Thanks for dropping by. Fun night watching the NFL draft.. am ready to talk some football so let's go!
If terrelle Pryor has a Heisman like year, will he stay at Ohio state or enter the draft?
If he wins a Heisman, that means there's a good chance that he's also got OSU in the BCS title game. He pulls off that double I think he'd be really tempted to leave... Obviously he's still raw QB wise so let's see how he develops.
what can we expect from the fighting irish this season
More attention to detail although I doubt the offense could be much better since the O-line has to be rebuilt and you have a first year QB. I do like Mike Floyd and Kyle Rudolph.. I think the pressure of not having Weis there will be good for this team. Also helps they don't have many true road games...Not sure they win more than 8 but that'd be an improvement.
Pig soooeeee. U think Ryan M. Is going to be a top 10 pick next year.
He's got the size and the arm, but does he have the make-up and the temperment/maturity for a team to jump that high to make him their franchise? Not sure.
does nebraska make a national championship run this year?
It all depends on the QB play. The D should be good. The O-line's solid and they have two very good RBs.
Bruce: Do any colleges have coaches whose job is entirely evaluating potential recruits or do they rely on the services and then leave postion coaches to make the final determination? Thanks.
It varies on schools as to whether an assistant or only the head coach decides who gets an offer. Most schools now have in-house recruiting coordinators although those guys are not allowed to "coach"... no one relies on recruiting services to tell them who can play and who can't, but they do use them for names to begin the evaluation process.
If Dan Hawkins win 7 games at CU does he stay? He has been a disaster and the program has regressed. What should they do?
I think he has to win at least eight this year.
Is Oregon still the toughest game on USC's schedule next year? Or maybe the trip to Corvalis?
The state of Oregon has proven to be brutal for USC of late... Going up to Stanford won't be easy either.
What are your feelings about the future of FSU football and this upcoming year?
Big believer in Christian Ponder and the offense should be very good. I think the D will be a lot better but it has to be because it's been awful. I think FSU is a top 15 team this year.
any idea if robert bolden will have a chance at starting qb for psu considerning he didnt enroll early
I was really impressed with him at Elite 11 camp out here. Really live arm, good feet, but he's still really young and inexperienced. I don't see PSU flipping him the keys so early.
Do you think Tebow can be a good QB in the NFL? Already excited for him to help out with 3rd down and short yardage situations for Denver. I bet he sees a 1-3 plays a game depending on situation.
I think he can be a good QB. Anyone who was as productive as he was in college has a shot, especially if he's big enough and he is. I don't think he'll be as good as say Phillip Rivers but he could be a guy you could win with if you surround him with enough talent.
Any idea why Kyle Wilson dropped so far last night?
No, wondered that myself. I think he's a steal.
No, wondered that myself. I think he's a steal.
Bruce? Seriously...why is so much put into this draft like where these athletes are picked really matters?
It matters from an investment/commitment sense. But the bigger point is the NFL is loaded with late round success stories and first round flops. It's a speculative circus and people are fascinated by that.
People realize character and intangibles don't matter in the nfl if you can't play right? Nobody listens to the backup
I heard a guy who had a lot of success in the NFL say something like that yesterday.
Has espn gameday ever been at the same location two weeks in a row? This year with Penn state and florida playing in consecutive weeks in Tuscaloosa, it might tempt some of the producers..
Not sure.. I'd have to check with some of my GameDay buddies about the history question.
What are the chances VT beats Boise St? Tyrod for Heisman and President or just 1?
It's not at Boise so I like VT's chances. Not ready to say Tyrod is a Heisman guy though. They have two other great players in that backfield.
Did Bulaga make a mistake coming out? Still went in the 1st and to a good situation for him, but lost a lot of money due in part to the depth at tackle this year.
Hard for me to say it was a mistake given that it's still going to be so much money he could take care of his family for generations and I don't know his financial circumstances previous to the draft. If he came back and got injured, who knows if he's still a #1. His head coach knows O-linemen and the NFL better than anyone coaching in college football so I trust he got some good advice.
I know you might break the law here by commenting, but is BC a 10 win team next year wiht pretty much everyone back outside of WR and C and the re emergence of the former best ACC linebacker?
I don't think their QB play is good enough to win 10 games in that league, but I do think their defense should be very good.
I am a Georgia alum, but I LOVE Tim Tebow. Will Aaron Murray turn out to be as good as Tim Tebow?
I think Murray will be very good, but expecting to be as productive as Tebow is asking too much.
Hey Bruce! What did of damage will Kansas State do in the Big 12 and overall this year with the addition of a large number of recruits and great transfers? and don't forget the Magic Man, Bill Snyder.
I think they're battling for second in the Big 12 North with Mizzou behind Neb.
Bruce, do you find it funny that Mcshay and Kiper spend sooo much time on the draft and miss by soo much? And why is that?
It's all speculative stuff.. The NFL invests tons of money and time, and their teams miss on a bunch of guys. It happens.
i think i remember Brandon Spikes being pretty high with the experts what has happened with him ? why the fall from grace??
There are huge concerns about his speed. He ran a 5.05 40 at his pro day. That's good if he's a 320 pound DT not a linebacker.
Bruce, what are your thoughts on Bama's D having watched the A-Day game?
Impressed, but I figured I would be. They have lots of talent still there with Barron, Dareus, Hightower, Chapman and Kirkpatrick, among others.
Couldn't an argument be made that not every conference can support its own TV network like the Big Ten? For example, there are more TV's in the Big Ten region than any other conference, in addition to huge alumni bases in Penn State, Ohio State and Michigan. That's not true of most other conferences.
Hello Bruce! Looking back on Dolphins picks in later rounds like Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor both 5th round picks and both multiple year pro bowlers do you have any thoughts on a fourth and 5th rounder for us to look out for? Thanks a lot!
Sorry ...phone call
Sorry about that.
I like Javy Arenas as a late round guy. Others Dexter Davis from ASU; Ricky Sapp from Clemson; QB Thad Lewis from Duke. I also think Patrick Trahan will surprise some people because you're talking about a linebacker with legit 4.5 speed.
Wasn't Taylor Mays projected to go in the top 10 in last year's draft had he come out?
He was, but the problem with that stuff is it's not the NFL people who are touting it and they're the ones who look at things much closer when it's the actual process, same for a Brandon Spikes.
How many wins for Washington this upcoming season?
Bryn Renner looked pretty good in the UNC Spring Game? Can he challenge TJ Yates for the starting job? The Tar Heels need the offense to be semi-productive and the defense should get the rest of the job done.
HE can, and it's a good sign he stopped playing baseball. The D will be awesome. If their offense can be consistent they'll be a top 10 team.
Can Kentucky be competitive in the SEC East this year?
I don't think they have a good enough D to make a run at winning the division.
Any thoughts on the major success of the OU program in this draft so far? If only those guys would have stayed healthy last year...
It's impressive, although it isn't great that there was only one top five finish in the past four years.
Just how bright is the future looking for 'Bama?
Good time to be a Bama fan. They have a real shot at going back to back.
Thanks...I was thinking with the recruiting machine Saban has going now it's more like they'll be the odds on favorite for several years...
Could be, but you never know. A few years back I had a conversation with a USC guy who is pretty sharp and he was talking about how they were primed for such a long run... things come up. Complacency can set in, chemistry is fickle.. there's a reason why no one was won three in a row in college football.
Utah and CO going to the Pac 10... good move or bad move for all involved? or, is it that easy?
I think it'd be a good move for both, but it won't be that easy.
Crazy that no USC players made the first round. When's the last time that happened?? I guess that sort of tells us all we need to know about their record last season, huh?
It actually happened in 2007 when Jarrett went 45 and was their highest pick... the other part of your point though is valid.
If Colorado goes to the Pac-10, and Mizzou and Nebraska go to the Big10, is the Big12 done for? Will Texas and aTm start looking for a new conference?
Lots of big picture questions that are floating out there. Does that mean the Big 12 looks hard at TCU and Houston?
What will it take for PSU upset the tide?
Lots of forced turnovers... it's asking a lot of a completely untested QB to win on the road there.
How far do you think Jacory Harris will take the Miami Hurricanes, this year?
I do. This isn't a young team any more. They're loaded with athletes all over the places. It's a really fast team again. Now can they be focused and be consistent. That's a challenge for young players, but this is his second full year as the starter, I think he'll respond well.
UNA has won three in a row....and I don't think Saban and complacent belong in a sentence together....and thats the University of North Alabama...
It's a different level of football. Saban's a great coach, but so were Rockne, Switzer, Hayes, Osborne, Paterno, Bryant, etc. They didn't win three in a row either.
Three more questions...
How many teams in the Big Ten in 5 years? And who are you adding to the current 11?
Guessing here.. 16. Mizzou, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse and UCONN.
Does Reggie Bush paying off the agent more/less admit guilt in the NCAA's eyes (not that anything will be done to USC b/c the NCAA has no power)?
It certainly doesn't help the NCAA's cause that Bush won't be on the record commenting on this.
Hearing a Daniel Kaffee rant in my head as I ponder this question about what they can prove.
Ill rephrase my question. how can espn have a show on ther biggest winners and losers of round one of the draft when no one has played a game yet!!!????
Because people will watch and they'll comment on it and agree or disagree.. that is the nature of the draft and to a large degree signing day.
Could you make the arguement that Bama has the best RB (Ingram), DL (Dareus), S (Barron), WR (Julio), and LB (Hightower) in the SEC, and if they stay healthy, could all be 1st rounders in the draft next year? That would be one heckuva recruiting class if it were to happen.
You could make the argument although UGA fans would take issue with the WR point; Ole Miss fans would have a problem with the DL point; Florida may take issue with the safety comment.
was it wise for golden tate to leave ND early
He was not going to grow to be 6-1 this year so he probably wouldn't have been a top 10 guy regardless. Plus, the 2011 draft could be a lot deeper with huge WRs than this one was. Can't be more productive than he was in 2009.
Thanks for all the questions. If I didn't get to yours, send it to me via Twitter at BFeldmanESPN.
