Chat with Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
  (10:15 PM)

Greetings Fight Freaks! I'm back for a special edition of Rafael After Dark. They're going to the cards in Froch-Kessler. We can chat for the next hour or so and then I'll take a break and watch the HBO fights and then I'll be back after to discuss those bouts as well. Let's get to it Freaks!

Dan Rafael
  (10:15 PM)

Here we go, scores are in.

Dan Rafael
  (10:15 PM)

Here we go, scores are in.

Dan Rafael
  (10:16 PM)

117-111, 115-113, 116-112. Winner by unanimous decision and new W** super middleweight titlist Mikkel Kesser!

Dan Rafael
  (10:16 PM)

117-111, 115-113, 116-112. Winner by unanimous decision and new W** super middleweight titlist Mikkel Kesser!

Brian (Little Rock)

Does the 12th rd get round of the year consideration?

Dan Rafael
  (10:16 PM)

117-111, 115-113, 116-112. Winner by unanimous decision and new W** super middleweight titlist Mikkel Kesser!

Dan Rafael
  (10:16 PM)

Wow, that was a tremendous round! And now the tourney is very tight with four guys being 1-1 in the tourney, Ward 1-0 and Green yet to fight.

Dan Rafael
  (10:16 PM)

Wow, that was a tremendous round! And now the tourney is very tight with four guys being 1-1 in the tourney, Ward 1-0 and Green yet to fight.

Ned (Hartford, CT)

Welcome to RAD, and as always, there is a two drink minimum. James Kirkland is still in jail. Dan doesn't hate Floyd, he just wants him to beat someone before he declares himself the greatest of all time. Banishment is like mogwai, you don't want to see what happens if you feed him after midnight, so keep the stupid questions to yourselves

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

Wow, that 12th round was almost like Corrales-Castillo minus the knockdowns.

Dan Rafael
  (10:18 PM)

Let's not get carried away my Freak brother. But great round.

Dan (Pittsburgh)

Kessler didn't just outbox Froch. To my surpise he actually outgutted him down the stretch.

Greg (VA)

great fight, but someone needs to calm Gus down.

Dan Rafael
  (10:18 PM)

Impossible.

Jake (Arl Hts, Il)

WOW!!! What a way to start the night!!!

Dan Rafael
  (10:18 PM)

And I think it's just going to get better.

Jake (Arl Hts, Il)

Danny Boy, How did Bernstein have this a draw after 11, with no knockdowns? How did you dcore the 11th?

Dan Rafael
  (10:19 PM)

He probably had an even round in there somewhere. I have the 11th to Kessler. And I scored the fighty 115-113 for Kessler.

Tyler B. (Tupelo,MS.)

Danimal!!!!! whats up buddy. Just got done watchin the third episode of 24/7 and I have to say that I'm not tired of floyds trash talk, but I am tired of the relentless hip hop music.

Dan Rafael
  (10:20 PM)

I haven't watched it yet. But it's on the DVR.

Dan Rafael
  (10:20 PM)

I'm still thinking about how damn close this Super Six is. All bunched up. I'm loving it.

miguel (los angeles)

Dan if dirrell and froch are tied at the end of the tournament is head to head the tie breaker?

Dan Rafael
  (10:20 PM)

I believe so, head to head would break a tie.

Dan Rafael
  (10:20 PM)

I believe so, head to head would break a tie.

Scott (Bloomington, MN)

Hey Dan, Great start to the night, how long does Kessler need to recover from that cut, especially considering this is the 2nd fight in a row that it has opened up?

Dan Rafael
  (10:21 PM)

It looked pretty bad, but he's not going to fight again at least until the fall, when he's due to face Green in the third round.

Eric (Omaha)

How did you score it Dan?

Dan Rafael
  (10:21 PM)

As I said, 115-113 for Kessler.

Ray (LA)

I thought Froch took it. landed the harder punches. close fight though.

Christopher Carrasco (Roswell NM)

Best fight of the super six so far

Dan Rafael
  (10:22 PM)

Agreed. Started a tad technical, got rolling in the middle rounds and finished with great action. Loved it.

Jesse (El Mirage, AZ)

Man has Showtime nailed it with this super 6 or what? This tournament, every fight has been awesome

Dan Rafael
  (10:22 PM)

I don't agree with that at all as far as every fight being great, but overall I have really enjoyed the tournament.

Aaron (Hartford)

Dan.... interesting scenario in this tournament. Allen Green loses to Ward, then fights Kessler and wins..... gets the WBC title and doesnt move on in the tournament...

Dan Rafael
  (10:23 PM)

Very possible. And if Green wins and then beats Kessler it is also possible he would not move on as a unified champion.

Frank (Boston)

117-111? Froch said it best, they were never gonna give him that fight. I think Mikkel won, but that score is bogus.

Dan Rafael
  (10:24 PM)

It is what it is. Froch lost a close fight.

Eric (Omaha)

Has there been any announcement as to where the Super Six final will be? Will it depend on who is in the finals?

Dan Rafael
  (10:24 PM)

It's supposed to be in America, but no specific site yet.

Aaron (Hartford)

First thing Kessler should do wih his paycheck from tonight is buy his mom some new teeth... .holy lord...

Charles (Philly)

Froch is pretty classy.

Dan Rafael
  (10:24 PM)

He did show some class. I appreciate that attitude.

Dan Rafael
  (10:25 PM)

By the Freaks, as I was told by the home office in Bristol, not only was Friday's chat the longest ever boxing chat at 5:26, I was told that it was also the sixth-longest chat in ESPN.com history and I thank all the Fight Freaks for your participation.

Cesar (New Jersey)

Dan, you've talked to Floyd before. Can he talk about anything else besides how much money he has or how great he is?

Dan Rafael
  (10:26 PM)

Believe it or not, yes. I have talked to Floyd about his kids and stuff like that. When he wants to tone it down, Floyd is able to do so.

Dan Rafael
  (10:26 PM)

Believe it or not, yes. I have talked to Floyd about his kids and stuff like that. When he wants to tone it down, Floyd is able to do so.

Justin (Springfield, NJ)

Dan: Why was the Kessler *slip* ignored? We never saw the replay, and it seems like there was a real chance that it was actually a knockdown.

Dan Rafael
  (10:26 PM)

They showed a replay and it was "ignored" because it was a slip with no real punch landing.

Dan Rafael
  (10:26 PM)

They showed a replay and it was "ignored" because it was a slip with no real punch landing.

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

I know it's looking WAY ahead, but Abraham-Froch has some serious potential.

Dan Rafael
  (10:27 PM)

You're right. I think Kessler-Green can also be pretty interesting in the third round.

Jake (Arl Hts,IL)

George "The Danimal" Steele,If Allan Greene wins this, does my pick of Jermain Taylor winning it still count?

Dan Rafael
  (10:28 PM)

My executive ruling is NO.

Bryant (Pitt)

Dan just from watching 24/7 it really seems Rock Allen is childish...is this why is progression has been turtle like?

Dan Rafael
  (10:28 PM)

He has been out because of a bad shoulder injury.

ztrain (oxford,ma)

dan wish showtime had a compubox and i felt froch just gave the first half of the fight away and kessler did a great job to the body had it 116-112

Dan Rafael
  (10:29 PM)

I would also love to see Showtime have CompuBox, but they don't. HBO pays a premium to have CompuBox exclusive for premium cable and I don't see that changing any time soon.

giuseppe (bucks)

danm long live the super 6! no way we get these exotic match ups at such a high level without it.

Dan Rafael
  (10:29 PM)

You are absolutely right, so a tip of the cap to Ken Hershman and the promoters and fighters who made it happen.

Horn (Vegas)

The great thing about the super six is that three fighters have lost undefeated records and it's not at all damaging because of the opposition faced. Floyd should take notes.

Robert (Cambridge, MA)

When did Antonio Tarver become a four-time world champion? Freakin' Showtime...

Dan Rafael
  (10:31 PM)

I was thinking that when I heard that. I count him as a three-time guy.

Greg (Los Angeles)

Any updates on Angulo's situation? Was yesterday a weight issue or is he having problems with Shaw?

Dan Rafael
  (10:32 PM)

Gary called me last night and insisted the only reason Angulo was late to the weigh in was because he got stuck in traffic because of an accident.

Ed (Dayton)

Dan, who is your favorite now in the super middleweight tourny? The leader seems to change weekly?

Dan Rafael
  (10:33 PM)

You know what? Who the hell knows. It changes with every fight. It's changed five times so far. I said all along when the field was announced that I could honestly see any of the guys winning it except Taylor, and now Taylor is out. At this exact monent, I still think Ward can win it all because he has the combination of skills, speed and power. But who knows? That's why this thing is so great.

Steve (Walla Walla, WA)

If the Green doesn't advance as a unified champion as you mentioned, then the final of the super six can be for the Diamond belt so no worries!

Dan Rafael
  (10:33 PM)

Don't remind me.

miguel (los angeles)

dont you love it how many time they were showing carls wife and trying to make it seem like they were just showing her because she was concern instead of the real reason why.

Dan Rafael
  (10:34 PM)

As far as I am concerned they didn't show her enough.

Justin (Springfield, NJ)

How great is it that we have 2 more solid fights tonight?

Dan Rafael
  (10:35 PM)

Not to mention Arce fights in a little bit. I have that card on the TV now.

Kool KC (DeLand, Fl)

Find it kind of hard to listen to Froch complain about hometown scoring. Many, including myself, feel the only reason he still had a title is because of homecooking against Dirrell.

Dan Rafael
  (10:35 PM)

Stat of the nigth: Hometown fighters are 5-0 in the tournament so far.

Dave (PA)

Dan, in the previous 24/7, they showed the back-and-forth on the conference call about Floyd taking injections in his hands. Ellerbe dismissed it as a rumor. From what you know, has Floyd taken hand injections and/or continue to do so?

Dan Rafael
  (10:36 PM)

As far as I know, Floyd most certainly has taken injections in the past. He said so in a post-fight interview with Larry Merchat years ago. I believe after the Jesus Chavez or Carlos Hernandez fight. Does he still do it? I have no idea. He says now.

Bryant (Pitt)

The old 24/7 Floyd had Rolls Royce and Bentley but now an Escalade and Porsche? What happend 'Money'???

Dan Rafael
  (10:36 PM)

New 24/7, new car! I think that's the same Escalade I rode in one a couple of years ago. Pretty sweet ride.

Bryant (Pitt)

Adamek KO 4, Julio UD on record

Bryant (Pitt)

The Love Child?????

Dan Rafael
  (10:37 PM)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child.

Wilson (South NJ)

Dan, How did you score the first 4 rounds? I think 1 and 2 could have gone to Froch he landed the harder punches.

Dan Rafael
  (10:38 PM)

I had it even after the first four rounds. I gave Froch 1 and 4 and Kessler 2 and 3.

Joe (Ny)

Dan what is Arreola weight at tonight ?

Dan Rafael
  (10:38 PM)

He was 250 1/2 at the weigh in. When he gets in the ring tonight figure he'll be a few more pounds.

allen (Boston)

Dan: I'm a bit confused. How does Jimmy Lennon Junior make his way to Denmark yet the three Showtime guys can't find their way. Was Showtime trying to save some bucks.

Dan Rafael
  (10:40 PM)

It wasn't just getting the announcers there. It was an entire support staff. Showtime wound up having Jimmy, photograpgher Tom "International King" Casino, Steve Farhood, PR person Chris DeBlasio and a few folks from the Fight Camp 360 show. Not nearly an entire crew to produce a telecast. They wound up using the feed from the Danish network.

Lou (Detroit)

The super six is so competitive, I get the sense that tiebreakers are going to end up playing a major factor.

Dan Rafael
  (10:41 PM)

Very well could be, but there are still four fights left before they seed the semis. If Abraham, for example, wins his next fight by a knockout he is definitely in the semis. A couple of knockouts for other guys and we could see some separation in the scores.

Robert the Genius (Greater Philly / Southern NJ)

My streak is over Rafael, stop hating.

Dan Rafael
  (10:41 PM)

Welcome back my man.

Kent (St Catharines)

Sixth longest chat in ESPN history is pretty cool, however isn't that like winning an IBU title? We want the ESPN Ring Championship belt. Better start training Dan as the freaks want their title shot.

Dan Rafael
  (10:42 PM)

Hey, I had no idea it was 6th longest until they told me. I didn't even know for sure if it was the longest boxing chat, although I sorta thought it was at least close. So one of these days I may make a bid for the record, which I am told is about 13 hours. If the Freaks are up for it, I may go for it.

ram (elizabeth, nj)

i was disappointed when al said that rachel is pregnant. anyways shes still hot

Dan Rafael
  (10:43 PM)

LOL! You and the rest of the Western world.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Dan,After reading about the record breaking chat from yesterday NOT being the all-time chat champ I was wondering if you know who was and what sport?

Dan Rafael
  (10:43 PM)

Not sure. I just know it was like 13 hours.

Bryant (Pitt)

Robert Guerrero vs Jorge Linares.....Gotta nice ring to it?

Dan Rafael
  (10:44 PM)

Very interesting fight. I think it could be possible at some point since they are both with Golden Boy, but at the moment Robert is at lightweight and Linares still at jr. lightweight.

Bryant (Pitt)

Dan if the chat goes 13 hours i can promise 200+ questions/comments from me!

Dan Rafael
  (10:44 PM)

Thanks for the support!

Christopher Carrasco (Roswell NM)

Angulo vs the Love Child has fireworks written all over it can't wair

Dan Rafael
  (10:45 PM)

It should. I am also really looking forward to it, but torn about it.

Charles (DFW)

Do you know what would happen if, by some quirk, there was a 4-way tie and the head-to-heads washed out so that it stayed that way? Another round of tiebreaker fights?

Dan Rafael
  (10:46 PM)

I think like the NFL, it would ultimately come down to a coin flip if all other tiebreakers were exhausted.

Jake (AH, IL)

13 hours would be so sick!!Freaks, agree?

Matt (Nashville)

DAN!!! Other than mosley-mayweather, what upcoming fight are you looking forward to most

Dan Rafael
  (10:48 PM)

I'm looking forward to Foreman-Cotto, but mainly for the Yankee Stadium aspect to it.

JJD (Seattle)

Big thumbs DOWN, DOWN, DOWN to HBO for showing the BAD card on delay for the west coast, meaning I have to watch it in standard def. C'mon, HBO!

Dan Rafael
  (10:48 PM)

BAD has always been on delay since the show debuted in 1996. Deal.

dan (oxford,ma)

dan what rematch would you rather see kessler froch or dirrell abraham

Dan Rafael
  (10:49 PM)

Definitely Kessler-Froch. Dirrell-Abraham was a one-sided fight.

Kool KC (DeLand, Fl)

Angulo KO in 6, Cristobal KO inside 8

John (Tulsa, OK)

Word to the Super Six: the decisions are going to the fighters who PRESS the action.

Dan Rafael
  (10:49 PM)

Not just the Super Six.

ilovepat2010 (Georgetown, Texas)

Do you think that Colt McCoy should've gone in the 2nd round?

Dan Rafael
  (10:50 PM)

What weight class is he in?

kevin (Lynn,mass)

D.R. love reading your columns and your honesty my question is of course about the Mosley vs mayweather, this is the real test for mayweather and my man Mosley has proven to be one of the greats do you see Mosley breaking him down during the middle rounds and realing mayweather into his fight? Mosley can take a punch but I really don't think mayweather can take Mosley's punching power.

Dan Rafael
  (10:51 PM)

Mayweather may very well not be able to take the power, we don't know. But it will be up to Shane to find a way to deliver it. Shane's a terrific puncher at welterweight, but Mayweather is fast and has superb defense. IF (I said IF) Mosley can tag Mayweather clean with those shots, he has the power to knock Mayweather out. But nobody has really landed clean on Floyd for 40 fights. We'll see what happens.

Vincent (Vancouver, WA)

Dtm,Have you ever interviewed MM Hagler? What's your opinion of him in regards to the all-time Middleweights? How far up the top do you have him?

Dan Rafael
  (10:52 PM)

I've never interviewed him for a story or anything, but I worked on a fight with him for television. He was part of our team in Las Vegas covering Hopkins-Wright. It was a real pleasure to just sit and hang with him between our takes and talk boxing with him. It's one of the highlights of my career.

Dan Rafael
  (10:52 PM)

Jonny (Fallbrook,CA)

DTM, What is up Angulo getting fined $15,000 for showing up late. Is it true that Angulo showed up late because of the lack of promotion of the co-main event?

Dan Rafael
  (10:53 PM)

He was fined because he was late and that is something within the commission's power. As for the reason, his promoter, Gary Shaw, maintains that he was late because he was stuck in traffic due to an accident, making it the most expensive ticket ever.

Chris (Bmore)

I think Froch won by 2 points. He slipped most of what Kessler dished out. But he did let him off the hook a few times.

Dan Rafael
  (10:54 PM)

Of all the Freaks who sent in their scores and options of the decisions, you're the only one I have seen so far that believes Froch won.

Robert the Genius (Greater Philly / Southern NJ)

Danimal its good to be back! I had it 116-113 for Froch and gave Kessler the last round! I dont think there was room to see other wise. Your thoughts?

Dan Rafael
  (10:55 PM)

Of all the Freaks who sent in their scores and options of the decisions, you're the only one I have seen so far that believes Froch won.

Dan Rafael
  (10:55 PM)

I think you are the second person who had Froch. I disagree with your score. How did you get 116-113, have an even round?

Bryant (Pitt)

Dan with Aydin/Collazo off do you think we may get to see Aydin/Zaveck any time soon? Who would you favor in that fight?

Dan Rafael
  (10:56 PM)

My understanding is that Randall Bailey's team was contacted about possible fighting Aydin.

NYPD (NYC)

Win or lose, Froch is one tough hombre.

David (Cape Canaveral, Fl.)

If you beat the all-time chat rtecord,..will you agree to be drug tested?

Dan Rafael
  (10:57 PM)

Sure.

J IN FLA (Merritt Island)

If Mayweather schools Mosley does he get credit from the boxing press for beating a top fighter or will Mosley then be considered too old or shot.

Dan Rafael
  (10:57 PM)

If Mayweather wins clean I will be the first to give Floyd his proper credit.

Dave (NJ)

Any word on who is replacing Antonio Escalante's main event for the next Friday Night Fight show?

Dan Rafael
  (10:58 PM)

My understanding is that Golden Boy wants to move the show out of San Antonio and is trying to make a new main event.

Brendan (Philadelphia)

I guess Robert will never be known as "Robert the Mathematician".

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

Klit-Haye isn't worth of HBO?

Dan Rafael
  (10:59 PM)

I thought it was in reference to Klitschko-Sosnowski. I mixed up my Klitschkos.

Christopher Carrasco (Roswell NM)

Hey Dan good teaching the sole reason I got a Dish was because of Boxing After Dark. I got tired of my Uncle calling me and telling me who won the fight on BAD. Come on fight fans.

Dapper D (New York)

I want to go to the Cotto fight and Yuriman fight but I'm working on a fixed budget. I never been to a fight before, is it worth going to the fight even though the seats aren't primo? Will I be able to see the action?

Dan Rafael
  (11:01 PM)

I have no idea where you will be sitting, but it's at a baseball stadium. The seats ought to be decent. It's not like they are putting people in all the seats. There will be an area where the fight fans are seated out in right field and in the outfield sections there.

Juan Manuel Marquez (Bathroom)

Relax, it's just yellow gatorade.

Dan Rafael
  (11:01 PM)

The Marquez urine jokes never get old.

Dan Rafael
  (11:01 PM)

The Marquez urine jokes never get old.

Mark (Minneapolis)

Oh course re-watched Mosley-Marg fight last night. That performance by Mosley still makes my jaw drop, total butt-whoopin' to the highest degree.

Courtney (Atlanta)

I actually thought Froch won by 2 points. But I could easily see it being a draw or Kessler winning by 2.

Scott (Bloomington, MN)

Hey Dan, Is Donaire vs Darchinyan 2 any closer to being finalized?

Dan Rafael
  (11:02 PM)

As far as I know it's still the same as before -- some issues over Filipino TV rights is holding it up.

Jim Lampley (In Bed)

Bang!

Bryant (Pitt)

Dan if Adamek does prevail might we see Adamek/Povetkin this year?

Dan Rafael
  (11:04 PM)

Very unlikely. Povetkin is a mandatory. He's not going to tangle with Adamek (or Arreola) and risk that status.

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

From what I hear, Angulo looked like dog doo-doo at the weigh in. Drained as hell.

Dan Rafael
  (11:04 PM)

That is what I have heard as well, and I saw photos in which he looked very drawn.

Joe (Stamford, CT)

Excellent fight. Looking forward to two more. What do you think Adamek's tactics will be? Does he stay on the outside early, and look to take Arreola deep into the fight? I know he's a come-forward action fighter, but that would seem to be the way to play it against a guy who's got questionable stamina.

Dan Rafael
  (11:05 PM)

I think we will see Adamek look to box and move as best as he can. He's not going to stand in front of him. I think he'll try to get his jab going and move a little side to side and if he possibly can, get deep on the inside and try to rip the body.

Nate (Miami)

Dan I went out and got my 50 inch Flat screen surround sound, a case of beer and a fat joint, now i got RAD you are the MAN DAN

Dan Rafael
  (11:06 PM)

We here at ESPN do not endorse the use of illegal substances, but congrats on the brews and TV.

Charles (Philly)

Attention, Freaks: the Arce fight is about to start on Fox Sports en Espanol.

Charles (DFW)

Marquez oughta spike Jose Sulaiman's lemonade.

Dario (CA)

Count me in as those who had Froch winning (7-5), even though I was rooting for Kessler. He landed the cleaner punches IMO.

Dean (Camdenton, Missouri)

Angulo drained? WAAAAAARRRRR Love Child!!!!

Dan Rafael
  (11:07 PM)

We shall see. Angulo is a very likable fighter as well. I just hope it's a great fight.

chuzen (st. louis)

dan, that 13 hour chat record falls tonight

Dan Rafael
  (11:07 PM)

I promise you it doesn't.

Charles (DFW)

Quick Dan, I'm getting off at the airport. Is it the red zone or the white zone?

Dan Rafael
  (11:08 PM)

The white zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the red zone.

Dan Rafael
  (11:09 PM)

No, the white zone is for loading of passengers and there is no stopping in a RED zone.

Dan Rafael
  (11:09 PM)

The red zone has always been for loading and unloading of passengers. There's never stopping in a white zone.

Scott (Bloomington, MN)

For the record I had it 7-5 for Kessler. In a close fight I give it to the aggressor.

Adrian (Chicago)

Why don't you stay on and give us a round by round during the fight? No HBO here at school.

Dan Rafael
  (11:11 PM)

Nope, I wanna watch it on my couch. No offense.

Berndawg (CHI)

May/Mos going over a million PPV buys?

Dan Rafael
  (11:11 PM)

Easily.

Kent (St Catharines)

Ok now I am confused about the white zone, red zone and which is which. lol

Dan Rafael
  (11:13 PM)

Don't you tell me which zone is for loading, and which zone is for stopping!

Dan Rafael
  (11:13 PM)

Listen Betty, don't start up with your white zone sh** again.

Dan Rafael
  (11:13 PM)

Male announcer: There's just no stopping in a white zone. Female announcer: Oh really, Vernon? Why pretend, we both know perfectly well what this is about. You want me to have an abortion. Male announcer: It's really the only sensible thing to do, if its done safely. Therapeutically there's no danger involved.

Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
  (11:13 PM)

And that concludes our Red Zone/White Zone controversy.

J IN FLA (Merritt Island)

Don't believe the hype of a good fight. Arreola KOs Adameck with the first solid punch landed. Love Child / Angulo is the real main event.

Dan Rafael
  (11:15 PM)

I don't agree with that but we'll see -- HBO is about to start.

Dan Rafael
  (11:15 PM)

I don't agree with that but we'll see -- HBO is about to start.

Kool KC (DeLand, Fl)

My dad says you take games off . . .

Dan Rafael
  (11:16 PM)

You try Wilt and Laneer up and down the court for 48 minutes!

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Dan, Even before seeing the HBO fights I gotta say Froch has nothing to be ashamed of. Great fights like those mean both fighters are winners as are we the fans!

Dan Rafael
  (11:16 PM)

Exactly and he has a guaranteed third fight in the tournament regardless of the loss.

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

WTF is that from?

Dan Rafael
  (11:16 PM)

Airplane!

Dan Rafael
  (11:17 PM)

The BAD music is a playin!

Richard! (Kendall Park, NJ)

Great Airplane! reference, Dan!

Dan Rafael
  (11:17 PM)

Love those movies.

Jose Sulaiman (WBC)

Bravo. I shall now promote you to Super Airplane King Freak, in exchange for a small sanctioning fee.

Gus Johnson (Denmark)

Someone give me some asprin

Turk (DC)

Am I the only one sick of Povetkin's mandatory status? It's going to be at least 2.5 years since he earned it and the guy he beat to get it (Chambers) took the shot before he did. Povetkin will never be ready for Klitschko.

Dan Rafael
  (11:18 PM)

He's been mandatory forever it seems. I'm rather sick it as well since he didn't deserve the mandatory to begin with.

Christopher Carrasco (Roswell NM)

Enjoy the HBO fights fight fans I will. Hopefully

Dan Rafael
  (11:19 PM)

I don't agree with that but we'll see -- HBO is about to start.

Dan Rafael
  (11:19 PM)

OK, Freaks, I'm going to watch HBO. I'll be back later. Maybe I will stop by between fights briefly. But report back here after the main event so we can continue our first-ever split-card RAD! See you in a bit.

Dan Rafael
  (12:10 AM)

I'm back for a few minutes. Good performance from both guys, but Angulo did what he had to and that was a nice right hand that knocked Julio down. Ohhhhhhhh, the Love Child.

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

:( for Julio. He looked great early.

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 AM)

He did and it was tight on my card but Angulo was walking him down and landing the harder shots. Good win for Angulo.

Homer (OH)

That was like a poor man's Cotto-Margarito.

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 AM)

Exactly what Max said on the broadcast and he was dead on.

Kool KC (DeLand, Fl)

Picture perfect right hand. The Love Child showed well, though.

Dan Rafael
  (12:12 AM)

Yup, although I have to be honest. I didn't think it was a great stoppage.

Ned (Hartford, CT)

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......the love child. is he a gatekeeper now?

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 AM)

It appears that way. No excuses on this one. He had a right-hander right in front of him. I would have liked to see LC sit down on his punches for once in that fight. He never seemed to throw a strong, full leverage shot. He threw and landed a lot, but too many punches on the move and too many arm punches. And Angulo has a good chin and took those shots well.

Bryant (Pitt)

Nice KO for Angulo, Julio boxed well but was clearly gassed...DTM whats next for El Perro? Another banger like Margacheato would be nice

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 AM)

Not sure what's next for Angulo. Gary Shaw co-promotes Dzinziruk, who fights in a couple of weeks. Perro, as interim titleholder, is his mandatory, so I think we might see that fight at some point.

chuzen (st. louis)

lovechild: dad, i have a headache

mike (costa rica)

dan does julio's trainer ham train anybody else i liked him

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 AM)

I did too. He said everything right. I am not sure who else he works with right now.

Tom E (Jersey City, NJ)

I hate to bring up the name for obvious reasons, but how much would you love to see Angulo-Kirkland?

Dan Rafael
  (12:15 AM)

Would love it.

Steve (Walla Walla, WA)

Man, somone should have put a "Beware of Dog" sign outside the ring!

JJD (Seattle)

Julio didn't commit to enough punches to hurt Angulo. Good fight.

Dan Rafael
  (12:15 AM)

It was but I want to know where the aggressive, punching Joel Julio went.

Dario (CA)

KO of the year?

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 AM)

Stop. Not even close. He got up and wasn't even that badly hurt in my opinion. KO of the year is when a guy usually goes to sleep or it's just so terrific. That was a nice KO, but hardly KO of the year.

miguel (los angeles)

poor adamek hes going to get his head chopped off.

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 AM)

Guess we will see in a few minutes.

Turk (DC)

Need to show some highlights of previous Adamek fights. he's probably had the most amount of entertaining fights since Gatti

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 AM)

He's had a bunch of terrific fights -- Cunningham and both Briggs fights off the top of my head.

Charles (Philly)

Nice body shot KO for Arce.

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 AM)

I got a call about that but I haven't watched it yet. It's on the DVR.

Tom E (Jersey City, NJ)

El Perro vs Junkyard Dog, I'm taking JYD. Just sayin'

Greg (Los Angeles)

Any idea when Judah may get in the ring again? Is he still under consideration for the fight with Alexander, or are his problems with King too much to overcome in terms of getting the fight done?

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 AM)

I have no idea.

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 AM)

I have no idea.

Dave (Rochester)

Why would you say you are 'torn' about love child vs. angulo?

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 AM)

Because I love both guys.

Josh (Baltimore)

Adamek vs Chambers would be a good fight if he wins.

Dan Rafael
  (12:21 AM)

I don't think so.

Dan Rafael
  (12:21 AM)

OK, Freaks, going to watch this Adamek-Arreola. I'll be back when it's over. Hope we get a good fight!

Dan Rafael
  (1:12 AM)

What a performance from Adamek!

Jeremiah (San Diego)

I had it even at 114-114. How'd you have it, Dan?

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 AM)

I had it for Adamek, 116-112. I thought he smacked Arreola around the last several rounds. Arreola couldn't deal with the movement. Adamek boxed a perfect fight that he needed to.

Bryant (Pitt)

Dan best performance of Adameks career? He was in tremendous shape and deserved to win.....Maybe this will be Arreolas wake up call to train harder, all the beers and burritos will catch up to you

Dan Rafael
  (1:14 AM)

Arreola couldn't deal with a big guy like Klitschko and he couldn't deal with a smaller guy like Adamek.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

You can't say tonight's fights weren't entertaining. A great way to spend a Saturday night..........great fights and a RAD with THE Boxing freaks!!!

Dan Rafael
  (1:15 AM)

Both HBO and Showtime were outstanding. What a great night of fights.

Jim (New Jersey)

I got Adamek 115-113

Dan Rafael
  (1:15 AM)

You got it right.

JJD (Seattle)

Rounds 11 and 12 were the "championship" rounds, but rounds 7-9 were the "were all those burritos worth it, Cris?"-rounds. Arreola's lack of stamina in rounds 7-9 really cost him in this fight.

Rich (VT)

Fight of the Night??

Dan Rafael
  (1:15 AM)

I would say overall, Kessler-Froch was the fight of the night but I enjoyed all three.

Michael (Minneapolis)

I love the heart that Arreola shows in the ring, but until he shows that kind of heart in training and gets serious and gets in shape he's never going to the next level, I don't believe.

Dan Rafael
  (1:16 AM)

Can't disagree.

Dan Rafael
  (1:16 AM)

By the way -- I also give huge props to Adamek for going to California to fight him. Arreola's team wouldn't even consider going to Newark for the fight. I have a hunch Adamek's next HBO fight will be in Newark.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, Adamek v Klitschko please

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 AM)

Unlikely next.

JJD (Seattle)

Mad credit to Arreola's post-fight interview, both in professionalism AND comedy.

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 AM)

There has never been an Arreola post-fight interview that disappointed.

Charles (DFW)

How the hell did Tony Crebs have it 114-114? Arreola bull-rushed him all night and didn't look good at all. Oh well, at least Cris still has the Taco Bell and Corona endorsements.

Dan Rafael
  (1:19 AM)

And Cris didn't really throw any punches the last 2-3 rounds because of his hand, which was clearly hurt.

Dan (Nutley, NJ)

Rematch in Newark! Get in shape Cris.

Dan Rafael
  (1:19 AM)

No need for a rematch.

Scott (ogden,ut)

Dan with this win could we see Adamek vs. Haye possibly??

Dan Rafael
  (1:20 AM)

Certainly gives Haye another option. Big fight in Europe. And I would love to see it at some point -- the last two legit cruiserweight champs in a heavyweight bout.

boris (new york)

I think the most exciting fight in the heavywieght divsion would be haye/adamek outside of a haye/ klitscho fight. thoughts?

Dan Rafael
  (1:20 AM)

I agree.

Dan (Australia)

Adamek v Klitschko would be nice but how good would a Haye v Adamek fight be.

Dan Rafael
  (1:21 AM)

As impressed as I was with Adamek tonight, I think either Klitschko knocks him dead.

Bradley D. Edwards (Richmond, Virginia)

If Arreola is 235 instead of 250, then the outcome may have been a little different. Only question is does he realize that?????

dantheboxingfan (flanders NJ)

New Joisey in the house!!

dantheboxingfan (flanders NJ)

Dan, why did chris lose this fight? Lack of conditioning? Bad game paln? what was it?

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 AM)

Got outhustled. Was beaten to the punch most of the fight. The injury didn't help. Adamek is just a better fighter overall. Arreola's size and power was his advantage and he couldn't put it use enough.

Leon (Washington, DC)

Dan, why was this fight held in California when Atlantic City would've drawn 12-15,000 people?

Dan Rafael
  (1:23 AM)

It was promoter Dan Goossen's show and that's where he and Arreola's team wanted it. And HBO backed them up. If Adamek wanted the fight, he had to go to Cali for it. Good for him. He went and he won.

Nate (Miami)

Dan WHAT???????I broke my new 50 incher tv with a corrona bottle!!IM smoked out and sh*t hammmered!! Arreolaa was jobbeed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan Rafael
  (1:24 AM)

Watch the fight back when you are a) not drunk and b) get a new TV. Adamek most certainly won the fight fair and square.

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

I'm drunk, but the Shrek comment just floored me.

NYPD Blue (nyc)

Put Adamek on the list of fighters David Haye has to duck!

Robert the Genius (Greater Philly /Southern NJ)

I see Arreola v. Chambers happening on BAD

Dan Rafael
  (1:25 AM)

I guess it's possible. Goossen does promote both guys.

The Good Doctor Filth (Cleveland)

everybody thought Arreola could draw.

Dan Rafael
  (1:25 AM)

He didn't draw that good of a crowd. There were huge sections of empty seats according to people I spoke to who were there. In Newark, the fight would have drawn 15,000.

Ali MacDonald (Glasgow,Scotland)

Tonight was a display of good chins and alot of heart. Credit to Froch,Adamek,Arreola and Kessler.

Craig (St. Paul, MN)

Dan, who is Adamek's promoter?

Dan Rafael
  (1:26 AM)

Main Events and Ziggy co-promote him.

Charles (DFW)

Too bad for poor Cris. No more Brian Mintos to beat up on after this.

Chris (Detroit, MI)

I gotta believe Haye likes this outcome because he'd welcome an Adamek fight. Deep down, I don't really think he wants to face either Klitschko.

Dan Rafael
  (1:27 AM)

Nothing against Cris, but he already was dominated by Vitali. At least with Adamek winning it gives the titleholders a fresh face to fight.

Dan (Nutley, NJ)

Who can Adamek fight in Newark that would pack the building and get HBO's approval? I don't consider Haye or the brothers as possibilities.

Dan Rafael
  (1:29 AM)

HBO I am sure would approve such opponents as Sam Peter, David Tua, maybe Chambers, Tony Thompson. I'm not saying they will happen, but I think those would be fights that would be appealing. I doubt we'll see Peter in that fight since he's sitting close to mandatory. But why not those other guys? Thompson would be interesting and he's from DC. Chambers is from Philly. Both are good regional bouts too.

George (LA)

We want Arreola-Peter! Who do you think is the bigger puncher?

Dan Rafael
  (1:30 AM)

I think Peter is the better puncher.

Bryant (Pitt)

Is it off to FNF for Arreola after that or will HBO keep him on?

Dan Rafael
  (1:30 AM)

I think depending on the match, Cris can be back on HBO. But I would think not right away.

chuzen (st. louis)

chris arreola is the only person who can be both classy and vulgar at the same time during the post fight interview

Brian (DC)

As you said, Arreola couldn't get it done against a talented big man or a talented small man...I think I'd like to not see him around for a while.

Steve (South Bend)

ADAMEK has come a long way since his epic brawl against PAUL BRIGGS

Dan Rafael
  (1:31 AM)

You're right. That first Adamek-Briggs fight was one of the best fights I've ever been at. Just pure violence. Sick fight. Bone crunching punches that you could hear at ringside.

Jose Sulaiman (WBC)

For his tremendous heart and determination tonight, Joel Julio will receive an honorary Cubic Zirconia Belt (for a small sanctioning fee, naturally)

J in FLA (Merritt Island)

Adameck could fight Dan's cats in NJ and draw 15,000.

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 AM)

Do you have something against my cats?

Greg P (Staten Island,NY)

Dan, don't ban me for this suggestion but how would Tua/Arreola play out?

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 AM)

Hey I'd like to see that. Why not? I think Tua has a bit too much experience, power and chin and would win, but who knows? Good matchup.

Jose Sulaiman (WBC)

Due to Alfredo Angulo's obvious weight drain issues, I am pleased to announce that I have created the super-junior-middleweight division (limit 157 pounds). All he has to do is give up his WBO interim belt and promise never to fight another major name again, and the division will be his (for a small sanctioning fee, of course)

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 AM)

Brilliant.

Chris (Sevilla)

Looks like the Love Child got some tough love from Angulo.

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 AM)

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child.

joshua (elizabeth city, nc)

Dan how would angulo match up with spinks or williams at 154, and who would win between chambers and adamek.

Dan Rafael
  (1:34 AM)

At this stage of Cory's career, he doesn't have much left in those legs and Angulo might pressure him to death and knock him out. Williams would outclass him. I think Adamek would outpoint Chambers.

JJD (Seattle)

Was Adamek drained from making 175 against Dawson, or was Dawson that much better than him?

Dan Rafael
  (1:35 AM)

I was at that fight I don't think Adamek was drained. He was outboxed by a far superior technician who was also faster. Adamek did score a punishing late knockdown but Dawson survived and won a clean unanimous decision.

Tony (Sacramento)

Speaking of, whatever happened to Paul Briggs?

Dan Rafael
  (1:37 AM)

I believe he had some of medical issue (not related to boxing) and is retired.

ztrain (oxford,ma )

chris arreola, joel julio, rocky juarez so close to a title yet so far away

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 AM)

Arreola was never close. Julio was close against Dzinziruk but was outboxed late in the fight. Juarez had it in the palm of his hand in the first Barrera fight and couldn't close the show.

fernando beltran (rhode island)

hey dan, so...where does the nightmare go from here?

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 AM)

Taco Bell and 7-11 for Coronas?

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

What a great night of fights. Not a stinker in the bunch, and all 6 guys were throwing as long as they were on their feet.

mike (costa rica)

dan, when i see you friday i will buy you a steak and root beer at craftsteak for this RAD!!

Dan Rafael
  (1:39 AM)

Now you're talking!

Average Joe (Parts Unknown)

Since Al Haymon represents Arreola, I guess Arreloa will be back on HBO in 2 months against Brian Minto agin. Al Haymon (eh, I mean the public) demands it!!

Dan Rafael
  (1:40 AM)

LOL!

Dan Rafael
  (1:41 AM)

We have breaking news from the Bat E-mail.

Dan Rafael
  (1:41 AM)

Traded e-mails with Kathy Duva, Adamek's promoter, since the end of the fight and she says, "David Haye here we come!"

Scott (Bloomington, MN)

Hey Dan, How about the Latin Snake vs El Perro?

Dan Rafael
  (1:43 AM)

You know what? Not bad. Interesting style match. But Mora is at 160 and isn't planning to return to 154. But Angulo might fight eventually at 160.

J in FLA (Merritt Island)

Angulo vs Kirkland is what I want to see. And yes, he's still in jail.

Greg (Los Angeles)

Any idea if Cunningham has signed with Main Events yet? It is sad how many stops and starts he has had in his career.

Dan Rafael
  (1:43 AM)

Not yet.

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

By the way, thanks for this chat Dan. I love being able to talk boxing after fights when my friends aren't really into it.

Dan Rafael
  (1:45 AM)

Exactly -- that's why I decided to do them. When I first suggested the late-night chats to ESPN the response was, "Do you think anyone will be on that late?" I knew people would be. I know what boxing fans want to do after a fight is talk about it. So I said let's try it and if nobody comes, fine, we won't do it again. Well they've been a success and I do them when I can and I'm glad people like them.

Dan Rafael
  (1:46 AM)

I dont know what the RAD record is.

Rags (NYC)

Devon Alexander any closer to an opponent?

Dan Rafael
  (1:47 AM)

Unfortunately, no.

Rags (NYC)

Does that make anything official, or is Kathy "calling" Haye out?

Dan Rafael
  (1:48 AM)

That's who they want for Adamek.

J in FLA (Merritt Island)

Doesn't Haye owe Valuev a rematch?

Dan Rafael
  (1:49 AM)

If the Valuev camp elects to pick up the option. I think they could also put it off one more fight.

Mo (VA)

Dan, what are the purses like for the super 6 bouts? Are all the fighters making the same amount per fight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:51 AM)

It depends on the deals they make with their promoters. But I am told Showtime pays about $2.5 million per Super Six fight.

NYPD Blue (NYC)

Is it just me, or is this the most vile version of Floyd Jr. we've ever seen on the current 24/7?

Dan Rafael
  (1:51 AM)

Easily.

Matt (CT )

Dan, what do you think of Valuev/Solis ?

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 AM)

Good test for Solis if it happens. I think he's too quick and too heavy handed for Valuev to beat.

NYPD Blue (NYC)

Tell Kathy Duva I like the way she's thinking!

Mike (Silver)

I hear Arreola was weight drained

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 AM)

Pay the man, Shirley.

Bryant (Pitt)

Dan whats the RAD question input like compared to friday afternoon chats?

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 AM)

Less, but still a ton.

Robert (Cambridge, MA)

Dan,If Chad Dawson beefs up his 6'3" frame like Adamek has what kind of factor can he be at heavy?

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 AM)

I think Chad may someday fight at heavyweight. His promoter, Gary Shaw, has said repeatedly that eventually Chad would be a heavyweight. He has the frame for it. Just needs to put the weight on the right way.

Mike (Pa)

Does haye wanna fight in the U.S. or hang out in england

Dan Rafael
  (1:56 AM)

I think like every top fighter from Europe, they at some point would like to conquer the US. So for the right fight, I think Haye would fight here.

George (LA)

Will Adamek climb in your rankings right now? Why is Povetkin so high? He doesn't have any great accomplishments except for a decision against Chambers.

Dan Rafael
  (1:58 AM)

Adamek will certainly climb. And Povetkin is where he is for the time being. Frankly, from 4-6 could easily be reorganized. Once you get past 1-2 and then maybe Haye, the rest of the heavyweights could go basically in any order.

Ron (MN)

Arreola still telegraphs that right hand, similar to Jermaine Taylor and he still looks like he's out of shape. Do you think that a trainer like Freddie Roach could bring the best out of him?

Dan Rafael
  (1:59 AM)

Chris is who he is.

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

Just to remind everyone: "He bitched out against me and then he bitched out against my brother." Yeah, that's you David Haye.

Steve (Walla Walla, WA)

So when is Humberto Soto fighting next and against who???

Dan Rafael
  (2:01 AM)

He's defending against Ricardo Dominguez in a couple of weeks on Top Rank Live.

JJ (Good Times)

Dan-O-Mite,If I said Lennox is the best announcer ever, would I risk banishment?

Dan Rafael
  (2:02 AM)

Obviously.

TIM (RI)

Speaking of the Heavyweights - Do you believe Povetkin has a realistic chance vs either Brother?

Dan Rafael
  (2:02 AM)

I think the brothers both beat him. I make the brothers favorites against every other heavyweight I know of.

Matt (Denver)

Hey Dan, as a voter for IBHOF, would you seriously look at Adamek's resume right now and say, "yeah, this dude has earned it. He gets the ticket?" I honestly have to say that he is the most underrated fighter in the sport since Martinez finally got his well deserved dues.

Dan Rafael
  (2:04 AM)

Adamek is putting together a nice resume but he is not HOF material yet. Please. He had a nice run at 175 and lost to the best guy he faced there, Dawson. Had a nice run at cruiser, but it's not like he reigned forever or beat a who's who. Just a really good win over Cunningham. At heavyweight he's beaten used goods in Golota, a C-level guy in Estrada and a B-level guy in Arreola. He has work to do. Beat a Klitschko for a heavyweight title? Now you're talking.

brian (scottsdale, az)

wouldn't he definitely risk banishment for say Lennox is the best ever?

Dan Rafael
  (2:05 AM)

Absolutely.

Matt (LA)

really impressed with antonio tarver on showtime and his technical analysis...what do you think?

Dan Rafael
  (2:06 AM)

I think Tarver, of all the fighters and former fighters who do commentary, is the best there is right now. I told him that too when I spent a little time with him in Vegas a few weeks ago. He just keeps getting better and better. He's good with his analysis, speaks clearly, doesn't seem afraid to tell us what he really thinks or disagree with the other guys at ringside with him. He can have that job for a long, long time.

Leo (Charlotte)

Do you believe the Julio Vs. Angulo fight was stopped prematurely?

Dan Rafael
  (2:07 AM)

I didn't think it was a great stoppage, although I think the result was going to be the same had it continued.

Kevin (Denver)

Did Pavlik have an immediate rematch clause?

Dan Rafael
  (2:07 AM)

Yes. But he still has couple of weeks to decide if he wants it officially.

Mike (Tampa)

Why won't Bernard Hopkins fight Chad Dawson? Dawson wants the fight and it makes sense at the Light-Heavyweight Division.

Dan Rafael
  (2:09 AM)

Dude who gives a crap about that fight at this point? Please. Let's move on.

Homer (OH)

What ever happened to that movie you were supposed to be in with Kasim Ouma?

Dan Rafael
  (2:09 AM)

It came out and I am in it.

Jim (Decatur)

Man what a chin Adamek has

Ned (Hartford, CT)

wow. is areola a gatekeeper now too? i know that he'll get more title shots just because the division is so weak, but he can't be considered a real contender anymore right?

Dan Rafael
  (2:11 AM)

Honestly, and I am not just saying this because he happened to lose tonight, but I never considered him a really, really serious contender ever. He's a good dude, makes fun fights and can punch. But his resume is exceptionally weak overall. What's his best win? It's against a completely finished Jameel McCline.

Dan Rafael
  (2:11 AM)

Gutterdandy (Brooklyn)

I agree with your praise of Tarver as an analyst. He's really improving every time out and is the best out there now. Who knew?

Brian (Philly)

At least Arreola still holds the W.B.C title. Worlds Best Cusser.

Dan Rafael
  (2:13 AM)

Brilliant. I'm sure he'll be suspended again by the worthless WBC after cussing again.

jose suliman (who knows)

I am glad to announce to official gatekeeper title(for a small sanctioning fee, of course)

NYPD Blue (nyc)

Adamek was born to fight. The dude loves it -- he's great for the sport.

Dan Rafael
  (2:13 AM)

You're 100 percent right.

brian (scottsdale, az)

any word on the chris avalos fight tonight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:14 AM)

He was on the Adamek-Arreola undercard and stopped John Molina in the second round.

Joe (Stamford, CT)

Saw the Ouma doc. They did a great job with it, and you were very good in it. His is an extremely compelling story in a sport that's full of them.

Dan Rafael
  (2:15 AM)

It really is a compelling story.

Keith (Chicago)

Every time I hear the name "Chris Arreola," I get a tingly feeling.

Dan Rafael
  (2:16 AM)

Go to the doctor.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Dan, May Rachel and Carl have a happy and healthy baby. Thank god we still have Nicole Scherzinger to lust after!!!

Dan Rafael
  (2:16 AM)

Dude Rachel is pregnant. She's not dead.

Tony (Tampa)

Dan,Tarver made a good observation that Kessler's accuracy has really dropped in the last several years. That may pose a problem when he is matched against quicker fighters like Dirrell or Green.

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 AM)

I thought Antonio was dead on with that observation.

ted (san fran)

WBC= We Bemoan Cursing, but not bribes and kickbacks!!

Steve (Walla Walla, WA)

DTM, were you surprised there wasn't a ten count for Edwin Valero on any of the telecasts tonite???

Dan Rafael
  (2:18 AM)

Not at all and I am glad there wasn't one. He didn't deserve one.

Jose Sulaiman (Panama)

My dearest Alfredo Angulo. That dog collar around your neck insults me and obviously you are not worthy to wear the green gold since you so proudly where those diamonds around your neck. EIther pay the small sanctioning fee for the right to were those jewels around your neck you will be dropped from the WBC rankings. Respectfully, J SulaimanPS Dont tell Rafael he hates me

Carl (Greensboro, NC)

Dan, how hard was it to avoid hearing the outcome of the fight? I couldn't wait and watched it live over the net.

Dan Rafael
  (2:19 AM)

I toyed with the idea of waiting to watch Showtime before getting the result. I could have. I had turned off my cell and was not going on the computer. But I decided to find out and knew the result before I watched Kessler-Froch.

Joe (Stamford, CT)

How 'bout a 10 count for Valero's wife? I thought that might've been appropriate.

Dan Rafael
  (2:20 AM)

Why? She wasn't a fighter or somebody "in" boxing.

Sid Brumback (Youngstown, OH)

-After watching the Kessler fight- Ohhhhhh..... so that's how you stop the bleeding!

Dan Rafael
  (2:22 AM)

Legendary.

Chris (Rottterdam Jct, NY)

I actually think Tony Thompson is the perfect next opponent for Adamek. He will get a taste of fighting someone who is 6'8 who has some pop. If he cant get past him, why even try a Klitchko.

Mark (NYC)

This ought to make Flemming sleep a bit easier tonight

Dan Rafael
  (2:24 AM)

Yeah, where is that old dog anyway? He's been a regular.

Dan Rafael
  (2:24 AM)

Yeah, where is that old dog anyway? He's been a regular.

Dan Rafael
  (2:25 AM)

Hold up, Bat Phone.

Dan Rafael
  (2:27 AM)

Dan Goossen checking in with me on his way home from the fights.

Dan Rafael
  (2:28 AM)

Sounded a little bummed out about Arreola's loss, but he's a big boy. Also asked about the Super Six fight.

Owen (Utah)

Also, Dan... my wife is putting the clamps on me to shut the macbook down and call it a night - what say you on posting my first ever chat comment to cement this as one of the best nights of my young Freak existence! :) (thanks again for the chat)

Dan Rafael
  (2:29 AM)

Have a great night!

Leo (Charlotte)

Just out of curiousity where will the Abraham vs. Froch fight be held?

Dan Rafael
  (2:29 AM)

TBA.

Ryan (Willowbrook IL)

What up Dan? I heard Tarver last nite on the radio talking about he is in the process of getting a ight with Danny Green in Austrailia. Is he that desperate for a fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:31 AM)

I don't know about desperate. A Danny Green fight for him would be quite lucrative. When we spoke in Vegas a few weeks ago he said he wanted that fight or a rematch with Hopkins.

mike (costa rica)

WOW!!!! bat phone at 2:30 am your wife is going to kill you dan

Dan Rafael
  (2:31 AM)

Yeah, I told him he shoulda called my cell. Oh well.

bill (carmel, ny)

dan, does goosen have more? or did he just win weakest bat pone update over the andre dirrell is getting married update from friday?

Dan Rafael
  (2:31 AM)

Hey dude give me a break.

Mark (NYC)

If I had a dollar for every time the Showtime crew said "WBC," I'd have slightly more money than Ray Austin right now.

Dan Rafael
  (2:32 AM)

Made me sick.

Aaron (Philly)

When will you arrive in Vegas to begin your coverage of this mega event?

Dan Rafael
  (2:32 AM)

I will arrive in Las Vegas Wednesday morning.

Leo (Charlotte)

Will Martinez likely give up his belt at 154? If so, who will probably fight for it?

Dan Rafael
  (2:34 AM)

That has not been determined yet. Obviously, if Pavlik picks up the option, he would have to give it up because the rematch would be at 160. If he does give it up, whoever the top ranked fighters in the WBC's crappy ratings would get first crack to fight for it.

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

It's official, freaks. Dan outlasted my bottle of rum. I'm going to go pass out now. Thanks again, Dan.

Kris (Scottsdale, Arizona)

Dan, my gf just put on a a teddy with thigh highs and a garter belt and told me to come to bed......I don't care about my freak status!!!

Dan Rafael
  (2:35 AM)

You are excused.

Rich (Woburn, MA)

Hey Dan. Never been a Froch fan, but I was impressed with how Froch handled himself gratiously after the fight. Not saying he's a bad guy, just very surprised how completely reasonable he was. Were you surprised?

Dan Rafael
  (2:35 AM)

Not really.

Christopher Carrasco (Roswell NM)

Hey Dan I know they do it for ticket sales but I don't like the home cooking that is somewhat tainting this great tournament

Dan Rafael
  (2:37 AM)

It's not "tainting" anything. Ward outclassed Kessler. Abraham knocked Taylor dead. Kessler won a legit close decision tonight. Dirrell outclassed Abraham and the DQ was on the money. The only close call that I could see MAYBE going the other way was Froch-Dirrell, and I thought Froch deserved that fight. So I have no beef with any of the judging. The right guys won each fight so far.

Charles (Philly)

Showtime should let Farhood do all the post-fight interviews.

Dan Rafael
  (2:38 AM)

He was good.

Adrian (Chicago)

I know it's still kinda early but the Super Six would be a sham to me if the 4th and final Super Six semifinal spot goes to Froch over Dirrell because of a tie-breaker.

Dan Rafael
  (2:39 AM)

Why? He beat him.

Dan Rafael
  (2:40 AM)

OK, Freaks, it's been an epic night of fights and chatting and an unreal two days of chatting between Friday and tonight. Thanks to all of your for making it another good one tonight. I'll chat with you next week from Las Vegas where I will be for Mosley-Mayweather, a huge fight. Talk you then. Peace.
