Chat with Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
  (11:57 AM)

Greetings, Fight Freaks! I'm back in Virginia this week and we've got a lot to talk about -- the aftermath of Mayweather-Mosley, tomorrow's Paul Williams-Kermit Cintron fight and the return of Antonio Margarito on pay-per-view, not to mention next week's Khan-Malignaggi fight. So check out today's notebook, the updated rankings and schedule and this week's blogs and let's get to it.

Garth (Stamford, CT)

I give Mayweather alot of credit for his dominant victory over Mosley. The way he remained composed after getting hurt in the 2nd round and dominating the rest of the fight was impressive. I just wished he had a more aggressive style as he clearly could've been the first guy to stop Shane if he just attacked him more in the later rounds.

Dan Rafael
  (11:59 AM)

I also give Mayweather a lot of credit for the win and was very impressed with how composed he was after getting smashed around in the second round. However, I don't agree with you on the other statement. Floyd, to my surprise, was very aggressive throughout the fight. He didn't run at all. He landed a ton of hard right hands. I have no complaints. Shane has a great chin and Floyd is just not a big puncher. Floyd did what he did and looked great doing it, knockout or not.

Brandon (Waukegan)

When do the New P4P rankings come out?

Dan Rafael
  (11:59 AM)

Next week.

Jeff (Redondo Beach, CA)

I am very excited for the fight on Saturday night at the Home Depot Center. If The Punisher wins, who will step up and fight him next? Shane?

Dan Rafael
  (12:01 PM)

I think it's going to be a very good fight. It's a little bit of a sleeper fight because it hasn't gotten a ton of publicity since it's coming right after Mayweather-Mosley. But I don't think it will disappoint. If Williams wins, I really don't know where Paul goes next. I don't think Mayweather or Pacquiao will fight him at this point. Martinez has already said he would do the rematch but not next. And the Pavlik fight doesn't mean all that much right now. So I don't know where he goes. Maybe Dzinziruk will look great on ShoBox next week in his US debut and that could be a fight for Paul. I just don't know.

Matt H (Phx, AZ)

Danimal, I read a blog this week about how PBF would have beaten Hearns and Duran. No way! Please help enlighten us. Also, in that same blog they didn't mention a prime DeLa Hoya (98-'02). I feel a prime Oscar would win because of his jab.

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 PM)

I am not sure where you read that but I didn't write that. I think Hearns and Duran would be a bit too much for Floyd, but who really knows? A prime Oscar might also be a big problem for Floyd since an old, faded Oscar was very competitive with him.

John Larkin (Grand Rapids, Mi)

Dan, Huge step up for Seth Mitchell tonight, how do you see that FNF fight shaping up.

Dan Rafael
  (12:03 PM)

His opponent, Johnnie White, has a great record. But I was at his one loss to Dominick Guinn and I saw a guy who had absolutely no idea how to fight. I was shocked how bad he was. Based on that, Mitchell ought to win easily. White's record is great but he looked like a complete stiff to me.

Charles (DFW)

Would it be realistic for Vic Darchinyan to move up to featherweight, even to fight Marquez or Vazquez, given how he couldn't even carry his power up to 118 against Agbeko.

Dan Rafael
  (12:04 PM)

Given where Marquez and Vazquez are in their careers, I don't think it's out of the question.

Charles (DFW)

If Pavlik decides to move up to 168, who do you see as an immediate opponent? Bute? Bika? Stieglitz, if he wants an easy title?

Dan Rafael
  (12:04 PM)

I don't think we'd see Pavlik in a major fight like that right off the bat in his first fight at 168, if he goes there, but at some point if he can rebound those would be legit fights.

Ester Nicholson (Nashville, TN)

Where was BHOP for the Mayweather/Mosley fight? Thought he and Mosley were best friends. Admittedly, I didn't get to see the fight on PPV or in person, but in the press conference video, there was no sign of him. Was he there and did he look like he had foot in mouth after the fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:05 PM)

I was told Bernard was in town but I never saw him. He's in his little snit with GB, which is why I assume he was nowhere to be seen in the media center, at the weigh in, at the press conferences or on fight night.

Ancel (SoCal)

As boring the fight was, I have to give Mayweather credit for finally coming out to fight. He was going forward the whole fight. He has the best defense for the straight shooters but can he handle Pacman's rapid punches that come's from every directions?

Dan Rafael
  (12:05 PM)

I didn't think it was a boring fight actually. It wasn't competitive after the second round, but I enjoyed watching it.

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

You're a joke. I scored it 10-8 becuase Floyd was badly hurt multiple times in a dominant round for Mosley. And, just so you know, I was certainly not the only reporter in the front row who scored it that way. My man Tim Dahlberg, a longtime boxing writer for the AP, also had round 2 a 10-8 rounds for Shane.

Leo (Philadelphia)

Dan, several media reports said the crowd last week was pro-Mosley. Was that also your observation?

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

I thought it was fairly split. Both guys had their cheers coming in. When Shane hurt Floyd, the crowd went crazy and chanted for Shane. But at other times they chanted for Floyd.

Tomas (Tx)

Floyd looked very good, but what happened to Shane? I dont think Ive ever seen him fight like that. He was jittery, tight and never really seemed to get the nerves out

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

I think Shane in retrospect displayed signs of being a shot fighter -- couldn't follow up, couldn't get off even when there were openings and looked a little more stiff than usual. I am not taking away from Mayweather's victory but you have to admit Shane looked a bit shot.

Koichi (NYC)

Dzinziruk vs PWill would be great, besides him and Martinez there's no major fights for Paul at JMW and MW.

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

I don't disagree unless maybe he faced the Foreman-Cotto winner at 154. That would also be a reasonable fight.

Corey (WestWick)

I gotta to take my hat off to Floyd and the way he took Mosley out but I have to wonder was it the fact Mayweather looked that good or did Mosley look that bad

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

I think it was probably a combination of both.

jeff (tampa)

Forget the Blood Testing, the main issue in negotiations had better be venue. CANNOT BE MGM GRAND! Let the real fans pack a place like Cowboys Stadium and make it historic. 100k plus! Watching 15,000 empty seats during the first 4-5 hrs of last weeks card is sickening. And those seats for those prices, give me a break. Just steal my money! And to watch the high rollers and celebs roll into their free seats when teh hardcore fan has been there for so long. It turns your stomach. If this fight is in a stale casino, its a total TV event. And that would suck!

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 PM)

I can't disagree. I love the MGM Grand. I consider it almost like a second home I have stayed there so often. I have probably stayed there what would be equal to almost a year of my life. That said, it is just too small for a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. That fight is so big it needs to be in a larger arena, a much larger arena. If Pacquiao-Clottey could draw 51,000 I truly believe Pacquiao-Mayweather could draw the 100,000ish.

Tony (Tampa)

Nice of Richard Schaefer to give out shout out to the freaks with the nice undercard on Diaz-Marquez II.

Dan Rafael
  (12:12 PM)

I agree. Richard is really serious about trying to make that card something "Freak worthy." He has told me that several times when discussing the card with him.

Ron (Duluth, MN)

Dan, did you see Oscar's reaction when Shane hurt Floyd in the second round? I haven't seen look that happy since he knocked out Vargas. Never seein a promoter act that way, but given Oscar's business relationship and friendship with Mosley, I can understand why.

Dan Rafael
  (12:12 PM)

I'll have to go back and look at the video. I didn't notice that.

Paul (Williamsburg, VA)

I hope the fact that your boxing chats go so long lets the suits at ESPN know there is an untapped thirst for more boxing. ESPN2 Friday Night fights is nice, but I would like to see more regular boxing coverage on the SportsCenter Broadcasts.

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 PM)

I don't disagree but I know we had a ton of boxing coverage last week on SportsCenter, First Take and ESPNEWS all week with the fight. I made close something like 15-plus appearances last week covering the fight.

Dave (San Jose)

I agree with you Dan, while it wasn't a competitive fight after the second round, I really enjoyed it. The Pacquiao fight will be interesting because Manny will be in his grill all fight and Floyd lets his hands go when being pressured.

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 PM)

That is why we all want to see the fight so badly.

Roscoe (VT)

Dan while I see your point in removing the "ducker" label from Floyd, I hope you and the rest of the media keep the heat on him and don't give him TOO much credit for fighting a legit welterweight. That's what he's supposed to do, and it took him 5 years but he finally did it. Now tell Floyd to do it again, and not use Mosley as an excuse to go back to fighting 135 and 140 pounders. Keep up the good work DTM!

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 PM)

I wanted to see him fight a top welter. He did it. I am happy. And the thing is I had always predicted he would beat Mosley anyway. But it's one thing for him to say it and another to do it. Now he did it. And now there is more business to attend to in Pacquiao, but I am going to let it play out a bit and give Floyd time to enjoy his victory.

chuzen (st. louis)

dan other than the second round, mosley looked like he could no longer pull the trigger

Brock (Illinois)

Any word on Alexander's opponent for Aug. 7? I am still holding out hope for Bradley.

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

There isn't going to be a Bradley-Alexander fight in August, so forget about that. It was never a possibility no matter what you read. Later in the year or next year? Sure. But not in August unless HBO backs up the truck to make it happen. So Bradley and Alexander are still in need of opponents for their next fights.

Matt (portland, OR)

Given the fact how much Hatton eats/drinks when not training, do you think there is a decent chance now that he's retiring there could be TWO Ricky Hatton's?

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

Nah. Maybe 1.5. I spent some time with Ricky last Thursday night in Vegas and he was enjoying a pint and hanging out.

Brooks (Cleveland)

I had the 2nd 10-8 as well. I was wondering how many people would view it that way. I also thought it wasn't boring. I didn't feel ripped off for my $65 like I have other times.

Big Jibbs (Fort Worth)

Morning Dan, how critical is the election Pacquaio is running for next week to the feasibility of a fight with Mayweather? If he wins, is he out of boxing for the position term? Thanks

Dan Rafael
  (12:19 PM)

I don't think the election outcome one way or the other will prevent the fight from taking place in the fall.

Dan Rafael
  (12:21 PM)

So far there is nothing concrete no matter what you read or hear. I exchanged e-mails with HBO's Mark Taffet this morning asking the same question. His reply was that they are waiting for one or two major cable systems to report numbers "so we can ensure an accurate projection." So that is where we are. I am hoping to get numbers later today or tomorrow.

Brendan (Cherry Hill, NJ)

Who is Lucian Bute going to fight on July 24th in Romania and do you think HBO will air his next bout as his previous 2? Since Robert Steigletz is not interested it seems like Jesse Brinkley will step up to the plate.

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

Lucian plans to fight in Romania this summer, but it won't be on HBO. His fall fight may be on HBO.

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

Bat phone!

Dan Rafael
  (12:23 PM)

It's Kevin Cunningham, Devon Alexander's manager/trainer. He wants to know what the Freaks think about if Khan, Ortiz, Bradley and Alexander win their summer fights them matching up in sort of a semifinal?

Tomas (Tx)

Sounds awesome

Freddie Faull (London, UK)

Hey Dan, did you get a chance to speak to Calzaghe last weekend? Id like to see him return but Id rather die than watch a rematch with hopkins.

Dan Rafael
  (12:28 PM)

I saw him, but didn't speak to him about a comeback. I think he's on the fence about a comeback.

Freddie Faull (London, UK)

Hey Dan, how good would a Margarito v Angulo fight be?

Dan Rafael
  (12:28 PM)

Obviously, entertaining.

David (Cape Canaveral)

Mr. Rafael, since as you reported Adam Booth did not make the expected trip to the US hence didn't begin talks about Haye-Klitschko, when will they begin negotations? Do you think it happens this year? Thanks King

Dan Rafael
  (12:30 PM)

He didn't make the trip, but the sides are still talking. They have about a week to let the IBF know if they can make a deal or the IBF will order a purse bid for Klitschko-Povetkin. I think there's a good chance Klitschko-Haye will happen this year, but nothing concrete at the moment.

Devale (Chicago)

Dan, Katsidis vs Mitchell should be awesome. i think Katsidis pulls it out, who do you got?

Dan Rafael
  (12:35 PM)

I love that fight. I think it will be very good. I think Katsidis probably pulls it out, but Mitchell is a better boxer and certainly has a chance to win the fight. I really like that fight.

JJD (Seattle)

If you were seeding those guys at 140, would you end up with (1) Bradley v. (4) Ortiz and (2) Alexander v. (3) Khan? I would take that in a second.

Dan Rafael
  (12:37 PM)

100 percent. Kevin says that is fair. He says it doesn't matter. He just wants the fights.

Erik (Atlanta, Ga)

D$$ can we get a prediction on Saturday's fight? I got Williams by 8th round stoppage.

Dan Rafael
  (12:38 PM)

I like Williams on a decision.

Jesse P (franklin square long island)

I'm picking cintron on saturday what do you think?

Dan Rafael
  (12:38 PM)

I've seen a lot of Freaks split over the result. Some picking Paul, some picking Kermit. I think that means we could have a very interesting fight.

Pete (NYC)

Why exactly would Victor Ortiz get in this semifinal over Maidana?

Dan Rafael
  (12:39 PM)

Nobody is saying he would. Just somebody offered a hypothetical top 4.

joe (bellmore, NY)

although I know the complete numbers arent in, any truth that the ppv underperformed a little bit, and theyre expecting not much highre than 1 - 1.2 mil

Dan Rafael
  (12:39 PM)

Not at all. Again, there is nothing concrete no matter what anyone is writing or saying.

Dennis (Pittsburgh)

I will never pay to watch a Margcheato fight. The "man" is a disgrace. As boxing fans we need to show our disgust by not buying the PPVs. Maybe he'll slither away into some hole.

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 PM)

That is absolutely your right as a consumer.

Richard (Kendall Park, NJ)

Dan, Seems like promoters are starting to recognize the Freaks and are looking to make us happy with great fights. Awesome!

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 PM)

They hear you loud and clear, believe me.

Joe (Stamford, CT)

Is Top Rank's offer to Caballero for a fight with Gamboa a token offer, or do they have a real interest in making the fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:41 PM)

I think they would honestly like to make the match but money is rough on that fight. They have a number from HBO. They have a huge nut to cover with Gamboa and Caballero has expectations as well based on his minimums and this being a bigger fight so more than his minimum.

Ryan (Chicago)

Great call by Kevin.

Dan Rafael
  (12:42 PM)

Cintron believes Margarito had loaded gloves in their fight. Angulo was very raw when they fought and Kermit had much more experience and that I think was a big factor in his win.

chuzen (st. louis)

maidana should be in the conversation for that 140 lb division moreso than ortiz

Dan Rafael
  (12:42 PM)

I agree.

Bo (OK)

Novice fan here... Would boxing help itself if there were fewer weight classes?

Dan Rafael
  (12:43 PM)

Maybe so, yes. But what would help more is if there were fewer titles.

Jamesom (Ottawa)

Dan, I like boxing.

Dan Rafael
  (12:43 PM)

So do I.

JD (DC)

How does Rickey Hatton expect to still have the fire in his belly when it is full of beer?

Dan Rafael
  (12:44 PM)

In my usual nod to Norman Chad, pay the man, Shirley.

Jesse p (franklin squre long island )

caballero will get destroyed by juan ma!

Dan Rafael
  (12:45 PM)

Uhhh, they are not fighting.

JD (DC)

You stated in the notebood that Barrera is working with Top Rank. Wasn't he a partner in Golden Boy?

Dan Rafael
  (12:45 PM)

He was but is no longer. He never signed a contract and they split awhile ago.

Roy (Reno)

Cintron does not have the mental toughness to go 12 rounds with Williams.

Dan Rafael
  (12:45 PM)

There are a few people who are saying the same thing. I think we will find out.

Danny (Orlando, FL)

Even though his fighter lost last Saturday, I still believe Nazim Richardson is one of the best people to have in your corner. I don't know that the towel trick is effective, but I love listening to him in Shane's corner.

Dan Rafael
  (12:46 PM)

Naazim is a tremendous asset to any corner.

Randall (Tampa)

Hey Dan, We all know GB ain't gona match Khan with Alexander in his second fight. Also, could you pass on to Mr. C. that I will enjoy watching a young fighter like Alexander fight in his hometown. God bless St. Louis a true fight town (filled area to watch Spinks).

Dan Rafael
  (12:47 PM)

You're probably right but it is fun to speculate about and discuss. The fact is that 140 is loaded right now at the top but eventually these guys are going to have to fight each other -- Alexander, Bradley, the Khan-Paulie winner, Maidana and even the Ortiz-Campbell winner.

Khalid (Brick City)

What would it take for solid boxers like Steve Cunningham and Paul Williams to develop fan bases?

Dan Rafael
  (12:48 PM)

A promoter to actively work to have fights in their hometown regions.

David (Cape Canaveral)

King, thanks for the Klit-Haye info. One more thing, IF it gets made would it def be PPV?

Dan Rafael
  (12:48 PM)

If Klit-Haye is made it would be PPV in the UK but not in the USA or Germany.

Jesse p (franklin squre long island )

where does sugar shane go from here? hang it up?

Dan Rafael
  (12:49 PM)

Really don't know. If he retires, great. But I would wager Shane will fight again at some point. Boxing is what he is about. I think coming off the loss that a fight with Berto would still interest people.

Nick (Harrisburg, PA)

Can we please talk about Floyd throwing a half-hearted challenge out to Sergio Martinez...i loved that...i think this is the beginning of floyd really truly taking on the best before he's officially done, now that he's a superstar

Dan Rafael
  (12:50 PM)

Mayweather moving up to fight Martinez would be very interesting. It would be Floyd in a huge test against the legit middleweight champ, although they could do it at 154, where Martinez is also a titleholder at the moment.

Eric (North Hollywood)

Hey Dan, have you heard when Steve Luevano might be back in the ring?

Dan Rafael
  (12:50 PM)

Nothing is planned. I asked his manager, Cameron Dunkin, about that not too long ago. He said Steven is just kicking back and taking some time off.

Danny (Orlando, FL)

Dan, Is it fair to say that Top Rank is throwing Gamboa into bigger tougher fights while protecting Juanma? I feel since Juanma has a huge following, as does any good Puertorican fighter, they are a bit more cautious as to who they put in the ring with him.

Dan Rafael
  (12:51 PM)

No, I don't think that's fair. With the amount of money Gamboa makes per fight and the fact that he is not a fan draw means he has to fight tough. Lopez's purses are more reasonable compared to what he generates, so he doesn't have to be pushed into the very dangerous bouts at the moment.

Dennis (Pittsburgh)

Do you get the sense that PWill is looking past Cintron? It seems some of the articles I'm reading lately he's talking about other opponents.

Dan Rafael
  (12:52 PM)

Having spoken to Paul a few days ago, I didn't get that impression at all.

Donald (NY)

Dan, ESPN is in the same boat with WBC as money hungry snakes for taking money to advertise Margarito's fight. Those pup-ups make me sick!!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:54 PM)

Here's the difference: We are not out there hounding and begging and pleasing for every cent from Top Rank. They came to ESPN to advertise the fight. Period. The WBC creates titles and crazy scenarios to squeeze every dime it can out of promoters and fighters and acts against them if they don't play ball. Big diff.

Billy (Pittsburgh, PA)

Dan, if you had to guess, do you think HBO would purchase a Haye-Adamek fight? Evenly matched and I think both gave exciting performances in their last bouts.

Dan Rafael
  (12:54 PM)

If that fight was made, for sure I believe HBO would pay up.

Sam (Penn State)

As much as it hurts me to say: I am honestly not expecting Pacquiao/Mayweather to ever happen. I hope to get pleasantly surprised and have one side back down, but just don't see it happening.

Linden (CA)

Maybe we can get a Shane/Cotto rematch. On reg HBO this time.

Dan Rafael
  (12:54 PM)

If Cotto wins, I could see that fight happening.

Mike ((Visalia, CA))

Good monrning Danomite, any chance of RAD tomorrow?

Dan Rafael
  (12:55 PM)

Maybe.

bubba (ottawa il)

Lets not forget kahn has a pretty big fight next saturday vs paulie. You cant overlook PM, the kid can fight. Diaz made that mistake twice. Dan, i give paulie a pretty good chance at beating kahn. You agree? And i love boxing also.

Dan Rafael
  (12:56 PM)

I give Paulie a decent shot, yes. Khan is stuck in Canada and unable to get into the US because of an immigration issue that Golden Boy has feverishly been trying to work out. It's no guarantee he will get into the US so it is possible -- I said POSSIBLE -- that the fight gets called off. We will have to wait and see what happens, but there are an awful lot of nervous people from the Khan/GB camp, the Paulie camp and at HBO.

Evan (NY)

I give more props to PBF for refusing to pay the sactioning fees for a useless belt than beating Mosley! Wish every fighter would follow his lead on that one.

Chris (Kansas City)

Any info on Margaritto's opponent. Tomato can or legit?

Dan Rafael
  (12:56 PM)

Somewhere in between.

rob(jersey) [via mobile]

Yo Gabba Danna - I take it Amir Khan's visa issues were cleared up? I hope so - that card in on my bday and I'll be in attendance. I hear the Affinia is the spot after the fights.......

Dan Rafael
  (12:57 PM)

The visa issue has not yet been cleared up but they hope it is today. It's been an issue for a few weeks. Have fun at the show and yes, the Affinia is the place to be.

G$ (Oakland)

Who is GBP looking at for the Ghost Guerrero's opponent on the JMM-Diaz II under card? Please dont say Rocky Juarez

Dan Rafael
  (12:57 PM)

Nobody specific yet. One name thrown out (and just a possibility keep in mind) was Barrios.

Jake (England)

Nice to see Cunningham-Ross added to the Sylvester-Karmazin card on june 5th. looking good! Winner gets Huck?

Dan Rafael
  (12:58 PM)

Good card for sure. Really wish there was US TV for that one.

chuzen (st. louis)

dan, did kevin cunningham talk about his frutstration of securing a fight for alexander in august?

Dan Rafael
  (12:59 PM)

Yes, he is frustrated because they don't have anyone yet. They wanted Maidana and he went with Bradley and then got hurt. They'd be ok with Judah, but he doesn't want to do biz with Don King. They are working on it.

Matt (Denver)

Hey Dan, some Europeans on the Boxing message boards have stated the Dzinziruk is an incredible fighter and have gone as far to say that he would put a whooping on martinez. Have you seen anything from him to believe it is remotely possible that Sergey is the best at 154?

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 PM)

I have seen Dzinziruk many, many times. He's a quality fighter with some solid wins. He has probably beaten better overall opponents at 154 than Martinez has at this point, but I think Martinez is a little more talented overall.

Will D (Cumberland, RI)

Danimal, I was tweeting with Kevin Iole while he was sitting with you at the fight Saturday. I told him to say hello to you and that you should get twitter. Have you given it any further thought?

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 PM)

LOL. I was like two seats away from Kevin at the fight and he mentioned that. I'm not yet on the Twitter bandwagon.

Clint (UK)

Dan, do you expect Roy Jones to fight again?

Dan Rafael
  (1:01 PM)

Probably.

John (Grand Rapids, Mi)

Boy I hope Cintron doesn't get 'headbutted' again like he did vs Martinez.

Dan Rafael
  (1:01 PM)

You mean knocked out?

Thomas (Providence)

Dan, does your ESPN contract also allow you to also do print work? I?d like to see some of your longer articles and interviews in ESPN Magazine or other Boxing Mags.

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 PM)

I could do stuff for ESPN magazine but have never been asked.

Jesse p (franklin square long island )

ever check out the club shows?

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 PM)

Sure.

Joe (NY)

Buy or sell...Pac - Margarito and Mayweather - Alvarez next?

Dan Rafael
  (1:03 PM)

Sell.

Mike (Gilbert Az)

Do you know Bob Arum is in the Phillipinnes now?

Dan Rafael
  (1:03 PM)

Yes, he flew there earlier this week to be with Manny through the election.

Robert the Genius (Greater Philly / Southern NJ)

Dan, give us a little sneak peak on next weeks rankings, and the #1 P4P champ is....

Dan Rafael
  (1:03 PM)

Nope.

Arod (NYC)

Not sure if i was seeing things but was berto on stage for the wiegh in between SS and Floyd

Dan Rafael
  (1:03 PM)

Yes, Andre was on stage during the weigh in.

Matt (Spokane, WA)

If Mrs. DTM was doing spring cleaning and threw out the entire DVD collection, would you be able to forgive and forget, forgive only or would it just be over?

Dan Rafael
  (1:04 PM)

She knows better than that.

Deegh (Elk Grove, CA)

The Love Child lives on........Viva Love Child!!!!!!!!

Dan Rafael
  (1:04 PM)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child.

Pudgy (RI)

Anyone else take advantage of the Tecate 12-pack, Mayweather v Mosley deal? We got 30 bucks off our PPV buy...worth it because by the time we were ready to go for the fight it didn't matter what we were drinking!

Robert the Genius (Greater Philly / Southern NJ)

Why did Cunningham end up with Sauerland over Main Events?

Dan Rafael
  (1:05 PM)

I don't know for sure but I am told he got some up front money and very good purses for his fights, plus Sauerland has several cruiserweights under contract that they can match him with -- Huck (in a rematch), Hernandez and others.

John (FL)

What's your next fight you will attend in person?

Dan Rafael
  (1:06 PM)

I'll be in NYC next week for the Khan-Malignaggi fight, assuming it happens.

Hinrich (Germany)

A shame that Cruz is not mentioned at all in the featherweight sweepstakes. He would be a solid opponent for them all.

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 PM)

He has a fight coming up first off. He is also somewhat anonymous and doesn't have a great record, even though he's been on a good roll. He also doesn't make very good fights. I think people just sort of forget about him because he hasn't been seen a lot recently. But you are right -- he would certainly fit in with a lot of the top guys who need opponents.

Bert (Norco, CA)

Just want to remind the freaks that today is the fifth anniversary of the greatest fight in our spectating era. Sadly it is also the date that three years ago the sport lost a great warrior and an amazingly nice and honest guy to all the fans, Diego Chico Corrales. Moment of silence...

Dan Rafael
  (1:08 PM)

You're right. Best fight I have ever been too -- Corrales-Castillo 1. And besides it being the anniversary of the fight it is also the anniversary of Chico's untimely death. And on top of that, it's my mom's birthday, so happy birthday Mom!

Owen (England)

Dan you are such a hater 10-8 2 round on floyd is unaceptable, i'm happy you don't judge fights officially, your still the man though!

Dan Rafael
  (1:09 PM)

It is not unacceptable. It was perfectly legit and I stand by it 100% even if you don't like it. And you know what? I don't care that you don't like it.

Lazer (Brooklyn, NY)

with the articles that I've seen over the years urging the Klitschko's to fight each other, do you know if there has ever been a boxing match between two brothers?

Dan Rafael
  (1:10 PM)

Not that I am aware of.

Hinrich (Germany)

Wise career choice for Cunningham in your opinion?

Dan Rafael
  (1:10 PM)

If he is happy fighting exclusively in Germany, sure. But he'll never be a big star or draw there I don't think.

Tim (St. Lou)

Hey Dan, do you get the impression that public opinion has shifted to some degree from taking Pac's side to Floyd's regarding testing after Saturday night?

Dan Rafael
  (1:11 PM)

Yes. Floyd has the moral high ground going for him.

Nick (Harrisburg, PA)

Doesn't it just make all the sense in the world for the Alexander-Bradley fight to happen now? It sounds like its Gary or Bradley's camp that's holding that up? Ur thoughts? Btw, I've got Alexander layin the boom on Bradley.

Dan Rafael
  (1:12 PM)

It makes no sense now at all because it won't generate big money now like it can in a fight or two. Right now neither guy is a big draw, neither guy does big TV ratings. This one needs to simmer a little longer until it's ready. If it happened now I would love it, but it's not nearly as significant now as it could be next year.

Ryan (Chicago)

Any reason why Berto was on stage?

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

He was at the fight and was being shown respect by Golden Boy.

Duff (Boston, MA)

Can't wait to get home from work. I'm going to pour a tall glass of whiskey and watch Corrales-Castillo I for the 700th time.

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

Nice.

Greg (Los Angeles)

I know its not a bad fight but why is HBO and GB determined to shove Juan Diaz down our throats? He couldnt beat Campbell, Paulie either time or Marquez the first time and now we are supposed to shell out money to watch this guy fight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:15 PM)

They are not "shoving" anything down anyone's throats. They are putting on the fight and if fans want to buy it cool. If they don't, that's cool too. You buy it if you want too. Nobody is forcing you to do anything. I happen to think it's a good rematch. Would I like it on regular HBO? Of course. That is not how it works in the real world right now since they don't have the budget to do that fight in the time frame GB wants to do the fight. So if GB puts it on PPV and puts together a strong undercard, like it looks like they are trying to do, then great.

Matt ( CT )

Dan, just bought my tickets for the Cotto/Foreman fight at Yankee Stadium, can't wait...will you be at the fight? It will be the 2nd fight I've been to, after...Dawson/Johnson in Hartford, so I'm expecting a bit better atmosphere...

Dan Rafael
  (1:18 PM)

It will definitely be a better atmosphere than it was at the morgue... I mean Hartford.

James (Athens, GA)

Ok, so the Diaz JMM rematich is on HBO PPV...but how much do you think it will cost? The standard 50ish?

Dan Rafael
  (1:19 PM)

They have not set the price yet but it will be either 45 or 50.

Khalil (Atlanta, GA)

Dan, are you dreading writing about blood and urine for the next few months?

Dan Rafael
  (1:20 PM)

100 percent. I made a comment to a boxing industry friend of mine that I didn't want to spend my summer covering the negotiation.

rob (jersey) [via mobile]

Am I crazy - I can't believe for a second that VIC is "ducking" Nonito. Please tell me that they can't agree on money or something like that.....

Dan Rafael
  (1:21 PM)

It seems to me, just my opinion, that as soon as Shaw and Top Rank ironed out the TV issues and the fight was agreed to that is when Vic and/or his management pulled out of the fight.

Tom (Pittsburgh)

Dan will manny be more personally involved in the negotiations with mayweather this time around?

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 PM)

I have no idea. One thing that could help is if when they do negotiate the fight that Manny was in the United States to make things a bit easier.

Christopher (Kalamazoo, MI)

Dan, I think you should stop posting the mentions of "The Love Child:" until he actually wins a fight against a decent opponent.

Dan Rafael
  (1:23 PM)

When you have your own ESPN chat you can make that call. So in the meantime, Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child.

Joe (San Francisco, CA)

Does Top Rank have any plans to re-make the Rios-Antillon fight once Rios is recovered? That fight is guaranteed action and would have been worth the price of the card itself.

Dan Rafael
  (1:24 PM)

I would imagine if Antillon wins tomorrow they would revisit that fight.

David (Cape Canaveral)

King,...Deontay Wilder is 6'7 and weighs in at 220, at 25yrs. old are his people lookin' to bulk him up any,..and when does his competetion improve? Is there any chance he's a player in the H/Ws in 2-3 years?

Dan Rafael
  (1:25 PM)

He's a bg project but he has the physical tools you can't teach, height and power. He's really raw and needs a lot of time. He's probably a 2-3 year project at this point. So let him and his trainers do their thing and let's see what happens. If he develops, he could be a big plus for American heavyweight boxing.

Mrs. DTM (at work)

Matt (Spokane, WA) If Mrs. DTM was doing spring cleaning and threw out the entire DVD collection, would you be able to forgive and forget, forgive only or would it just be over?Dan Rafael (1:04 PM) She knows better than that.Seriously, you should be banned for thinking I would do that. Banishment?

Dan Rafael
  (1:26 PM)

Mrs. DTM is asking for banishment for Matt from Spokane for even suggesting she would throw out my boxing DVDs. Freaks?

Ryan (Chicago)

What would a Floyd win over Martinez for the lineal MW title do for his legacy?

Dan Rafael
  (1:26 PM)

It would be a massive feather in his cap.

Ben (Boston, Mass. )

i think that Golden Boy made a business decision last saturday. Mosley threw the fight not to ruin a possible match up against pacquiao.. there is no way a world class fighter whos been fighting for 20 years of be that tired after 2 rounds.

Dan Rafael
  (1:27 PM)

If you really think Mosley threw the fight I feel sorry for you.

Tom (Reading, United Kingdom)

Dan have you heard the rumour that Sky are pushing for a David Haye-Audley Harrison over Haye-Wlad what do you make of that?

Dan Rafael
  (1:28 PM)

I have heard that and that would be an utter disgrace, especially after all the talking he's done about the Klitschkos. Audley Harrison isn't even a legit top 15 heavyweight, maybe not top 20 at this point.

Banishment (Hartford,CT) [via mobile]

How dare you Matt. Come with me to Hartford for your insolence.

Neil (Boston)

Whats gives with the visa issues? I thought Amir had been training in LA for sometime now. Its not like a Valero with the DUI, etc... I dont get it. Even if he was only here for a month. He fights he, he brings commerce to your economy, he goes home. Done!

Dan Rafael
  (1:30 PM)

He was here on a tourist visa, not a work visa. He had to go out of the country to apply and went to Canada. That combined with the fact that he had recently been in Pakistan and with what happened in Times Square, Homeland Security apparently flagged his application, which includes previous legal issues in England. It all adds up to a problem.

Anthony (Sacramento)

Dan in my opinion the Ross-Cunningham fight is a toss up. Who do you like in this fight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:30 PM)

Outstanding fight but I lean to Cunningham.

Greg (Los Angeles)

I understand that people do not have to buy the fight but isn't their better fighters that they could put on a PPV? Juan Diaz should be on a undercard and instead he is headlining a PPV card. To me a guy like Juan Diaz needs to win a few meaningful fights before he gets another big time fight and it just seems like this guy loses fight and fight yet still manages to land a big time fight.

Dan Rafael
  (1:31 PM)

I think the point is that it is a rematch of the fight of the year. If Diaz was fighting some other guy or Marquez was then I don't think it would be on PPV. But because it's a rematch of a compelling fight, they went the PPV route because there was no room on HBO. It's really not very complicated.

Charles (DFW)

Why has everyone it seems, including you, placed Floyd back atop the P4P rankings so quickly? Yes, Shane was a nice win but it was a shell of the old Shane that he beat. Pacquiao hasn't done anything to warrant being dropped to No.2

Dan Rafael
  (1:31 PM)

You obviously don't read. I haven't put out a new p4p list since the fight.

Alan (South Africa)

Seeing that most observers scored the 1st round in favor of Shane, scoring the 2nd 10-8 is perfectly legit and perfectly acceptable.

Matt (Denver)

If Marquez/Diaz II is half as good as the first one it's while worth $50. Sign me up.

Will D (Cumberland, RI)

Dan, I know you've made the statement that Kevin Cunningham is one of the more underrated trainers out there right now, but I like the guys no-nonsense personality too. He knows Alexander is one of, if not, the best at 140 and he wants to make the best fights. I saw his March fight live in CT and I believe him. Cant wait to see the kid fight again!

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 PM)

One thing I can say about Kevin, and I think I know him pretty damn well, is that he is not afraid to match Devon with ANYBODY at this point.

ahmed (cleveland)

why do boxing writers add $10 to the price of the PPV in their articles? it was $55 at most not $65 unless you're in canada. quit trying to kill your own sport (not you dan)

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 PM)

It was $65 if you wanted it in HD in most places.

Joe (Austin, TX)

Can you provide your thought about why Shane stopped pressing or fighting, after he wobbled Floyd?

Dan Rafael
  (1:34 PM)

As he said, he couldn't do anything to follow up. He tried he said and couldn't.

John (San Fran)

BANNED! If Mrs. DTM says so....it must be done

Henry (Columbus)

Dan, I know you won't give a preview of your new P4P list, but is it safe to assume Mosley took a big drop?

Dan Rafael
  (1:34 PM)

Never assume anything. Read it next week.

Banishment (dooms of hell)

I am so hungry, I'm having a two-course lunch meal today: Matt (Spokane), and Ben (Boston). Yum!

James (Athens, GA)

To everyone complaining about JMM Diaz PPV: It was the fight of the year last year. You'll be paying for a show -- who cares if Diaz isn't a top-tier guy. Styles make fights, not resumes, and theirs match up very well.

Matt (CT )

What ever happened to "80-72", or rather, "100-90" Malik Scott?

Dan Rafael
  (1:35 PM)

Still in the gym and not fighting anyone and making boring fights when he does.

chuzen (st. louis)

people please stop complaining about diaz marquez being a ppv! it was the FIGHT OF THE YEAR! why wouldnt you want to see a rematch of the fight of the year?

WBC (Mexico)

Matt, please come to banishment island with us. We will make up a championship belt for you!

JD (Phoenix)

Maybe Matt in Spokane's Wife threw his DVD collection out and he is asking for advice from the King Freak?

Michael (Long Beach, CA)

Ben in Boston should be banned for being stupid.

Dan Rafael
  (1:36 PM)

When Freaks Attack!

Mike Dokes (Dokestown, NY)

Is HBO hiding the PPV buys because they are super high and don't want to be wrong, or that they are too low and will be embarrassed?

Dan Rafael
  (1:37 PM)

Neither. When the release the numbers they want them to be as accurate as possible. Simple as that.

Jose Suleiman (WBC headquarters)

Mr. Rafael, I realize that recently we've had some misunderstandings. Please accept our recommendation for Popo the cat to become the Emeritus Feline Galactic Champion as a token of our respect for youa?¦for a small nominal fee.

Jordan (Newfoundland, Canada)

Hey Dan, I saw your 10-8 score on the fight credential and I liked it! (I didn't agree with it, I don't think SSM landed ENOUGH punches) but I would have been tempted to score it 10-8 just to see what it would like like! Has Floyd ever gotten only 8 points for a round?

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 PM)

I think once when a knockdown was called against him against Carlos Hernandez (wrongly by the way).

John (San Fran)

What is the Visa issue? Does he have some sort of arrest record?

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 PM)

Yes, he does.

Matt (Spokane, WA)

Dan-- yes, I am jealous. My wife hates boxing.

Pete (NYC)

Would you say that any way you slice it, there's a massive power vacuum in any P4P rankings right now? After Floyd and Manny, it's pretty thin right now. A lot of guys in the teens who could easily crash the top 10 before the end of the year, though.

Dan Rafael
  (1:40 PM)

It is Manny and Floyd or Floyd and Manny, however you rank 'em, and then everyone else right now. I know that no matter what the new rankings look like at the top I will be heavily criticized by the fans of the No. 2 fighter. I'm ready for it and don't care because I will do what I believe is right and accurate.

chuzen (st. louis)

dan that pic of valuev on the notebook reminds me of how scary looking that dude is. if only looks could kill....

Dan Rafael
  (1:40 PM)

LOL!

Chris (Sevilla)

Hey Dan, what up. I saw the Alvarez, Cotto fight and it seemed that the HBO commentators were giving Alvarez some pretty good compliments. Aside from the usual mistakes that come from a young fighter they seemed to think, as Larry Merchant said "hes a prospect with a capital P". Do you think their assessments were correct or is it publicity hype for HBO to have a new fighter in their line up that'll bring ratings from the mexican community.

Dan Rafael
  (1:42 PM)

If you know the HBO announcers like I do you would know they say what they think when calling a fight. I thought Alvarez showed potential as well. I have seen many of his fights from Mexico. I like that he survived the scare against Cotto (which was also a 10-8 round without a knockdown, by the way) and took him apart. He's still raw and needs work, but Alvarez is good to watch and with a few more fights and more experience, he may be ready for some big things.

Juan (Los Angeles)

Suprised to see Arreola out of top 10- I know he lost to top 2 guys he faced but those 2 are 2 of the top 4 heavys in world. I would love to see him pull a Samuel peter and get in shape...and fight samuel peter- would he a good scrap

Dan Rafael
  (1:44 PM)

Why should Arreola be in the top 10? His best win is against an out of shape and faded Jameel McCline and in his two losses one was a shutout before the stoppage and one was a legit decision to a cruiserweight.

Devale (Chicago)

How the heck does Popo get the belt?! hasnt he been ducking Thunder for like 2 years now?

Dan Rafael
  (1:44 PM)

Nah, they battle it out daily and also spend a good deal of time licking each other.

Joe (NY)

If you had to guess, who do you believe Floyd will share the ring with next?

Dan Rafael
  (1:44 PM)

Pacquiao.

Roger (OH)

here's a weird question....do you know how soon guys like Floyd and Pac get paid these massive sums after a fight? Is their bank account 22.5 million heavier when they wake up the next day?

Dan Rafael
  (1:46 PM)

They get a check after the fight.

Charles (DFW)

As much as I would like to see a Khan-Prescott rematch, why would Khan do it, and why would Roach let him do it when there's better money fights out there?

Dan Rafael
  (1:47 PM)

At some point why not? It would generate a lot of interest and it's a way for Khan to clean up the one blemish on his record. Not every fight is a huge, huge fight.

Josh (Lincoln, NE)

Dan, I'm sure you can't really comment, but I have to air a grievance on behalf of boxing. Elizabeth Merrill's hatchet job on the "boxing culture" was a complete joke. Attempting to connect what Valero did to a robbery gone bad, to a suicide (after the guy had been retired 20 years), to what may or may not have been another suicide is just ridiculous. Even trying to make up connections between those events, besides the fact that deceased were all boxers, is irresponsible journalism and I thought ESPN was better. Thanks for the chat, I had to rant.

Dan Rafael
  (1:49 PM)

I was quite put off by the thesis of the story. The deaths had nothing to do with each other. Two of the guys were retired and removed from boxing. One guy was a raging drug addict. The other guy got car jacked minding his own business. Arguello has been out of boxing for 20-plus years. His situation was politcal in many ways. I don't see what they had do with boxing at all.

Jake (Arl Hts, IL)

Danny,Every chat i am going to give the quote of the day, today it is;Dan Rafael (1:23 PM)When you have your own ESPN chat you can make that call. So in the meantime, Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child.

Greg (Yonkers, NY)

ESPN should be ashamed for advertising Margarito's PPV card on their site. The only thing that stopped a criminal battery was Brother Nazz.

Dan Rafael
  (1:49 PM)

It's called paying the bills.

Gerardo (AZ)

DTM, if Williams beats Cintron on HBO, and Mayweather - Pacquiao is not made, do you see any way Mayweather and Williams fight next? Am I being naive thinking there is a small possibility of that fight happening?

Dan Rafael
  (1:51 PM)

I don't see that fight happening because there is very little to gain for Mayweather by taking the fight. If he doesn't fight Pacquiao and wants a tough fight he'd be better off fighting Martinez for the middleweight title, for example. That would mnean more than fighting Williams.

Alyssa (Pittsburgh)

Dan, what did you think about the stoppage in the Montiel-Hasegawa fight? Looked like a bad one at first but when I read that Montiel broke Hasegawa's jaw i changed my mind.

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 PM)

I thought it was perfectly fine. He was out on his feet.

Romeo (DC)

Which win was more impressive to you, Floyd over Shane or Manny over Cotto?

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 PM)

They were both very impressive.

Michael (Long Beach, CA)

Dan, I watched the fight last week and it certainly looked like Floyd could have gone down either time. The first looked like if he hadn't grabbed Shane's arm, then he was on the canvas. Was he that hurt?

Dan Rafael
  (1:56 PM)

I was five feet from the ring and I saw him as severely wobbled. The second right hand I do think he nearly touched the canvas with glove but was able to hold on to avoid going down. But he got himself together in the third round and cruised.

Jay (MD)

I had never seen Hozumi Hasegawa fight. Was the Fernando Montiel win that big of an upset?

Dan Rafael
  (1:58 PM)

It was definitely an upset. Hasegawa was at home and had been on a terrific run lately. I had him at the bottom of the top 20 p4p. Montiel had not looked good in some recent fights and was only a couple of fights removed from what should have been a TKO loss. And on top of that, Hasegawa had won the first three rounds in my opinion before getting caught. Definitely and upset.

Eric (DC)

Great win for Montiel. May have been a lucky punch out of nowhere but it did the job.

Cabral (Atlanta)

Dan, how did the atmosphere of this fight compare to other big fights (Mayweather/Hatton, Mayweather/DLH,Manny/Cotto). There were some big name celebs in the crowd.

Dan Rafael
  (2:02 PM)

It was a massively star studded crowd, one of the most star studded crowds I can recall other than the first Mosley-Oscar fight. Governor Arnold was sitting right near me. There were tons of movie stars and athletes there. But the overall atmosphere was not nearly as good as some of the other big fights like Hatton or Pacquiao, because those guys bring nationalism to their fights. Their fans are so passionate and travel such a long way that they are crazy in the arena. Not the same for Mayweather-Mosley.

Charles (Philly)

DTM, was it a conscious decision on your part not to mention the Margarito PPV in the Notebook?

Dan Rafael
  (2:03 PM)

No. I wrote a separate feature on the comeback fight.

Sneaky Pete (Brooklyn)

Dan, I know you can't post your feelings on this, but I know it must make you sick that ESPN has agreed to advertise Margacheato's fight.

Dan Rafael
  (2:05 PM)

Doesn't make me sick at all. We're a business that relies on advertising. Top Rank advertising a legitimate boxing event, even if you have issues with Margarito fighting, is perfectly acceptable.

Dan Rafael
  (2:05 PM)

We have breaking news from the Bat E-mail.

Dan Rafael
  (2:07 PM)

I am told that the Department of Homeland Security has cleared Khan to enter the US. They are still waiting for clearance from the State Depertment, but that one is easier to obtain than the OK from Homeland. So it looks promising that we will have a fight next week.

Brandon (NYC) (NYC)

Can we stop with the lie that DLH was competitive with PBF? The fight wasn't close, except to one possibly drunk judge. Watch it again. It's 8 rounds to 4, if you're being kind to Oscar.

Dan Rafael
  (2:07 PM)

8-4 is competitive and some of the rounds that went to Floyd were also competitive rounds.

Dan Rafael
  (2:09 PM)

FYI -- Times Square is being avacuted again.

Michael (Long Beach, CA)

If you compare Oscar's performance with Floyd to Shane's, it was damn competitive.

Dan Rafael
  (2:09 PM)

Exactly.

Eric (Irving, TX)

"I'm dealing with bigger issues like my daughter's senior prom this weekend" And, the trash talker of the week award goes to Carl Moretti.

Dan Rafael
  (2:09 PM)

That was a legendary quote. Moretti cracks me up sometimes.

Gerardo (Dallas)

"Mosley!!Mosley!!Mosley!!!Mayweather is hurt!!!" Hey Dan, do you think Jim Lampley was as surprised as everyone was when Mosley hurt Mayweather with the right hand shot in the second round? I've never seen Mayweather that hurt, not even when Judah connected him was he that hurt.

Dan Rafael
  (2:10 PM)

Obviously, he was quite surprised. Nobody has ever seen Floyd hurt like that.

Angelo (Miami)

Dan, just wanted to know how long you've been involved in boxing, io journalism or other?

Dan Rafael
  (2:12 PM)

I've watched the sport my whole life practically. I covered it here and there when there was a local reason for it when I worked for newspapers early in my career. I have covered it exclusively since the beginning of 2000 for USA TODAY and then ESPN.

jerrell (huntsville,al): [via mobile]

out of the three super middleweights that fought last friday on showtimes shobox who has the most upside?

Dan Rafael
  (2:12 PM)

Upside I would say Marcus Johnson.

Paul B (NY, NY)

Dan The man- First let me see it was great to finally meeting you in the media center this past weekend. I have been a fan/freak for a long time now. Also, I have to say that the boxing writers, commentators, and athletes are probably the most approachable of any sport. Everyone from Mulvaney to Berto to Gary Shaw to Angulo to Sugar were more than happy to talk shop with me. It was a great thrill for me. Keep up the good work- our fine sport is in a class of its own!

Dan Rafael
  (2:14 PM)

Glad you had fun. The people in boxing are for the most very approachable, including the fighters.

Taylor (SLC, UT)

Dan, I'm a respecter of one's opinions, especially yours, but I'm curious if you've experienced any push back for calling round 2 of M vs. M a 10-8 round? I'm not knocking it; I see your reasoning, just curious.

Dan Rafael
  (2:14 PM)

A lot of people didn't agree but that's life.

Kyle (Madison, Wi)

Can we give a big shout out to Nick Charles? Get well soon champ.

Dan Rafael
  (2:15 PM)

Defintely. I know all the Freaks are rooting for him, and so am I.

Angelo (Miami)

10 years, that's alot. Cool.

Dan Rafael
  (2:15 PM)

Feels like I started yesterday.

Koolkc107 (DeLand, Fl)

Calling my shot now. Paulie over Khan in a dominant performance.

George (Fontana, CA)

How talented or good is Richard's Hall opponent tonight on duece.

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 PM)

Top Cuban amateur being moved quickly. Hall is older but for a guy with five pro fights, should be at least something of a test. Considering the fight was made at the last minute after Escalante was injured and pulled out, it's kind of interesting.

carlos (houston, tx)

did you attend fight guerrero fight on Friday? Did Deontay Wilder picked a tourist off the street to fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:18 PM)

I was at the show, yes and wrote a story about it. Wilder did not look too good but he was pushed more than he has been so far as a pro, so that is a good thing.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Dan, You've mentioned in the past that you have, on occasion, talked to some of the referees after the fights. Have they ever told you something about a fight you didn't realize while watching? And have they ever, even in confidence, disagreed with a decision on a bout they ref'ed?

Dan Rafael
  (2:19 PM)

Definitely.

jesse p (franklin square long island )

I personally don't believe in 10-8 rounds with out the knock down, because you didn't earn it, and i also don't agree with 10-10 rounds, but i want to know how did you score marquez vs pacquiao one?

Dan Rafael
  (2:19 PM)

I don't recall my exact score but I had Marquez winning the fight and gave Manny a 10-6 round in the first round.

Clark (KC MO)

Dan, how does it feel to have people kiss your ass just to have a crappy question posted?

Dan Rafael
  (2:20 PM)

Great.

George (Fontana, CA )

Dan, speaking of approaching fighters. I had the priveldge of meeting Israel Vasquez about two weeks ago at the Santa Anita Horse Races in California. He looked good and said he expects a tough fight again. He mentioned he wants Junma or Gamboa afterwards. Your thoughts on either of those fights?

Dan Rafael
  (2:20 PM)

If Vazquez prevails against Marquez and is going to keep fighting I could certainly see either happening. They would be good paydays for Vazquez and give the younger guys a great name on their resume if they can win.

Steve (Hartford )

Is 154 a one shot deal or a permanent move for Cotto?

Dan Rafael
  (2:21 PM)

I doubt that decision has been made. The decision will I am sure depend on how he fares against Foreman.

Jose (Visalia)

Hey Dan, are you going to watch the World Cup?

Dan Rafael
  (2:22 PM)

Not for one second.

ron adams (philly)

Dude, no one scores a round 10-8 sans knockdown unless the dude gets severly out done. Buckling knees does not make a 10-8 round. especially since Floyd came back punching. That's bias, plain and simple.

Dan Rafael
  (2:24 PM)

You're wrong about that. In fact, Nevada has encouraged its officials to be more liberal with 10-8 rounds when a guy is hurt even if he doesn't go down. Now the judges in Mayweather-Mosley had it 10-9, but 10-8 rounds minus a knockdown are not rare, especially in Nevada.

Jesse p (franklin squre long island )

devon alexander a future hall of famer?

Dan Rafael
  (2:24 PM)

Ask me in about 5 years.

Greg (NJ)

Dan,Why has no one mentioned a Berto-Pwill match-up? That would seem to be a good reputation-builder for both.

Dan Rafael
  (2:26 PM)

I think most people don't see it as a realistic fight. Big, big size disarity, plus they have the same manager. I'm not saying it wouldn't interest me, I just think people overlook it because nobody really believes it is remotely possible.

carlos (houston,tx)

DTM, why not soccer?

Dan Rafael
  (2:26 PM)

Pathetic grass jamboree.

Jonathan (Cleveland via Scotland)

If Khan is denied a Visa then I can fight Paulie instead. I am British and am already in the country. Though getting from 205 to 140 may be an issue. Maybe I could just pull a Mayweather and weigh in heavy. I want a belt though, even if I lose.

Bakari (Jersey City, NJ)

Big D, seems from your notebook the int'l rights issue got ironed out 5mins too late. Any chance they can put humpty dumpty back together again?

Dan Rafael
  (2:28 PM)

That's nonsense. Five minutes late for a fight that is not until late August? If Darchinyan wanted the fight he could tell his promoter to get it done. He didn't and there is no fight. And it's Vic's fault (or his manager's). I don't blame Gary Shaw or the Donaire/Top Rank side. It's all on Vic as far as I can tell. The fight isn't until AUGUST!

Brandon (UK)

What chance do you give of ever seeing the Hitman fight again after you spoke with him?

Dan Rafael
  (2:30 PM)

Seems awfully unlikely. He went on for quite awhile about just not having the hunger anymore. Said he went to the gym several times and didn't feel it. Said he is enjoying his life and doing his thing. He is promoting fights in England now and that is keeping him busy. I don't think he has any interest in fighting again. Between those comments to me personally and the fact that he hasn't fought now for one year, I dropped him from the junior welterweight divisional rankings.

Cristian (Jersey City)

The WBC should award the loser of a close fight with the Honorable Mention Interim Diamond Title...for a small sanctioning fee of course.

Dan Rafael
  (2:30 PM)

Classic.

Jesse p (franklin squre long island )

did froch get robbed against kessler?

Chris (Nashville)

Pathetic Grass Jamboree. Classic Danimal! I totally agree.

Clark (KC MO)

10-8 is legit. That is the "judging" part of judging. If is what as easy as 10-9 for a winner and 10-8 for a knockout you wouldn't need or want judges.

Brandon (Rogers, Ar)

Serious question here... Have you ever been in any type of fight in your life... whether it be a street fight, controlled sparring... etc? Just curious.

Dan Rafael
  (2:32 PM)

I defintely had some "street" fights as a kid.

Jim Lampley (Ringside May 11th, 1994)

It happened......it happened......

Angelo (Miami)

Dan, do you want to see the hitman fight again? He sounds like he obviously doesn't want to. Who today do you know fights for the joy of fighting and not because a title shot or a big payday is coming along the way?

Dan Rafael
  (2:33 PM)

I don't have a lot of interest in seeing Ricky fight again, especially if he doesn't want to. I think Shane is a guy who fights for money but also becuase he genuinely loves the sport. Same for a guy like Chris Byrd, when he was fighting.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

THE new qoute of the day: (soccer) "pathetic grass jamboree!" I could not have said it better.

Brandon (UK)

Yeah, I noticed Hatton was out of the rankings. How long has he been in your rankings?

Dan Rafael
  (2:34 PM)

Ricky has been ranked for YEARS.

Mike (San Diego)

Dan, I'm impressed, what do the haters have to say after you gave Floyd all the credit he deserves for beating Shane. They said you were a Floyd-hater when really you were just speaking the truth.

Dan Rafael
  (2:35 PM)

They don't know me so they don't know what they are talking about.

Nizzi (Des Moines, IA)

Dan, how much do you think Ricky weighed when you saw him?

Dan Rafael
  (2:36 PM)

I would say probably maybe 180 or more.

Camacho (CA)

What's a "purse bid"?

Dan Rafael
  (2:38 PM)

When the promoters can't make a deal for a mandatory fight the organization calls a purse bid to get a deal done. They open the bout to its registered promoters and whoever makes the biggest offer gets to promote the fight. The amount of money bid is the purse for the fight. That is typically split 75-25 (or 70-30 depending on the organization) between the titleholder and challenger. A vacant title is usually a 50-50 split. Sometimes the splits are changed here and there for various reasons.

Thom (Holton, IN)

If Hatton does indeed call it quits is a HOF in your opinion?

Dan Rafael
  (2:39 PM)

Very borderline. I do not think at this point I would be inclined to vote for him.

Mike (San Diego)

Dan, leaving the arena last week I stopped when I saw Jim Lampley in the crowd talking to several people. He was saying that the drug testing issue with PBF-Pac is nonsense. If Manny is on anything it's HGH, which the tests won't catch. So Floyd needs to back off b/c the tests won't catch Manny, and Manny needs to give in, b/c if he is on HGH, he can't be caught. Thoughts?

Dan Rafael
  (2:41 PM)

Jim and I have that same conversation.

Koolkc107 (DeLand, Fl)

At the risk of looking like I'm pandering to our illustrious host, scoring a round 10-8 without a knockdown is legitemate. It's just like scoring a 10-9 round even though there was a knockdown. For example, if a guy outlands someone 50 to 15, then gets hit while offbalance and hits the canvas, he might still win the round provided his 50 had the guy more hurt than the 15.

evan (glendale, ca)

pavlik vs. martinez, round 9, was 10-8 with no knockdown. sergio was unloading.

rob (jersey) [via mobile]

Your Highness - I was wondering if you were still following your other adopted son Vasyl Lomechenko. Is he going to fight in London, or will he turn pro (hopefully) by then?

Dan Rafael
  (2:42 PM)

From everything I have heard, he will compete in 2012 in London and go for another gold before considering a pro career.

Brendan (Chicago)

Dan, did you have a problem with how many times Shane initiated a touch of gloves with Mayweather throughout the fight? I'm all for respecting your opponent, but Shane must have tried to touch gloves 20 times over the course of 12 rounds. What happened to fighters wanting to go to war for 12, and then hug after it's over, instead of being buddy buddy the entire fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:45 PM)

Absolutely. That crap drives me CRAZY. Touch 'em up when the fight starts. Maybe if there's a foul by accident. Then you can hug at the end of the fight. Maybe even there is a really good exchange and the round ends and you're sorta tipping your hat to the guy. But please -- it's a freakin' fight. FIGHT. Don't touch 'em up all the way through. I absolutely freakin' hate that and even commented to Lance Pugmire from the LA Times, who was sitting next to me during the fight, that it drove me nuts.

John (San Fran)

Chill with the hate on soccer...it hasn't done anything to you...if you don't like it, don't watch, no need to repeatedly degrade it

Dan Rafael
  (2:47 PM)

Soccer is horrible.

Jonathan (Northern VA)

How would you see a Bute vs. B-Hop fight going?

Dan Rafael
  (2:48 PM)

Boring. Not interested.

Brooks (Cleveland)

How do you deal with all of the BS whining on a weekly basis? If I was in your shoes I would either need to switch to a forum where profanity is OK, or shut it down entirely. Thanks for putting up with it.

Dan Rafael
  (2:48 PM)

LOL. Sometimes it ain't easy.

James (Athens, GA)

Would you rather watch Kevin Johnson vs Anyone or USA vs. England in soccer?

Dan Rafael
  (2:49 PM)

Neither.

Brent (Cleveland)

soccer really does suck

Dan Rafael
  (2:50 PM)

How about a soccer game in Hartford that is overseen by the WBC and WBA?

Rich (MD)

You talked about the national fervor at a Manny or Hatton fight. Imagine that x 100, and you've got the World Cup this summer. Might actually be right up your alley.

Dan Rafael
  (2:53 PM)

It won't because when the event starts they kick a ball around forever, rarely score and don't punch each other except from time to time, which against the rules.

Randy (Hong Kong)

Is Winky Wright a HOF'er?

Dan Rafael
  (2:53 PM)

Yes.

RC (DC)

I have always called you a hater....What I have to say is: Thanks for giving the guy credit for a job well done.

Devin (NYC)

I saw the comments you made earlier about the people "inside" boxing being approachable, but let's take a look at fight fans. Aside from Yanks/Sox rivalry, I've never seen such ridiculous fans in my life. I watched a guy scream at another fan for 45 minutes during Pavlik Martinez and repeatedly threaten him for absolutely no reason other than cheering for the other fighter. What gives?

Dan Rafael
  (2:54 PM)

Many boxing fans need therapy and need it fast.

Earl (D.C.)

Is James Toney a HOF'er?

The Good Doctor Filth (Cleveland)

Going through the chat, can't believe so many people are hard on Kermy. Yeah, the Martinez fight was a joke, and semi-embarassing. My personal belief is that Margo had been loading for some time, probably against Cintron too. Other than that, Cintron has been excellent, including one of my favorite knockouts (KO against Hairy Matthyse).

Michael (Indianapolis)

Both of these fighters are clients of the company I work for and me and a coworker had a debate on who would win between Michael Moorer & Chris Byrd. I say Moorer, he says Byrd. Settle the debate - lunch is riding on this.

Dan Rafael
  (2:58 PM)

I think Byrd would outbox him.

Jeff (Ohio)

Dan, let's touch gloves before every question in the chat from now on.

Dan (NYC)

Dan, Do you get paid more when you make more appearances on ESPN? Do you get paid a flat rate and you are at their disposal?

Dan Rafael
  (2:59 PM)

You are nosey.

Daniel. K (Pluto)

Dan... Would Arum ever consider Pacman Vs Spinks for his 154 title since hes probably Pacs best chance of winning another title at that weight class?

Dan Rafael
  (3:00 PM)

Anything is possible I guess. But I cannot see the public accepting that fight if it was before a fight with Floyd.

Angelo (Miami)

Is Antonio Margarito a hall of famer?

Dan Rafael
  (3:00 PM)

Are you a dope?

Dan Rafael
  (3:01 PM)

Freaks, we have breaking news from the Bat E-mail.

Dan Rafael
  (3:01 PM)

My man Lee "Harv" Samuels, Top Rank's PR man, is in Mexico and tells me Alonso Lopez is out tomorrow night (not sure why) and that Mikey Garcia is moving onto the televised portion of the Top Rank PPV card.

Earl (D.C.)

DTM, your answer didn't show up... Is James Toney a HOF'er?

NYPD (nyc)

I remember Pavlik's corner SCREAMING at him to quit touching gloves all the time in the second fight with Jermain Taylor. I sat there and applauded. Pavlik quit doing it and actually started doing better in the fight.

Joe (San Francisco, CA)

So to summarize, Kevin Johnson vs Malik Scott = Soccer

Dan Rafael
  (3:03 PM)

Pay the man, Shirley.

David (Houston)

Was Sergio Martinez supposed to decide by now about what weight class he will be fighting at or does he still have another week?

Dan Rafael
  (3:09 PM)

The organizations are giving him some time. No rush, but in the next few weeks I am sure he will decide. I would imagine he won't decide until after Pavlik either picks up the option or doesn't.

Julio (Gumi)

How tall would you say Paul Williams really is? Somehow he looks much bigger than the 6'1" They say he is.

Dan Rafael
  (3:14 PM)

I have stood next to him and I would say he is probably legit 6-2.

Randy (Hong Kong)

Do you think Toney or Mayorga does better at MMA?

Dan Rafael
  (3:16 PM)

They probably both get smoked.

Koichi (NYC)

A tourney at 140 would be sick!

Dan Rafael
  (3:17 PM)

Wouldn't it?

Chris (NY)

Paulie-Khan weigh in open to the public?

Dan Rafael
  (3:18 PM)

I am not certain but probably if it is like all the other fights at the Garden.

Kent (St Catharines)

Dan. great to see you write about the Cunningham vs Ross fight this summer. Can't wait as it has a chance to be a really good fight between two high caliber cruiserweights.

Dan Rafael
  (3:20 PM)

It's an excellent fight.

chuzen (st. louis)

will you be on fnf tonight?

Dan Rafael
  (3:20 PM)

Yes, via Skype.

Devale (Chicago)

Dan, youre a man of your word, Floyd finally deserved credit and you have been giving him his due. can the hater talk stop now!

Dan Rafael
  (3:21 PM)

Probably not.

Steve (Minneapolis)

I heard the WBC is sanctioning a new Lucky Charms belt with Shamrocks, Horseshoes, and Pink Balloons!

Dan Rafael
  (3:22 PM)

Sweet. I bet it's extra $$ if you want milk.

chuzen (st. louis)

dan on a scale of 1-10, how would you rate the ppv last week (including the televised portion of the undercard). it turned out much better than i expected (although admittedly my expectations were low)

Dan Rafael
  (3:23 PM)

I would give it about a 6.5, maybe 7.

Tomas (Tx)

Round of the year candidate: Ouali vs Saldivia

JB (Toronto)

DTM: Is the Mikey Garcia fight going to be televised?

Dan Rafael
  (3:25 PM)

It is now.

GUSTAVO (BAY AREA)

Hey Dan, I went to the Mayweather Mosley fight last week. I enjoyed Floyd's entrance with the O'Jays, why wasn't the whole thing shown on the HBO PPV broadcast???

Dan Rafael
  (3:26 PM)

I don't know. I thought it should have been.

Brad (Madison)

Did you see Suliman's comments regarding Mayweather-Mosley and the belt not being at stake? Its priceless. How can he go out in public after saying such blatantly dumb things?

Dan Rafael
  (3:27 PM)

He actually believes his own nonsense I think.

chuzen (st. louis)

floyd jr fans: "they didnt show my whole entrance last week because they're haters"

Dan Rafael
  (3:28 PM)

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Willie (Hampton, VA)

Dan, do you ever take your wife with you to the Vegas fights?

Dan Rafael
  (3:29 PM)

No. She's come with me once many years ago. I did bring her once to Puerto Rico for a fight. She liked that.

Robert the Genius (Greater Philly / Southern NJ)

How come there was no mention of the Diamond Belt, either during the fight/afterwards or even in the media after the fight?

Dan Rafael
  (3:31 PM)

Because nobody gives a crap and it was not at stake. The WBC begged and pleaded with the promoter and camps to take the title and they all refused their nonsense.

JB (Toronto)

Any idea why Brandon Rios is off the card tomorrow night?

Dan Rafael
  (3:31 PM)

He got cut.

Pat (Peoria, IL)

Were you surprised to see Mayweather right in front of Mosley the whole fight?

Dan Rafael
  (3:33 PM)

Not entirely, but a little.

Tomas (Tx)

Would love to see Robert Guerrero scrap with Humberto Soto on the Diaz Marquez PPV show.

Dan Rafael
  (3:35 PM)

I would too but don't count on it. Sotto defends next week and then will either do his mandatory or he may move up to 140.

Dan (Nutley, NJ)

That's one aspect of HBO's telecasts where I think they should make a change. I get very frustrated when Lamps and crew blab through someone's cool entrance (Hatton comes to mind).

Dan Rafael
  (3:35 PM)

I agree entirely.

chuzen (st. louis)

will marquez diaz have a countdown or 247 type of show?

Dan Rafael
  (3:37 PM)

Very unlikely.

Mickey (NYC)

Is Manny's defamation suit still ongoing? Will that be used as leverage in blood testing schedule?

Dan Rafael
  (3:37 PM)

It is still going on and I would imagine part of the negotiation for the fight would be for the suit to go away.

Pat (Peoria, IL)

If you were Adamek's handlers would you go straight for the Klistchkos, or try a smaller guy like Haye or Povetkin first?

Dan Rafael
  (3:40 PM)

Whatever the biggest money fight I could get I would go for.

Kevin (Chandler)

Jhonny Gonzalez/Ponce de Leon? Feel free to pass that fight back to Richard with a large "Freaks approved" stamp.

Dan Rafael
  (3:41 PM)

LOL. That is a pretty damn good fight isn't it? NO WAY it wouldn't be a war.

Horn (Vegas)

Is it safe to say that Floyd would have beaten Shane at any point of their respective careers?

Dan Rafael
  (3:43 PM)

No, not at all.

mike (westcoast)

dan who are the dudes that walk the fighters out in red coats in vegas?

Dan Rafael
  (3:45 PM)

The are the commission inspectors. Each fighter is assigned a commission inspector to watch over them and make sure nothing is done with the gloves, that they don't drink any banned liquids, basically keep an eye on everything.

edible panties (your room)

Why are Mayweather fans all so sensitive like him and think that everyone is a hater, when everyone just want to see him fight top fighters on a regular basis.

Dan Rafael
  (3:46 PM)

Because they are cry babies.

Pat (Peoria, IL)

Time Square situation resolved, was a cooler full of water bottles.

Dan Rafael
  (3:46 PM)

Good.

mike (baltimore)

Hey dan, you say in your notebook that Winky's looking for a bigger fight than Macklin, but what realistically is out there for him? Pavlik at 168?

Dan Rafael
  (3:47 PM)

I have no idea. I think Winky has nothing. If he would get his rear end back in the ring, fight a decent opponent (like a Macklin, for example) and win, then doors would open. But he's on a year of inactivity and coming off an ass whupping from Williams and has lost two fights in a row -- and only fought twice since 2007.

Isai (OKC)

So with Maidana cancelling on Bradley, any word on possible opponents. (seeing that the Alexander fight might be a long shot.)

Dan Rafael
  (3:47 PM)

Not yet.

Corey (Petersburg, WV)

If Margarito gave me 50 free tacos, I might watch him fight again. But I'm definitely not paying to watch him beat up some bum.

Mike (Pa)

So mike jones in newark any names

Dan Rafael
  (3:50 PM)

Newark is not definite. It could also be Atlantic City. The opponent they have in mind is Irving Garcia. I hope it's on ESPN2. I'd like to see Jones get the exposure and Garcia a tested veteran.

chuzen (st. louis)

dan, exactly how large is your dvd archive?

Dan Rafael
  (3:51 PM)

Between tapes and DVDs probably at least 5,000 with 10s of thousands of total bouts.

Charles (DFW)

Why would Soto move up to 140? His record at 135 consists of wins over two shot fighters with names (Chavez and Diaz). He needs to find a way to beat Anthony Peterson first.

Dan Rafael
  (3:53 PM)

Top Rank told me he is considering the move up. I am not saying I think he should. I am just telling you that he is considering it.

Nizzi (Des Moines, IA)

What about a Winky Wright/Jermain Taylor rematch?

Dan Rafael
  (3:53 PM)

Why? Not interested AT ALL.

Brandon (DE)

Man 5000 tapes do trainers ever ask to borrow any tapes

Dan Rafael
  (3:54 PM)

I have been asked by the camps of many fighters over the years for tapes.

Brandon (Waukegan)

Are you allowed to wager on fights?

Dan Rafael
  (3:55 PM)

Legally in Las Vegas you can bet fights. I do not ever bet on fights.

Greg (Armonk)

How did you amass such a boxing collection? Do you have a good site where you can get boxing DVDs?

Dan Rafael
  (3:56 PM)

A lot of time, effort, hard work and attention to detail. I have recorded fights myself for many years and traded with folks around the world for years.

David (Baltimore)

Thanks for the 4 hour chat DTM. Made work fly by.

Dan Rafael
  (3:56 PM)

Glad to help.

Brandon (Waukegan)

I meant are you allowed being a boxing writter. I wager all the time on them.

Dan Rafael
  (3:57 PM)

I don't think anyone could stop me from wagering legally on fights in Las Vegas and I have never been told don't bet on fights and it doesn't say anywhere in my contract that I am not allowed to bet on fights, but I don't do it because as a person covering the fights, I don't think it's appropriate and I wouldn't want my wager to impact the way I write and report about a fight.

Brock (Illinois)

Quietly, we have approached the 4 hour mark. Dan never tires in these long chats. Get those blood tests ready!

Jaron (Colorado Springs)

RAFA my brother jordan and i are huge fans of ya (trying to get in thread so i can show him)---anyways, all this talk about Cintron being big puncher, does he have a chance to get close enough vs. Punisher to land one?

Dan Rafael
  (3:59 PM)

I think so. Kermit is a strong guy and Williams isn't hard to find. I think Kermit can land some shots for sure.

Tim (Atlanta)

For anyone to attended the Mosley vs. Mayweather fight in theaters, how was the attendance?

Nick (Sacramento, CA)

WBC: We're Boxing's Cancer

Chris (Nashville)

I'm sure you can't give specific fights, but can the freaks tell me the best place to buy fights for my collection?

Dan Rafael
  (3:59 PM)

I honestly don't know because I have never bought any of my fights.

Kent (St Catharines)

DTM, did you ever complete your HBO fight collection? If I remember correctly from a chat a couple of years ago you where missing a couple fights. What fights were they?

Dan Rafael
  (4:00 PM)

Still working on it.

Tom (Brielle, NJ)

I heard Winky vs. Sergio Mora is a possibility?

Dan Rafael
  (4:01 PM)

It was a fight GB was thinking about trying to do originally, but it has moved on to somethng else because apparently Winky wasn't too interested in the fight.

Koichi (NYC)

Of the 10,000+ fights you own on dvd or tape, which would you say you've watched the most or is that an impossible question to answer?

Dan Rafael
  (4:02 PM)

Impossible.

David (Houston)

Do you think Margarito will be a force in boxing again?

Bryant (Pitt)

Dan next month you have Aydin/TBD in Turkey, are there any potential opponents?

Dan Rafael
  (4:04 PM)

Really don't know. I'll see how he does tomorrow. -- that's the answer to the Margarito question. As for Aydin, have not heard any names other than Randall Bailey mentioned but not sure it's serious.

Winky Wright (the year 2032)

I'm still waiting for a bigger fight.

dave (detroit)

10,000? wow. it must be hard to locate a specific fight.

Dan Rafael
  (4:06 PM)

It's way more than 10,000 fights. But it is easy to locate anything. I have everything in a very detailed data base.

Jose Chatterman ((WCBC Headquarters))

Dan, since you see fit to refuse to pay your chat box sanctioning fee, I am stripping you of your chat box title. Also, I am awarding you the Chat Box Emeritus title, you a fee you can challenge for the chat box interim title which will lead to a future shot for the chat box title.... wait, um... congratulations?

Art from California [via mobile]

Look forward to the chat every week. Thanks for doing it. If floyd and pac dont fight each other and go on to fight 2 or 3 against other opponents who do you think would get more heat pac or floyd?

Dan Rafael
  (4:07 PM)

I think both will get crushed in the court of public opinion but it will depend on why the talks fall apart, if they do.

Steve (Minneapolis)

What are you gonna do when the form of media you have all those fights on becomes obsolete?

Dan Rafael
  (4:08 PM)

Move to the next one. I still have thousands of VHS that work perfectly fine and play perfect.

chuzen (st. louis)

has richard schaeffer given you any more information since that chat he joined us on about putting out past golden boy fights on dvd?

Dan Rafael
  (4:10 PM)

No, but I will have to ask him about that.

Dan Rafael
  (4:10 PM)

OK, Freaks thanks for the chat this week. Enjoy the fights this weekend and make sure to check out the notebook and schedule and blogs. I'll be on FNF tonight as well. Talk to you next week from NYC, where I will be for Khan-Malignaggi. Peace.
