  (3:05 PM)

Due to technical difficulties, Jesse's chat will be delayed until 2:30 CT. Sorry for delay. He'll be live from Vancouver shortly.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:31 PM)

Hello from Gm Place in vancouver. game 3 just hours away. both teams have finished their morning practices and meeting the media. thanks for your patience. Lets get to the questions

Scott (Springfield)

Not feeling too confident after these first two games. Good thing we got the edge in nets.....oh wait we don't. Nice call there.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:32 PM)

I think Niemi has been ok...not the best, not the worst..It was Van with tons of pp chances in game 2 and all they scored on was 5 on 3. Hes been ok. Last time I checked the series is 1-1. :)

alex (chicago IL)

I have noticed Keith not playing well, have you noticed it too?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:33 PM)

yes, several people have pointed that out both in acandian media and u.s. hes not physically tired. maybe mentally? reminds me of hossa a little in that even not at his best he still contributes

BJ (Chicago)

Wow! The boys really turned it on in game 2. Reminded all of us how dominating they can be. Can you talk a little about Troy Brouwer? Any idea what's going on with him? He hasn't been the same player since his family issues. Hate to see him scratched but he's leaving Q little choice right now. Thaks.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:35 PM)

Yeah, Ive talked a lot about him on the radio recently...he has no confidence right now. hes always been fragile, for lack of a better word, in the confidence area. maybe that turnover in game 1 against nash sent him into a shell. good guy. he knows hes been bad. not sure how u get out of it at this point

Chioke Hassan (Baltimore,Md)

Dear Jesse What is it going to take for the Blackhawks to advance in the playoffs?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:36 PM)

More play like the last 50 minutes of agme 2...how bout 60 minutes.

Josh Martin (Freeport, IL)

Jesse I loved the response from the hawks in game 2. I don't like that they need to have their backs against a wall to wake up but you can't argue with the results. That being said now that Vancouver has the last change how do you think that will impact the Chicago d-men as far as their pairings if at all?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:37 PM)

Good question. Will be interesting to watch keith/seabs jump over the boards after sedins do. the tough thing is the 2nd period when you have the long change. i think any forward line can potentially check them but not any D pair...chess match.

John (Chicago)

Brouwer's struggles are mystifying! Is he a scratch tonight with Buff moving up and Hendry back on D?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:37 PM)

99% likely

Curt (Chicago)

When will the gloves come off in this series, and what players will be involved?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:39 PM)

I could give a long answer..canuks are trying to avoid dumb penalties so they are playing real careful. I cant tell you when it will happen but there probably will be a penalty marred game along the way. Burish will be invloved..maybe burrows

Jordan (Frankfort)

On the series page on espn, it says that Henrik Sedin has an apparent groin injury. Any further info on this? I assume he is going to play.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:40 PM)

Yeah, he fell awkwardly on the winning goal. not sure how much it will hamper him. he practiced this morn

The Dish (St. Bonaventure/Chicago)

Hi Jesse, I am very DISHappointed with the way Sopel has been playing this series. VS. Nashville he was everywhere... could the aches be catching up to him?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:41 PM)

Not the aches...the foot speed and quickness

kevin (chgo)

Jesse, why is it that the offensive superstars on this team are being shut down? All I heard before this series started was that the Hawks had to be concerned with the Canucks' offense but that the defense was suspect and yet the big 3 of Chgo have done absolutely nothing...and very little to nothing the previous series. Isnt this where they should be shining? You see the other teams' stars always making plays and scoring...what gives?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:42 PM)

They came out in last series after Game 3...its two games...they're getting chances but its not always going to happen. sharp has been fine. lets look at the long haul here. they will emerge. not everyone can score every game

Josh (Chicago)

What do the Hawks have to do in this series to keep Vancouver under control?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:43 PM)

Have the puck more than them. I know it sounds simple but it is key. Hawks dont play well in thier own zone for long periods of time.

Big C (Lincoln Park)

Jesse - how do we avoid these rough starts? We look jittery and almost nervous when the puck drops. And just curious, why does the Bolland line always start games? Lastly, any plans to go skins in the limo with the guys this week?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:46 PM)

Look, Game 1 started fine, later in the first it went bad..game 2 did not go well early. they say they were "over-hyped" to make amends..most of the season they have played well in the first. these 2 games, not so much. bolland's line is a defensive line so i assume it was to combat what vigneault was sending out there.cant rememeber. here hawks will send startes in first so i expect a def. line to start

John (Chicago)

I thought Bryan Bickell looked good on the first line, why the change? just needed more energy guys? any chance we see him back this series?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:46 PM)

Not sure if hes fast enough for this series..and yes, they wanted the energy guys. not like u cant find someone to play w/ kane, toews

Andy (Old Town)

Can I make a prediction that Shane O'Brien gets a dumb/costly penalty tonight? Seems like hes chompin at the bit to do something stupid.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:47 PM)

Great observation. I would agree with you

Stacy (Chicago)

Hi Jesse, While I was very happy with the effort in Game 2 (minus the first 7 minutes), I still think the Hawks need to crash the net more. Luongo had a very strong game, but he did leave some juicy rebounds out there but no one was there to clean house. Your thoughts?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:48 PM)

I thought they crashed pretty well in game 2. Ladd was in Luongo's face a lot. Could always use more..sometimes u crash and the rebound eludes u but i think they're doing it a good amount

Al (Chicago)

Still playoffs this year... I know, I know. BUT, looking ahead what do you see this team looking like next year? What RFAs and UFAs do you see not being around in October? Who has the most potential to be traded?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:50 PM)

no burish, no eager, not sure on ladd or niemi, prob no madden, steeg tradeable, so is buff, MAYBE sharp if they are forced to. just some thoughts

Andy (Old Town)

What type of penalty can they call for snowing the goalie like Burish and Eager did to Luongo?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:50 PM)

Believe it would be unsportsmanlike conduct or maybe they fudge it and call delay of game...something like that

Kevin (Minneapolis)

What's the mindset of the team right now? Confident after playing well the last 55 minutes of Game 2 or a little down because of splitting at the UC?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:52 PM)

Pretty confident i think. They still know they're best is better than most and prob vancouver. just have to bring it more...but that finish was pretty good, even if a bit fortunate so confidence is ok

Josh (Chicago)

What do the Blackhawks need to do to help contain Vancouver in this roadtrip?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:52 PM)

Sedins scare me at home. Stop them..they will get thier goals on Lou

The Dish (St. Bonaventure/Chicago)

Why is Chicago struggling so much on PP? Was Van not the worst team in the first round on giving up goals?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:53 PM)

They havent had THAT many chances but it should be better.. i cant answer what the prob is. It was better on the road all year so I expect the same here.

Steve G (Northbrook )

Jesse..word is that Brower is out for tonights game. Does that mean we can expect Bickell to be out there tonight? I think he's a nice player that can fit on any line out there.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:53 PM)

already mentioned unless Q changes his mind...buu will move up fromt to start and hendry will back in..so no bickell

Jesse Rogers
  (3:54 PM)

Buff that is

Tim (Chicago)

What was the biggest difference between Game 1 and Game 2 for the Hawks?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:55 PM)

Well, in terms of how it played out. They got beind in both but in Game 2 they stuck with thier game plan. Sounds cliche bu its what they believe. In other words, no early on desperate panic..Just keep playing, and the talent will hopefully get you back in it. Not always but it did in Game 2. Why they got down is debateable

Tiffanie (Chicago)

What's the atmosphere like in the dressing room? I know these are professionals and they tell media they aren't worried now that we're tied 1-1. Are they confident? Did the win help and are they ready to keep the energy going like they did in the final 55 minutes of Game 2?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:57 PM)

As I just posted, I think so. Remember though, I know these guys pretty well but on or off the record you get a snippett of what they are feeling but I think they are ready to take it to Van. Road games against good opponents inherently make you focus in and bear down. They've done that for the most part this year: in det., in pitt, in van (once), so i think they do..game 3 in nash was unispiring but maybe that was the opponent though its no excuse

Corey (Chicago)

Jesse, Do you think Hossa's tough stretch against Vancouver is due more to Van focuses on him more so than the other main scorers? He seems to be getting surrounded every time he gets the puck.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:58 PM)

Yeah, maybe. I still think he does things to help the team, especially on defense but he's a focus. hes going to have a strong game tonight. take that to the bank! maybe...

Kevin (Minneapolis)

Anything noticeable in the skate around? Other than the Brouwer/Buff/Hendry shake-up?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:59 PM)

Nope. that was about it. eager and burish skated with madden...best drills Ive ever seen! at least since yesterday's drills.

KD (Chicago)

Ladd-Bolland-Havlat were the key to beating Vancouver last year. Neither Ladd nor Bolland are playing as well. Could pairing them with Hossa help? Would Hossa be willing to play that defense-first game that Marty seemed to relish?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:00 PM)

They've tried the Bolland/Hossa thing. Not working cause Bolland not the same. I like sharp and hossa together as a 2nd option. Disagree about Ladd. Think he's been fine. Havlat didnt relish any defense first. That line just found chemistry on both ends

John ((Chicago))

Q's gotta be very disappointed with all the penalties from game 2. Heard that the refs warned our guys about the snow shower on Luongo last game. Do you think they'll be less aggressive in front of Luongo based on that?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:01 PM)

No, I think they will be more aggressive on the refs..they didnt like some of the calls...seabrook knocking the net off was a tough call already down a man..hawks wont stop crashing.

Michael (Downers Grove)

Do the players agree that they have developed a pattern of slow starts in games? How important do you think intensity is at the begining of the game is vs. how you finish?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:02 PM)

I think its important all game. In my opinion they oonly had one bad start: game 2 and by 7 min they were better, Game 1 came down to two bad plays by sopel and one by niemi not a whole team thing

Joe (Charlottesville VA)

Jesse, to get the high energy going from the 1st shift instead of 5 minutes into the game, can you suggest to Q to start the game with the Madden, Burish and Eager line.

Jesse Rogers
  (4:03 PM)

I could but he wont listen to me. Would you if you were coach? lol. maybe they start tonight but I doubt it

Ari (Chicago)

As we all know, the odd games of a series are most important. Hawks were able to overcome a 1-2 record in these vs. Nashville, but I feel it is imperative they perform better in these games (3,5,7*) if they are to prevail. Thoughts?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:05 PM)

Someone aasked henrik sedin if tonight's game is critical. c'mon, we've seen many times come back from 2-1 or go on to win leading 2-1. this isnt a critical game. its one more step to winning the series. i mean every game in a series is critical, really but must win and all thaat..no

Curt (Chicago)

Can Detroit rebound against San Jose to make things interesting.

Jesse Rogers
  (4:07 PM)

Yes, they can. They've played 2 ot, is that right? anything can happen. close out games are hard..

Marcus (Dallas)

Is it me, or does it seem like that Hawks have been struggling more than normal on faceoffs this post season?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:08 PM)

They have, at times. Dont have the numbers in front of me. Toews good for the most part, others need to pick it up..Its a part of thier game

Joe (Charlottesville VA)

Is Boyton's face still a problem. The game or so he played with that mask, he looked out of sorts. I feel he could clear the front of the net a bit better than Henry and he can't be much slower than Sopel; but that's not stopping Q from playing him. Is he just not healthy enough yet?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:09 PM)

No, he's healthy..I think they are concerned about foot speed and Q just likes Sopel..his smarts and battling and of course blocking shots

Dave (Glendale Heights)

Hey Jesse...is Luongo thawed out from the snow shower that Eager and Burish gave him in game 2?? Campbell was quoted as saying that they were warned about that by the refs. Were you surprised a penalty wasn't called there? and if it happens again by either team, do you expect a penalty call?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:11 PM)

It will be called next time..I was maybe a little susrpised..I think each situation is different. If you go out of your way, thats one thing but this one they were craching and he was covering the puck out of the crease. Still could have been called.

Jason (Chicago)

What's your overall prediction after seeing the first 2 games for this series? Assuming we win, how do you like us stacking up against San Jose?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:12 PM)

Love how they stack up against san jose. I tweeted that out right after the game. sign up now @espnchihawks. bottom line: they are quicker than the sharks both in decisions and play

Brian (Chicago,IL)

why in the world would they trade Sharp? he is one of the few people that have been consistent all year and in the playoffs?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:13 PM)

Its not something they want to do but sometimes you have to do things you dont want to do and they have to get under the cap so if others teams wont play ball to thier liking for steeg or whoever, might have to go to sharp..thats all

Tom (Northbrook)

Luongo seemed to have played "up" alot to cut down angles these last two games and Sharp took full advantage of that with the shorty. Do you think Bobby will stay closer to the crease or keep on challenging all comers?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:13 PM)

I think that all depends on the situation. He did get burned bad by sharp. Goalies like to come out, for the most part but that can expose them

Andy (Old Town)

Do you know if we are gonna see the Green Men tonight? I hope the Hawks have been warned about them

Jesse Rogers
  (4:14 PM)

We are posting a story about them right now on the site. Hawks know about them. Wont be any issues

Curt (South Loop)

What have the hawks done in the past to shake Luongo? Luongo has looked good in the first 2 games of this series? Do you expect to see Luongo shaken in this series?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:15 PM)

Lets stop actig like he is god. They got 3 against him last game. They need to crash and keep firing. They'll be ok.I dont think he'll be shaken just beaten!

Mike (Wheaton)

Are the Blackhawks prepared to get more physical now that the series is tied? Read a lot of crap from O'Brien about how he needs to throw his weight around starting tonight.

Jesse Rogers
  (4:17 PM)

Yes they are. I think O'brien has been more outspoken about this than anyone. I think the physical stuff gets overblown. Play hockey. If there is a guy to check, check him. Winning board battles with physical play is more importnat than anything. Thats been kind of even i think

Chinsky (Near North)

Using the Hawks/Nucks series as an example, would the NHL ever assign the same officiating crew to work the entire series? That way there is consistency in the calls (insert joke here) and the officials could spell it out to the players from the 1st game on.

Jesse Rogers
  (4:17 PM)

No they would not. U have a nother can of worms if you do that. Refs will be accused of carrying over grudges, etc.

Jay (Chicago)

You said earlier in the chat that the "Hawks dont play well in thier own zone for long periods of time." Is the solution as easy as using the boards to clear the defensive zone? Game 2 was better but the entire Nashville series they made blind center ice clearing attempts.

Jesse Rogers
  (4:18 PM)

Partly. They need to be quicker and smarter..but stay away from the middle unless its wide open. Thats big time dangerous.

Tiffanie (Chicago)

Where do you set the Over/Under on the "inadvertent" snow showers from Burish

Jesse Rogers
  (4:19 PM)

0. He reminded me today that he hasnt taken a 2 minute minor in either playoff year. But he didnt exclude a 5 minute one. :)

Jay (Chicago)

Would you agree that it seems if the Hawks are on their game, they are virtually unbeatable? But lately, they just haven't been consistently on their game (good game followed by bad game). This is the playoffs, how can they not show up to play their best every night?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:20 PM)

Yes, would agree. Hard to figure. Talked with Sharp about that today. He says give some credit to opponent which is true but he would like to see them put it together. I thikn they will in at least one of these games...just hoping they dont have to have another wake-up call and get down 2 games to 1 again

Tim (Chicago)

What about Kesler and Ladd? Any chance they'll put up their dukes?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:21 PM)

Possible but I cant predict. I doubt they will fight but could get chippy

steve (chicago)

how did you feel about the madden, eager, and burish line in game 2? they seemed to pump up the energy and intensity and looked really good.....are we going to see this continue?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:21 PM)

Yes. Im not in love with madden centering that line..I think he's being mis-used some but it worked good enough for me.

Eric (Chicago)

Jesse, I was watching Game 2 on CSN and heard the announcers comment on Niemi that if he plays in a stinker one game, the next game he comes back with a really good game. If that continues to happen, the Blackhawks lose the series 4-3, but with that being said, Niemi has to put together 4, 5, 6 games in a row where he keeps the Hawks in the game. Thoughts on the comments and Niemi all around?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:23 PM)

I dont know about that back and forth stuff. he was 6-0-1 at the end of the reg season. Unless u think they will sweep, well, there are going to be back and forth games. I think he's played as well as u can ask. Yes, game 1 was avg to bad with those rebounds but hes been good enough

Curt (Chicago)

Is Hendry ready to handle the Sedins?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:24 PM)

Lets hope hes ready but doesnt have to!

Stacy (Chicago)

Just curious, do all the boys that were brought up from Rockford this time of year, travel and practice with the team?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:25 PM)

some tavel, they dont practice on game days..actually havent seen any practice at all with team. maybe on their own. I know richmond is here, couple others..in case of injury form one game to next

Janice (Naperville)

Read that Darcy Hordichuk and Ryan Johnson likely to play for Canucks in Game 3. What can you tell us about those 2? Do you think they'll help us get more PP opportunities?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:26 PM)

I think that's vancouver's answer to eager/burish...vigneault was even more cryptic than Q is but I do think they will play. As for pp, i cant tell. Depends what their instructions are...

johnny (chi-town)

hawks in 6 or 7?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:26 PM)

Yes

Sarah (Chicago)

With Sharp now playing center, and the others moving down a line, any chance Fraser cracks the lineup this round?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:27 PM)

I would not say no but Ill go with doubtful..maybe 20-25% chance

Ben (The Office)

Are the boys enjoying the nightlife in Vancouver once again or in the playoffs is everything more regimented and the team more focussed on the task at hand? At this point do the Olympians just get their mail delivered to BC?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:28 PM)

Funny. They are watched very carefully. I think they are paying someone 8 bucks an hour to watch Kane..:) Players do take this time seriously on thier own, though.

KD (Chicago)

Disagree on your opinion of Ladd. 1 point, -3 and tied for 2nd in PIM so far in the playoffs. Not what you expect from a guy with a cup ring and former member of a dominating shut-down line. Of forwards, only Brouwer has worse stats.

Jesse Rogers
  (4:29 PM)

I was commenting on this series only. I thought he crashed the net well in game 2. Did not love him against Nash

Blake (Dekalb)

Any chance of seeing Kyle Beach this series? I saw a scenario on CommittedIndians.com that Beach could play in Brouwer's place. I would love to see the kid get a chance to play since he had 52 goals in the WHL this season. Maybe he could provide a spark.

Jesse Rogers
  (4:29 PM)

Hilarious.

Joe (Charlottesville VA)

Jesse, I feel that O'Brien (and Bieksa) are that close to snapping. All it takes is for the 'hawks to get a lead against them...which obviously has yet to happen early enough in the game. If the 'hawks can keep their cool, the refs may (sarcastically) start calling the game both ways for a change, and the 'hawks just might bag a few PP scores, especially on the road.

Jesse Rogers
  (4:30 PM)

Makes a lot of sense

Sean (Skokie)

Brian seems to conviently forget Sharps huge goal scoring droughts... Anyway, have you heard anything about any injury to Toews? I have heard rumors that he might be a little gimpy in one legs and it's slowing him down..

Jesse Rogers
  (4:30 PM)

Nope. Hes been banged around but dont see the gimpyness

Josh (Arlington Heights)

I am really surprised by the lack of rescpect being given to the Hawks opponents. The western conference is stacked this year with 7 team earning 100 points or more. No doubt the hawks have looked pretty bad at times but was anyone expecting them to go 16-0? Let's give some credit to Van and Nash. Both team know how to win.

Jesse Rogers
  (4:31 PM)

Yep

Zack (Chicago)

How can we avoid the long possessions from Vancouver. We could have easily been down 3 or 4 nothing, but thanks to some lucky bounces we stayed in it. Is it avoidable.

Jesse Rogers
  (4:31 PM)

Work harder. Win more board battles, especially. get the puck and then do their thing with it.

Brent (Lombard)

Really Random Question: Do any of the players have crazy traditions about what they eat before a game?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:33 PM)

I did a thing on supersitions back in nov. when they played on friday the 13th and im trying to remember...brouwer does a thing with penne pasta and four cheese texas toast or something i think? didnt know what that was..still dont. sopel's wife makes him the same meal. seabrook eats 7 m and m's i believe. thats weird

kevin (chgo)

I just dont see how you can be so optimistic and confident with this team. Since the olympics ended, this team has NOT looked anything close to the same team we saw out of the gates. The skating, passing, and fundamentals have been WAY off and they dont look as fluid. You keep saying how great the last 50 mins was that they played but why? They were down 2-1 with 3.5 minutes or so and were fortunate to tie the game. I just dont see it and I am pretty confident they lose the series...as is vegas putting them as favs now to take it down.

Jesse Rogers
  (4:36 PM)

You bring up some good points but its not just about being down with such and such left..they bombarded luongo and not just during third period panic time...was talking about this last night with other media members...how many canucks can "do special things". sedins? luongo?? kesler on defense...when the hawks are going..toes, kane, sharp, hossa, steeg. buff at times...keith. campbell. sharp's play was big time..steeger burying that shot was big time. so thats why. they just seem to need a push but there are no garuantees

Eric (Chicago)

Jesse is there more pressure on the Hawks at home with the raucous crowd or on the road, where they know the cheering is going against them?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:36 PM)

Def at home. Its why their pp is better on road, in my opinion

Adam (San Diego)

Does Luongo's hair look as greasey in real life as it does on tv?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:37 PM)

Kind of

Sean (Skokie)

Will the Q-stache be able to hide Sopel on the ice again tonight? Seems like using Buff in the swing role and letting him play a bit of D really helps Sopel from being exposed...

Jesse Rogers
  (4:38 PM)

Good question. I looked at my noted from when they shut out van up here 1-0 during reg season but I didnt see anything that stood out. Was d.sedin out for that one? cant remember now. anyway, thats the story of this game for me. if the sedins "get off", watch out.

Al (Chicago)

Let's get a prediction- who do you see being the east and west conference final games? And then who's in it for the Cup?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:39 PM)

I pikced Pitt over chicago at the beginnig of the year so Ill stay with it and hopefully be pleasantly wrong if the ycan pull the upset..i like chi over san if they play...and pitt over boston

Matt (Middletown, NJ)

Any chance Kim Johnson ever comes back? Or should he be considered finished for playoffs?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:40 PM)

Bunch of Johnsson questions. Notihng has changed, Havent seen him and dont expect him back.

Curt (Chicago)

The last couple years, there hasn't been a lot of love for Brian Campbell.Do you agree to Lebrun's assessment of the changing relationship between Hawk's fans and Brian Campbell? Are the boos gone or are they just quieter.I feel like his ability to break Nashville's forecheck was the difference as the 1st round moved along, he also had a very good game on Monday.

Jesse Rogers
  (4:41 PM)

I def think this year things have changed..lets see how he does for hte next 5.:)

Matt (North Suburbs)

Jesse- Will the effect of being in Vancouver for the first time this series have the same effect on them that it did in Nashville?

Jesse Rogers
  (4:42 PM)

Im hoping no since this is an elite opponent capable of huge goal outputs and its the 2nd round so even more at stake...thats my hope

Jesse Rogers
  (4:44 PM)

Ok, thats going to do it for now. Thanks all. Should be an interesting week here. Cant wait for game time. Follow me on twitter @espnchihawks. I'll give u lineup updates, etc. and u can vent back if u want! Ill be on espn 1000 i think at 5 pm 5:40 today live from GM place for a pregame report. and check out my blog..some pregame stuff there as well. thanks again. we are still early in this thing. pace yourself!

Jesse Rogers
  (4:44 PM)

that was 5 pm or 5:40
