I'll take the safe pick and go with JJ. He has totaled more points at Phoenix than any other drivers over the last five years.

Terry:Does the #71 TRG team have a chance to be more competitive this season with Bobby Labonte or will the results continue to get worse as the season goes along?
The results propably will get a ltitle better, but as far as contending, no. Not happening.
Where to do you see dale jr going when his contract is up at hms?
Way too early to speculate on that. Who knows. He could stay at Hendrick, he could drive for his own Cup team, he could go to RCR. Those probably are his three options.
Scott Wimmer was impressive in his stint as driver of the number 7 JMS Nationwide Car. Did his time in the number 7 "earn" him a ride somewhere? Surely some team has got to be interested after those couple of starts.
Scott has some ability, no doubt, but there aren't many opportuinities out there in Cup.
How do the drivers feel about the added length of this weeks race?
I think they're OK with it, but it wasn't done for them. It was done so the race would finish under the lights and give the fans more laps for their money.
Why do people consider Kyle great? He had one awsome season. But guys like Carl, Newman, Kahne, and Jr have also had high win seasons. Kyle also has had most of his NW wins since he moved to Cup.
It's no secret that Kyle has exceptional driving skills for his abilty to race the car on the edge without wrecking. But you have to couple that with patience in order to become a Cup champion.
Johnny Sauter seems to be coming up the ranks by getting invites to drive in Nationwide events. Does you see him doing more in Nascar, or will he be like Bodine and Hornaday and pretty much be a truck series guy for the rest of his career?
Johnny may get a Cup ride and a few events, but I don't see him becoming a full-time Cup contender at this point in his career.
Do the racers listen to music during the race? Do they have mp3 capable cars these days?
No, they just have to hum if they want to hear some tunes.
Mr. Blount Gordon fans are just like Gordon himself all they do is cry when he dosent win or something does not go his way,but its always ok when he does something.Jeff should retire and become the women of his house.whats your take?
My take is I couldn't disagree more. Jeff is a class act and one of the best individuals I've ever met in my 30 years of covering sports.
What's with the rumors that NASCAR may pull the "boys have at it" stance back in a bit after the nationwide race last weekend? They must not want to see Gordon pouting on live tv again after he gets his payback from the 17.
NASCAR didn't pull back on its penalty yesterday to Leffler, giving him a 3-race probabtion. I give them props for consistency, but as I said Tuesday on NASCAR Now, it's consistency to what end? Twice in one month, a driver has returned to the track with a premediated plan to wreck another driver over an accidental incident earlier in the race. Someone is going to get hurt if drivers think the only punishment for deliberately wrecking someone is meaningless probation.
63 additional laps, changing track conditions? Isn't that a formula for #48 winning success?

Those other guys were winning all their races in the feeder leagues. And the point of that column was to praise Kyle for his maturity this season, which I think will pay off in the long run for his Cup effort.
AWFULLY quiet on the RPM front, minus the 98 of course... With all drivers on their contract years, I believe, what do you see playing out for RPM as a whole? And if Kasey leaves, does Kenny go with him?
I thionk Kasey likes Kenny, but that will depend on what the new team wants and who they have in place.
Any word on HMS extending Chad Knaus? It's suspicious he's not locked up yet. Could he be exploring his options?
I'd be very surprised in Chad left HMS.

In my book I list Cope, but not as the worst, more like the luckiest.

You're right Tim. Both are genuinely good guys, but lots of good guys over the years haven't liked each other. We see that in politics all the time.

I'd say no, not until he wins a Cup title.

Denny a tough guy, so I wouldn't write him off. But I have serious doubts about how this entire situation will affect him. ACL is not minor surgery. The recovery period is long and difficult and painful.
It seems like there is a lockout in every other sport... Any chance of this in NASCAR?
No, because NASCAR drivers do not have a union.
what date do the drivers have circled on their calendars as the race they dread the most?
It depends on their skills. If they aren't good road racers, they hate Sonoma and Watkins Glen. But most of the drivers dread Talladega because they know chances are high they will end up in a big wreck.
Some people say that the NW and CWTS are not feeder leagues. I always thought they were. I do not need to see the same guy race 3 times in a weekend. Give me a guy like Allgaier or Peters over schub and Kevin any day of the week.

Terry,Not many races to choose from up here in Minny. Out of Chicago, Kansas, and Michigan, which would you prefer?
Tough choice. I'd go with Kansas because it's a really nice facility with a lot of new restaurants and things around it. The Joliet track is similar in it's design, and there's tons of fun stuff to do if you want to make the short drive up to Chicago.
It's been awfully quiet on the Mayfield front for some time. Has this story finally come to a halt or do you see more coming from this media circus?
Have you ever been to Barber Motorsports Park where the Indy cars are running Sunday and do you think Nascar will add some more road courses like Road America?
Haven't been to BMP but I hear good things about it. NASCAR won't be adding road courses to the Cup sked any time soon. What they should so is trade The Glen for another road course.
How come Nascar and Izod scheduled the Texas race and Long Beach Grand Prix to get head to head at 3:00 PM next weekend?
NASCAR really isn't worried about going head-to-head with an IndyCar race. But the race is starting at 3 ET because TMS prez Eddie Gossage begged for the later start time.
How would the television networks and the track owners like it if Sprint Cup stars didn't race in NW or CWTS? Wouldn't those series fold without cup owners and cup drivers?
Cup drivers help sell tickets to those events, yes. But there should be limits on it. Cup drivers shouldn't race for the title. It makes the series meaningless. It's like A Rod winning the Triple-A home run title.
Which rookie do you see having the biggest impact in NASCAR this year?
In Cup there are no rookies having an impact. In case you're wondering, Keselowski is not a rookie, not officially.

Yes it does. It's true they are more cars with a chance at winning today than there were 20 and 30 years ago.
Great story on Kyle today! At only 24 with 64 Nascar wins, if Kyle races another 25 years or so what kind of numbers could Kyle put up?
A lot, but as I said, those numbers won't mean much unless he starts putting up more wins in Cup, and I believe he will.
Terry, Kyle is not a great driver. He is good, but not great.
Kyle is a very talented driver. He needs to win a Cup title or two to become great.
With Red Bull being so competitive in formula one do you ever see them being just as competitive in NASCAR?
RB is getting better and I have the utmost respect for GM Jay Frye. But they will need to add a third car at some point to compete head to head wit the big boys.
How about Kevin Conway in the Extenze Ford, he is a great rookie.

He won't miss the Chase and he will be back in 2011, one way or the other.

Terry Blount, I have been watching NASCAR for 36 years, but have never been to a race. I'm retired, and can go to a race anywhere in the Southeast or Northeast. Any suggestions?
Bristol is fun if you like short-track racing. Dega is as wild as it gets. And the Daytona 500 is special. But maybe the most underrated place is Richmond. Great racing and you can see all the way around the track.
Should a driver like Menard be eligible for the NW title? He has had very limited success in Cup.
In my opinion. no driver who races a full Cup sked should be eligible for the NW title, regarsdles of his success level in Cup.
Are you saying there is no chance of USF1 forming a team for next season or no plans for any US F-1 team entering F-1 in the forseeable future or both?
I'm saying they're done. They have shut down. Unless something very surprising happens, they won't be racing in 2011.
Petty, Pearson, Allison, Cale , DW and Gordon all have more cup wins than Earnhardt so doesn't that rate them as greater-in accomplishments-than Dale?
No it doesn't. Petty's 200 wins are comparable to the modern era. Sometimes he raced and won three times in one week on dirt tracks. It doesn't lessen his accomplishment, but it's comparing apples and oranges.
Please Terry Blount; One more time. Would Cup drivers continue to "Buschwhack" in the lower series if they couldn't run for the title or would it just be at a lesser rate? Your Shrub's and Harvick's are going to continue to race as much as they can.
They would continue to run, they just wouldn't run every race.
