Hey fans, we're here with Villanova's Brian Karalunas and Kevin Cunningham, talking Wildcat lacrosse before their game against Big East foe Notre Dame on Saturday. Shoot us your questions and they'll answer as many as they can!

Mike (Radnor)

Kevin, how are you guys going to be able to beat Scotty Rodgers on Saturday?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:03 PM)

Hey Mike, Scotty Rodgers is the best goalie in the country. He is going to be a tough one to beat but I feel if we take high percentage shots we will be ok.

Casey (Long Island)

How will Villanova respond in their game against Notre Dame coming off a 20-6 loss against Syracuse? Do you see Villanova making the playoffs? Who do you think will win the 2010 championship?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:03 PM)

The fortunate thing about a loss like that midseason is that you don't have much time to think about it. Hopefully we come out strong vs ND. A quality win vs them would go a long way to forgetting our last game.

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:04 PM)

Yea we had a tough one against Cuse but we did not play well. But it's over now... We have to move on and have a tough week of practice to get ready for ND

Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)

Does Jacksonville have any chance against Duke on Sunday? How will a Florida school playing men's lacrosse impact the sport?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:06 PM)

Jacksonsville's Coach Kerwick is one of the great minds in the game (and a great guy too) so I think any time one of his teams takes the field they have a chance to win. It is great to see lacrosse expanding all over the country and a team in FLA will only help. Hard for kids to resist the thought of playing lax then going to the beach from some bronzing afterwards.

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:06 PM)

Jacksonville is a great story this year making huge progress, i think every team has a chance against anyone but Jacksonville is going to have to play a great game but i think they can do it. I think that a team in Florida playing lacrosse will expand the sport of lacrosse.

Mike (Radnor)

You guys were having a great season but you just had a tough one against Cuse - how do you guys get off the canvas?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:08 PM)

We've had a hard few days of practice and I think we'll be ready for ND. We've worked on a few things we have struggled with. It will be a great game Saturday. I think our team is fully capable of making the playoffs this year. We have the talent to make the playoffs and hopefully a strong second of the season in one of the hardest conferences in the country will get us there. As for the champion...there is a ton of parity this year, it will be exciting to see how it plays out

Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)

How much explaining of the game do you have to do with the students on campus? Do athletes from the other sports ask you about lax?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:21 PM)

A lot of people here are very familiar with the game of lacrosse, but some people do ask about the rules.

Brian Karalunas
  (2:23 PM)

Most of the kids on campus know about lax but for those to don't I always just tell them to come to a game and I'll do my best to explain afterward. The athletes are campus are pretty close so we talk a lot about each other's sports and support one another.

eddie (shepard) (geneseo, ny)

This question is for mr. karalunas, the greatest lsm in all thou land...Mr karalunas, would you, or would you not attribute your pregame bagel sandwiches to your on-field success?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:26 PM)

All of my game success stems from my pregame bagel sandwiches, they give you unparalleled energy. Started crushing them junior year of high school and my game has gone up exponentially since then.

Joe (Louisville)

Syracuse game aside, the team has been playing great so far. How do the wins over ranked teams Delaware and Drexel help the team in the rest of the Big East games?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:27 PM)

I think with wins against Drexel and Delaware it gives our team great confidence, and shows us that we are a very good team.

cats (cuse)

What do you need to do the remainder of this season to get back to the NCAA tournament?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:28 PM)

I think in order to get back to the NCAA tournament we have to continue playing well and doing well in the big east conference.

The WonderBoy (The X)

Brian, what's you favorite check? Do you react to midfielders or do you set them up for punishment?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:30 PM)

My favorite checks are anything with butt end. Nothing more demoralizing for a midfielder than getting hit with a butt end...haha I try my best to set them up for punishment, never let a midfielder tell you where to go.

John (Philly)

Brian, you got some love in an IL story about the best LSMs in the game (picture too) - how do you feel about playing that position?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:33 PM)

John, I couldn't agree more with writer Tommy Kehoe. Most fun position in the game, mostly get to beat people up on defense but get to satisfy that occasional urge to play some O too.

Diane (Syracuse)

Are butt end checks legal? I saw you sat for 30 seconds after throwing one on Monday?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:35 PM)

Yes butt end checks are legal and highly underutilized! Highly questionable 30 second hold if you ask me.

Diane (Syracuse)

You mentioned parity -- with the tremendous growth of lacrosse over the past few years, do you envision a large number of upsets during the remainder of the season? During the tournament?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:36 PM)

I envision a number of upsets the rest of the year. Lacrosse has seen some non-traditional powerhouses emerge through the first half of the season and that will only continue as the season progresses

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:37 PM)

I think there will be a good number of upsets coming up in the second half of the season.

BillyO (Indy)

AS two guys with long ast names, how do you feel about names on the backs of lax jerseys?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:39 PM)

Haha i think its really cool when people have their names on their back.

Brian Karalunas
  (2:40 PM)

Last names might work for some people but with a name like "karalunas" it'd have to carry over to the front of my jersey and might detract from some swag.

John (Philly)

How do you guys like playing in the Big East so far?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:42 PM)

I think the Big East is great! Every game is going to be a challenge.

Mr Nova (NYC)

Brian- u have an uncanny knack of making Attackmen loose there stick with your constant relentless presure . How is this done/ Do you look at alot of film?

Brian Karalunas
  (2:43 PM)

I look at film to get an idea of who I'm playing and their tendencies but mostly I just try to run with them and hit the stick enough until they hopefully let it go.

Craig (Blatimore)

Kevin, Who's been the toughest draw to dodge against this year? What's your go-to set up move?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:45 PM)

I played a massive human being on Delaware, Pat Dowling, he was very good. I would get a step but he was so tall that he would still be able to go over my head.

Kevin Kopp (Geneseo, NY)

This is for Mr. Brian Karalunas. Mr Karalunas, which Villanova basketball player would you liken yourself to in terms of playing style? My instinct tells me Corey Fischer would be your answer.

Brian Karalunas
  (2:49 PM)

Mr. Kevin Kopp, great instincts and Fischer's up there but I'd have to go with all-american inbounder Maurice Sutton. Looks like a clown when he's in but has the heart of lion to keep going 100% on every inbound pass

Calvin W (Clearwater, FL)

What do you guys like better--outdoor or indoor lacrosse--and why?

Kevin Cunningham
  (2:50 PM)

Outdoor lacrosse, definitely. I think that in indoor lacrosse it is sometimes harder to breathe and you get tired easier.

Brian Karalunas
  (2:50 PM)

Outdoor. No question. Playing with a short stick isn't my dig and ice hockey is my game of choice during the winters.

Sean Burns
  (2:51 PM)

Alright folks, Brian and Kevin have to get on with the rest of their days and get ready for Notre Dame this weekend in a key Big East contest.

Sean Burns
