Forgive me if my fingers are slow. On final stages of laying a patio and fingers are a bit sore. Mind works, though, so fire away. Lot's of stuff to discuss. And how about the Dancing with the Stars finale. Too bad Erin Andrews lost.
Which 14 Drivers had Competed in Both the Indianapolis 500 & the Brickyard 400 in their career(It doesn't have to be in the same season)?
Wow, you are challenging me right away. Not sure I can get all 14 if there are that many. Let's see, Tony Stewart, John Andretti, Franchitti, Hornish Jr., Robby Gordon ....you might have to help me here. Said my mind was working but not that fast.
Let's say hypothetically Kyle Busch wrecks Denny Hamlin for the win this Sunday night... Uproars throughout the NASCAR community?
Depends on how the wreck happens. If he is racing hard and something happens that's one thing. If he purposely spins him out that's another. On purpose would cause an uproar, whether it's Kyle or not.
More likely: Kasey Khane to the 55 car next season or McDowell gets a top 10 finish this year?
Geez, I don't think either will happen, but if you twist my arm I'll say McDowell.
Will Casey Mears be racin the the #83 Red Bull Toyota For the rest of the year since Brian Vickers is out for the season?
Most of othe year. They may put somebody in for the road coures.
I got 2 questions who do you think should make the next hall and why. Also who is the red baron
David Pearson, Dale Inmann, Raymond Parks, Cale Yarborough and Lee Petty.
saw rumor on nascar.com hat jr maybe out and kahne in cause kahne has to be in a hendrick car in order for hendrick to have him under contract with the five driver rule and all so any chance the rumors are true will jr go to rcr hendrick sell rcr the rest of his contract and he will race the 3 and kahne the 88 sounds good to me makes alot os sence since he hasnt produced with mr h so how true do u see that going
That would be a wild scenario. I don't see it happening, but it sure would spice things up. I do think Kahne will be in the 5 next year. I see Martin going somewhere else.
if jr does go to rcr the fans will be happier and sales will go up cuz he wont be under the hendrick banner anymore and if he does leave and kahne gets in the 88 and starts winning races will that look bad on jrs part thanks
Just doesn't make sense because Kahne has been tabbed for the 5 in 2012 _ which i think will be 2011 _ and Martin isn't going to drive more than few more years. That would leave a hole in the 88 or 5. And Junior has said he isn't going anywhere.
danica full time in nascar with hendrick in 2012 after mark leaves how u feel sounds good to me
Since Kasey already has been slated to replace Mark that might not happen, but she'll have some connedtion to Hendrick
who is hendrick looking at to take the places of jr or martin wants there contracts are out i other then kahne since he is signed already like when jrs contract is up in 2012 if he leaves and kahne goes in then who fills in for martin what do you think thanks
Brush fire here. Like I said, I see Kahne in the 5 next year. Don't see Junior going anywhere.
David, getting this question in early because my internship started this week. Is UPS really going to leave Roush for RCR, and if they do who would replace them, any idea? Thanks!
UPS has looked at several drivers I'm told. Discussons with Jeff Gordon early. They liked Kahne but couldn't make it work out apparently. Harvick would make sense. He could go from that ugly yellow to ugly brown.
But it also should be noted that UPS has one more year on its deal with Roush and Ragan, although there could a performance escape clause.
If Jimmie Johnson HAD NEVER BEEN BORN who would we be talking about in NASCAR right now? Would Jeff Gordon have his sixth chamionship by now? Dark question... I know... but it must be done.
Jeff Gordon probably would have five or six titles. You might have seen Edwards of maybe Kyle Busch with one. Lot of speculation there.
Mark Martin sewars he will be in the 5 car next years. What are you hearing
He has sweared something would happen before and something else did. Stay tuned.
How'd you like my payback to all of the fans who cheered my wrecks by making 90% of the All-Star race the worst race ever? And guess what, Chad and I were just experimenting with stuff for the 2013 Chase!
I like sarcasm.
Do you think I can rent a cot and move into the HOF for a few weeks? I don't think I saw it all when I was down there last Friday before the truck race!
Sure they would sell you a season pass.
Do you think the 600 will be a single file, spread out field like the borefest allstar race was? That was a terrible race and 600 miles of that garbage will be a tough watch
Maybe not as drawn out. It typically changes from the first half to the second because the track temperature changes. I see JJ dominating though. Sorry.
Hey Newt, quickly, if you can recall all of Dale Jr's Crew Chief's/Stand in CC's since 2005. How high would you rate them on a 1-10 scale. Jr has underperformed since 2005, but never has he had a Winning Crew Chief. Is Dale holding back these Crew Chief's, or are the Crew Chief's holding back Dale? In your opinion of course.
You are way overanalyzing this. Chemistry has a lot to do with it, but you can't beat a talented driver if you put me on the CC stand.
Good article on Kurt. Even as a Cup champ, he out out in his hauler before every race signing stuff for the fans! Something alot of other guys think they are too good for.
Thanks. Wish more people could see him as I did the other night. Cool cat. He was at Denny Hamlin's club Butter last night as well.
hey dave! do you know of any driver that has the god given talent of driving. as sports fans we know of various athletes who are born with the gift or those who have it but don't discover the gift until they are near 18-20 years of age. i'm just curious. thanks.
You mean somebody not in the top three series now? I don't see a young Tiger Woods type driver on the horizon if that is what you mean. And as much talent as somebody might have it takes great equipment and a great team to take it to the next level.
Just read your piece on Kurt Busch. Is this the same guy who Tony Stewart supposedly decked in the NASCAR hauler at Daytona, the guy who Kevin Harvick said he regrets for not punching at Bristol, the guy who called his boss Roger Penske dude, and the guy who GQ voted # 3 of the Ten Most Hated Athletes?
Same guy. Your point?
I want to know what's going on at RCR in terms of sponsorship. Is there any new news? I think the fan bases of Harvick and Bowyer have very differing opinions as to who should get what...What's your take?
I think you'll hear something soon. All the usual suspects are up for grabs, although Childress says he has a few outside of racing now that might consider Harvick.
plz help explain during the all star race when jj spun and the caution came out they put the field back to the restart' newman made a great 3wide move to pickup positions before the yellow, and did not get rewarded for this' i thought the yellow froze the field
The yellow does freeze the field. Not sure where Newman was when the caution came out but because they don't count laps under caution in that race it throws a monkey wrench into it.
With the announced F1-specific track being built in Austin, TX., could we FINALLY see another road coarse added to the NASCAR circuit? That's how we have Watkins Glen today, correct?
I don't see NASCAR adding another outside of Sonoma and Watkins Glen anytime soon. Where are you going to take a date from. Heck, Bruton Smith wants a second race at Vegas and one at Kentucky and can't get that done.
As a Stewart supporter, we NEED MORE ROAD RACES IN NASCAR! Here's an idea, cut out Dover (boring as sin), leave Pocono alone, cut out an Atlanta race, and fill the voids with more entertaining tracks, LIKE A ROAD RACE!!! :-)
I like Dover, but I'd cut Pocono and a California race in a heartbeat.
QUESTION TO DAVID NEWTON AT 2.25 PM HI DAVID WHO YOUHAVE FORCHARLOTTE SUNDAY
As I said earlier I see the 48 dominating. The track name has changed but JJ still owns it.
Hi David, Awesome story on Kurt Busch. Do you think K. Busch will win the 2010 Sprint Cup or K. Busch?
I am guessing you mean Kurt or Kyle. Because maturity is so important in winning the title I'll go with Kurt. And thanks.
When it comes to teaching crew chiefs, setups and restarts do you think that Kurt is actually learning from his 25 year old kid brother Kyle?
Who are the leading candidates to be Kevin Harvick's Sprint Cup Series sponsor starting in 2011?
Hearing Bud a lot. UPS is rumored but not sure they can get out of their deal at Roush. Would love to see Jack Daniels come back and rejoin Bowyer and put General Mills on Harvick.
Has Scotty Speed stepped up and taken on the leadership role at Team RedBull in BV's absence?
The leadership is coming from Jay Frye, the general manager, and Vickers will be around some.
Do u think Bud is going to go with Kahne?
Starting to become skeptical.
Your boy, Terry Blount, basically said that Hamlin wrecked Kyle. Did he, or Kyle fans, expect Hamlin to let him by with such few laps to go. It was a racing incident. This type of behavior is why Hamlin will win a championship before Kyle.
I guess Terry didn't get the memo that they were racing for a million and that you do whatever you can to keep the driver behind you. Kyle would have done the same thing had the situation been reverse.
Dave, what is the first NASCAR track you will play when Gran Turismo finally comes out, and which driver will you be?
I'd be Jeff Gordon at Daytona.
If you put Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch and J. Johnson in the #"s 34 37 & 38 for a season who would finish highest in the points?
I don't know, but would be fun to watch. I wish they'd draw which car they drive in the All-Star race. That would spice things up, wouldn't it?
Is Justin Allgaier going to cup full-time soon? What is the status of Hornish staying at Penske in cup?
Hornish is expected to stay at Penske in Cup, and I can't see Justin out of Cup more than one more year. Maybe not that long.
Looks like Danica isn't as great as some in the media would like her to be. This year alone, did much worse then expected for a first timer in stock cars, went back to IRL and has had a pretty lackluster showing, and now throwing her team under the bus. Please remind me why NASCAR "needs" Danica Patrick, and not the other way around? O-ver-rat-ed!
Can't argue with anything you said.
Hi David. Just curious...who do you consider to be the top 5 crew chiefs in the cup garage? OK...Knaus is a given so make it 6. :)
Knaus, Gustafson. Tryson, Zipadelli and Tony Eury Sr. Just kidding on the last one, although I like him a lot. Wanted to spice it up. Maybe Darian Grubb.
Where do you think Kahne will end up in 11?
Let's say Junior doesn't make the chase, does Rick Hendrick begin to think, maybe Junior is the reason instead of crew chief(s)?
Why did Kyle get mad at Denny racing him hard. Kyle races everyone hard.
Because he is Kyle. Old or new.
After Danica got booed at IMS do you see Danica coming to nascar full time sonner than later?
She's got a contract over there and souvenir sales still do well, so nope.
Do you think Kyle has a good chance of pulling off the double again like at Dover winning the NNW and Sprint cup races?
He's be my pick, but a double at Charlotte would be tough.
Why wouldn't Casey race on the road course. He had a season where he had the most points on the road course (top 3 for sure). Would be cool if they got someone from F1 to do it though.
They tested somebody else at a road course this week. As for why not Casey, you've obviously looked at his road course record closer than me.
If JG wasn't involved, I think Denny could've taken Kyle. Bum knee and all...
They did use Ric Flair to promote the race. Wooooo.
Hey David! I left the All Star Race feeling awfully good about Martin Truex for Sunday. He was good before the sun went all the way down and he was excellent at night. Who do you like for the 600?
Martin did have a good couple of runs, but if that 48 gets hooked up like it did for three segments of the All-Star race as Kyle Busch said, "has anybody noticed but the 48 can do whatever it wants."
I see a road course in NASCAR's Chase for the Sprint Cup in Austin, Texas in the future. Tell me I'm not crazy.
Can't tell you that.
When Kyle Busch wins his first Sprint Cup championship, will you rate The Busch Brothers as the 2 best brothers combination to ever race in Nascar?
They'd be in the top 2. Bobby and Donnie Allison were pretty doggone good.
Any luck getting Junior to put a picture of his dad in all his 88 cars?
Beyond my control.
Should some of the races be shortened? Especially the pocono races?
David - do you see Humpy getting into the hall, if so, when? Thanks!
There should be a place for promoters there definitely, and Humpy would be at or near the top of the list. Great man. Great for the sport.
Hey David, I asked Blount this yesterday and was curious about your thoughts. Who do you consider Ford's top driver to be? Edwards can be special, and is a walking salesmen, but Kenseth, given he gets decent equipment, still seems to be quite talented and underrated. Then there's Biffle who rarely has had great cars.
I'd have to say Edwards even though he's not winning now. He has the personality and the look to push products.
Is Paul Tracy looking to buy the ride of one of the cars that qualified? How about Milka?
Haven't heard, but would make sense. He worked hard to be in position to race Indy and was crushed not to be in the field.
hey david. in your opinion what has been the 3 biggest surprises this year?
Denny Hamlin's run with the bad knee, Brian Vickers being out for the rest of the year and Jeff Gordon/Jeff Burton not winning a race.
When are they going to quit canceling qualifying and start qualifying the day of the race when it does rain like nationwide and truck series does? Canceling qualifying just hurts the teams that dont have much money to spend, come all that way and practice but dont get to qualify because of rain,
I'd love to see qualifying on the same day as the race, or at least give teams the oppt. to qualify another day if qualifying is rained out. I keep getting told it would cause a scheduling nightmare.
This could be the best chance for a Penske Sweep on Sunday in a long time. I am not sure if Roger has ever won the 600, and although the 500 is the prestige race of the day with an overwhelming payday, you think Roger wants to win the 600 more, given that he wins like every other year at Indy?
I'd have to look, but would have to think Rusty Wallace won the 600 at least once.
Really funny story about Kurt especially him joking about Newman and fat Tony. But seriously, is Stewerts physical condition a factor in his poor performance this year?
All I can tell you is if you listen to most owners and drivers they say physical condition is more essential than ever.
It's not my fault!
Top five for the 600?
JJ, JG, Kur Busch, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin.
Is an F1 race with a purpose-built track in Austin, Texas the loopiest idea since USF1? Why do so many people want to give away money to Bernie Ecclestone?
Got me. I am with you on loopy.
Please resolve this. I say auto racing is a sport and that Nascar is a series in the sport. My friend says that Nascar is a sport. Who's right?
Harvick hates darlington and top 10'ed, He had the same situation at Dover. Do you think he could pull out another top 10 at another track he hates and more so do you think he'll still be leading the points.
It is a series in the sport of auto racing, just like football is a sport in the NFL, Arena League, etc. Not sure why you guys are arguing this though.
Do you think Evernham will end up at Hendrick? Perhaps Jr's CC....
He could wind up there one day, but he says he doesn't want to be a CC again. Maybe there as advisor.
Isn't it a bit ridiculous that there were a handful of Start-and-Parks at the Showdown? Is it really worth 27-28 grand to do that?
Pretty good pay day if you ask me.
will Richard Petty most likely have to cut back a car instead of replacing Kahne due to sponsorship?
I hope not, but unless they can secure sponsorship that may be the only option.
David, who wins first on an oval Montoya or Junior?
Hmm. Good question. I'm going to go Junior, although not sure why since JPM has had a top 5 car much of the year.
Kyle Busch also said "Have someone check out the camber on the 48" after the first few laps. He seemed amazed at how the 48 was entering 1 and exiting so smoothly out of 2.
They did have magic in a bottle for a while.
Because many people make mis-statements like "our sport Nascar" or "the sport of Nascar".
Kind of nit picking, but OK. Don't you want to ask about Junior or Kyle Busch? just kidding.
Well folks, I have to run. Good chatting with you. You can always ask questions on my Twitter account at DNewtonEspn. Later.
