Greetings from the Berto Center, everybody! Let's get right into this week's chat ...
What's your take on Hakim Warrick? To me he provides the Bulls with the Exact same skills as Tyrus had only none of the headaches.
Jeff, I love Warrick. (First and foremost because he went to Syracuse) But, like you said, he gives the Bulls exactly what they were always seeking from Tyrus: A long, athletic player who can get a double double almost every night. He's also a solid guy who has quickly fit in with the rest of his new teammates.
Do you believe in the rumors about bron-bron is thinking about coming to chicago?
Hi Nick, do you think Noah will ever get back to playing big minutes this year?
No, I don't. His foot is absolutely killing him and if I were the Bulls I would seriously consider shutting him down for a while. The problem is that he means so much to the team (and Noah is so competitive) that it probably won't happen. No matter what happens, it's clear that Noah will not be the same player he was earlier in the season. He will need an entire off-season of rest to fully recover.
Hey Nick, how much of a factor does the Bulls making the playoffs this year affect how free agents perceive them? Will it make a big difference?
I don't think that will make much of a difference at all. It certainly won't hurt if the Bulls make some noise in the playoffs, but it won't be the determining factor as to whether or not a player comes here or not.
Hello Nick, which big free agent is most likely to end up with the Bulls?
I think we should just cut and paste this question every week. I've been saying it for four months now -- I think Joe Johnson is probably the guy who ends up here. I also think there is a shot that Chris Bosh lands here as well. But, if I had to guess which guy comes here this summer I'd go with Johnson.
Derrick Rose seems to get underrated by writers on here quite a bit. Had Rose not been hampered by that early injury he would probably be at 23
Jocelyn,I don't think Rose is being overlooked at all. People all over the league know how good he is and they know he's only going to get better. You can bet that you will all kinds of Rose stories from now until the day he retires.
Who would be the best matchup for the Bulls in the first round of the playoffs? I'm inclined to want to play Boston again, they seem to be aging quickly.
Tyler, I agree with you. I think Boston would be the best matchup for the Bulls. Mentally, they know they can compete with the Celtics after what they did last year in the playoffs. Like you said, Boston isn't getting any younger, either. The Bulls would definitely try to run them up and down the floor.
What has happened to Luol Deng? Is it that he is finally over his nagging injuries, or does he have a new mind set about being aggresive and going to the hoop?
Cliff, Deng has definitely been more aggressive recently. He's been getting to the line a lot more and looks more confident going to the rim. Having said that, he looked pretty sore after last night's contest so I don't think he is over all of his nagging injuries just yet.
Do you see an improvement in play over last year and how would you rate Del Negro's progress in this aspect?
Nick, From last year to this year, I'm not sure how much of a major improvement there has been. I do know that the Bulls have improved a lot from the beginning of this season to now. They are playing with a lot more confidence and they are coming into every game expecting to win. I think VDN is improving as a coach. Does he still make some strange decisions? Absolutely. But, those are the growing pains that you have to deal with when you have a young coach.
Will Del Negro be back as Head Coach next year, he has done a tremendous job with all the injuries, trades, etc. he has had to endure, he will lead this team to the playoffs!
That leads me into this question ... Like I've been saying, the Bulls have had plenty of opportunities to come out and say, "Vinny's our guy for the future." They haven't done that -- leading to speculation regarding that he will be gone after the year. The guess here is that if the Bulls don't make it into the second round of the playoffs, or have another Boston-esque series like last year, the team will decide to go in another direction.
What do you think Derrick Rose's ceiling is? Do you see him becoming one of the top 5 players in the league one day?
Ryan,If D-Rose develops a consistent outside shot and continues to improve defensively, there's little doubt that he will become one of the top five players in this league at some point in his career.
Simple Question: Wade to Chicago? Yes or No? I believe we have a better Team in place then the one he has in Miami.
Simple answer: No.
What are the chances of the bulls dealing kirk before the start of next season? i love him and the way he plays i'd love to see them keep him
The Bulls don't want to deal Hinrich. But, if by getting rid of his contract it means that they will land another top-tier free agent somehow, he will be headed elsewhere.
Whats the deal with Joe Alexander? He was taken 8th overall in the 2008 draft, can we expect anything from him, or was he a complete bust?
Alexander is still young so there is always a chance that he will turn his game around, but I don't think he will contribute anything to the Bulls this season. The team's rotation already seems set.
I am having this whole big debate with one of my friends on ESPN regarding Rose and Westbrook who would you want to pick? Who is better and why?
Rose. I think he has a more complete game and is able to do more things on the floor. He has the ability to absolutely take over games whenever he wants -- Westbrook still can't do that all the time right now.
Do you think the Bulls will re-up Hakim Warrick, he seems like he can be a solid player for us?
I think the Bulls will seriously consider bringing Warrick back. He can give them 20-25 solid minutes a night and probably won't cost them a lot of money.
Do you think there is any chance we could see d rose in the dunk contest next year? because it really needs revived and i think he could bring down the house
I actually asked him about that a few weeks ago. He started laughing. He said he wasn't creative enough to be in the dunk contest. I still think he should think about it ...
What are your reasons on why u think no wade in Chi?
You need to start reading the weekly mailbag because I already answered this question ... here is the abridged version:1. He absolutely runs the Heat. He can say and do whatever he wants. 2. The Heat can give him more money3. No state income tax in Florida4. The Heat are probably going to sign a max player to play alongside him. 5. Winters in Miami are significantly better than winters in Chicago This list goes on ...
is rose happy with his current situation with the Bulls? any desire for him to go elsewhere?
I think Rose is very happy here. He loves the city and he loves being able to play in front of his family. I'd be surprised if he ever left the Bulls.
Does seeing Tyrus' instant resurgence in Charlotte make you question Vinnie Del Negro's ability as a coach?
No. There's no question that VDN and Tyrus didn't get along. But I think it's more of a knock against Tyrus that he has suddenly started playing well than it is against Del Negro. There were games in Chicago where Thomas disappeared and didn't appear to be playing as hard as he could be. Whether he liked the coach or not, as a pro you should always play hard. Tyrus couldn't always say that.
Tyreke Evans, Derrick Rose, John Wall....rank em Nick!
Coach Cal, is that you? 1. Rose2. Evans3. Wall Wall may end up being the best over time, but as of right now, and for the next couple years, here is how I would rank them.
Would you say the Bulls have a decent chance to bring in Bosh and Joe J (JJ in a sign and trade)? Or, even JJ and then Boozer as the the sign and trade?
I wouldn't use the word decent. The chances of the Bulls being able to land two max free agents are slim. The Bulls will be happy if they land just one of the big names.
Wall over Rose over time?? does Derrick know you go around with such blasphemy?
Ha. I said it was possible -- not a certainty. Wall still has to jump over Evans first. Go to practice, Coach Cal ...
Could D. Rose, Captain Kirk, Lu, Bosh, and Joakim as a starting 5 stand a shot at a title next season?
No. A very good team, no doubt. But I don't think they would win a title with that five alone. If the Bulls add a few more complimentary pieces after next year, absolutely.
These chats are rigged, how does one guy get to chat 5 times with you and I get none??
There you go, Blaine. You're famous.
If we traded kirk this summer would it be possible to sign lee and johnson. With three all stars, one of the top 5 rebounders in the league and a great mid range guy in deng thats gotta put us over the top right?
Possbile, yes. Likely, no. That team would be good, but I still don't think they would be able to knock off the Lakers. Let alone battle against the Magic and Cavs.
Do you honestly think the claims that LBJ or Wade would be reluctant to play in Chicago because of Jordan's shadow? Or, do Bulls fans just use it as an excuse to not feel rejected?
LeBron and D Wade don't strike me as the types of guys who are afraid to play anywhere. Stop worrying about them, though. They ARE NOT coming to Chicago, anyway.
All right everybody, I'm out of here. Great questions, as usual. I will talk to you guys next week. Don't forget to check out the mailbag in the meantime.
