Chat with Andrew Feldman

Andrew Feldman
  (4:01 PM)

What's going on everyone! I've got a half hour before the poker edge podcast, so let's get the questions in and get this WSOP chat started!

Eric (Los Angeles)

Better chance at being WSOP Player of the Year: David Baker or John Juanda? Both are really tearing it up right now, but I got my money on Juanda.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:04 PM)

The problem is that there are multiple David Bakers! Both of them have made deep runs in events this summer and will continue to do so. Juanda definitely has the edge here just based on what he's done to date, but the Michigan Baker might change thing as he's currently deep in an event right now.

Random Donk (Valuetown)

Why would the WSOPA announce that Tom Dwan plays the qualifier for TOC seat 27, then have to replace him with Gavin Smith? You'd think Dwan or others may actually still be in tournaments when scheduling?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:05 PM)

Dwan is currently sixth in the 2-7 event that restarts in a few hours. Given how much a bracelet is worth to him, it makes sense that he wouldn't risk missing the early part of Day 2. Gavin is actually a pretty good replacement so props to the WSOP Academy on that one.

Michael (Dubuque, IA)

Last year they showed most of the final tables online as they were happening, I thought it was great why are they not doing that this year??

Andrew Feldman
  (4:07 PM)

There are five events that will be streamed this year. The first will be streamed on June 26th and you can watch it on ESPN3.com. Here's a link to all out poker offerings on E3: http://espn.go.com/espn3/index/_/sport/games

Paul (IL)

When will there be a turbo WSOP bracelet event for the online players? Live poker is like a six hour round of golf...

Andrew Feldman
  (4:09 PM)

I don't think that there will be an online bracelet event at the very earliest until the online poker issues in the US are settled. Even then, I'd still like to see the WSOP keep the bracelet tournaments at the live venue.

John (Jersey)

Can you tell Mercier and Barry G to step it up...My first two picks are killing me in my fantasy league.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:13 PM)

Mercier left the WSOP for a couple of days so that's not an excuse for him not having any results, but it's at least part of it. I'm sure he's ready to turn it around or maybe, just maybe, Mercier's run might be coming to an end. I doubt that's the case, but its possible. Barry has had a rough 2010 and it has continued into the WSOP. I'm waiting for him to break out of this run with a bracelet...

Matt (Los Angeles)

Who's gonna be on the podcast?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:14 PM)

Going to basically be a WSOP update with Phil and I. No guest this week, but a lot of thoughts on the event this year.

Michael (Dubuque, IA)

Do you think that there will be any female bracelet winners other then the womans event?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:15 PM)

I still think so. We've got 40 more events, we're going to have another female bracelet winner.

Tyler (Brookings, SD)

Is Vladimir Schmelev really this good?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:18 PM)

Who knows! It's hard to argue with his results so far and it seems that every year we seem to get a russian superstar emerge out of nowhere. He's in the middle of the pack in the 2-7 event and I'm sure it would be some sort of record if he makes a fourth final table in 18 events, each of them being a 10K.

Bob (Seattle)

So if I'm interpreting you correctly, you'd like to see an online WSOP event where everyone needs to be in Vegas to play? It'll be like a giant convention of video poker/slot machine players - only younger, male, and dressed worse.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:19 PM)

No. I don't think bracelets should be awarded for online play. It's the history and the tradition that make the WSOP bracelets what they are...keep 'em as prizes for the live event winners.

Phil (NY)

How many other big names (besides Dwan) are deep in the 2-7 event?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:20 PM)

You name 'em, they're probably in the event. Notables in the top 10 include David Baker (michigan), Tommy Vedes, Brandon Cantu, Billy Baxter, Joe Cassidy.

Jeremy (Seattle)

Have you heard any specifics on the deposit issues after the June 1st enforcement of the UIGEA? Is there a difference between deposit types Bank acct vs Credit Card, or site FT vs PS?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:21 PM)

Just heard that a company is pulling out of the US now due to new restrictions...can't remember which one it is off the top of my head.

Ville (Finland)

Did you forget I made four 10k final tables last year?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:22 PM)

I did, but not the first four...And by the way, thanks for showing up this year. We'll see you in a couple weeks?

Brian (Alabama)

With the lackluster hype behind last years "November 9", will the powers that be at the WSOP do anything differently this year. And how is the absence of Jeffrey Pollack playing into this year?

Andrew Feldman
  (4:25 PM)

I think the hype really depends on the players going out and making themselves available for all interviews. We had the biggest name in the game in Phil Ivey at the final table and he really didn't want to keep the spotlight on him. If he went out, did a full media tour, things would've been very different. I hope that the players this year will be motivated to take the spotlight and embrace it. Jeffrey's absence is noticeable, but I think the event so far has been a success.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:26 PM)

Last question, sorry...

BigRedDog101 (London)

Any sign of Jason "George" Alexander? I put him on playing a few more events since last year was the "Summer of George" and he had that wicked run in the ME.

Andrew Feldman
  (4:27 PM)

He'll be back for the main. I haven't heard about him playing anything else yet, but he has enjoyed the main event experience the last few years...maybe he'll cash this year!

Andrew Feldman
  (4:27 PM)

Thanks for the questions, no chat tomorrow for me, but I'll be back on Monday!
