identify a bargain-type player.
Bill, in your opinion, what should the Broncos do at QB? Keep Orton? Go after McNabb? Draft a QB? Get Doc Brown's DeLorean and go get 1987 John Elway?
For this year, I say just stick with Orton unless your last option could be worked out. 1997 John Elway wouldn't be bad, either.
Bill, if you are liking Denver trading Marshall to Seattle, what would you include in the deal??
Culd be Deion Branch and soem draft picks.
If the Broncos finish with the same or worse record, will McDaniels be looking for a new address or will he be given more time to establish his way of doing things?
I think all coaches should get three years.
whos gonna be better, clausen, tebow, snead, mccoy
Clausen and McCoy.
How close to the playoffs are the Raiders if they had a decent QB?
They have to fix that defense too and the OL and the receivers need to do a better job catching the ball. It's just not the QB in Oakland. The Riaders need some fixing all around.
McDaniels pretty much overhauled the defense last year. Is this the year he does the same with the offense? Can we get a new punter, too? Please?
I think you will see a lto of change everywhere in Denver (including punter)as McDaniels continues to build his program.
Do you think the Raider's players are excited to have Cable back? As a fan, I am.
The players have been behind Cable. They like him.
Bill, I got a doosey for ya. Let's say the Chargers pick up a 3rd round pick for Cromartie sometime before the 2010 Draft. Everyone keeps talking about how they're sure to pick up a Jonathan Dwyer or a Ryan Matthews type back. But what do you say to using the 1st round pick on Jahvid Best, saving the NT pick for the 2nd round, and using that extra 3rd round pick on Toby Gerhart? With just one draft, you would have taken care of your thunder and lightning in one fell swoop. Cross bay rivals reunited on the same pro squad. Sounds like a draft day blockbuster to me
That would be a lot of fun.
You really think Gradkowski is the answer?
Not long-term, but for this year, maybe. The guy really gives that team a spark.
what are the chances the Raiders trade down in the draft and stock pile on draft picks to fill more needs and not have to spend an overload boat of cash to one guy?
I like that approach. Teams can get better in a hurry doing it that way.
How will Matt Cassel mesh with Charlie Weis?
I bet they work well together. They nevr worked together in New England but Cassel was brought up on Weis' ways. I think it's a natural fit.
I really really really don't want to see my Chargers draft RB in the 1st round. What position do you think they should address in round 1?
It will probably be a RB or a NT. Those are the team's biggest needs.
So would you consider it a strong offseason for denver if they keep marshall, doom and then sign Watson, Faulk, Green and Neal?
Pretty good as long as Marshall is on board. What about QB?
Hey Bill! I want to know if you agree with my assessment of Raiders draft needs. In order, I believe the Raiders greatest needs are: Owner, Front Office, Head Coach, QB. Ha. Ha! What say you?
Not sure if they could pull it off.
Is VJ ready to be an elite receiver? Does he have a good relationship with Rivers? Are they buddies?
I think Jackson is elite now. Love the guy. From what I know, Jackson and Rivers have a good relationship.
Is Larry English going to be ready to help the Chargers' miserable pass rush next season?
I thought we'd see a little more from him. But the San Diego coaches are happy with him and he did come from a small school, so there is a learning curve in play. I think we'll see improvmement in the next couple of seasons.
When you say the Raiders have won with Al Davis before, I would say that the Broncos have won with Elway before, too. That doesn't mean they would now...
Fine point, sir.
Hey Bill, lovin the blog by the way, The chargers have major signings coming up soon, who do you think is the most important players to sign in order...mine is Jackson-Mcneil-Sproles-Merriman
Thanks ... Your roder looks about right. But they are all important.
clausen or mccoy?
Bill, speaking of LT, why do you think some RBs can run into their early or mid 30s, and some just have great years (Alexander, LT, Edge) up until 30 and then just fall off the map?
Few running backs have great success after 30. It's a tough job. The wear-and-tear really catches up to guys.
Everyone always says that it is inevitable that LT is not a Charger next season, but nobody seems to have a good reason for saying this. Is it about money? You wrote that Tomlinson is not open to restructuring his contract for a second time, but if the Chargers cut him, won't he take a big pay decrease anyway by signing with another team as a back-up? It seems like Sproles is way more expensive for the Chargers, with the $6M+ franchise price tag he carried last season, for a guy who only scored 8 TDs. Thoughts?
LT has said it himself. The Chargers want more production. I know this is emotional for San Dieog fans and it should be, but the end has come.
How do the Chargers go about replacing Jamal Williams? I think that is their most pressing concern going forward.
It will likley be addressed early in the draft. Thyey definitely need help there.
Are there any teams very interested in signing Seymour?
They will be some, but I totally expect Seymour to stay in Oakland. It will not let him get away.
True or False: The Chargers will win an AFC title in the Turner/Rivers/Gates/Merriman era.
Yes, I can see it.
What do you think of Vaughn Martin after 1 season in SD?
He's a work in progress. He has potential.
Hey bill, if denver does keep marsh around... what are the chances the take McClain at 10/11 it think he could be something special.
I think that could be a real possibility. He's a heck of a player. I think Oakland could look at him as well.
Hey Bill, Denver has a lot of needs. Do you think they could coax a 1st (14th overall) and 3rd from Seattle for Marshall; is a 3rd round pick too much to expect in return for Scheffler; finally, Dumervill would be a big want by a number of teams, should Denver try to get a 1st or a couple of 2nds for him. These would go a long way towards filling some holes
I think Denver would be thrilled to get No. 14 back from Seattle. If it was offered, I bet Marshall would go to Seattle straight up for that pick.
Great hour folks, thanks. Enjoy the weekend.
