Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling

Josh (KC, MO)

if the chiefs take berry in the first round, who do you see them taking with their second round picks

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

I like Golden Tate and a linebacker in the second round.

Ryan (Northern California)

What are the chances of the Chargers trading up to get C.J. Spiller?

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

I think anything is possible with A.J. Smith in this draft. It may be unlikley, but I wouldn't be shocked if Spiller dropped a bit that Smith makes a run at him.

Amy (LaJolla, Ca)

The division improved in 2009, do you think that trend will continue?

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

Hard to answer right now. Turhtfully, I haven't seen a lot of improving outside of K.C.

Mike (Lake Forest, CA)

What are the chances the Raiders go after Hanesworth?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I think he could fit. If the price is really a third-round pick, Oakland should look into it.

Ryan (Northern California)

If Norv Turner doesn't take the Chargers to the Super Bowl this year do you think he'll be fired?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

No.

TOUCHDOWN KAN-SA-CITY!!!! (KANSAS CITY, MO.)

How likely is it that the Chiefs get Ted Ginn r, we really need KR/PR bad!

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

It depends on the cost.If it was a third-round pick or so, I think the Cheifs should look into him.

Hootie (San Diego, Ca)

In recent years opposing defenses have focused on containing Tomlinson and forcing the Chargers to beat them through the air. Rivers showed he was up to the challenge particularly with the deep pass. What should we expect in 2010?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

Assuming the Chargers draft a capable primary back, I think you will see more balance.

Tye Copeland (Springfield, MO)

Do you think that if the Chiefs can't trade out of the 5th pick they could draft Clausen and use him as trade bait and still get decent value even though they wouldn't have great leverage with Cassel already on the team?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

Maybe, but they better how an idea of someone wanting him or it could be a disaster. Unless, of coruse, the Chiefs want Clausen.I still think that pairing would be a shocker. But what a story that would be.

Mike (Germany)

Hi Bill, any chance the 49ers look to move up to #8, giving the Raiders an additional 2nd or 3rd rounder?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

I know the Raiders have taken calls about the pick. But everybody is calling about every pick these days.

Joel (California)

What happens if rolando McClain is gone at 11 and so is dez bryant..who do the broncos get??

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

Probably trade down ... Or here's a longshot: Joe Haden.

Mark (San Diego, CA)

Billy, Great article on the Chargers last week. Word on the street says the bolts are interested in brining Sharper on board. Any truth to the rumor? Will he eliminate the question mark in the Charger's secondary?

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

Thanks ... I've seen that, too. It could be a fit. He is a difference maker even at an advanced NFL age.

Bruce (C. Springs)

Hey Bill! Thanks for your blog! I keep hearing McClain associated with the Broncos at pick 11. I just don't see it. An ILB at 11 along with D.J. Williams would make the two the highest paid ILB duo in NFL history -- at a position of lesser importance to the 3-4 defense. I like Odrick or Dan Williams at 11. Your thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

Williams would be interesting. But McClain and Williams would be nice in the 3-4.

Mike (Stockton,Ca) [via mobile]

Should the raiders draft a left tackle or go after the top comer n the draft or a big time safety to help

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

Oakland has needed a tackle for years. It needs to finally fill that hole.

Steve (Johnson)

Now that Marshall is gone in Denver, who do you see being the #1 reciever?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

I don't think he is on the team yet. Bryant ... Gasp, T.O.?

Ted (Simi Valley)

Bill, what are the odds the Chief snatch up Terrence Cody with the #36 pick?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

Sure, unless he goes before then. I think the Chargers like him at No. 28.

Luke (Bend, Or)

Bill, regardless of whether or not the chargers draft a RB in rd 1 or 2, wont they want do draft another decent RB or trade for one. We know that rookies can easily get injured or take time to learn. What do you think AJ Smith will do?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

I would not be shocked if San Diego took two running backs. It's a deep class.

David (Harbor City)

Do you think Al Davis will shock everyone and pick Tebow at 8?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

No ... But, you're right, that would shock everyone.

Dick (Berkeley, CA)

Do you think the Raiders should pick up Campbell and get a tackle during the first round of the draft, or should the Raiders pick up Clausen during the first round and worry about the tackles later? Which is the best way to make the raiders franchise better?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

Go tackle, but I'm not sure Campbell will be the guy. I think there are better tackles available.

Ryan (Northern California)

Do you think the Raiders will give Jamarcus Russell one more shot?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Fanhouse reported they will. I think the only way that should happen if Russell makes major, I mean, major, strides in camp and in the preseason. Otherwise, they should go with Gradkowski.

Randy Webb (Grove, OK)

What is the possibility of the Chiefs trading down a few spot to maybe pickup some additional picks?

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

I think it is very real possibility, especially if Okung goes to the Redskins at No. 4

Blaze (IE, CA)

Do you see the raiders trading their 2nd round pick to BAL for Gaither? With him at LT and Henderson at RT that would solidfy their OT position for the next 10 years.

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

I think Oakland and Kansas City could take long looks at Gaither. It could be interesting for a second-round pick.

Brian (San Francisco)

I have a gut feeling based on Raider draft history they may take CB - Haden or DT - Willams with the first pick. Can they find enough help in the second round for the tackle spot maybe even Campbell?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

I'm liking the Haden pick more and more.

Trevor (Brentwood, CA)

How long do you think AJ Smith will wait before signing Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeil to long term contracts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

Maybe this summer, maybe after next season. The sooner the smarter.

Bobby (Denver Co)

How quick do you think Tony gets traded from the broncos now that he signed his tender?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

I;'m not sure what the market is. It could to go the draft or beyond.

Clay (Charlotte)

Has McDaniels shortened his lease since getting rid of Cutler and Marshall?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

I think eh came to Denver with a short leash.

Ricky Rich (Bay Area, CA)

There are rumors that Al Davis is in love with CJ Spiller. Would that be the wrong move for Oakland?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

With all the other needs, Yes.

Randy Webb (Grove, OK)

Do you see Oklahoma TE Jermaine Gresham as being a fit in KC if he somehow slips to the top of round 2?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

The Chiefs aren't relaly that big on tight ends, especially that early. It would be a surprise.

BigPapi (San Diego)

What do you think of this scenarioMock Draft:Round one: Brian PriceRound two: Terrence CodyRound three: Montario HardestyRound Four: best ol availableRound Five: Legarrete Blount

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Interesting. Not bad.

Eric (San Diego)

Any chance that the Chargers will trade (let's say a 4th rounder) for Marshawn Lynch? Could fill the RB hole.

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

I think the Chargers would have made that deal already. I think they want a youngster. Now, if the Chargers took a RB early and then traded for Lynch as a complement to the rookie and Sproles, that wouldn't be bad.

joe (lawrence)

true or false: KC will be the second best offense in the division behind san diego next season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Let's see what the draft produces. But, yes, it's possible.

Rick (Boulder)

Bill, is there anything else Josh McDaniels can do to dilute the talent at WR for the Broncos? He's made Eddie Royal a non-factor, Marshall is gone and likely Sheffler too but at least he'll have "his guys" in there.

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Yes, it's a major concern. He has to reload there.

Jeff (SOBE)

Is Ginn worth a 3rd round pick?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

For the right team who really need a vertical receiver and a return man, sure.

matt (lancaster pa)

what do u think about the dolphins getting branden marshal

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

I think they got a guy who is going to catch 100 balls a season for the rest of his careeer ... They also got a guy who is a potential major headache.

Spiegel (Stevenson Ranch,CA)

What does Tom Cable have to do this season to comeback in 2011? 8-8?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Maybe 9-7.

Greg M (Dallas)

Bill,Considering Denver just traded Marshall because of his off-field issues, don't you think replacing him with Dez Bryant, the most noted off-field-issues-prospect in the draft and a guy who is falling down of draft boards all over the league, would be a hard sell to the fans?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

Yes, it would, Yes, it would. But what other choie does Denver have?

Magpie (Chicago)

Hey Bill, do you think that CJ is too similar to Sproles? I guess that also brings up if Sproles will be with the Chargers long term. Who would you like to see the Chargers draft in terms of RBs at 28?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Ryan Matthews if he is available, but Houston likes him at No. 20.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour, everyone. Please join me at 2 p.m. ET Monday as part of a special NFL draft chat marathon. Hope to talk to you then.
