Hey kids! A reminder you can follow me on Twitter - @MatthewBerryTMR. Let's get to it... As always, all subjects answered.
Fielder, please tell me you see signs of him turning it around ... and QUICKLY!
April '09: 7 runs, 3 HR, 17 RBI, .234April '10: 13 runs, 2 HR, 9 RBI, .244He'll be fine.
so you've been busy today: fantasy focus, chat, and TMR blog. Nice to see you do something productive. Harang, couple good starts with 6+ k's, few walks and 1 or less hr's... on his way back? ceiling for rest of the year?
I'm always busy. Sometimes you just don't see it. Besides, you haven't read the column yet - it may not be productive at all.Yeah, I actually had Harang as a bounce back sleeper candidate this year. That was looking like a bad call but he's seemed to turn it around this year. Think he'll get double digit wins, an ERA around 4 (just under or over) and above average K totals. Spot start in 10/12 tm mix for right now, an add in deeper where avail.
After 2 starts, Chacin has been lights out. 0 ER's 0.78 WHIP... think it's for real?
We'll see. Both starts have been on the road, so let's see how he does at Coors, which can still mess with young pitchers heads. Like him, obviously, but my concern is will he stick in the rotation when all the COL SP get healthy? But for what it's worth, I picked him up as a spot start for tonight against WSH at home.
Will grady turn it around, or cut bait and go with hawpe?
No, I don't think he will - talked about that in my column today. That said, unless you're playing in some mutated pussycat type league where you only start 3 OF, I wouldn't just drop him. Trade him - even if you have to take 50 cents on the dollar. Anything is better than nothing.
Who's the best starting pitcher on the DL? are any worth picking up and benching if your DL spot is taken?
I like Bedard slightly ahead of Brett Anderson
Since I'm mailing in the playoffs and looking forward to my payday this sumer, let's talk baseball! What did you think of Derek Holland yesterday? Worth picking up in standard leagues?
Like him - we discussed on today podcast. Yes, I'd grab him in 10 team leagues
Simon looking good as the Os closer. Time to drop Uehara?
Depends on size of league. Simon allowed two base runners, so it's not a 1-2-3 inning, but yes - he's certainly looking like he's got a decent size leash. In standard 10 team leagues, yes, you can safely dump Uehara
In terms of attention paid, rank your top 5 leagues. Also, do you do any H2H leagues?
My hometown 12 team AL and NL leagues (the ones I showed the old video from)are the first 2... then probably Tout Wars and 2 head to head leagues - one with a bunch of the other ESPN Fantasy Staff and one with friends.
A lot of the "stud" prospects are already taken in my keeper league. Best available out of Brett Wallace, Jeremy Hellickson, Jake Arrieta? Thanks.
I almost always take the position players over pitchers... I say Wallace
Wait, you're talking about baseball today? Nevermind.
So far no nonsense questions! What's a brother to do?
Make sure Garrett interviews me for your unauthorized biography.
There we go.
why no love for fausto carmona? He may not strike out a lot of guys but he has a ton of quality starts and a low BAA
He was a pre-season sleeper of both mine and Buster Olney's! Yes, the WHIP is a concern along with a lack of K's, but for deeper leagues, he's been terrific.
Why can't we get Baseball chats at least once a day? During Football season there were 2 chats everyday and no mention of Baseball....why so much love for Football.
Talk to the gang at SportsNation - I have no control over anything. But we have at least one fantasy chat a day, usually two, and all of them take baseball questions so I'm not sure what you are talking about. That said, NFL (and fantasy football) is much more popular than MLB and fantasy baseball. It's not even close.
Maybe you can ask the Jonas brothers what they think of Carlos Quentin? Maybe then my question will get answered...
NOW you're catching on. I still believe in the White Sox and feel their entire offense will turn it around. Believe it or not, Carlos i sactually taking more walks this year and he DOES have decent RBI #'s. I expect the avg to rise along with the power. Patience.
Did you go to Hebrew School growing up, and did you complain about having to go as much as I did?
I did not - I went a little around the time I was 12 to prep for my Bar Mitzvah, but otherwise, no, I dodged that bullet.
So much more luck involved with fantasy football. Baseball clearly the superior fantasy game. Agree?
I enjoy playing baseball much more, yes.
Why oh why are you interviewing the Jonas Brothers on the Podcast?
Why not is my question? It's actually part of a long running joke on the podcast that we will explain when the interview airs next Wed.
Adam LaRoche or Smoak? Jose Guillen or Aaron Rowand?
what are thoughts of Brannon Boesch?
REALLY like him. The fact they sent down Raburn is a good sign. I think he sticks even when Guillen comes back. Really impressive kid
Jordan in NJ. What's to be impressed about?
Since you're so slow, I'm reading your TMR article at the same time.
Who has two thumbs and is a genius? This guy right here. Do you like it? Do you? Go ahead and read. I'll wait.
Is Major League your favorite baseball movie?
Field of Dreams.
TMR, love your work, especially during the football season. That being said, had you gone to Hebrew school, you would know next week is Shavuos where we were blessed to be G-d's Chosen People. It's like winning the World Series every year. Rob from Portland, your parents wanted the best for you, that's why they sent you. And TMR, that's not a bullet at all, but real life, not fantasy. Have a good one!
I printed that one of of guilt.
Final line for Smoak?
25 HR, 70 RBI, .280
Brennan Boesch went 2 for 3 vs. a tough lefty in CC today, with a 2b, HR and a K.
The answer your question"Why not?" interview the Jonas Bros..because we don't give a damn about them.
Then don't listen. Look, here's some advice that I got that has served me well and is a good rule of thumb for anyone out there aspiring to do something for the public.Amuse yourself. There's not one thing - the Beatles, Elvis, whatever - that everyone agrees on or likes. Do things that please you and chances are others will enjoy it. That's been my attitude my whole career and it has served me well. I'm not for everyone but there are enough people that find the same things funny and interesting etc that I do that I've managed to stay employed.Jonas Brothers is gonna be great and hilarious.
Is it too early to stash Michael Stanton in a non-keeper league?
Trade Braden for Chacin in a dynasty?
Yes - when i doubt, go NL.
Didn't you draft me for your "Dream Team"? Can I be dumped?
Yeesh, did I really? My bad.Yes, in 10 team standard mix you can dump, though I still believe you'll turn it around.
I hope you are right about Smoak. I also hope you were right about Blanks. Do you see him turning it around?
Ugh, I know. Well, nowhere to go but up for Blanks!Getting tougher and tougher to hang on but I ultimately believe he will hit for an average that won't kill you along with good power.
Zambrano returns to the rotation on __________?
Done with the article, since you confirmed almost every one my thoughts, that makes us both geniuses. High five!
Troy Glaus has looked good as of late. Final stat line?
.265, 23 HR, 72 RBI
Doc Berry: Where do you rank Vernon Davis among TEs?
Have him at #4 among TE
I cut the last 2 #'s. This makes no sense to me.
I miss Brendan Roberts. (sighs)
He's still with us - he's just busy editing. Making others, including me, look good.
Hey matthew, what do you think about derek holland going forward? better than brett cecil and clay bucholz? Thanks for taking my question!
Clay, Holland, Cecil is how I would rank them
Do you believe in Konerko?
Yes. Do I think he leads the league in HR at the end of the year? No. But as I pointed out in the pre-season, he hit 28 HR last and is a career .277 hitter. Expect 35 HR and a decent avg
Why? You know I am spoken for by Dan in San Jose.
How do you feel about the upcoming Suns series?
I'm nervous, honestly. Feel like it's going to go 7 and that Nash will make Fisher look ridiculous. Need Artest to shut J Rich down and Bynum to stay out of foul trouble.
Katy Perry or Marissa Miller? Miller was robbed!
Katy Perry as #1 is the dumbest thing I've ever seen in rankings. And I had Calvin Johnson as my
Contreras will save __________ games
5 or under
Bud Norris pitched very well today. Like him more then Mike Leake?
Nope. I'd stick with Leake
Guillen or Luke Scott. drop the cold for the hot?
Scott. He's a streaky guy - ride the streak.
Should Niemann be getting more love? He really seems to be flying under the radar despite a really good year and the fact that he was a pretty good prospect.
Yeah, I'm with you. I've never been a huge fan, but a lot of people liked him as a pre-season sleeper and he's done well and doesn't show any signs of slowing down.
Wade Leblanc or Brett Cecil?
You spoke on the podcast about Fernando Rodney... would you drop Francisco or Corpas for him?
I'd drop Corpas, yes.
Any advice on how I could make myself less itchy?
Can you think of a good team name based on some of the players on my team which include: Fister, Leake, Fukudome?
That I can print?No.
Lightning round: HOw do you feel about Duchsherer? Por favor, El Hombre TMR
Chacin over Gorzy?
No- worried Chacin doesn't stick in rotation. If he were guaranteed a slot, then yes, Chacin
Will you be doing the ESPN radio fantasy football drafts again this year??
Yes I think so
Franklin Gut, Alexei, or Luke Scott?
Really, 5 saves or less for Contrares? You think Lidge will come back clean or you don't believe in Jose?
Bit of a combo
But more about Lidge
How come you let chatters decide when the lightning round commences? Shouldnt you, TMR, say "Lightning Round" and then allow Player A or Player B questions roll in? Don't be such a pushover....
Agree with Karabell that Figgins turns it around?
I do not. He was a pre-season bust of mine and so far he hasn't disproven that. He won't hit for this low of an average, of course, but he's not gonna hit .300 or anything like he has.
What about Starlin Castro? Would you take him over Elvis Andrus?
Andrus will steal more. Like Castro for the rest
Ok gang, that's all the time we have. Be sure to check out my column - Thanks for stopping by!
