Fantasy NASCAR with Mark Garrow

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (2:57 PM)

Good afternoon everyone...it's a great day especially for Kurt Busch...so let's get this partaaayyyy started!

SABAN (Tuscalooser, AL)

Mark, 24, 48, 17, 31, 29. Any suggestions here for the A and/or B group? Thanks! I almost forgot to post. The Jerk Store keeps me occupied, but I definately need your help! I am working on getting a statue of Gordon, JJ, Earnhardt, you, and others that deserve far more than me.

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:00 PM)

Wow...a statue of the "Guru"...that would be..uh...one ugly piece of art right there..lol...I like your picks because those are five pretty smart drivers who don't usually get themselves into a mess or start one....given the craziness of Talladega who really knows what's going to happen..but not a bad five right there.

Nick Rolando (Orlando)

Mark, the only thing more frusterating then my fantasy team at Texas are my finals next week. Anyways, I know 'Dega is a crapshoot so this is my line-up: 2-19-6-82? Thoughts on it? I just don't what to risk big-timers but still but Kurt in their b/c of his track record.

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:04 PM)

I feel your pain...at one point I was at over 830 points...and ended up with a 596...unflipping believable...Gordon and Stewart take each other out and they should have been winner and easy top-10 and maybe top-five for Stewart..Burton falls through the field at the end..Kyle Busch moves up to third and Junior falls to eighth..I wanted to stab myself in the eye with a fork!..As far as your Talladega line-up..as good as any...we might be better off picking numbers out of a hat!

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Do you think that Danica Patrick will win the New England 200 at Loudon,NH? If not Which race in the Nationwide Series will Danica Patrick getg her very first win at?

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:07 PM)

I don't think she gets her first win this year on the Nationwide Series...too much of a learning curve..I can't see her beating Kyle Busch, Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski, or Kevin Harvick at any point unless they all have problems in the same race..NH, however, should be a good track for her. I believe she ran her Indy car there so she'll be a little familiar with the track going in which is not a luxury she's had much in her short NASCAR career.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Who do you think will win the Aaron's 499?

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:08 PM)

It's wide open Chris...but a Chevy has won 18 times in the last 22 races at Talladega so you might want to start there with a Gordon or Johnson or 50 winners like Newman and Harvick.

Ryan F. (Houston)

Guru, I don't understand??? Didn't we establish over the last couple of years that we should avoid sideway Sam H. on high banked tracks. It nevers fail, I was lol when you actually gave him some love this past weekend. Sideway Sam shouldn't be considered for a decent run until the next flat track at Pocono. Where was the love for Menard this past weekend? Granted he finished behind the 77 after the wreck but had a strong car all day long, how can you discount Menard after what he's done this year in favor of the 77???

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:10 PM)

Ryan...okay let's admit right from the get go I should get 50 lashes with a wet noodle..(I have tender skin..lol) for going ga-ga for Hornish at Texas...but his car was bad fast and he knows the place really well from Indy days so I dared to be great and got burned by him again...no more I swear...really...

Mike (Provo)

Dang Mark, how can I go from 831 with 18 laps to go to in the 500's at the end? And now what have we to look forward too. What do you think, a dartboard and hope?

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:13 PM)

Mike....you're another dude who's pain I feel...I was just starting to believe I would go 800 plus when that wrecked wiped out my two top guns and it was downhill in the ceramic whirlpool after that...as I was swirling I looked heavenward and said simply "Why me?"...just before I went underwater..I might just try a dartdboard...last four races at Talladega I've picked a team only one word can describe my results...pitiful!

Ryan (Reynoldsburg,Ohio)

Is Dale Jr. Finaly Back. Also what do you think of the gordon johnson thing. As always thanks for being the best in the biz!!!

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:17 PM)

I don't think Junior is all the way back..but he's moving in the right direction..steady and nothing spectacular but that's okay...Next two weeks could be really big for him..great plate racer at Talladega and he really gets around Richmond too. As for Gordon-Johnson...it's all about Gordon knowing he's got to push Jimmie around to get back to victory lane and take a shot at fifth championship. He can't push Johnson from the mountaintop..he's got to knock him off...It's about time Gordon started hitting back in my opinion...too much nice guy in this deal..Jimmie's a great driver but it appears he might not enjoy "rubbin' racing"..

Who will drive the #12 Dodge in 2011?

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:19 PM)

When it comes to Penske in 2011..what we know is that Keselowski will drive the 2 with Miller Beer support...and Kurt Busch the 22 with sponsorhsip from Shell/Penzoil...the 12 with either be morphed into 22 team or Roger Penske could hire another driver or move Justin Allgaier up to Cup.

Daniel (Indiana)

howdy mark, how are you doing this fine Wednesday? for Dega, I am really thinking of picking some drivers that others swat away from, as this is of course a crap-shoot race. With that being said, I need you to pick four drivers from the following list: Logano, Truex, Newman, Vickers, McMurray, Ambrose, Ragan, Sadler and Reuty, and again, need 4 drivers from that list, thanks!

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:20 PM)

Doing well...thanks for asking Daniel...out of those four I'd go with McMurray, Newman, Vickers, and Sadler..and then repeat after me..."Hail Mary full of grace the Lord is with thee...."

Beth (WV)

This is the week that Roush breaks out the new engine. (Do we trust them). How is this team for the CRAP-SHOOT RACE... 14-48-2-88-29. LOVE BETH

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:23 PM)

They've run the new FR-9 engine Beth at the plate track already even last fall at Talladega...don't see that as an issue..and yes Sunday's race is a CRAPSHOOT...It's also a crap race because when there's a wreck millions of people around the country will scream "crap" because their driver has been sucked into the big one...your team is as good as any other...all smart guys but can they stay out of someone else's trouble?....back at ya...

Aaron (Texas)

How do you got them ranked this weekend? i think this is the week that jr end his streak and wins!

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:25 PM)

It's almost impossible to rank the drivers this week..I'll take a stab at it in just a bit though...Junior could win this weekend..he'll be fast and he's done it a time or two before at Talladega..thing is back then there was a mystique around him and everyone in the pack wanted to draft with him or help him..I don't think that's the case anymore...

RAY GORDON REID ( OPELIKA ALABAMA 36801)

QUESTION TO MARK GURU GARROW AT 3.25 PM GOOD WEDNESDAYGURU WHO DOES THE TALLADEGA GURU HAve FOR TALLADEGA SUNDAY

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:28 PM)

Ray Gordon..my man good to hear from you as always..What do I have for Talladega?...usually I have a double dose of heartbreak...lol...how about Gordon or Junior Sunday how about that?

Paul (West Orange)

Guru - Love your chats....88, 1, 2 or 31 this week?

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:29 PM)

I think the 88 will be as good as anyone this week..has a little "MO"...2,1,31 should also be pretty good...most people don't realize Burton has been what tenth, fourth and fifth in last three at Talladega..

Norm (palm springs ca)

Good afternoon Guru, Not that the 11 has gone 500 miles and came up with a W, what do you think of him this week?

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:30 PM)

Hamlin will have no physical problems in the car he can't handle that's for sure..just will need a little luck like everyone else.

Joe's Wife (FL)

Hey Guru!! I allowed my husband to 'team up' with me this year..and my teams have taken a dump! So my question is, should I a) dump the teammate or b) trade him for my invisible friend?

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:34 PM)

Look this fantasy racing stuff is serious business...if the boy ain't cutting it, he's got to be cut loose. You can't let him drag you so far down a hole even the "Guru" can't get you dug out right?...Do it like the Italians...Fix him his favorite supper...a nice dessert...then when you're pouring the after dinner coffee....that's when you let him have it.....then figuratively not literally put him in the trunk of your car and let your invisible friend drive him out to a secluded area...lol...

Andrew L (NJ)

Hey Guru, I know Talladega is a crapshoot, but do you think Menard could be a contender? He's always run well here and finished 2nd back in the '08 fall race.

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:34 PM)

He's running smart this year I'll certainly give him that..so that gives him a shot to do well at Talladega....

Joey (Tampa, FL)

Mark, Top 25 prerace or should I say pre the big one?

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:38 PM)

Joey...going to work on that right now..be right back in a few moments everyone...

dave (fl)

guru hows this line up 2-29-17-98 with 18-31-33-43 on bench

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:55 PM)

Not bad...I might want to think about 33 instead of 17...but I can live Kenseth because there are no "good" line-ups for Talladega...just golden horseshoe lucky one..lol..

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (3:55 PM)

I can live with that...and may now the "force" be with you.

Richard (California)

GURU, Our lineups were close last week(I had 14,not 24),and since its 'Dega I'm thinking of standing pat, except for swapping out 18 for a chevy. Thoughts? Thanks as always.

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (4:01 PM)

Chevy has been the big hitter at Talladega for quite some time like I pointed out earlier ..18 wins last 22 races..so not a bad bet..I wound up at Texas with 24,14,18,31 and 88...could have been great if not for the last 20 laps...

Ken (Hendersonville)

I see that Rootman and MWR just signed a new deal but I wonder if Rootman inserted a penalty clause on MWR if an engine gives out. Can MWR produce an engine that has an excellent percentage chance of finishing the race?

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (4:04 PM)

Good question...at the Alliance Airport about to fly back Monday night on the Roush Fenway 727...I talked with Reutimann and he was so low he could scratch the belly of a pregnant snake.. and the engines were definitely on his mind..I see him re-signing with MWR..but someone has to get a tighter grip on their engines for sure...a little bad luck too since he's been hit three times already this season..

Mark "Guru" Garrow
  (4:08 PM)

Got to run everybody...don't forget Sunday morning our race day chat will be at 10:30 eastern..until then have a great week..."The Guru has left the building!"
