Aloha everyone. Thanks for coming today. We'll start with the latest in the NBA and then move onto the NBA Draft in the second half of the chat. Let's roll like Prokhorov ...
Hey Chad,Did you happen to see mikhail prokhorov on "60 minutes"? I don't think there will be as good of a tandem like prokhorov and jay-z this summer trying lure big free agent this summer. with the young talent nj has and the possibility of john wall, do you think the nets can sign someone that will change the team to a serious playoff team?
Saw it. For several years when I was spending a lot of time in Europe, including a trip to the Euroleague Final 4 in Moscow, you'd hear about him. He's a legend of sorts. He's more Jay Z than Mark Cuban. I think a lot of NBA players will love the way he rolls. But ... most of the elite free agents care more about winning than lifestyle. That means the Nets are going to have to have a compelling basketball package to land 'Bron, etc. IF they get John Wall, they'll be much closer than anything the owner does.
How bad is LA kicking themselves now for not getting a PG at the trade deadline?
I'm not sure it's the sole reason they are struggling, but yeah, it looks like the Lakers made a strategic error. With so many teams selling, the Lakers should've scooped someone up.
Chad, do you think the Blazers will get 50 wins? Also Nate McMillan for COY?
I think 50 wins may be a stretch, but McMillan has my vote. Skiles is second.
Will the addition of a high first round pick, a good FA and Blake Griffin propel the Clippers to a playoff spot next year?
When you also add in a new coach and new front office .. yes.
What is your top 4 in the West and in what seeding order?
1. Lakers2. Mavs3. Jazz4. Nuggets
Is Jim O'Brien on the hot seat?
Having some internet problems folks
Sorry for the delay
As for O'Brien, he should be after killing the Pacers shot at John Wall. I'm all for playing hard every game. But, clearly he and the rest of the Pacers aren't on the same page.
Is the year thjat Lebron wins a title? If not, who will stop him?
It's his best chance he's had as a pro. He's having a MVP season. He has the best supporting cast he's had. The main competition -- the Lakers and Magic -- don't have their acts together. I think it would be a major upset if he doesn't win the title.
Based off of your Pacer's comment, are you a supporter of teams intentionally tanking late in the year?
Yes. The NBA gives them an incentive to do so. If tanking now gives me the chance to win MORE games next year, of course you do it. And I think the fans understand. What do you think Pacers fans want? Another three or four meaningless wins in late March/April or John Wall or Evan Turner?
ROY: Evans, Jennings, or Curry?
Tyreke Evans for doing it consistently all year. But Jennings is the only player on a real team that's doing anything. Curry (or maybe Roddy Beaubois & Darren Collison) have been the best since the All-Star break
McMillan has done an amazing job, but I've been more impressed with Sloan and Brooks. BUT that is only if those teams finish strong. Utah would have to end up second in the West. But with Boozer demanding trades, AK47 being reenergized, and trades to save money (and this with Okur having a so-so year), Sloan has been impressive. Without Camby, I'm not sure the Blazers would be playing this well. That was a great front office move.
Both great coaches as well. But Sloan does have a lot of talent to use and Brooks has Kevin Durant. McMillan and Skiles have done more with less.
Pacers fans want Wall or Turner
Pacer fans have spoken.
Speaking of tanking, do you think the Bulls will try to tank so they can secure themselves a top 10 pick and not have to swap picks with the Bucks?
Too late. Bulls have too many wins already to go the 10th worst record. Worst they can finish, realistically, is 11th.
Chad, what is the likelihood that KC will get a team? I'm not sure if you're familiar with Kansas City, but there is a newly built stadium (Sprint Arena) in the heart of downtown KC that needs a tenant. And people here have a strong passion for basketball that could & would support an NBA team. If you're the Clippers, for instance, wouldn't you relish the opportunity to move out of the Lakers shadow and have your own market? Or perhaps a team like the Raptors. Just let me know if Kansas City will have a team soon.
I've from Kansas City. Born and raised. Would love to have them get a team. Just not sure the market is big enough compared to several other markets currently pursuing a team. But I can dream. If they get one, I'm moving from Hawaii back home.
When is the next Twitter fight with Bill Simmons? It's honestly the only thing I use Twitter for anymore. When you two start up, time stops.
Next time Bill says something like Omar Samhan can score on anyone in the league not named Dwight Howard. Love Bill, but he's making it too easy.
So what's your take on the value of the NCAA tournament relative to NBA Draft stock? Simmons was bashing you on it all week
No he wasn't. We basically have the same opinion. Mine was just more nuanced. The NCAA Tournament is a factor. Simmons argues it's the most important factor, but then goes into all sorts of exceptions to his rule ... which, when you add up all 10 of them (maybe 11 now that he's saying the double OT game versus Xavier killed Jacob Pullen's leg) it basically comes down to, the NCAA Tournament matters in certain, narrowly defined situations. I agree. It's one piece of the puzzle. For certain players, in certain games, versus certain opponents, it has an effect on how we perceive them. For others, it doesn't. But the original arguement started because I was teasing Bill for starting to watch college basketball in March. I think their whole body of work matters ... but again, that's just one piece. Draft workouts, background checks, etc matter too.
Cole Aldrich will dominate in the NBA
No. He won't. But he's not the stiff some people make him out to be either. He's way more athletic than Greg Ostertag. But he's also smaller. I think he can be a servicable big man in the league.
Am I the only one not sold on Turner? He seems like a very average athlete for the NBA, that does not bode well for a guard
Sorry internet issues again.
Let's try this again. Yes, Turner isn't an elite athlete and that does lower his ceiling. That's why John Wall is rated higher. But Turner is still a terrific prospect.
Is Ed Davis definitely gone? If so, will he be in the lottery?
Cousins and Bledsoe --- leaving or staying?
Sorry. Internet's not loving me today.
Hang in there folks. We're having some technical issues.
We're going to cut this a few minutes short. Sorry everyone. Chad will be back next week!
