Okay, tell me how UCONN is still in again?
As a diehard Mizzou fan it seems to me they made a horrid choice in hiring Mike Anderson to a longtime contract? He runs zero plays and the team just shoots ill advised shots all the time and he does nothing about it. Is there any hope for the future or will we always be a middle of the pack team.
Win three games.
I disagree with you. I think Mike Anderson has done a solid job. His style is difficult to play against and prepare when it's on. It's not always on but when it is it is tough to play against.
Hey Andy, If Temple wins the A10 tourny are they looking at a 3seed? Where would they most likely be headed?
That's probably a bit too high.
Gut feeling: Seton Hall beats Providence and Notre Dame in the BET, then loses to Pitt. Will they make it?
No. Gut answer.
Good Morning Andy,First time, long time. Anyway, I keep hearing this year about how there is no dominant team. However, despite hearing this over and over again, like a drum against my memory, I still don't quite know what it means. Sure UNC was a powerhouse last year and the year before that, but that didn't mean they were unbeatable - neither squad was unbeaten. This year we have great teams in KU, SU, and UK who have lost less than last year's UNC squad. Will it take one of them winning the title to get this (albeit) they're-good-but-not-great moniker off their back?
I'm not buying it. Those teams have been dominant in one form or another in winning a ton of games. Remember, UNC lost its first two games in the ACC and nearly got beat by LSU. It's not like the Tar Heels were always dominant last season. That is a bit of a myth and revisionist history.
Assume for a moment that WVU wins the Big East tourney... If that were to happen, then what else would the Mountaineers need to happen in order to move up to a #1 seed in the Big Dance?
it's an interesting scenario. But the problem is that save the Villanova win it's not like WVA finished without any hiccups, losing to Pitt and Connecticut. I know the Mountaineers beat Ohio State but they did lose to Purdue. WVA is also the No. 3 seed in the Big East. I don't see it.
Cornell is currently projected to be an 11-seed in ESPN's bracketology, but the Big Red won't play again before Selection Sunday this weekend. Will the lack of a conference tournament in the Ivy League hurt Cornell's seeding and result in the Big Red falling to a 12-seed come Sunday?
I doubt it.I think the Big Red should be fine as a possible 10. And I would tell you that no No. 2 will want to face them.
Hi Andy. Is there any way Villanova can realistically turn this ship around and make a deep run? Jay is usually adept at making adjustments, but we haven't seen them yet.
Yes. I don't see why the 'Cats can't go on a mini run and reach the Elite Eight.
Saints are in... where do they sit on the bracket now?
Siena probably is looking at a double digit seed, but still dangerous.
Andy, I think people are not showing South Florida enough respect. They played half the season without their 2nd most important player, Gilchrist, beat UCONN, Georgetown, and Pitt. Not to mention they beat Seton Hall who apparently has a better shot than USF. What gives?
USF has a shot but the Bulls have to win three games. It's that simple.
How deep do you see the MWC teams that are a lock going in the big dance?
UNM and BYU have Sweet 16 ability. I think one may get there.
Steve Alford is definitely going to get the Mountain West Coach of the Year, what about NCAA Coach of the Year?Bonus Round: What are UNM's chances of holding on to him if he gets NCAA Coach of the Year?
Jim Boeheim of Syracuse is probably going to get the award with all that he lost last season. But Alford should be in the top five. UNM should be able to hold onto him.
Andy, I am a University of San Diego fan. Two years ago we were beating UCONN in the NCAA Tournament, now we are a 20 loss team. What is next for my Toreros? Coach Bill Grier has to be on the hot seat in 2010-2011 right?
Grier has had a lot of injuries to deal with so I wouldn't give up on him yet.
With Vasquez Scheyer and Delaney all making first team all ACC. Why does everyone talk about Vasquez and Scheyer, and no one outside of Blacksburg knows who Malcolm is. He has to be one of the best guards in the nation no one talks about. Also, the other 2 are seniors... hes a junior...
Part of that is attention Va Tech fails to receive. Delaney has had an outstanding year but the Hokies weren't in the final chase for the ACC title and that probably hurt.
5 or so years from now, game 7 of the NBA finals. With seconds left on the clock, you have one play to win the championship. Who is running your offense, Wall or Turner?
Well, unfortunately neither since they'll probably get picked by a team that isn't going to be Finals-level in five years.
Andy, do you own the @ESPNAndyKatz Twitter account? If so, you should get Twitter to give your page the "Verified Account" badge so fans know they're hearing from the real Andy Katz.
Yes. That's me. I'll have to get on that. Thanks
What will have to happen for Ohio State to get the final one seed?
Win the Big Ten tournament and Duke get upset. OSU could still get the final No. 1 but that would help.
So Andy, if WVU was to win the Big East tourney, Duke win the ACC tourney and Ohio State the Big Ten tourney you still would not put WVU ahead of either school for the last #1 seed? Remember, WVU beat OSU with Evan Turner and the Big East tourney would be a tougher row to hoe Andy. What say you?
I agree that's a factor, but I'm not sure the committee would put a third-place team from a major conference as a top seed unless there were no other choices (like last year with three from the Big East).
Hi Andy,How will the potential NBA 2011 lockout impact college basketball? I am thinking that the "one-and-dones" in the incoming 2010 freshman class will not be able to jump to the NBA during a lockout. As a result, the 2011/12 college basketball season will be loaded with talent with two "one-and-done" classes plus all of the developing underclassmen that were not able to jump into the 2011 NBA draft. I think the group with the most to lose are the 2011 and 2012 seniors in this scenarios.Does this make sense to you?best regards,Advin
Yes it could occur but it also could send a number of players out this spring in the fear that they won't get paid in 2011. So we'll see how this all plays out but that's a possibility. Thanks for the question from the UK. Best to everyone.Have fun watching the games. We'll chat again next week. ThanksAndy
