Chat with Jesse Rogers

Jesse Rogers
  (2:30 PM)

Hi all, about to leave for Philly. We're halfway home. Who knows maybe I'll come back with the Cup. Well, not me but you get the point. Will be tough to win next 2 thats for sure. One at a time! Fire away!

james (CHICAGO)

has there been any word on the return of andrew ladd? and what do you think will happen when he comes back with kopecky playing as well as he is?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:32 PM)

I still think hes coming back. Hes already skating and he was never wearing any kind of arm or shoulder swing that I saw plus Im not even sure if he needed an mri..if he had one i think it was def negative...burish only play 3:41..eager 4:03 so one of those two..prob bur but he did draw a penalty and of course eager scored..tough call...kopy playing well right now so doubt him but u never know..for the roles they have kopy/ladd not really energy guys so maybe eager/bur stay...tough call but a good one to have

frank (chicago)

why is pronger the biggest wuss in the game? he will hit players and act all tough but when it comes down to it hes a scared little baby.....if i had that size id be lighting people up

Jesse Rogers
  (2:33 PM)

Just the way he is. Prob would like him on your team but tough to like on the other...I guess thats good if you're him, rite?

Justin (Lake Bluff)

Hey Jesse, after two tough wins is the team still focused, or do you see a bit of a letdown in Philly for game 3?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:35 PM)

Anything can happen but they are far from celebrating. Talking to keith and seabs after the win last night, you wouldve thought they lost and after game 1 they both were def not happy with all the scoring..high standards and still a long way to go is what they are thinking...it wont be so much a letdown but philly might bring everything they have...i mean if the hawks lose after 7 wins in a row, that would not shock you, right?

Greg (Antioch, IL)

Do you think Toews or Niemi will win the Conn Smythe?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:36 PM)

Now thats becoming a great question..looked like toews was a lock there for a while but after theses 2 games, despite the 5 goals in game 1 maybe niemi is moving closer...last night certainly was his night..maybe he next few games will decide

Paul M (Longmont, CO)

Jesse, Barry Melrose said the Blackhawks stole game 1. Do you feel that they stole game 1?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:39 PM)

A little bit...just like san jose game 1...ya know those games can go either way and the hawks have made thier good fortuune more than have been lucky..its about perspective...I understand what melrose is saying but they played well in the third period..that coutns for something...we are splititng hairs on this stuff sometimes...

Alex (Lockport)

Now that Hossa got the monkey off his back and scored again, will we see an increase in his play?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:40 PM)

Think we already have. Hes been dynamite. Especially in game 1. Not that he was bad in previous series but I told anyone that would listen, eventually the puck goes the right way for great players and we are seeing it...he was due and they reaping the rewards..

Mike (Glen Ellyn)

Jesse, how many days after the clincher do you see the parade taking place? Yes, a little bit of over confidence, but also want to start coming up with an "illness" to get to the city and celebrate

Jesse Rogers
  (2:41 PM)

This is the jinx question of all time. Depends where/when they clinch..weekend,home,etc. But I would imagine 2 days later...not the next day or day after but hte day after that...just a guess...and we just ruined the whole thing!

Paul M (Longmont, CO)

Jesse, do you think that the Blackhawks will only put Huet in if Niemi gets hurt, the way Niemi is playing?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:42 PM)

Yes, or 8-0 philly

Chris (Buffalo)

Does phili have a chance?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:42 PM)

Slight..prob not but hey, boston prob thought they were in..the hawks will not let down till this is over...great leadership over there. i mean, great.

Jon B (Newfoundland)

Watching the Toews, Kane, Byfuglien line both games now it seems that there isn't enough support along the boards when they get it into the flyers end to sustain any pressure in the offensive zone. Do you think this has to do with byfuglien always standing in front of the net and not helping along the boards leaving kane and toews out to dry? Think a line change may be incoming to alleviate a potential problem?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:44 PM)

Hmm..No, cause thats the way it is supposed to go down. Kane and Toews support each other until they need Buff to step in but when they clearly have the puck, he goes to the net..I cant put my finger on it, they had better shifts in game 2, much better but still a level below san jose..maybe its just pronger and carle..give them some credit

Jon (Genoa)

Do you think that the Flyers will amp up an already physical series in their building?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:46 PM)

I think the flyers will do whatever it takes to win a game..i thikn carcillo made some decent noise so he'll continue in the lineup is my guess..and yes they're forwards will try to be physical with hawks d-men..at least they would like to be

Hack (Chicago)

A lot of people seem to be wondering if we can keep winning without our top line producing. If our top line stays cold at even strength, I think we can still overcome that. I think Kane-Toews-Buff need to be heard from on the powerplay, or we might be in trouble. What do you think?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:47 PM)

Well, they are 2-2 without that top line sniffing a point so I guess they can. I loved the sharp line going into this series and they are proving thier worth so as long as they do what the top line WAS doing they are ok..yeah, at least a pp tally would be nice...kane has to get his head out of his ### and I say that in a good way cause I love the kid but not playing his best

SouvenirCity (Chicago)

Be candid. Could Patrick Kane be playing any worse to start this series? Is he the primary reason the top line for the Hawks is struggling right now?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:47 PM)

See last answer!

Scott (Chicago)

What are your thoughts on putting Hossa's name in the discussion for Conn Smythe contention? Maybe the numbers aren't quite there, but he is a beast and I've loved his performance throughout the playoffs. Keep up the great work!

Jesse Rogers
  (2:48 PM)

OOO, that would be an upset and a true "hockey" vote..but i think Niemi might be the leader in the clubhouse for conn smythe if its not toews...I cant believe i just wrote that line..but it might be true..i dont even think he played that poorly in the 5 goal game 1

Aaron (Aurora)

Thanks for chatting Jesse. Did the Q-Stache mention anything about the Hawks gameplan once they got that 2nd goal? From watching on TV it looked like they just packed it in...I'd rather see them keep up the offensive pressure. 2 goal leads are easy to lose.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:50 PM)

I will tell you it wasnt their game plan but it can almost happen naturally sometimes...up 2-0 at home, you're not in desperation mode and you just hold on..sometimes it happens..thank god it didnt bite them but they needed to play a little more in the other end..I chalk that one up to the situation

Tom (Lombard)

Jesse, If the Hawks can steal one on the road in the next 2 games, do you see them ending this series in 5 and hoisting up the cup at home within the next week?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:51 PM)

I would think so. If they lose in that situation, I doubt it will be like a game 5 against van. Philly will have to earn it, just like the hawks did in these games

william (oak park)

barry melrose has said this is the worst he has seena team play and still be up two games to none. do you agree with that?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:54 PM)

No. Hes being too harsh...they played ok in game 2. maybe not the best 3rd period but like i said they had a lead and sat on it. It happens and they played a very good 3rd period in game 1 after a wild 40 minutesso I dont agree with that

Jesse Rogers
  (2:55 PM)

I mean these werent games like they played against nash or game 5 against van...

Stacy (Chicago)

Do you think the Hawks are getting any national press credit for continuously adapting their game against opponents throughout the playoffs?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:56 PM)

Thats a good question. Maybe not. I think its one of the storylines of the entire season. They proved early on they could play diff styles and cotinue to adapt so it should be talked about

Debbie's husband (Northbrook)

Hey Jesse - I sense that the Flyers actually played pretty well, though differently, in these two games and still lost. Is there really anything else for them to try? What kind of adjustment could they even make at this point?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:58 PM)

I think you're basically right on the money..They dont have much margin for error so when Eager beats you, its demoralizing. Nothing against eager of course. But thats the answer cut down on little mistakes and pray leighton plays as well as he did for the most part last night...

Jesse Rogers
  (2:58 PM)

Couple more than off to the airport

Hack (Chicago)

Jesse, Which Philly player has been the biggest surprise for you in terms of somewhat unexpected solid play?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:58 PM)

Should not be a surprise really but I think Daniel Briere has been darn good, especially in Game 1.

Tom (Milwaukee)

I believe I read a comment in yesterday's game blog about the cap going up 2 million for next year. Is that confirmed?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:59 PM)

Bettman mentioned something to the effect in his state of the union address last week. Can only help the Hawks!

Bill H (NJ)

Jesse -- The advantage for the Hawks thus far seems to be derived from the number of face off wins, especially offensive draws. If the Hawks continue to dominate in this area, how do you see Philly even winning a game in the series?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:01 PM)

Well, you can win a game without winning the faceoff battle but it does make it that much harder. Thats the margin for error Im talking about. Philly needs a few more things--and that would be one of them--to go thier way and they can win a game. Hey, the home crowd can get you one win on thier own so we'll see.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:02 PM)

Thanks all. Have to get going. Prob do a chat tomorrow after both teams skate. Ill be on espn 1000 today at 2:25..follow me on twitter @espnchihawks. Talk to you from cheesesteak land!
