Chat with Jeremy Green

Jeremy Green
  (2:03 PM)

Hello all... draft countdown has started and as we are closing in on day one.

Steve (Wisconsin)

Is E Berry worth a top 5 pick, and do you see anyone trading up with the skins to land him at the 4th overall pick at this weeks draft?

Jeremy Green
  (2:06 PM)

I think he is definitely worth a top five pick. That said I don't know that I see a team trading up to take him. He reminds me in a lot of ways of a young Rod Woodson.

Marc (City of Brotherly Love)

Happy Green Day!!!!! Where have you been hiding at Jeremy? Which is crazier? The Eagles brass saying they are not rebuilding or McNabb lobbying for TO in DC? Great to have you back buddy!!!

Jeremy Green
  (2:07 PM)

Probably McNabb lobbying for TO in Washington. Sounds bizzare but he is right in that at least on the field he would fill a void in the offense.

Ryan (San Diego)

JG!!!!!!!!!! Whats up bro...been a while hope things are well. What are your thoughts on potential picks at 28 for SD? I traded down to 37 in exchange for the 70th pick in our Super Fan mock but was really tempted to take Mathews.

Jeremy Green
  (2:10 PM)

Hey Ryan. I think if San Diego sticks and stays they will take Matthews. I think they would like to trade back into the top of the second round and take the NT Cody from Alabama as he would be a slight reach at the bottom of the first round.

Marc (City of Brotherly Love)

Who do you think will be the movers and shakers in this draft?

Jeremy Green
  (2:11 PM)

In the first round I would say keep an eye on the Seahawks... they have two picks in the top 15.

Scott (Dallas)

McShay has Haden falling to the Texans, but beyond the fact that he'd never make it past the Steelers in the first place, how likely is it that he slips that much?

Blake (Abilene, TX)

JG, are the Clevland Browns eyeing Colt McCoy in the seconed Round?

Jeremy Green
  (2:13 PM)

That is a possibility if they do not trade up to try to get Bradford... I have heard they are not as high on Clausen... kind of have their eyes set on Bradford or MccOy.

karl (new jersey)

Any thoughts on the rumors of the Jets dumping Fanaca after the draft? Doesnt seem to make a lick of sense to me.

Jeremy Green
  (2:14 PM)

I would never say never and I guess it would depend on how their draft goes, but I don't see that happening as he is still a player whom is playing at a high level.

Anthony (Sutton, MA)

Can Torry Holt offer NE anything this season? I have to imagine he'll make us forget about the Joey Galloway experiment...

Jeremy Green
  (2:15 PM)

He is not going to stir up and Randy Moss comparisons but he is a better fit in the offense then Galloway is and gives them a guy who can average 3-5 catches a game to take pressure off other guys in the offense.

MArk (Tennessee)

Do you agree with Jerry that Free is the answer...woudl love to see teh boys take a LT or trade for GAither

Jeremy Green
  (2:16 PM)

I do not agree with that... I think Free is even a question mark at RT... he has not shown anything that makes me believe to this point that he can hold down a starting LT spot in the NFL

Josh (Hudsonville, MI)

Do you see the Lions taking Suh with the 2nd pick? And if left tackle is such a need for them, then why didn't they draft Michael Oher last year with the 20th pick over Michael Pettigrew?

Jeremy Green
  (2:17 PM)

Great question Josh... while OT is a need DT is clearly the bigger need and I do think Suh will be the pick... they will get a tackle in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Josh (MI)

Suh or Mccoy? who woul you take?

Jeremy Green
  (2:18 PM)

I think the Lions will take Suh... personally I would take McCoy.. I think there is a little more one and two gap versatility with him.

Craig G. (Fairfield, California)

JG! I truly miss you on YOUR Football Today podcast. Will you be back in the near future or do you have a new role with ESPN?

Jeremy Green
  (2:21 PM)

Thanks Craig... I miss it as well but you will not see me on ESPN Football today.

Mike (San Diego)

JG, thoughts on Ginn to the 49ers? Does even "stretching the field" help if you can't catch the ball? I've been told it doesn't matter if a WR can't catch, as long as he stretches the field, that's a good thing. Can you explain this to me?

Jeremy Green
  (2:23 PM)

I like the trade from the standpoint that he is still young. Expectations were high in Miami and a change of scenery could be what he needs. He had trouble meeting expectations in Miami and they are less in San Francisco... while it would help ifhe had better hands, stretching the field will open up Gore in the run game and Morgan and Davis in the passing game.

Huggy Bear (Bay City)

Please rank the big 4 QBs (Bradford, McCoy, Clausen, Tebow) in terms of overall talent and ability to make an impact for a team quickly.

Jeremy Green
  (2:23 PM)

Bradford, Calusen, McCoy, Tebow

Lane (Kukuihaele, HI)

I'd take Suh. I think he's got a better work ethic.

Jeremy Green
  (2:24 PM)

I agree there is a little more bust potential with McCoy... there is also more boom potential if he is the real deal.

Scott (Dallas)

McShay has Haden falling to the Texans, but beyond the fact that he'd never make it past the Steelers in the first place, how likely is it that he slips that much?

Jeremy Green
  (2:25 PM)

Hey Scott... don't see him falling that far... I don't see him going past the Steelers.

RJ (Boston)

J,Is it safe to say, we've seen the end of the Coach / GM role filled by one man trend?

Jeremy Green
  (2:28 PM)

We have seen the end of it for now... the league runs in trends though so I think even though we are more away from it now it could always change in the future.

Bill (Washington, DC)

Jeremy, from the Lions' perceptive, how do you feel about the Ernie Sims trade?

Jeremy Green
  (2:28 PM)

I don't really like it. If you throw out last years injury plagued season he was a tackling machine at the WLB position. This was a solid move for the Eagles.

Matt (Miami)

What do you see the Saints doing in the first round if Weatherspoon is unavailable? Do they reach for Daryl Washington or try to trade down?

Jeremy Green
  (2:30 PM)

I think if Spoon is gone they take Washington... I think moving down is a possibility as the bottom of the first round teams often can move back easily because teams at the top of the 2nd round have a player that dropped who they had rated high on their board.

Mike (Boca Raton)

What is your take on Iupoti? He's gotten a lot of good pub, but I've also heard some say that he got beaten up at the Senior Bowl.

Jeremy Green
  (2:32 PM)

I think he is a real solid prospect. He took a few lumps at the Senior bowl early as some of the guys he saw were a step up in competition because he did not see that level of player at idaho, but he got better as the week went on.

Marc (City of Brotherly Love)

Can Tim Tebow actually be a successful QB in the NFL?

Jeremy Green
  (2:34 PM)

I am still not a beleiver.. I don't see him ever developing into a number one QB at the NFL level.

Lane (Kukuihaele,HI)

What do you usually watch on Thursday night? Will the draft beat out the shows on the major networks?

Jeremy Green
  (2:35 PM)

I am sure it will... my wife usually has on Flash Forward and Greys Anatomy...

Michael (Tampa)

Do you think the Dolphins might draft CJ spiller and try to unload Ronnie Brown?

Jeremy Green
  (2:37 PM)

I know they are a little unhappy with Browns off the field transgression but I think he has handled it well. I just don't see Spiller on the board...

Justin (Madison, WI)

Have you heard what the probability is on the Packers moving up to 10-12? I don't think the price would be worth it for one of the top OT available...

Jeremy Green
  (2:38 PM)

I thought this was a trick question... the packers moving up? Can't see it... they are notorious for stick and staying or moving back

Jeremy Green
  (2:38 PM)

I thought this was a trick question... the packers moving up? Can't see it... they are notorious for stick and staying or moving back

RK (Motown)

You think Zack Follet may be a possibly replacement for Ernie Sims or you see the lions sign Keith Bullock?

Jeremy Green
  (2:39 PM)

I think right now Follet... not sure how healthy Bulluck is right now... that ACL injury came late in the season.

phil (denver)

isn't denver and green bay swap of 1st rd picks perfect for both teams ? Denver gets pouncey and an extra 2 and packers get an OT.

Jeremy Green
  (2:42 PM)

Makes sense.. Packers need the OT but they rarely trade up.

Marc (City of Brotherly Love)

Here's the million dollar question JG. Is Kolb the real deal?

Jeremy Green
  (2:44 PM)

I would have a million dollars if I could answer that question... I think he shows signs of being the real deal but I still wonder if the exerience factor does not catch up with him at some point. He is going to need some time to develop with reps.

Mike (Detroit)

Ernie Sims made a lot of tackles, but that was in a different scheme, and he posted the following totals in four years in Detroit: 1 INT, 4 forced fumbles, 2.5 sacks. Wouldn't that suggest that he's just a guy at OLB, and that he's not very hard to replace? He certainly wasn't a playmaker in Detroit.

Jeremy Green
  (2:46 PM)

I am writing something about this for tomorrow but I think if you look back at those first 3-years the big plays were lacking because the Lions were so vanilla on defense.

Steve Law (Philly)

who is the raiders planning to take with their 1st draft pick?

Jeremy Green
  (2:49 PM)

Trying to figure out the Raiders draft is like a jigsaw puzzle with an infinite number of pieces. Trent Williams makes sense so they will probably go in another direction

TOPSKINSFAN (Y-TOWN, OHIO)

DO YOU THINK HASLETT WILL BE ABLE TO COACH A TOP 10 DEFENSE FOR THE SKINS, OR WILL I STILL BE PISSED THAT WE DIDN'T HIRE MIKE NOLAN ?

Jeremy Green
  (2:50 PM)

You will be pissed.

Anthony (NYC)

JG if the Seahawks were to draft Bryant with the 14th pick, how questionable would that move be given the fact that they could've had Marshall instead with that pick?

Jeremy Green
  (2:51 PM)

Great call Anthony... hope they go Spiller and then Bryant and get two weapons in a division where scoring points is a must. Have to agree however, that passing on Marshall to take a rookie at the toughest position in the NFL to develop could come back to haunt them.

Mike (Charlotte)

In your opinion was it smart for the panthers to stay with john fox rather than moving on and putting Bill Cowher on the sideline?

Jeremy Green
  (2:52 PM)

I think we will find out after the season. I am a big John Fox fan and am glad he is getting another year but if they are not a playoff team I think it would be time to move on and Cowher would be in the mix.

Taylor (Oregon)

Where will LeGarrette Blount go? Yeah he punched a guy... but he has a crazy amount of upside to drafting him

Jeremy Green
  (2:53 PM)

Good call... some point in Day 3... Maybe the 5th or 6th... someone takes the flier... I agree on the upside.

Ryan (San Diego)

I personally think Gerhart will be terrible in the NFL and I'm praying the Chargers dont draft him. He runs too upright and wont be able to run over NFL linebackers. What do you think of him?

Jeremy Green
  (2:54 PM)

Have to agree a little there. I just don't think he can make enough people miss at the next level.

Mark (Wyoming)

You don't have a million dollars?

Jeremy Green
  (2:54 PM)

No... and if I did I would probably still owe the IRS money... OK... it wasn't that bad but you get my point.

jeff (MASS)

hey jermey do you think the pats will draft a solid prospect or do you think they will trade down again?

Jeremy Green
  (2:57 PM)

I don't know that they trade back this year... they have a lot of holes to fill and 4 picks in the first 53. They need a veratile TE... Grehsam is the likely pick

Jeremy Green
  (2:59 PM)

OK guys... thanks for all the great questions... I will see you back here in my new time slot... Monday's at 2 PM... Catch you after draft weekend when we can break down what went down in the Draft.
