Mike (Chattown)

Being a life long Titans fan, i find myself either being over optimistic, or crushingly over critical. Right now i feel optimistic about where the team is headed, especially in regards to the defense really developing into a long term solid unit. The offense has potential, but so much depends on the development, consistency and production of VY, Jared Cook and the recieving core. What aspect of titans football are u feeling optimistic about? What aspect are u feeling overly critical about?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:02 PM)

Good about CJ and run game. Bad about so much simultaneous turnover from quality veterans.

Jason (San Diego)

Do you think the Titans will be affected adversly by the lost practice time due to the flooding in Nashville? By the looks of the pictures, the practice facility looked like there was some kind of miracle preventing water from entering. It's amazing to look at the practice facility like an island.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:03 PM)

They'll miss a week of workouts, tops. No OTAs going on right now.

Eric (Greencastle, IN)

How do you see the Indpls Cols O-Line shaping up with the changes/losses? Are they really trying to get bigger to run the ball better?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:03 PM)

They keep suggesting they're not, but their acquisitions suggest they are. Only lock is Saturday at center, I think.

david garrard (jax jags) [via mobile]

With a more hungry receiving corps. An o-line who is improving and a defense with some pro bowl veteren presence I see us improving tremendously remember before our 4 game skid we were in contention I think we bust out this year. I'm going to throw up some impressive numbers as well. Oh don't forget mojo.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

Yes, the hunger of a group with unproven talent is usually what throws it over the top.

justin gladhill (indianapolis)

What is the biggest thing the colts need to do to stay on top in the afc south again?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

Keep Manning upright.

Nick (Alfred NY)

How much confidence do you have in Jason Jones? He had a solid year in 2008 and played ok when he was on the field in '09. How do you think the playing time breaks down at DT this year with he, Tony Brown, and Marks?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

I presume Jones starts next to Brown, with Marks ahead of Haye.

JD (Houston)

Considering the Texans were a top 5 rush D after week 3 last year after inserting Pollard, and Cushing getting his feet under him. Now, you have DC in his second year, with additions via draft, players getting more comfortable, more experience,etc,etc... How do you see this Texans D faring this year after ending up # 13 despite that horrid start to last year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

I think they can be solid against the run. Don't like them a lot against the pass -- Eugene Wilson needs to be upgraded and none of those corners are proven enough for me. If things go well, Jackson and Glover play great and it could be a top 10 defense.

Nick (Hibbing, MN)

Any chance one of the big reasons CJ is pushing for a big contract extension now is because it's an uncapped year, and he (or his agent) think the cap is coming back sooner rather than later?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

Cap won't get in the way of his payday when his time comes. Starts get paid.

Edward (Dallas, TX)

Considering that the Texans had Dreesen, Hill, and Casey already on the roster at TE, then drafted Dickerson and Graham, then signed Gaines from free agency, would you take that as an indicator that the Texans are not at all confident in Owen Daniels' ability to return to prior form after his third ACL tear?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

I think it's more about a long-term contract issue with Daniels than about this year.

clay (cruise ship on Pacific Ocean)

I saw that Metro Center is closed. Are the Titans alowwed in??

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

If it's not open yet, it' not open to them. What sense would that make? It's too dangerous for the public, but you need to watch film or lift weights? OK, right this way. Seriously?

Dave (Canada)

Did AFC South headquarters have any flood damage?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

Thankfully no. Two trees down is all, messing with Finley's fence. We're not far from people who were much less fortunate and need a lot of help.

Finley (via mobile)

Hey, you know, we can skip my baths for a while to help conserve water. I don't mind taking one for the team!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

Let's face it, you weren't having a lot of baths as it was. As Governor you will need to ramp that up.

Edward (Dallas, TX)

Considering that the Texans drafted Ben Tate, added Wade Smith through free agency, and will have Mike Brisiel & Steve Slaton healthy again, do you see the Texans run game improving significantly this year or will they again be near the bottom of the league in this area?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:11 PM)

Oh I think it has to be better. Tate and the interior competition will make it so. We'll have to see how Slaton comes back from the neck surgery. Doesn't need to be a top 10 rush offense to be very effective. Just compliment the passing offense, while converting some short-yardage and goal-line situations.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:11 PM)

Dave -- Thanks for asking. by the way.

George (tenn)

Hi Paul. This time of year is lazy , there's not football , just bla bla bla . what do you think about Kenny Britt's out of shape?. is that a problem? what about rookie wr williams?Cheers

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

Way too early to make a big deal about it. Would presume he busts it for two or three weeks and in on the field for next OTA.

JD (Houston)

It seems to me this building through the draft philosophy by the Texans is going to start paying off for the long term. Jacoby Jones, Kasey Studdard, and a couple other players are the only major Free Agents next offseason, and Mario Williams is the only one in 2012. I see this Texans team set for sometime. What you say? Who has the brightest future in the South currently?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

Did great work locking up DeMeco Ryans. Definitely young and talented and doing pretty well building from within. Their problem is their tough division and an inability to win in it.

Eric Cox (Madison, WI)

Could the Colts have any interest in Adalius Thomas? Was his 2009 campaign really as disappointing as some people suggest? Is that because he is on the downhill or simply due to the way he was used, injuries, etc.? Thanks.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

Every fan in the league, seeing a recognizable name released, concludes that guy could help his team. a) Colts basically don't bring in outsiders and b) who says he's what they need?

Paul (Indy)

Which Colts rookie(including Undrafted FA's) do you see contributing the most and/or possibly having a chance to start?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:16 PM)

They really weren't looking to fill any starting holes. OT might have been one and they didn't touch it, so they are happy with what they have, didn't like draft options there better than other stuff, or (likely) both. Hughes will play as third DE, Thomas could be in nickel or dime, Eldridge will play. I'd say Eldridge could be biggest impact from the start.

Dave (Canada)

From what I understand about the Titans defense; the Ends line up wide in order to funnel ball carriers to the Tackles. If this is correct shouldn't they be using bigger DT's that Jones and Brown?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

The linebackers are involved as well. And they line up wide to rush from wide as well.

Craig (Memphis)

Seeing how the LP Field's football field was covered in water is that field going to have to completly replaced? Is that going to affect the Titans game schedule is that field can't get replaced before opening weekend?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

Gets replaced annually after big country music festival every summer anyway. It's not going to be an issue.

Gil (Urban Jacksonville)

You expressed concern over Terrance Knighton's weight while observing him in mini-camp last weekend. Was this just a visual assessment or did he look to you like he was playing "heavier" in drills?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

More A than B. But if his butt is giant, how could he be playing anything but heavier?

Jonathan (Jacksonville, FL)

Bigger shock, the Texans failing to take the next step and get into the playoffs or Jacksonville getting a Wild Card

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

To me it'd be the Jags. It's about quarterbacks as much as ever, and Houston's is much better than Jacksonville's.

Kevin Costner (Hollywood)

Do you think that I could help bring national media attention to the flood if I begin filming Waterworld 2 in downtown Nashville?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

I think it would be a great help and it couldn't go down in history as any worse than the original, right?

Roger (Charlotte)

Do you see the Titans situation with the flooding in Nashville similar to the situation the Saints faced with the flooding in New Orleans from Hurricane Katerina? The flooding in Nashville looks horrible.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:20 PM)

It's bad and in places I am sure it's comparable. But two very different things and Katrina way worse in loss of life and property damage.

jason (chesapeake)

thanks for taking the time, paul. there are a few people with the jags i'm really interested to see step up this year, one of them being jarret dillard. but how likely do you think it is for mccown to get a starting gig? i read he is throwing very accurately in minicamp, and the few games he played with the bucs, i thought he looked strong.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:21 PM)

He looked good for the Bucs? Really? I must have missed that. I think Luke would have to be great and Garrard terrible in the preseason for a change to happen. Talked to Dillard who I like too.

Ryan (San Diego)

How the heck do you rank the Chargers 9th and the Jets 4th? You are insane...lets see, one of the best qbs in the game and one of the worst. Good call

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

Same one guy killing me over Chargers since power rankings came out. Like I've said in our emails -- I have consistently over-ranked them only to see them underachieve. Were you writing to apologize when I had them second or fourth and they wound up undeserving?

Spencer (Kansas)

Every since "The Edge" has left the Colts have had a lackluster few years in the running game. Any chance that within the next few years the Colts bring in someone who can pound the ball and not just be a reciving back?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:23 PM)

They just brought in Donald Brown last year. He will be good. It's more line and blocking than the backs, I believe.

Gil (Urban Jacksonville)

Do you think Brad Meester makes it to the Jags' 53-man roster?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

Haven't checked the money part. Could depends on the waiver wire/ cuts elsewhere. I am not positive Meester's the guy who will be out.

Rivers McCown (Houston, TX)

Jacoby Jones or Kevin Walter: who would the Texans benefit most from starting?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

I didn't know there was a question about Walter. He's their second-best receiver for sure.

Gil (Urban Jacksonville)

There are rumors that Derek Cox may be making the move to left cornerback, while Rashean Mathis moves to the right side. What's your take on the possibility and logistics of such a move?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

I don't think it's a huge deal. If he's your best guy, I'd like him to go with the opponent's best receiver where ever he is.

Mike (Ohio)

I know you're a baseball guy too, so I thought I'd ask: What's your opinion on the guy in Philly getting tased?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:26 PM)

Stay off the field.

Shaquille (South Carolina)

As a huge packers fan, what are our chances of making it to the NFC Championship game

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

How well will the offensive line play? If it's good, I like them a lot.

Jason (Murfreesboro)

How many receivers are the Titans going to keep on their roster this year? Out of this list who's the odd man (men) out? Washington, Gage, Britt, Hawkins, Williams, Mariani

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:28 PM)

Williams for sure, I would think. Hawkins and Mariani will be guys to watch closely in camp.

Wilson (IL)

Paul what did you think about Fat Lendale's comment saying that the Titans 0-6 start was because they did not give him the ball more?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:28 PM)

That's not what he said. But what he said, which is on the blog, was nonsensical.

Ryan (San Diego)

That depends how you do your rankings? Are you ranking on best teams or ones you think will win the Super Bowl in that order? You're really going to tell me a 9-7 team that was lucky to make the playoffs last year is the 4th best team? Really?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

Best. I rank them in order of who I think is best. Lucky to make the playoffs, WHERE THEY BEAT YOUR TEAM. Also have added more than you. Let it go.

Dustin (Stanford CA)

How are the young members of the Titans offensive line looking (Kropog, Durand, Otto)? They did not draft anyone new which I presume means they like their depth...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

Any one who tells you they can tell you how second string O-linemen are looking of of an OTA practice is lying.

John Rich (blocking the sun)

I think I need to build a new house someplace safe from future flooding. Any property for sale around you, PK?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

None at all. You are a fool.

Dustin (Stanford CA)

Every year some nfl teams are surprisingly good and some are surprisingly bad. Any guess on who might surprise this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:33 PM)

I don't think the Bengals will be nearly as good. I think Chicago will get Lovie fired. I think Denver will get McDaniels fired.

Ryan (San Diego)

Hahahaha, best that is hilarious. I'll be here to remind you of that pick after every INT sanchez throws. And yes, if Manning plays the whole game they don't even make the playoffs and yes they were extremely lucky to beat the Chargers. They won by 3 and the kicker had 3 missed fgs. Got blown out the following week

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:35 PM)

It was hilarious to watch SD lose early in the playoffs yet again? No matter what happens, here are some truths: Last week I felt like the Jets were fourth and the Chargers were ninth. It's inarguable because it's my OPINION. The team that won won, and the team that lost lost. You sure have a lot of excuses.

Joey Marchy (Urban Jacksonville)

PK, I won't lie. I've been having Tyson Alualu DROY dreams again. Why do I feel like we always have something to prove to everyone? The NFL, The US, The Haters, The Other GMs, The Mel Kipers. Is this the year things start to get right in Jacksonville?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:35 PM)

A defensive tackle isn't going to win DROY. He won't have the stats.

Edward (Dallas, TX)

Do you see DT continuing to be an issue for the Texans next season, and will Okoye ever live up to his first round pick status?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:36 PM)

His clock is ticking and I expect Earl Mitchell to get some time in that spot.

Stuart (VA)

Is Alterraun Verner really worth all the hype I've been reading...he was a 4th round and shouldn't be expected to compete right away, right?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:36 PM)

What hype? Looks like a good pick to me. I don't think they'd start him opening day. I do think they could in Week 6.

Stuart (VA)

Who do you see staring opposite Finnegan this year? Maybe a change of scenery will help out Hill, he was highly rated out of school?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:38 PM)

McCourty or Mouton at the start. Verner later, possibly.

Edward (Dallas, TX)

Do you think the Texans made the right choice in taking Kareem Jackson instead of Kyle Wilson?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:38 PM)

I don't think so, but they are far more qualified than I to decide.

Tomwit NJ [via mobile]

Who is the best former SCARLET KNIGHT in NFL? Kenny Britt or Ray Rice or Sean Ohara?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:39 PM)

Rice. I am a Rutgers Prep alum.

Randy (Houston)

Do you see the Texan defense strong enough and the improved offense making a big difference in the division

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

They should be better. But NFC East is tougher than NFC West from last year, and they've got to get a lot better in the division.

Gary Brackett (Rutgers)

PK, what about me?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

You're best. But he didn't mention you. I was picking from his list.

JC (TN)

What does that say about Mouton, a 3rd round pick last year, and Tye Hill, a first round pick just a few years ago, that you think Vernon could be starting by week 6? I know your answer will be "both", but is that more of a criticism of the first two, or a vote of confidence in Vernon?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:43 PM)

Lots of third-round picks aren't great players in Week 6 of their career and still turn out to be players. If they wind up not liking a third-rounder from last year better than a fourth-rounder this year, I don't see it as a major indictment. The indictment there is their misread on Mouton as a returner.

Clay (Duval)

What's up Paul, give me your assessment of Tyson please? And for that matter some of the other 3 D-line rookies. I know it's underwear practice, but did anything stand out?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:43 PM)

He's very quick. That's about all you can tell at what I was watching.

Simon Kuharsky (via mobile)

Dad, Finley says I have to start drinking formula made with Orange Gatorade. Is that true?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

Don't believe everything that puppy tells you.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

Hit me with a good Primary Complaint in the next 15 minutes, you could see it on the blog tomorrow.

JaMarkus Howard (splashville)

can I count on you to do all 4 hours in the morning on the radio friday?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:45 PM)

Two or three.

Dave (Canada)

Jeff Fisher's job is generally regarded as the safest in the NFL. How many more times can 87 year old Bud Adams watch a good team fall short of winning the elusive Super Bowl before he makes a change?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:45 PM)

He didn't do that last year. Wasn't a good team.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

This thing where owner age is a determining factor is funny to me. You think the youngest owner in the league wants a Super Bowl less than Ralph Wilson or Bud Adams?

Clay travis (splashville)

Are you worried about escaped Pirahnas eating you?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

I am not. Made for a funny conversation, though.

Jason (Murfreesboro)

Since this year is uncapped would the 30% rule still apply to CJ's situation?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

Yeah, that's kind of the whole point.

Zach (Nashville)

I liked the piece on Marks. Do you think though that it is wise for him to look at game tape of so many different Pro DTs. maybe its just me,. but it could mess with his overall mechanics as a player. I would think sticking to one pro dt, your own team's archives, or your opponents tape to study would be better then mixing. Just wondered what your thoughts were?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:48 PM)

I think Washburn knows what Marks should or shouldn't be watching. And I don't think watching good players is ever really bad.

jake (indy)

was pat angerer drafted to compete with philip wheeler for the starting OLB spot?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:49 PM)

More, I think, to be the next Brackett. But he could press Wheeler, who's hardly a lack.

CJ2K (Orlando)

PK,KCollins will make $5mil this year, 10 times more than me. Donnie Nickey, who normally only plays special teams will make $1mil this year, twice what I'll make. How is that fair?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:50 PM)

Everyone gets his turn. You'll get yours and make those guys look poor. They are playing for what they signed for, as should you.

Justin (NYC)

Do you think that the Redskins wanted more than the Titans 3rd round pick for Haynesworth, or that the Titans just wanted to go in a different direction. It seems that putting Haynesworth next to Morgan could potentially yield the same results as when he was next to KVB. Why not make the move for him?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:51 PM)

I'm sure the Skins wanted more than a third.

Mad Mike ( Houston) (Texas)

Paul: How do you see the kicker competition shaking out here in Houston?.......MM

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:51 PM)

Rackers.

Edward (Dallas, TX)

Arian Foster appeared to show some promise towards the end of last season for the Texans with back to back games of 97 yards and 119 yards against respectable defenses. Do you think he will be included in the carry rotation this year, or does the return of Slaton and the drafting of Tate leave him riding the pine?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:51 PM)

Maybe some. I think it's a huge mistake to count on him for a lot. He needs to be a bonus not an expectation.

Blake (Bay City, TX)

hey Paul, sorry to see all the floods i went on vacation to nashville last year and it was my favorite one ever beautiful city, i saw comparisons of trindon holliday to dante hall...what do you think?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:52 PM)

Best case scenario, he could be along those lines.

Justin (NYC)

Thanks for a really short answer to a question that is on most Titan fans' minds. Wouldn't getting Haynesworth back at the salary level he would be at worth a 3rd and a player or two, even one of the young DT's?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

Wouldn't the Redskins -- moving to a 3-4 -- actually have to want the player from the Titans 3-4? Whatever they wanted for Haynesworth was too rick for the Titans.

Joseph (DC)

I know we're still a long way from getting the Indy WRs situation figured out, but what's your opinion of the Colts incoporating a little more 5 wide with Wayne, Garcon, Collie, Clark and Gonzo?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:54 PM)

Once in a while, not as any sort of primary set.

Dave (Canada)

Primary Complaint: Owner age (you've gotta admit that he knows his time to win a super bowl is running out)

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

Already wrote it down!

otis (nashville)

i know the jags are not set on safety but if the d-line plays better is it possible the secondary will be better this year..i mean they do have Cox and Mathis

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

And the Texans and Colts do have players who can find the middle of the field and still take advantage of the safeties.

George (Indy)

Do players only have 1 helmet or several? Seems like a pain to carry one from the practice facility to the stadium for every game. Do they rewear jerseys and pants?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:58 PM)

You don't think these guys move their own equipment do you? They put must have stuff in a bag, equipment guys add helmets, jerseys and fill lockers for them to show up to. Equipment guys have backup everything at the ready.

Mo (Maryland)

Are any FS out there you think will help the Texans?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:00 PM)

Not right now. Maybe if Rams release Atogwe?

Jason (Murfreesboro)

Your thoughts on the Titans LB situation. Seems like they're really thin there and if someone goes down it could be another long season.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:01 PM)

Thin? They have Thornton, Tulloch, Witherspoon, McGath and Curran, who can all play.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:01 PM)

Not that the position won't be an issue. But they have players.

Mad Mike ( Houston) (Texas)

Paul: Will you be at the Texans OTA's later this month? If so, what are the primary things you will be looking at to see where they may stack up in this upcoming season? Thanks........MM

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:02 PM)

Mid June, I hope.

Nick (Indianapolis)

Who wins the Week 1 matchup, Colts or Texans? Texans are closing that gap a little more each year.

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:04 PM)

Until the Texans don't blow a lead against the Colts, why expect them to win that game?

Paul Kuharsky
  (4:04 PM)

Well folks, that was fast. Thanks for coming. Keep an eye on Nashville.
