  (4:29 PM)

Pierre's on his way folks. He's headed to the arena and should be here by 4:45 p.m. ET.

Pierre LeBrun
  (4:50 PM)

Greetings from HSBC Arena in Buffalo !sorry i'm a few minutes late.Let's go !

Marc Savard (Boston, MA)

Forget about Jarome Iginla, is there any way we can acquire Evander Kane!?!

Pierre LeBrun
  (4:52 PM)

Haha, I don't think you'll see Matt Cooke make that mistake ever again !

Josh S. (Philadelphia)

Any chance the Flyers with Boucher in net, could upset the devils?

Pierre LeBrun
  (4:55 PM)

Given that Philly beat the Devils 5 out of 6 games in the regular season, I don't see why not.I picked the Devils in 7 but not with much confidence.I mean honestly folks, this league is so close now. All 16 teams in the playoffs have a shot. The salary cap has really shrunk the talent gap between teams.OK 15 teams have a shot except Montreal :)

Pierre LeBrun
  (4:55 PM)

One of my favorite songs blaring on the HSBC speakers right now: Signs, signs from Tesla

Jim Neveau (Aroma Park, IL )

Pierre, Puck Prospectus ranked the Blackhawks as having the best defense in the NHL playoffs, while simultaneously ranking them as the worst goaltending of the 16 teams. Should I be jumping for joy or waiting for disaster?

Pierre LeBrun
  (4:57 PM)

They allowed the fewest shots on goal per game this season. So that's why their team defense is ranked so high. Mind you, without Brian Campbell it's not as good. The goaltending? We'll soon find out my friend.I will be in Chicago tomorrow night to witness it !

Jesse S. (Carmel, NY)

Pierre, tell me your heart didn't skip a beat last night when you saw the whiteout in Phoenix and think how that should be happening in Winnipeg. The Pens have done this the last two years and it is cool, but the Jets were the originals. But it would still make more sense if the teams actually wore white at home again! (hear that Bettman)

Pierre LeBrun
  (4:59 PM)

Jesse, always a pleasure to take your questions.Yes, watching the Winnipeg Jets whiteout in Phoenix on TV last night was pretty darn special. I think there's a chance you'll see NHL back in the Peg in the next five or six years

Ryan (Reynoldsburg,Ohio)

Would Kevin Dineen make a good coach for the columbus blue jackets

Pierre LeBrun
  (4:59 PM)

Definitely. And I think he's in the mix

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Which NHL Team will have their Minor League Hockey team in Albany of the American Hockey League in 2010-2011 Season?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:01 PM)

Chris, I emailed your question to AHL president Dave Andrews and here's what he emailed back as a response:Andrews: ''TBD. We should know within the next 3-4 weeks whether any team will relocate to Albany. The Albany franchise has been sold to ownership in Charlotte and will be affiliated with Carolina Hurricanes."Thank you Mr. Andrews !

Doug Wilson (San Jose, CA)

Did somebody let the air out of the building? Can somebody get me an oxygen tank? I feel a little light-headed.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:03 PM)

Yikes. What a sickening feeling seeing that again last night. Honestly I can't believe how hard it is to watch that every year. It's only one game. But what a brutal start.

RJ (Boston)

Maybe what's wrong with Phoenix really is the fans. A white-out is not really that cool when it's the VISITORS wearing white. Man that looked dumb... even if they did cheer at the right times.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:04 PM)

Indeed, when the Jets did it in Winnipeg the home team was in white !

Bill (Washington, DC)

After yesterday, who should be more concerned: Detroit or San Jose?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:04 PM)

Pittsburgh

Ben (SF/NYC)

Did you realize that the favorite in each match up from yesterday lost the opening game? I don't feel so bad about the Sharks losing the opener anymore.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:05 PM)

Ben, if I didn't realize that I guess I should be fired :)But technically, the Wings are the not the favorite since they are the lower seeed to Phoenix

david (maryland)

name one sleeper team in the east and west conference who could contend for the stanley cup?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:06 PM)

not sure if you would call them sleepers or not but I'd say Buffalo and Vancouver

HockeyFan (Toronto)

Who did your Hart vote go to?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:08 PM)

I gave Sedin my number one vote

Ramsey (Los Angeles)

Which version of Luongo do you expect we will see? The one who played superbly until the break, or the one who looked out of gas following his Olympic triumph?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:09 PM)

The good one

Brian Boucher (Philadelphia, PA)

Pierre, was 50% of the crowd in Newark last night really Flyers fans, because my friends that watched on TV told me that is what it sounded like? From down on the ice I heard distinct "Booo'ing" whenever I made a good save and I think that was my fans cheering my name rather than Jersey fans trying to rip me. Not unlike the playoffs a few years ago when 75% of the Rock was Rangers fans and the PA guy had to blare rock music to drown out the standing ovation after every Rangers goal. Good job Jersey fans for coming out.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:09 PM)

don't know bud, I'm in Buffalo !

Jesse S. (Carmel, NY)

Pierre, the Pens website (and Jumbotron) has a video of Matthew Barnaby highlights set to the soundtrack of "Born to Be Bad" by George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers...which features the lyric "I'm the sweetest piece of lovin' that a girl ever had" as they show him talking trash and whooping it up after a fight or goal...which is awesome. If they made a video of your career highlights, what would you want the song to be? Perhaps "Sharp Dressed Man" by ZZ Top as they show you in that detachable helmet?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:11 PM)

Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi with me pouring a pitcher of beer over my head while I write on deadline :)

Jordan (Albuquerque NM)

Detroit's pk was awful and Doan creamed us last night. Any chance we recall abdelkader so he can put the hurt on doan?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:11 PM)

I'm not in Phoenix so I don't know but it's interesting to note that Detroit's PK really struggled in last year's playoffs despite a Cup finals run

Chad (Denver, CO)

What are the realistic chances of the Avs beating the Sharks after last night?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:12 PM)

Better than they were before last night ! hahaHey, given the Sharks' history, who knows.

Jason (Portland, OR)

Pierre, given the Sharks history of early exits would you label Friday's game a "must-win", if only to silence the ghosts of playoff's past?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:12 PM)

yes, definitely

Craig Adams (Pittsburgh, PA)

Pierre, I went 111 games without scoring a goal and then scored one during the first game of the playoffs on a ridiculous backhand snipe. No name guys scoring big goals, just another thing that makes the playoffs great right? Too bad I wasted it in a losing effort.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:13 PM)

Chris Kontos

Drew Amato (Detroit, MI)

I think we can both agree that the redwings outplayed the coyotes last night. Do you think that it's too early for a switch to ozzie? I think that if he has one big game, he'll continue the momentum to ensure a long playoff run.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:14 PM)

Too early. Give Howard another chance. He's earned it after that great season

Kyle (CT)

What do you think will happen when the Sharks lose again in the first round to the upstart Aves? An exile of Joe Thornton? The Sharks could be in more trouble against the Aves if Mueller returns for the series.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:15 PM)

Well for starters both Marleau and Nabokov are UFA July 1 so that's a good start.... And I also wonder if GM Doug Wilson (one of my favorites) would survive as well ...

Nikolia Zherdev (Russia)

Is there really interest in me in the NHL? I know I don't play defense, I hardly hustle, and I'm more inconsistent than Alexei Kovalev.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:15 PM)

I think you answered your own question, big boy

Joe (Buffalo)

Pierre, I saw your post about watching games in town last night... Where did you end up watching? Pearl Street Brewery is a great place for hockey and only a stones throw from the arena...

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:16 PM)

I've been to Pearl Street in the past and like it but last night was at Bada Bing's. Didn't see Tony Soprano but watched some great hockey

Mark (SJ, CA)

Hey Pierre, love your stuff. What are your thoughts on the Pens last night? Looked like they clearly had the edge in skill and talent, but just weren't hustling to loose pucks.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:17 PM)

Thanks Mark, appreciate that.I wasn't in Pittsburgh so it's harder to have a firm analytical thought but from watching on TV, I just thought Fleury was brutal.

Rich (Philly)

Can the boosh man lead the Flyers on another deep playoff run?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:18 PM)

''Another" ?

CC (Atlanta)

Tell me the Thrashers will get an established NHL coach with a system that is proven to work. Like I don't know... Bob Hartley. What about Mike Keenan?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:19 PM)

From what I was told by a Thrashers front office source they were leaning more towards a young coach with a good pedigree who could grow with a young team

Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh)

I have a Cup ring, Junior gold, a Stanley Cup, won the Art Ross, Hart, Lester B Person, Rocket Richard and I'm only 22. Why do so many people still hate me?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:20 PM)

Probably because you were heavily hyped, not that it was your fault, coming out of the lockout. You have set the bar when it comes to winning. Now OV has to try and match it.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:21 PM)

Now we've got some Talk Dirty To Me by Poison on the speakersOh yeah baby

Tim (AZ)

Pierre, what do the Coyotes have to do tomorrow night to go to Detroit up 2-0?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:22 PM)

1. stay out of the box2. limit turnovers in the neutral zone3. keep puck deep and pound Wings' D

Bob (Bangor, ME)

Pierre, who has the biggest upside in the draft, who do you expect Edmonton to pick, and do you think that either or both Seguin and Hall (and even Fowler) will have a major impact on their team next season?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:25 PM)

Bob, I've actually been to Bangor !The draft is not my domain my friend, that's Gare Joyce for us...But read my draft lottery blog from Tuesday night to get my thoughts on it...http://espn.go.com/nhl/blog/_/name/lebrun_pierre/id/5083863/oilers-bruins-hit-lottery-jackpot

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:25 PM)

Now they're playing Youth Gone Wild by Skid Row. I'm in heaven !!!!

Justin (toronto)

First Kuba, then Kovalev, now Michalek. How badly do you figure that all of these injuries hurt the Sens chances off pulling this off against Pitt.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:26 PM)

It'll hurt big time. And it'll cost them the series

Nick (North Carolina)

Red Wings got ROBBED. Good thing the NHL wouldn't benefit from them winning games or anything...

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:26 PM)

LOL

Mike (Rochester)

Lebrunski, Why I am not worried that the Sharks lost last night?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:27 PM)

Probably because Craig Anderson stood on his head and you figure he probably can't do it all series long?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:28 PM)

On my God the music keeps getting better here at HSBC Arena. Now we've got some Faith No More !

Garrett (Buffalo)

Pierre how is Buffalo treating you? Who do you think are a couple of under the radar guys on the Sabres who can make a big impact in the playoffs?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:29 PM)

Buffalo always treats me well. Love this town and really like this organization.Keep an eye on Tony Lydman. He's an underrated blue-liner.

Adam (Nebraska)

What was up with the Devils last night?? Is this going to be yet another year where New Jersey is eliminated in the first round?!?! What do they need to do to make to the second round?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:29 PM)

Hard to tell for sure from TV but to me they just didn't generate any offensive zone pressure

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:30 PM)

Speaking of Buffalo, I made it into the Buffalo News blog today :)http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/2010/04/why-no-love-for-these-sabres.html

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:31 PM)

Now a little Van Halen on the horn at HSBC Arena.Yes folks, I'm an 80s metal head

Jim (Grand Rapids MI)

We know Phoenix is a good young team, but when will the "pixie dust" wear off? Is Detroit too strong for them over the long haul? Realistically, how far do you see Detroit going this playoff run? Just getting to the dance isn't enough for Detroit.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:33 PM)

The Wings were 16-3-2 post-Olympics, tops in the NHL. That's why I picked them to win in 6 games. But as you saw last night, the Coyotes are very committed defenseively. More than any team in the league they make you earn every inch of the ice. It's a bitch to play against them

Brian Gerstein (Toronto)

How surprised were you to see Colorado get Game #1 in the Shark Tank. Are the Sharks going to once again implode or will they steady the ship.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:33 PM)

Brian, I'm no longer surprised at anything playoff-related with the Sharks

Nick Bourgeois (British Columbia)

What are the chances of seeing Peter Mueller during the first round.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:35 PM)

Nick, I'm not covering that series so can't tell you... but here's the latest from the Denver Posthttp://www.denverpost.com/avalanche/ci_14878597

Jeff (Exton, PA)

How bad is that at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey a "Booch" cheer can be heard whenever Boucher makes a save?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:36 PM)

sad indeedDevils fans on these message boards have aleways been so passionate but it never seems to tranlate at the rink. Might have to do with expensive ticket prices in that new building

John (Boston)

bruins in 7?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:36 PM)

Sabres in 7

Jeff (DC)

Pierre, do the Caps have any trouble with the Canadiens? This matchup has got me a bit nervous. I think the Caps win in 6 very close games.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:36 PM)

Caps in 3

mike (pittsburgh)

Coyotes and Senators are going to win their playoff series, you can take that to the bank and the Senators won't need game 7 to do it. Fleury is an atrocity in net and if I hear anyone tell me about how clutch he is I think I am going to tear my hair out.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:37 PM)

just wanted Mike to have his say

Brian (Ann Arbor, MI)

What was in Shane Doan's water bottle last night? Do you think the olympic snub by Team Detroit, I mean, Team Canada added some fuel for him? He was running everything insight last night...

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:39 PM)

he has always been a big-game player. Scored winning goal in 2004 World Cup of Hockey championship game at Air Canada Center over Finland

Ron (las vegas)

Of all the upsets last night, which team is in the most trouble?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:39 PM)

New Jersey

Marc (Malden, MA)

I know everyone thinks Ryan Miller has the Vezina locked up, but Tuukka Rask led the league in GAA and SVG and I don't think anyone has ever led the league in both categories and NOT won the Vezina.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:40 PM)

Didn't play as many games as the top-flight starters. Believe me, the 30 GMs who voted on the Vezina almost definitely gave it to Miller

Mike (IL)

Is there anyone in the world outside of Detroit Red Wings fans rooting against the Yotes to beat them? I think not.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:41 PM)

you're probably rightwow _ now they're playing I Want To Hear It Loud by KISS.Love it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rich (South Jersey)

Im a flyers fan so its easy for me to say, but as a hockey fan in general, i feel like Martin Brodeur is not all that great anymore, your opinion?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:43 PM)

don't tickle the sleeping giant !!!!1993. Nordiques go up 2-0 in their first-round series with Montreal in the last Battle of Quebec.I think it was Nords goalie coach who was quoted then as saying Quebec had found a hole in Roy's game. Oh boy. St. Patty awoke. And the rest is history as they say...Flyers are up 1-0... shhhhhh... don't tease Brodeur now !

Bob (Tampa)

Pierre I am a Buffalo native that moved to Florida 10 years ago, I as wondering how the atmosphere around the city is right now? I still have a lot of close friends that said two years ago the city was buzzing during the playoffs.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:46 PM)

actually it's been kind quiet so far... Sabres fans apprehensive I guess.. I've seen it with much better buzz here over the years.. but it's early..

KD (Chicago)

Realistically, will Brian Campbell play in the first round as is now being speculated? Athletes heal fast, but 4-5 weeks for a broken collar bone?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:47 PM)

will find out when I get to Chicago tomorrow !

Jeff (DC)

Pierre, an ESPN-related question for you. As a francophone, I was surprised that you aren't covering the Caps-Canadiens series. Any specific reason Scott got it instead of you?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:49 PM)

We actually talked about that as a team, our hockey editor Joy Russo, Scott and I ... I'm off to Chicago tomorrow where I LOVE going. Love being aroudn the Hawks and I really wanted to cover them this spring. Scott doesn't speak French but has many friends and colleagues who do in Montreal so he's covered. So we're all happy !

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:49 PM)

Now it's the Black Crowes with Jealous Again. Another classic

Bill (Pasadena, CA)

Hey Pierre, whats your prediction on the Kings opening round series? Thank you.

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:50 PM)

Canucks in 7But you know I love the Kings

jon (chicago)

Since you'll be in Chicago for it.....cheering during the anthem (as they do in the UC).....appropriate and patriotic or disrespectful?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:50 PM)

no cheering in the press box. But it's awesome to witness every time I'm there

Kyle (CT)

If you had your choice of any player in the NHL right now to build you're team around, who would you choose?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:51 PM)

I would want Crosby, Ovechkin, Toews, Doughty, Keith, Miller. Is that ok? LOL

Nick Bourgeois (British Columbia)

Rumor running out there, that Pierre Karl Peladeau might have bought the Islanders... Is this a case of utter non-sense, or the good old "where there is smoke there is fire"?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:52 PM)

League executive told me it's not true.

Yuri (D.C.)

Pierre, why are you in Buffalo anyway?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:54 PM)

Hawks don't start until Friday night so I thought Buffalo was close to home (Toronto) and I'd squeeze in a little Adams Division magic before I went West...

Matt (Dallas)

I think it's kind of ridiculous to compare fan bases of Canadian and American teams. Hockey has been the #1 sport in Canada for what...140 years? It's a much newer sport here and so many American franchises have to deal with the added problem of educating and selling the game to it's city (fans). Some franchises are further along than others and winning definitely helps. So, why do we have to always go through "This team should be in "insert Canadian city here"? If you love the sport, seeing fans getting behind, Carolina, Tampa, Phoenix more recently, should make you proud. That means the sport is growing. What's the problem with that?

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:54 PM)

agreed

Joe (Buffalo)

Ahhhh the Bing...

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:55 PM)

it was hopping last night !

Pierre LeBrun
  (5:57 PM)

OK cool cats, gotta go. Enjoy the playoff hockey tonight.I know I will here in Buffalo.Until next week.Cheers
