Chat with Ohm Youngmisuk

  (12:51 PM)

Hey everybody! Thanks for joining the chat. I know this is a Giants chat and I will try to answer all your questions. But I know sometimes you all have questions about other teams like the Jets, teams in the NFC East, heck, even the Nets or Knicks. I did cover the NBA for 10 years so if you wanna talk LeBron, let's do it. Pop culture, Jay-Z and Eminem doing a concert together, whatever... I'm game! As old school MC Hammer once rapped, Let's Get It Started (around 1 pm)! LOL!

Eric (Wash. D.C.)

How do you feel our D-line and LB core is at this point? What do you think if anything may change whether free agents or trades that the Giants will do?

  (1:01 PM)

Eric from my hometown of DC! I think the D-Line will look better this season. Linval Joseph is my guess for rookie who makes an impact this season. He is agile and strong and has size. You got to expect that Canty will contribute with him being healthy this season. Cofield will be healthier. And they got five pass rushers as well. As for the linebacking core, this is where I would worry if I were a Giants fan. I think Boley should have a nice season, I am expecting him to step up. But middle linebacker, major, major concern. I know the Giants aren't panicking but I still wonder what will happen. Jerry Reese said not to discount him going and getting somebody else from outside as well.

joe (deltona,fl)

what role will barden play this year? also with phillips healthy do we have the best safty tandem in the league

  (1:03 PM)

Joe,Barden has to earn a role in training camp and you have to hope that he will become more of a red zone presence for them this season with his height and size. But Barden has to show that he is ready in camp.KP's health remains a concern. The Giants would not have gone out and gotten Rolle, Grant and then drafted Chad Jones if they weren't concerned. But if KP comes back and looks anything like he was against Dallas - when he was playing hurt - then yes, the Giants safety tandem will be pretty sick.

JC (Clearwater, FL)

Ohm my main man. Good to hear your Giant lol opinion. Now my question. We keep hearing about the Giants' middle linebacker problems and that they can't keep relying on 3-5th round picks to do the job but my contention is this. The last 2 really good MIB's we have had were Jesse Armstead 8th round pick and Antonio Pierce undrafted. Sometimes you catch lightning in a bottle and maybe Dillard is the lightning.

  (1:05 PM)

JC, wud up in the FLA?J... do you work with Jerry Reese? LOL... I think you are thinking exactly the same way the Giants are. And yes, you are right, Dillard could emerge. Funny thing is, when I watch him on the field during rookie camp, he reminds me a bit of AP in build and stature. Stocky, short, has flashed some leadership skills. Armstead was a late pick but at least he came from the U and I was a huge Miami fan growing up so I'm biased. Pierce already had some seasoning in Washington before he came to New York. I think the Giants best-case scenario is that one of the unproven vets on the team - like a Jonathan Goff - emerges in camp.

Clay D (NY)

Can A-Rod run anymore? Can Yankee fans look to see him moved to DH in years to come?

  (1:07 PM)

Clay D... Yankee question! I think A-Rod can still run. It's not like he's ancient. But with his hip injury, I'm sure maybe he's a bit more tentative right now. Isn't Gardner running enough for you anyways? Let's just get A-Rod jacking more HRs for now.

Tony (NY)

OHM!! whats up, I dont know butthe signing of Micah Johnson from Kentucky for the giants really made me excited.. I feel like this kid is a HUGE pick up but hes not gettin alot of attention.. Any chance he may win a starting job and or develope into a stud at LB??

  (1:09 PM)

Tony, wud up my man? Let me say one thing first - Micah Johnson is a ripped linebacker. He is HUGE. So physically he looks great. He was a good prospect prior to his senior season when he had some injuries. I think as far as signing him from a tryout basis, why not? Let's see if he is as good as some thought he'd be after his junior season. The Giants have nothing to lose. And neither does Micah. The fact that he emerged from rookie camp means he has a shot and that is all he can ask for.

  (1:11 PM)

Jeff,I was just wondering that myself this morning. I doubt it but I think Merriman just signed with a new agency. Merriman is more of a pass-rushing outside linebacker. I think there need is more at middle linebacker. But I love Merriman. A fellow Maryland-DC area product. LOL.

jamal (ny,ny)

In the fewel's system where does the pressure come from most often, the giants had one of the worst red zone d's what are they going to do to improve this?

  (1:13 PM)

J,I talked to London Fletcher last week who played for Fewell in Buffalo. He thinks the defensive ends the Giants have will allow Perry Fewell to do his thing in the secondary and not have to manufacture a blitz from elsewhere. I think the WILL linebacker also will have a nice role in Fewell's defense.

AC in CA (Tahoe)

hey Ohm, do you think there's a (decent) chance that Micah Johnson leapfrogs over Dillard in camp?

  (1:14 PM)

AC,I think Micah certainly has a chance since he emerged out of rookie camp but the Giants invested in Dillard and so far, Dillard has been fine. He has flashed some leadership skills and we'll see how both do once the vets get into the mix. I think Dillard has a better shot right now than Johnson.

Clay D NY [via mobile]

Has Pierre-Paul made any progression so far? Could we be looking for him to replace Osi by the start of the season?

  (1:16 PM)

Clay,Pierre-Paul kind of had an incomplete rookie camp. He was slowed by a back ailment during the second day of rookie camp - a condition he says pops up everytime he starts out in camp after a layoff. To his credit, he finished all the practices. But he is very raw and has a long way to go as far as learning everything. I think Osi comes back hungry this season and motivated. Don't see JPP replacing Osi just yet.

Mike (NY)

Ohm- quick nets question, you think cousins and lopez and co-exist if the nets are lucky enough to land #1 Tuesday?

  (1:19 PM)

Mike wud up?I think if they land the first overall pick, they're going John Wall. And let's just say if they did take Cousins, yes, I think they both can co-exist. Brook has developed his back to the basket game. Cousins is a raw athlete and needs to still develop his game. But if I'm Rod, I am taking Wall.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

What did you think when the New York Giants Selected P Matt Dodge for their seventh round

  (1:21 PM)

Chris,Initially many of us were puzzled in the Giants press room. But then the Giants informed us about Feagles' imminent retirement or at least that he was considering it. Personally, I take my chances and hope Dodge goes undrafted and then sign him as a free agent and use the pick on a offensive or defensive player. But then again, it's the seventh-round pick although I think Ahmad Bradshaw was taken in the seventh round, no?

Clay D NY [via mobile]

How bad is David Wright hitting right now, and does it look like he can/will pull out of it soon?

  (1:22 PM)

Let's hope so because D-Wright is on my fantasy team. I think he constantly wants to do so well that sometimes he presses. I hope he can get it all straightened out!

Joe West (via mobile)

Ohm, the pace is that chat is ridiculous. Speed it up. This is embarrassing.

  (1:23 PM)

Alright J-West!

Rob (NYC)

whats your prediction for the giants defense this year? will they rebound to the upper echelon again?

  (1:25 PM)

I think the Giants defense bounces back this season. So far the signs are good. I think the players trust Perry Fewell - they didn't trust Bill Sheridan - and there is a ton of depth and youth now from the draft after Reese used five of his picks on defensive players. The front line is big and deep. And the pass rushers will be hungry. Tuck should be healthy. Kiwi wants a new deal. Osi wants to start. And JPP wants to prove he was the right pick. But I still have my concerns about the corners and will Phillips be back at safety. And then there's the middle linebacker question mark.

Clay D NY [via mobile]

Seeing how even the Raiders are somewhat switching to a 3-4, could you ever envision the Giants embracing a change out of the 4-3 or would it be too difficult with their current roster?

  (1:26 PM)

I don't see the Giants switching out of the 4-3... not unless a new head coach comes in.

Clay D NY [via mobile]

How are the Mets' starting pitchers holding up? Are they good enough to find a playoff spot by seasons end, or is their bullpen not up to standards?

  (1:27 PM)

I love Johan but he never gets enough support unless he's really on top of his game. But I don't trust the other pitchers yet. They got a long way to go before they can be trust-worthy. It's still very early.

Colin (NJ)

Whats the scoop on andre brown this year? Does he have a chance at being a factor to the rb core?

  (1:28 PM)

C,Sounds like he is progressing with his rehab. Tom Coughlin said he will certainly get his chances in camp to show his thing. The Giants can use him to emerge to ad some depth in case Ahmad Bradshaw and Brandon Jacobs are still recovering from offseason surgeries.

Clay D NY [via mobile]

Is K-Rod now officially a fraud?

  (1:29 PM)

Geez Clay,You aren't happy with K-Rod huh? I'm not willing to go that far yet. The Mets got more problems than K-Rod. I know they have played well recently, or at least better than I thought. But K-Rod won't be the reason why the Mets don't make the playoffs if they miss the postseason again.

Clay D NY [via mobile]

Is Phil Hughes really as good as his current ERA indicates and what's his ceiling as a player?

  (1:30 PM)

I like Phil Hughes and definitely want to see if he has the potential that we've heard about for so long. I definitely want to see what he can do as a starter.

Scott (Paramus, NJ)

Ohm what's the deal with Beckum? Is he going to be used more this year?

  (1:31 PM)

Wud up Scott. I'd like to see him used more. When he was at Wisconsin, he was pretty versatile and a threat in the passing game. I think the Giants plan to see what he is capable of during training camp for sure. But I'm with you, would like to see him used more.

  (1:33 PM)

Alright everybody. Thanks so much for joining the chat. Let's do this again next week. Wonder if LeBron will be entering the offseason thinking about the Knicks next week or if he'll still be playing. And the Giants have another availability on Friday so I will be there updating everything on the G-Men. See you next week and thanks again!

  (1:34 PM)

Oh, wait, got one more question

Rob (NYC)

ohm, arent we a little thin at running back? cant rely only on the passing game..

  (1:36 PM)

Rob,I agree, I would like to see a little more depth considering that all of their running backs are coming off surgery of some sort. Remember when the running game was at its most potent was when they had a three-back rotation with D-Ward. Bradshaw and Jacobs have to be healthy, this is very important for the Giants, who must return to their power running game again compared to last season.

  (1:37 PM)

Ok, thanks everybody again for stopping by. See everyone next week!
