Hang in there folks. Jemele should be here in a couple of minutes.
I'm officially an idiot. How about I was in JA Adande's chat by accident? I clicked on the wrong one.
I was wondering why I was getting all those Laker questions. Doh!Anyway, I'm ready to rock. Will stay a few minutes extra, if need be. By the way, I loved the season premiere of the Boondocks last night. Thought it was brilliant!
Your thoughts on the Mayweather vs Mosley fight?
Two thoughts here:1. I was more impressed with Money May on this fight than any of his previous ones. Why? He took a pretty good shot to the face, recovered nicely, then dominated. 2. Wake me when May-Pacquio will happen.
I wish there was a way to block individual writers from appearing on my screen, then I wouldn't ever click on anymore of your nonsense by mistake, worst writer by far
Serious question: Do you know how a mouse works?
Do you think Bosh would be a good fit in OKC with Durant Ibaka and Westbrook
He'd be a great fit, but I don't think he ends up there. I like him in Houston or Chicago. The math makes sense.
Jemele followers on twitter represent.
Yes y'all do!And for those not following me...I'm on Twitter under @jemelehill
Hey Jemele, do you think the Lakers are now on the fast track to the finals and why? I didn't want to ask an open ended question. I am a fellow journalist.
Actually, you should almost always ask open-ended questions as a journalist. The most powerful questions still start with Who, What, When, Where and Why (Also, How). So for example, you're question should have been: How do you feel about the Lakers chances to get to the Finals? You want to force your subject to give you an extended answer. OK, journalism lesson over :)Strangely, I feel as if the Lakers already have their most difficult series out of the way from a matchup standpoint. I'm not predicting any sweeps or anything, but the Jazz aren't healthy enough to beat them. I like them against either Phoenix or San Antonio because of matchups. The Spurs would give them the most difficult time, given their experience and depth. But I like Kobe to come up big in that series, should the Lakers face them.
Is MLB obligated to take some sort of a stand against the immigration laws in Arizona?
Yes, they are. At least a quarter of MLB is made up of Latino players, and this is a law that is a direct insult to them. MLB should pull next year's all star game. I'll go a step further and say all the pro leagues should band together and rebuke Arizona, just like they did when the state wouldn't support the MLK holiday.
would you rather be a rohdes scholar or an pro bowler?
I say this in all seriousness...this is a difficult question.I've been bowling since I was eight years old. Got my own ball and shoes. It is one of my favorite hobbies, next to playing basketball and softball. And I'm generally a fan of any sport where you get better the more you drink beer.Anywho, begrudgingly, I'm going to go with Rhodes Scholar. It's arguably the most prestigious academic award in the country. You get to study at Oxford for a year. I suppose that's better than a dank, smoky bowling alley.I think.
What do you think about how Lebron has handled this elbow injury?
I think even Paul Pierce's wheelchair think LeBron is going HAM with the elbow. I love LeBron as a player, but he's milking this elbow thing and being a bit dramatic. As it is, whenever LeBron gets fouled, he acts like he was smacked with an axe. Dude, you're 272 pounds, act like it!
Do you think Magic are in the same situation where Cleveland was last year... in terms of not being truly tested in the first 2 rounds and may end up succumb to complacency and losing to Cleveland in ECF? (of course assuming that both Magic and Cavs make it out of 2nd round).
No. I don't think ORL is nearly as overconfident as CLE was after the first couple rounds. But I'll say this, I'd like to see how they handle being in a close game. We won't see whether or not they miss Hedo Turkgolu until they get in a tight series. Still, in a lot of ways, the Magic look better than they did last year. Their bench is incredible. Just like last year, they are getting overlooked. I'm not convinced Cleveland can beat them in a 7-game series.
you were looking good on around the horn the other day, I think they cheated you, you should be 2-0.
Thanks, and I was robbed! Reali just didn't want me to get overconfident. I'm still ROY.
Was Magic calling Lebron the Best Player in the game just a secret tactic by an owner to get his star player motivated?
No, I think Magic was being earnest. There's no doubt LeBron had the best season of any player this year. He's an incredible player. The problem is this: Is LeBron the player you want with the ball in the last two minutes? For me, the answer is no.
You mentioned that you are going to cover the WC for ESPN, is this the first time you'll report on a soccer event?
I'm very excited about the World Cup. This is going to be the most important thing I've done as a journalist. But no, this is not the first time I've covered soccer. I covered some of the Women's World Cup when it was in the U.S. And I also covered a couple women's Final Fours. But this will be my most extensive exposure to men's soccer.
Jemele, Liked your column on Myron Rolle. Is your personal belief Myron would have gone higher in the draft had he not studied at Oxford?
Yes. Had he not gone to Oxford, the assumption is he would have either returned to Florida State or gone directly to the league. So that would have meant more time with football, more time developing as a player. I think Rolle is going to be fine in the NFL. He's a smart man, obviously. But he has a real passion for football. People lobbed the same criticisms at Dhani Jones, and he became a Pro Bowler.
First of jemele is the best 2.. do you think lebron could win the mvp 3 maybe 4 times in a row
Sure could. He's built to win MVP because he impacts so many facets of the game -- offense, defense and making his teammates better. I think he could average a triple-double for a whole season. However, something tells me Kevin Durant is going to have something to say about that in the near future.
Jemele, shout out to MSU grads! What do you think of the moves Joe D's made post-championship? Does he deserve criticism or do fans need to cut him some slack? The last couple years have been rough.
No, he deserves some criticism. I see what he's trying to do. I'm just not entirely convinced it will work. He's building this new era a lot like he did the old one. The transition obviously would have been easier had he held on to Chauncey Billups one more season. But at this point, the Pistons only salvation is drafting well -- think San Antonio Spurs -- and getting rid of either Rip or Tayshaun. Think both of their eras have run their course in Detroit.
Who ya got in the Spurs-Suns series, and why?
I have the Spurs in 6. They've done like they always do -- start coming on late when no one is paying them any attention. I think they'll impose their will on the Suns and when it comes to getting stops at critical times, there's no question the Spurs are more trustworthy.
Jemele -- looks like Dave Dombrowski's off season moves are really playing off. Austin Jackson has been a gem and Valverde has been lights out. Also, Im really helping D Train can keep it up, you cant help but root for him.
Full disclosure: I'm a Curtis Granderson slappy. Played in his hoops charity game. He's one of the best people you'll ever meet. He was an excellent role model for Detroit.BUT, as a player, Austin Jackson looks like a better fit. The number of strikeouts Jackson has concern me, but he's leading the AL in hits and he's batting in the .350s. He's such a weapon at the plate and Granderson's consistent struggles against LHP were an issue.Very excited about what the Tigers could do this year.
If D12 continues with the foul trouble, will the magic get put out by the hawks?
Eh, I don't know about that. I don't anticipate Dwight Howard will be in as much foul trouble this series as he was against CHA. For one, Larry Brown's an excellent coach and has a reputation for taking away the strengths of the other team's best player. It was very clear CHA's game plan was to go at Howard and get him in foul trouble.Atlanta, to be frank, isn't that well coached. They are more undisciplined than Charlotte. They have great individual talent, but their halfcourt offense stinks. I expect it to be a short series and for Howard to redeem himself.
Jemele, not pro bowling or bowling in general but pro bowler like as in going to the NFL All-Star game...but I'd still take being a Rhodes Scholar. And MLB shouldn't pull out of Arizona.
My bad...I'm flying through these questions so fast. I told on myself. I'm a bowling geek. Yeah, I admit it.If it came down to Rhodes Scholar or Pro Bowl...I'd say Rhodes Scholar. Once in a lifetime opportunity. This reminds me of a similar question that was posed -- would you rather be a NBA All-Star every year of your career or win one championship and have mediocre numbers?
what is the funniest show on TV right now?
Tough call. But my personal breakdown:Funny ha-ha: The Office or Family GuyFunny because it's so ridiculous and absurd: What Chilli WantsFunny in a trainwreck way: Basketball Wives
If you were an NFL GM, would you have drafted Tim Tebow in the 1st round? Or drafted him in ANY round ???
First round? No. Would I have drafted him at QB at some point in the draft? Yes.You need your 1st round pick to be able to play right away and although I appreciate Tebow's abilities, I don't think he can. That pick is going to add a lot of pressure on him, as well as Josh McDaniels. After trading away a 20-something QB and arguably the best WR in the game...I hope McDaniels knows he just put a bullseye on his job security.
Hey, get outta my chat!
LOL, my bad. I clicked on the wrong name! Lucky for you I didn't start talking about perfume or my favorite heels.
The Grizzlies will go 82-0 next year if they get Evan Turner.
Hi J: Do you agree with those who say the Pirates should be contracted? I personally think MLB should step in and remove management, but not contract the team.
As bad as the Pirates have been, I'm going to say no. Look, in every league there have been bad teams. Eventually, even if it takes painstaking years, things work themselves out. The NFL suffered through the Bucs and the Lions. MLB suffered through the Tigers for a time. I know the Pirates have redefined losing, but let's let them do their worst and laugh at their expense.
What's the most exciting thing about preparing for The World Cup trip?
I went to the library and got four great, highly-recommended books about South Africa -- Kaffir Boy, Long Walk To Freedom, Disgrace and A Traitor's Heart.I love reading and learning, so the opportunity to absorb knowledge of another country is thrilling.
whats the difference between page 2 and the other pages?
Page 2 is for comedy, satire, and off-the-beaten path stories.
ha - thoughts on dez bryant interview? What were they expecting and what result did they want?
There was a better way to ask that question. I don't mind that Miami wanted to find out about his background, but if that question was asked in the manner Dez Bryant says, it's just inappropriate. Don't get me wrong, I understand why it's necessary to find out that information. Teams want to know who is in your circle, who might have influence over you, and what your history is. But such delicate issues require a delicate approach.
With Durrell and Kalin coming back next year, Sparty has to be the favorite next year, right? If so, how do you think this veteran team will respond?
They'll be the favorite, for sure. But I need to see more edge and passion from Summers. He's got the ability, but I need to see him and Kalin do a better job of imposing their will on other teams, particularly in tight situations. But I love Draymond Green. He's the leader MSU has desperately needed since Mateen Cleaves left.
Stephen Curry is easily the best rookie of the class regardless of who got the reward... ask any NBA player who they'd rather play with; Tyreke, Brandon or Stephen
Gotta disagree with you there. All three are fantastic, but Brandon Jennings is really special. Explosive. I think he can win a MVP one day.
Do you think it was a mistake for the Lakers to give Kobe an extension? He hasn't been playing his best ball as of late, and right now he could become a liability against the better playoff teams.
Not at all. Kobe should retire a Laker. He's not playing his best ball because he's hurt, not because he's over with. He's the NBA's best closer. He's worth every dollar he receives.
Well kids, I have to sign off. Sorry for being late. Have a good one and follow me on Twitter at @jemelehill.
