Chat with Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
  (12:01 PM)

Greetings Fight Freaks! It's been a busy week with lots of news stories, a few blogs, an updated schedule, updated rankings and p4p rankings and a giant notebook, so we have plenty to discuss, including tomorrow night's Super Six fight between Andre Ward and Allan Green. So check the notebook and sked and come strong. Let's get to it!

matt (canada)

david haye or usain bolt in a 100 m race with wladimir running behind them?

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 PM)

Haye breaks the world record.

Tom E (Jersey City, NJ)

Surprisingly fun weekend of boxing last week, no? Lemieux looked incredible, Okada upsetting Arroyo, and then Calderon his usual masterful self.

Dan Rafael
  (12:03 PM)

You're right. Okana-Arroyo is one of the better 4-rounders you'll see. Calderon has slipped a little, but I think that actually makes him more entertaining now and I have been a Lemieux fan for awhile now.

Keith H (Seattle)

Freaks, let's see if we can get on the same page from the start for chat time.1) Read the notebook first.2) Read everybody's blogs, but especially Dan's.3) Read the schedule. Dan's is probably the only correct one.4) "Alt-tab" keeps the boss away during chats. Now, in the words of Mills Lane: "Let's get it on!"

Dan Rafael
  (12:03 PM)

Well said. Maybe I should have you author the Dummies Guide to Being a Fight Freak.

Todd (Florence, SC)

Hey Dan - Any names being mentioned as Paul Williams' opponent in his return to welterweight? Frankly, I can't think of any interesting names who seem like realistic possibilities.

Dan Rafael
  (12:04 PM)

Williams' promoter Dan Goossen is saying they want Mosley. Interesting fight but I don't see any real upside for Mosley to take it. He has nothing to prove and there are probably more lucrative bouts for Mosley out there anyway.

Jaron (Colorado Springs)

Hey RAF!my thoughts and money are on a ward stoppage of Green in rounds 10-12...i could see ward up almost every rd and the ref or corner stopping this one---what do you think?keep up the great work, your friday chats give me something to look forward to

Dan Rafael
  (12:04 PM)

I could see it. I like Ward by a decision.

Todd (Florence, SC)

Hey Dan - It seems like HBO has invested a lot in JuanMa and building towards a fight with Gamboa. So, why would his potential fight with Marquez land on Showtime? Is Marquez contractually tied to them?

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

HBO and Top Rank met about some different guys and HBO would have liked to show all of them -- Lopez, Gamboa, Anthony Peterson and Valero (this was before he died). They didn't have the money to do all of them, so Lopez was the one who they let go believing Arum could keep him going without their support, they thought on a PPV. Arum took him to Showtime for the July 10 Concepcion fight. Now if Lopez fight Marquez, it would also be on Showtime. And I would imagine Showtime has some sort of first/last option on his next fight.

miguel (los angeles)

Did you see the NBA finals woooo LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

Yes, I watched the whole series. I am a Knicks fan, so I despise the Celtics and anything else Boston related. So I was rooting for LA.

Donovan (Chicago,IL)

Hey Dan I would like to know who is Fernando Montiel fighting next, i have seen news reporting that he will fight rafael concepcion , and then i hear that he will later fight eric morel , can you tell me who is he really fighting

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

Eric Morel on July 17 is the plan. They had a purse bid last week.

julio (chicago,IL)

hey dan good job on the notebook, but my question is this what has happen with humberto soto

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

Soto is a l ittle in limbo. He defended his lightweight title a month or so ago and now probably is going to go to junior welterweight although there are no definitive plans yet that I am aware of.

phil (west seneca, ny)

Thoughts on gary shaw ripping golden boy protecting amir khan?

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

Gary is right. But it's business and Khan generates money and there are still good fights for him besides Bradley or Alexander right now. But Gary knows about protecting guys, like he's been trying to do with Angulo. It's part of the business.

chuzen (st. louis)

in the notebook, it stated the gamboa fight will be postponed for later this year. when it is rescheduled, will rios v peterson still be part of the broadcast?

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

That is all up in the air.

Joe (Columbia, SC)

Any truth to the rumor that HBO is considering bringing Sugar Ray Leonard back as a boxing commentator?

Dan Rafael
  (12:10 PM)

No. HBO is not hiring another full-time guy. They have looked around for somebody to fill in for Emanuel from time to time if Manny is training somebody, and maybe Ray could be that guy here or there, like Roy Jones was a couple of weeks ago.

Joel (Eastchester, NY)

Dan, I was very impressed with David Lemieux's performance last Friday, where does he go from here?

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 PM)

Just keep stepping up the level of competition slowly but surely. He's only 21 and has a bright future if handled properly. He has a good and experienced team behind him in promtoer Yvon Michel and trainer Russ Amber.

Bryant (Pitt)

Dan it's been awhile since Berto fought has his shoulder fully healed?would he be interested in shaws tourney?

Dan Rafael
  (12:12 PM)

It hasn't been awhile. He just fought in mid-April. His shoulder is healing and he will be ready for a fall fight, but not in any kind of jr welter tourney. Andre told me he isn't going down to 140. He would consider dropping down to maybe 144 or 143 if there was a really big fight but not all the way to 140.

Milton (Raleigh, NC)

Dan, Love the notebook. Top notch as usual. Is the idea of a jr welterweight tournament completely dead or could it be carried out with another network?

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 PM)

Dead for now. There is no other network to do it. Showtime has the super middles and the junior welters are tied to HBO and many of the top guys are with Golden Boy, which isn't interested in a tourney.

Steve (Minneapolis)

With the love child failing to meet your expectations, is there a chance that a new "love child" fighter could make your watch list?

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 PM)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child. There is only one and always will be only one LC.

Oscar (Clearwater,FL)

Hey Dan, Why doesn't Perro Angulo fight Sergei Dzinziruk? is it only because they have the same promoter?

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 PM)

No, it's because Gary is protecting Angulo from Dznziruk because Dzinziruk would toy with El Perro.

Jerry (Winston-Salem)

I think a cruiserweight Super Six is a terrible idea. There simply aren?t enough quality names in that division to fill the roster. Not unless Adamek goes down and Pascal and Dawson move up.

Dan Rafael
  (12:15 PM)

If Sauerland does that kind of tourney, it would be a European event I would imagine and folks over there would probably be excited by it.

Giuseppe (bucks)

Did Bob Arum really go third person and refer to himself as "Arum"?

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 PM)

Yes, in the notebook. He did say that to Dan Rafael.

Milton (Raleigh, NC)

Thoughts on Casamayor and Guerrero? I got ghost by a mile.

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 PM)

Like the fight a lot. Toss up to me.

Willie (Little Rock)

All is quiet of the Mayweather-Pacquaio front. Is this a good thing?

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 PM)

Tom E (Jersey City, NJ)

Awesome point about Shaw, Dan. He's got some stones calling out GBP for protecting Kahn when we're finding out that he won't put Perro in with The Razor.

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

Pot calling the kettle black. Golden Boy wanted to make Erislandy Lara with Angulo. Gary said no. That's cool. But he was protecting Angulo, and there is nothing wrong with that. Just remember that when you call somebody else out for the same thing.

Thomas (UCONN)

If Haye ducks the Klitschkos this year, do you still believe Vitali will retire by year?s end?

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

No, Vitali will fight in about October.

Brandon (DE)

Why would you want to see Cotto-Mosley espically @ 147

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

Who said I wanted to see that again? I want to see Cotto-Berto.

chuzen (st. louis)

is the september 18 golden boy ppv something that they would be doing together with HBO? or on their own?

Dan Rafael
  (12:19 PM)

That has not been determined.

Corey (WestWick)

I think Allen Green has a real real good shot of beating Ward tomorrow nite he only has the one loss inwitch if you recall he had a hard time making weight and still almost came back and won

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

I was in Puerto Rico for Green's loss to Miranda. The fight was at 162 and Green insisted he could make weight. He was talking about coming down to middleweight at the time. That is not why he lost. He was sick before the fight and Miranda was pretty good that night.

chuzen (st. louis)

dan, have you booked your ticket to st. louis yet?

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

Not yet, but I plan to.

paulie (austin)

so no boxing on july 24th??

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

Not on HBO.

Craig (DE)

Who else besides Valuev could Vitali fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:21 PM)

Anyone in the WBC's top 15 and still make money.

Leo (Philly)

Do you know if Donald Trump permanently got out of the fight business? I remember when there used to be loads of big fights in Atlantic City. Now, not so much.

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

I don't know about permanently, but The Donald hasn't been involved in boxing for many years.

paulie (austin)

have u heard anything on a hopkins-bute fight??

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

Golden Boy keeps pushing it. I have no interest.

Koichi (NYC)

What's the next fight you're going to be ringside for?

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

Marquez-Diaz II.

chuzen (st. louis)

so is it official, will there be a RAD?

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

Probably there will be tomorrow night after Ward-Green.

phil (west seneca, ny)

Any news on marcos maidaina and who he might fight next?

Dan Rafael
  (12:24 PM)

No opponent yet but he is splitting from his manager, whom he accuses of not disclosing the real money offered for certain fights. Golden Boy is going to help him do a smaller fight in his native Argentina this summer and then hopes to have him in a big fight in the US later this year.

Lou (Detroit)

The one thing that Fight Camp 360 is missing is Bob Arum. I would love to see him mix it up with Shaw, Goosen, Dibella, etc. What theater!

phil (west seneca, ny)

Is hopkins-bute just talk or does it have a legit chance at happening?

Dan Rafael
  (12:24 PM)

I think Golden Boy is trying to will it to happen. I hope HBO doesn't fall for it.

paulie (austin)

i like that july 31st undercard very nice from golden boy when was the last time you watched a ppv undercard that good??

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

Hell of an undercard. I would say the last one like that was when GB put on a great undercard for Barrera-Juarez II.

Joey (Richmond, VA)

Dan, ever been on the Mike and Mike morning show?

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

Nope. Their loss.

Steve (NYC)

How about Areola Mandalone for FNF? It should be a fun shootout while it lasts.

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

Would be fun, you're right.

Steve (NYC)

How big a joke is Haye? Audley Harrison is a horrible choice. So his heavy resume is Two Gunz, A-Fraud and Valuev?

Dan Rafael
  (12:26 PM)

Bigger joke than anything you could hear from Conan O'Brien and Jon Stewart put together.

Joe (NJ)

Dan we must both have the same BS detector. Cause mine exploded after reading Don Kings press release

Bryant (Pitt)

DaniMal if you had one event to go what would it be Yankees vs phillies game 7 world series, KISS final concert, or Pacman/Mayweather....your choice..

Dan Rafael
  (12:27 PM)

Damn that's tough. I would probably have to pick Pacquiao-Mayweather. But on that note, I do have tickets for the Aug. 21 KISS concert in Bristow, VA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John (Jersey)

Calderon was spectacular on Saturday... reminded me of a tiny Pernell... Iribe literally couldn't reach out and touch him for all of the 11th round...

Brock (illinois)

king freak in the Lou? I will be there too. Lookin forward to seeing Alexander the Great again and seeing what Glen Johnson has left.

Dan Rafael
  (12:28 PM)

I've never been to the Lou and I am hoping for a good time.

Shawn (Tempe)

How about a final KISS concert after Pac/Mayweather, at Yankee Stadium?

Dan Rafael
  (12:28 PM)

I would probably pass out.

Jake (Joliet)

Hey Dan-O, do you know when the purse bid is scheduled for Wlad-Povetkin?

Dan Rafael
  (12:28 PM)

Somebody didn't read today's notebook.

phil (west seneca, ny)

Update on who wladimir klitschko will fight next?

Dan Rafael
  (12:29 PM)

Povetkin in mid-September pending the outcome of the purse bid.

paulie (austin)

looks like hbo has a big fall for boxing planned??

Dan Rafael
  (12:30 PM)

As it always does.

Koichi (NYC)

What if KISS's final concert opened up the Pac/Mayweather fight which would be held at Yankee Stadium prior to game 7 of the Yankees v Phils World Series, then that's your dream night lol

Dan Rafael
  (12:31 PM)

My head is going to explode.

Paulie (Newark)

I think if Ken Norton and Ingemar Johanson can make it into the hall of fame, the boxing writers can make room for the Klitschkos.

Dan Rafael
  (12:32 PM)

Regardless of the guys you mentioned, both Klitschkos are probably headed for the HOF. They are the dominant heavyweights of their time and have both been excellent champions.

Keith H (Seattle)

Thanks, Dan. I appreciate the kind words. (Had to "alt-tab" for awhile.)

Dan Rafael
  (12:32 PM)

LOL!

Vegas (Horn)

There is officially a APB on David Haye's heart.

Dan Rafael
  (12:32 PM)

Why would you put out an APB on something that doesn't exist?

Don King (BSville)

Dan, in anticipation of you offering me your Freakdom...I accept your offer! I will send out a press release immediately.

Ankur (New Jersey)

Dan, how's its going? Question, i am relatively new to the boxing game, but what exactly is a purse bid, and why do they happen?

Dan Rafael
  (12:35 PM)

OK, rookies, here is the answer: A purse bid is for a mandatory fight, be it an eliminator or a title fight, in a particular organization. If the promtoters of the boxers in a mandatory fight cannot reach a deal, the organization calls a purse bid and opens the bout to an auction. Any registered promoter can bid on the fight and the promoter who bids the most gets the rights to the fight. The winning bid is divided between the fighters for their purse. Each organization has rules and regs as to the percentage splits in various situations and promoters pay a fee to register and bid, etc...

Alexandre (Montreal)

Dan, have you touched base with your buddy Russ Anber since the Lemieux fight ? I heard him on the radio monday and he was NOT pleased with Teddy Atlas' assesment of Lemieux's talent, how he didn't understand why everyone was hyped about him and didn't give a reason why ...

Dan Rafael
  (12:36 PM)

We have exchanged emails. I liked what I saw from Lemiuex and have no idea why Teddy was so critical since he didn't explain it.

Joey (Chicago, IL)

Any idea where the Super Six semis and finals will be held, and is it a given they will take place in the United States?

Dan Rafael
  (12:36 PM)

The finals are supposed to be in the United States at TBA.

Aaron (MA)

do you think Gamboa will still fight in the summer, just to keep busy?

Dan Rafael
  (12:36 PM)

No.

Darren (Dallas,Tx)

People may pick on Gerry Cooney but his K.O of Ken Norton is one of the sickiest K.O's ive scene from a heavyweight fight. Youtube it people

Dan Rafael
  (12:37 PM)

Absolutely freakin' brutal KO. I am fortunate enough to have a beautiful DVD of that full HBO telecast.

David (New York, NY)

With Morales and Barrera both kind of "hanging around" do you think there's any shot of a 4th fight between them?

Dan Rafael
  (12:38 PM)

Yup. And if they fight again, I'll plan to go.

Bryant (Pitt)

Dan Teddy atlas had said numerous times povetkin isnot ready for wlad, so why take the fight now? Isn't he beat mentally already?

Dan Rafael
  (12:38 PM)

Not sure how it will play out but Teddy is the trainer, not the manager or promoter.

John (Jersey)

Please tell Richard Schaefer the Sports Gods rewarded his good-faith showing of a Fight Freak Undercard on the Marquez-Diaz II night with a Swiss upset over Spain in the World Cup..., and the Freaks know that that's why they won...

Dan Rafael
  (12:39 PM)

Exactly!

Raymond (Lexington, KY)

David Haye has not only squandered a lucrative opportunity, he has single-handedly made a mockery of the heavyweight division.

John (Jersey)

Danno,Did you fall asleep while writing the part of the Marquez-Diaz bit about the World Cup? I know how much you hate the soccer... I'm surprised we haven't heard more from Boxers about soccer... similar fan bases, and you get guys who are apparently damn good at both... Hatton was apparently pretty good...

Dan Rafael
  (12:41 PM)

Believe it or not, I actually watched a few minutes of US-Slovenia today and saw the US game-tying goal.

Kevin (Fall River)

I have no interest in Pacquiao vs. Cotto II. Do you have any interest or possibly see the fight going any other way?

Dan Rafael
  (12:42 PM)

There are other fights I would rather see for both guys. I don't think a rematch would make too much sense. IF it happened, I'd hope it was at least at 154 so there would be some interest in seeing if Pacquiao could win a title in an eighth division.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

What is the Best & the Worst Sports Stadium or Arena that Boxing is held at that you have Been to?

Dan Rafael
  (12:43 PM)

I've been to many arenas around the country. MGM and Mandalay Bay are great for fights. Thomas & Mack Center should be imploded. Cowboys Stadium was awesome. Yankee Stadium was amazing.

Chris (Cleveland)

What are your thoughts on recent Notre Dame grad Mike Lee after his pro debut? Obviously his career will move slowly, but do you see him having the tools to compete for a championship once he learns and gains experience?

Dan Rafael
  (12:44 PM)

For a pro debut with very little amateur experience, I thought Lee looked promising. He's obviously a good athlete and he has a top trainer teaching him in Ronnie Shields.

Isaiah (Seattle)

Dan was watching some old Floyd fights (Chavez, Ndou, Mandfedy, Gatti) and it made me even more excited for PACMAN fight! People don't realize that usually the more Floyd gets pressured the more he opens up and can actually make good actions fights in that case. That's why i think that fight with Manny has the makings of a classic, your thoughts?

Dan Rafael
  (12:45 PM)

I agree.

Shawn (Tempe)

I'm with Kevin on that one, too. Would love to see a Cotto-Berto or Cotto-Angulo, though.

JJD (Seattle)

I disagree on the relative merits of a cruiserweight tourney. I think any time there is a wide-open division in the eyes of the public, any way you can get several top guys to fight each other is a good thing.

Dan Rafael
  (12:47 PM)

Exactly. If a tournament in boxing means the best fighting the best in the division there is nothing wrong with that.

Jeff (Gilbert, AZ)

D$,I'm reading a lot of negative things about Haye this morning....Everyone needs to remember the huge blessing he gave us by retiring Ruiz!!!! Give the man some love!!!

Dan Rafael
  (12:47 PM)

Say what you want about Ruiz, but he didn't duck anyone.

Ankur (New Jersey)

Do you personally think the fight with Manny and Mayweather will happen?

Dan Rafael
  (12:47 PM)

Yes. Eventually it will happen.

Joe (NJ)

This just in. Kevin"Kingpin" Johnson is fighting tonight. Anybody care? I wish he'd move out of NJ

Dan Rafael
  (12:48 PM)

Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Darren (Dallas,Tx)

On a average week, how many old fights from your dvd collection do you watch?

Dan Rafael
  (12:48 PM)

Depends on how busy I am in a given week or if I am traveling, but I usally find time for some.

Ankur (New Jersey)

What do you think Cotto's chances are if he were to rematch Margarito? Do you really think he is a changed fighter?

Dan Rafael
  (12:49 PM)

I would give him a chance of course. He was dominating the first half of the fight they had. And I think Margarito looked pretty bad in his comeback fight at 154 a month or two ago. If they do have a rematch I hope it's at 154.

Julio (DFW)

Do you give Pascal any chance of beating Dawson?

Dan Rafael
  (12:49 PM)

Absolutely.

Robb (Lawrence, MA)

I see you mention boxing dvd's, but being the lameo that I am I've gotta ask: where do you find these? The sites I found online seemed kinda shady

Dan Rafael
  (12:51 PM)

I've been collecting fights since the early 1990s. I have recorded virtually all televised boxing in the United States for close to 20 years. I have also traded for many years with a trusted group of trading partners. I don't buy DVDs. I record 'em myself or trade with folks from around the world.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, I'll be at Ward/Green tomorrow and hearing that Holt has pulled out I also hear that Thompson pulled out, is that true?

Dan Rafael
  (12:52 PM)

Now Steve, Steve, Steve. You are a longtime Freak. So it saddens me to have to suspend you for the day for not reading about either situation, one in this week's notebook and one in last week's. I am ashamed of you. As a longtime Freak I know you know the rules.

Darren (Dallas,Tx)

I read a great joke today, someone is charging $24.99 ppv for the David Tua vs Barrett fight. Ha Ha Ha

Charles (DFW)

How big an upset would it be if Audley Harrison beats David Haye Nov. 13? Does he shed the underachiever label if he does?

Dan Rafael
  (12:53 PM)

One thing about Audley is he can bang so if he catches Haye like he did Sprott in their rematch, Haye will go to sleep. It would be an upset, but not THAT massive an upset.

miguel (los angeles)

question about HBO. Why didnt we see a trio of merchant, lampley and kellerman? i know kellerman is being groomed to replace merchant but why cant they work together now like when manny is out?

Dan Rafael
  (12:54 PM)

You are 100 percent right. I have said the same thing before. I would love to see Max and Larry on the same telecast once in awhile. Why not? I think it would be awesome.

Mike (chicago )

You think Margarito was cheating in the cotto fight, i do.

Dan Rafael
  (12:54 PM)

Do you think the sun came up today?

Julio (DFW)

In your opinion what does Dawson have to do to bring in fans? Should he be more vocal i.e. Mayweather??

Dan Rafael
  (12:55 PM)

That probably wouldn't hurt, but that is not Chad's personality. He's more of a quiet, respectful guy.

Bobby (Queens)

DTM, I know Margarito altered his style a bit in his last fight but if Cotto/Margartio II does happen would he just revert back to the old attack mode? If he still has that in him.

Dan Rafael
  (12:55 PM)

Probably you're right.

Brendan (Plymouth, MA)

How important is it for younger fighters to go rounds? I'm sure Lemieux's handlers would have liked to see him stretch himself out a little more. Do his people look for someone with a record of staying upright for his next fight? Could blasting everyone out in the 1st hurt a fighter when they get to the championship level?

Dan Rafael
  (12:56 PM)

I think it is important. Frankly, I think David's people thought Ayala would go rounds with him. I mean Ayala had gone into the 12th with Abraham. I was not surprised Lemieux won the fight or even that he stopped Ayala. I was surprised he did it in the first round.

Charles (DFW)

If Mayweather doesn't fight Manny next, could you see him challenging Sergio Martinez for the middleweight title at a 155-156 catchweight, just to say he won a middleweight title?

Dan Rafael
  (12:57 PM)

Very possible and the Mayweather camp has discussed that very possibility with the Martinez camp.

Sam (Manchester)

Hey Dan,Adam Booth said on radio here that there was no 50/50 no options offer from K2.Hes lying right?

Dan Rafael
  (12:57 PM)

As far as I know, he is not being truthful.

JP (L.A. City of Champions) [via mobile]

Dan, why doesn't a major network pay for the mann vs floyd fight? There's obviously huge interest in the fight and sponsors will pay huge money for it as the ratings for this fight will be huge as well?

Dan Rafael
  (12:58 PM)

On PPV the fight will generate hundreds of millions of dollars. No network could pay enough to keep it off PPV.

Jonny (Fallbrook, CA)

If Howard Cosell and Larry Merchant would have boxed both at age 65 who's your money on?

Dan Rafael
  (12:58 PM)

Merchant. He's a scrappy guy.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, Found it, what can I say. I blew it

Dan Rafael
  (12:59 PM)

Don't let it happen again.

Larry (NJ)

at least Angulo duckng the Razor, means he has to give up his bs title

Dan Rafael
  (12:59 PM)

Good point.

Brian (Anaheim, CA)

Odds of Schaeffer calling the bat phone during chat time to officially announce Pac Mayweather on Nov. 13......

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 PM)

Not good.

Robb (Lawrence, MA)

If Cotto strings together some good wins at 154 does he get into the HOF?

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 PM)

He's already made a pretty good case.

John (Phoenix)

Godfrey/Huck. You still mad at Godfrey?

Dan Rafael
  (1:01 PM)

I was never mad at him. I just called out the poor decision making of him and his team.

Don King (BSville)

Dan, no more lies. No more deceit. Just offer me your freakness.

Bubba (ottawa il)

Whats up king freak? Just stopping by to say hello. Great notebook and blogs this week. And i wanna give a shout out to Golden boy for giving us a hell of an undercard for diaz-JMM 2. Other then that am just hear to read today.

Dan Rafael
  (1:01 PM)

Seems like a lot of Fight Freaks really like the GB undercard for July 31 from what I am seeing in the comments being sent to me. I have to give GB credit for delivering what they promised -- a real Freak card.

Enrique (Chicago)

Back to that Kiss concert, would it still be a good night if the agreement was that the concert would take place after the fight but if Pacquiao won, he would be the lead singer for kiss for the night?

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 PM)

Hilarious. Would Manny wear makeup?

Wes (Philly)

I'm going to Atlantic City in a couple weeks to watch Mike Jones fight and was wondering how good to you think he can be?

Dan Rafael
  (1:03 PM)

I like Mike's potential. I think in a couple of more fights he can become a serious player in the 147 division. Between his ability, appealing style and the fact that he can sell some tickets, it's all good for him.

Greg (LV)

Dan, who you rank higher all time at Heavyweight Lennox or Holyfield?

Dan Rafael
  (1:03 PM)

Lennox.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Props to Richard Schafer for his shout out to us Freaks

Julio (DFW)

The WBA makes me sick. Three jr. Banta champs. No mandatory fights being made

Dan Rafael
  (1:04 PM)

Welcome to my world.

Bk don (brooklyn)

I read that Fernando Vargas' former manager ripped him off of millions and that he's contemplating fighting again, b/c he needs the money. What do you know about the situation?

Dan Rafael
  (1:04 PM)

Just what I've read. Would be a real shame if Vargas tried to fight again.

Jeremy (NY)

Hey DTM. Heard Joe Tess say 60 Minutes was following Pacman around in NY during Cotto - Foreman weekend. Any idea when that airs?

Dan Rafael
  (1:05 PM)

This fall I believe.

Robb (Lawrence, MA)

Have you seen Frankie Gomez fight yet? Youngster out of East LA been on Fight Night Club recently. The kids got some serious power. You think he's going places?

Dan Rafael
  (1:05 PM)

I've seen all of his fights so far and some amateur fights. Good prospect.

Michael (Oakland)

D, I'll be at the Ward-Green fight tomorrow night at Oracle Arena. Hopefully I wont get shot.....

Dan Rafael
  (1:05 PM)

Yeah, because that's always what I think about when I go out -- that I won't get shot.

Jordan (Canada)

Manny Pacquiao vs Aaron Pryor @ 140lbs, who wins?

Dan Rafael
  (1:05 PM)

Sick fight.

Jorge (East Los Angeles)

Dan, Long time no chat! It was good to see Sergei Dzindziruk get some US exposure on Showtime a few weeks back, any word on what Shaw has planned for him next? The kid has a great jab and would be a tough out for anybody at 54.

Dan Rafael
  (1:06 PM)

Nothing planned for him now but I know his promoters would like to bring him back in the fall.

Shawn (Tempe)

I agree about Vargas, he would get killed at lt. heavyweight

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 PM)

Why so light?

Joe (PA)

Will there ever be an official ruling on the RJJ protest of his loss to Danny Green?

Dan Rafael
  (1:08 PM)

Yeah, it's called TKO1.

Michael (Oakland)

D, Buying or selling JCC Jr. (and I quote) "catching on like fire" in Roach's wildcard gym?

Dan Rafael
  (1:09 PM)

Sell. Chavez is a fraud until proven otherwise.

Bing (First Take HQ)

Didn't Merchant, Lampley and Kellerman work together on the Balboa/Dixon fight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:09 PM)

YES! Good call.

Jose Sulaiman (WBC)

I am pleased to announce that the upcoming Chavez-Duddy match in San Antonio will be for the interim Continental Americas middleweight silver belt. The winner also receives an option to upgrade to a full Cubic Zirconia Belt, for a small sanctioning fee of course.

chuzen (st. louis)

dan let's pretend haye finds his heart and fights a klitschko, does it automatically happen somewhere in europe, or is it possible for it to happen in vegas?

Dan Rafael
  (1:10 PM)

I would imagine if it ever happens it would be in Europe.

Camacho (Yucaipa)

Any chance you'll come to Cali for the Bradley/Angulo fight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:10 PM)

Zero chance.

Robb (Lawrence, MA)

It's been almost six-full months. What's your fight of the half-year?

Dan Rafael
  (1:11 PM)

Off the top of my head maybe Kessler-Froch or Escalante-Roman from ESPN2. It hasn't been a great year so far for action fights.

Greg P (Staten Island,NY)

Dan, remember when Pavlik/Abraham was one of the top 3 fights out there(look what has transpired since)...thats how Bradley/Alexander is now.....Do you think we see this fight before one of them gets a loss and ruins a potential undefeated title vs title matchup?

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

I think that one has a better chance of happening than Pavlik-Abraham because Pavlik and Abraham generated good money on their own in their own countries. Alexander and Bradley are both excellent fighters but neither has been generating big money at this point and they would need each other more than Pavlik and Abraham needed each other. Plus, both are fighting on HBO, which can help induce the fight whereas Abraham's promoter had its own TV deal in Germany and didn't really need HBO or Showtime at the time the fight was hot.

Jeremy (NY)

Was watching Lewis - Tyson on youtube and Fran Charles was commentating. Why didn't Jim Lampley call that fight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:15 PM)

HBO and Showtime's deal was that they used their announcers together on the live PPV -- so Lampley called the live PPV with Bobby Czyz, who was Showtime's analyst at the time. Fran Charles called the action for the HBO replay, which HBO televised because Lewis (its fighter) won the fight. Showtime also had a team at ringside calling the action for a potential delayed broadcast in the event Tyson won. Showtime's team was Steve Albert and Sugar Ray Leonard. Tyson lost so that version never aired. But I am proud to say that I have a copy of that unaired telecast in my DVD collection.

Mike (Los Angeles)

Too Bad HBO shot down the Jr. Middle Weight Tournament. Would been nice to see who Bradley, Alexander, Khan, Madiena fight against each other.

Dan Rafael
  (1:16 PM)

A) HBO didn't shoot it down. Golden Boy did. B) It's junior welterweights, not junior middleweights. Your grade for the day is F.

Camacho (Yucaipa)

Is it safe to say a lot of fighters aren't taking any fights until Pacman/Mayweather is or is not made? Reason being they would like their 2nd option

Dan Rafael
  (1:16 PM)

Exactly. There is a logjam until that fight is made or not made.

Robert the Genius (Greater Philly / Southern NJ)

Reasons boxing makes me mad: 1) juanma vs gamboa 2) Haye vs. either Klitschko 3) Pacman vs Mayweather 4) Alexander vs Bradley 5) Maidana vs Khan - Why arent these fights happening?

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 PM)

You're the genius. Figure it out.

jerrell ((Alabama))

Do you think froch is a little fearful of abraham cause he knows he getting knocked out?

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 PM)

I think he's mentally broken over the Kessler loss.

Javier (Puerto Rico)

dan has kermit cintron ever fought on showtime since he left shobox? I will love to see him fight dzinziruk on the fall on showtime

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 PM)

Solid fight.

Jim (NY)

whtever happened to Bobby Czyz as an announcer?

Dan Rafael
  (1:18 PM)

He got fired.

Kris (Scottsdale, Arizona)

Who would you pick in a Super Six Tourney with Popo...Thunder....Garfield....Heathcliff....Tom(Tom&Jerry)...and Toonces from SNL?

Dan Rafael
  (1:18 PM)

Tough call, but defintely not Toonces. He would drive over a cliff before the tournament even started.

Dan Rafael
  (1:20 PM)

OK, my wife has weighed on on the Cat Super Six. Here are her predictions: Thunder sits on Garfield, Tom and Heathcliff double TKO and Popo wins by default when Toonces crashes.

greg (denver)

dan, how is lennox ranked higher than holyfield when lennox needed a past prime, broke tyson to become a big deal? without that fight we arent even talking about him.

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 PM)

Ummm you may recall Lennox beat Holyfield twice (despite the BS draw). Maybe Lewis beating Klitschko by TKO is something that you are forgetting. Maybe Lewis knocking most guys dead or shutting out David Tua or avenging both of his career losses or stopping Riddick Bowe for a gold medal has escaped your mind?

Julio (DFW)

Dan can you please explain to Goosen that no WW is going to fight Paul Williams and they should stop campaigning in that division.

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 PM)

Deaf ears.

Frenchie (Long Beach)

Will Golden Boy be moving Lara aggressively this year? A title shot by early 2011?

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 PM)

I think they will try. That is what his team wants.

miguel (los angeles)

i think robert the genius should change his name to robert the obvious

Dan Rafael
  (1:23 PM)

How about Robert The Banned?

Michael (Oakland)

Maybe Vargas can fight Joan Guzman if he returns. Guzman should have no problem making weight....heavyweight.

Dan Rafael
  (1:23 PM)

Pay the man, Shirley.

Dave L (NS, RI)

I dont know to much about Green but I think Ward is legit. Does Green desrve to be in the tournament? How do you see this fight ending?

Dan Rafael
  (1:25 PM)

Allan deserves to be in there since there is no Bute. Allan is a good fighter and an excellent puncher. I see him giving Ward a few tough moments but Ward coming through.

Bk don (brooklyn)

Shannon Briggs is now in ranked in the WBC top 15. Look for him to fight Vital in Oct at MSG, b/c Team Valuev will outprice themselves. You heard it hear first!

Dan Rafael
  (1:26 PM)

I was thinking the same thing when I looked at the crappy WBC rankings. So let Shannon go to Germany, talk a lot of nonsense and KTFO. At least he'll make a few bucks.

John (Phoenix)

Dan, Allan Green is a 4/1 dog. Doesnt that seem a bit much?

Dan Rafael
  (1:26 PM)

Yes it does.

Jeff (Redondo Beach, CA)

I just wanted to tell you to keep up the good work on the blogs. I have been on lots of airplanes lately and I haven't missed one in awhile. Thanks for all the inside info!

Dan Rafael
  (1:26 PM)

You got it Freak.

Derek (edmonton, alberta)

Typical ignorant post regarding the greatness of Lewis by Greg in Denver

German (Yonkers, NY)

Dan, I would love to see John take on Caballero later on this fall - can you see it coming off?

Dan Rafael
  (1:27 PM)

Good fight obviously, but I don't see it happening. Neither guy is a draw here and I don't see there being enough money to entice Caballero to go to Indonesia.

Camacho (Yucaipa)

What did you think about Martinez retaining the 160 belt? I thought it was a horrible choice since there are more interesting fights at 154

Dan Rafael
  (1:27 PM)

I was not surprised at all and expected that all along.

Derek (edmonton, alberta)

To some of the American haters, nothing Lewis ever did will equal Evander's barnstorming title reign of 42 year old Larry Holmes, 42 year old fat Foreman, and perenial ESPN B-fighter Bert Cooper before losing to Bowe...

Dan Rafael
  (1:29 PM)

In fairness, he did beat Moorer in the rematch by knockout and twice beat Tyson when he was a huge underdog.

Rick (SpringTown)

DTM- Do you know what the turn out looks like for the Ward fight? I heard aound 10k but it seems like there are a ton of tickets left??

Dan Rafael
  (1:31 PM)

I am told that ticket sales have been VERY, VERY soft for the fight. So soft that Goossen tried to cut $50,000 from the $140,000 he had agreed to pay DiBella for the gate. It almost got the fight called off this week. It was a mess but it was worked out. The show, from what I am told, isn't so hot at the gate. It's a good fight though and hopefully it will pick up with a couple of days left to seel tickets and get some more publicity.

Joe (NJ)

Tough to imagine a guy with 13 loses can be rated so high( Glen Johnson) Although he is a tough and pretty active fighter. Is the Light Heavyweight division that bad?

Dan Rafael
  (1:31 PM)

No, you are just not educated about Glen Johnson.

Paul B (NY, NY)

Danimal- please share with Schaefer that the freaks really do apreciate his efforts on this card. Honestly, the undercard has clearly put me over the top to get this one. Can't believe he added a 4th solid scrap. I think this could be the best undercard I have seen in a LONG time.

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 PM)

I will pass it along.

Kermit (Detroit)

Dan, under the Super 6 rules, what happens if there is a dispute as to the location of a fight? Who has the final call?

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 PM)

I believe Showtime has the final say.

JJD (Seattle)

How can someone say Sergio Martinez made a "horrible" choice to stay at 160, when he cited the difficulty in getting back to 154 as the reason. We've seen plenty of guys come out worse when going up to a weight class then coming back down (like Roy Jones and Oscar de la Hoya).

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 PM)

Exactly.

Greg (Armonk, NY)

Cool....60 Minutes piece to air in the fall just in time to help promote the November fight with Mayweather :)

Michael (Oakland)

Well what did Goosen expect? No Tony Thompson, No Kendall Holt? Bay Area local Karim Mayfield just fought 2 weeks ago so he is a no go....And it's true. When I ordered my ticket last week I was shocked what was still available.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, There are A Lot of tickets left for Ward/Green. I think a lot of it is because no many people know Allan Green. At the Ward/Kessler fight ther were tons of Kessler fans there

Derek (edmonton, alberta)

Yes. Evander is great. Add in his marvelous cruiser campaign and there is no denying his greatness. I just get a little tired of the bias and rose coloured glasses...

Dan Rafael
  (1:34 PM)

I agree that Evander is an all-time great. I just happen to think Lewis, who beat him head to head, is greater.

TFierst (MN)

Can someone just please say it? Bradley is ducking Alexander.

Dan Rafael
  (1:35 PM)

You are an idiot.

Huff (DeKalb, IL)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oK2BLeYprfg , Larry Merchant showing his scrappiness after the McCullough fight

Chris (Alabama)

Why do people think its hayes heart thats he cant find, is his spine IMO.

Dan Rafael
  (1:36 PM)

That too.

Andrew (Nashville)

I just threw away my David Haye bobblehead. And then it asked to be moved to a trash can less threatening.

Dan Rafael
  (1:36 PM)

Ahhhh, the return of the bobblehead jokes. It's been awhile.

Sean (Richmond, VA)

Allan Green is in a great position because he knows his next two fights are going to be for championship belts, win, lose or draw.

Dan Rafael
  (1:37 PM)

You're right. Just luck of the draw the way the tourney schedule worked and that Ward and then Kessler picked up titles in their previous fights.

Chris (Bay Area)

Dan, I will 100% be at the Ward fight tomorrow. I to am worried about the attendance. Is the lack of excitement because Green isnt a household name where Taylor was? I dont get it, I hope there is a good crowd for a great fight.P.S. I have used Alt-Tab about 3 times during this chat

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 PM)

I'd be fascinated if you had said you would be 85% percent at the fight. I would have spent the rest of the weekend wondering where the other 15% of you was.

Greg (Calgary)

Dan, is it just me or has the number of HBO PPV's dramatically down over the last couple years

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 PM)

It's down and that is by design.

G$ (Bay Area)

I live in the Bay Area and the marketing/promoting for the fight hasnt been the same compared to the Kessler and Miranda fights. Ward was on radio and tv interviews before, not so much this time. Think Green being an unknown could be a reason for the poor ticket sales.

Marc (Philly)

Omar Sheika - Jim Strohl LIVE tonight on gofightlive.tv...WHO R U PICKING

Dan Rafael
  (1:39 PM)

You can keep that crapola for $9.99. I'm not sure I would watch it for free.

Mitch (Oakland)

I'm going tomorrow Dan. I can't believe it. Sooooo freakin' excited. Or as they say in Oakland, I'm hella excited.

Dan Rafael
  (1:39 PM)

Have a great time.

Rock (NY)

GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL Oh, sorry, wrong chat.

Dan Rafael
  (1:40 PM)

LOL!

Rick (SpringTown)

DTM- Another thing I've heard people talk about is they dont think Green has a chance. He's not a big draw, doesnt bring a fan base here in Cali and a lot people just seem to think Ward will walk right threw him in the Bay. There are still ringside seats left. The undercard just sucks. Maybe you can get Goosen to hang out with Schafear.

Dan Rafael
  (1:41 PM)

The undercard is not so great but it's not the promoter's fault that Holt pulled out and Thompson got injured.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, here is my Ward/Green prediction, I think Green wins by late round TKO. You heard it hear first

Rob (NYC)

Just watched the Ken Norton knockouy by Cooney....OMG, Freakin brutal...loved it.

Dan Rafael
  (1:41 PM)

Told ya.

Jeremy (NY)

That was quite the explantion. My god, HBO and Showtime must've hated working together if they were that petty with announcers and replay broadcasts.

Dan Rafael
  (1:42 PM)

Dude I covered the negotiations for like two years. They were brutal. It was almost as bad as Pacquiao and Mayweather. To this day when folks ask me if a fight can be made my answer is that if they could make Lewis-Tyson ANY fight can be made.

Robb (Lawrence, MA)

hey there were no weekly random thoughts!! not even a dvd pick of the week! therefore, give me a few random thoughts and a fight to watch (on top of froch/kessler from earlier)

Dan Rafael
  (1:43 PM)

Actually, I wrote a random thoughts for today but held off when the King/Klitschko thing came up so there will be a random thought blog tomorrow.

Jose Sulaiman (Mexico)

Just wanted to announce that Alt+Tab is now in the WBC rankings and anyone using these 2 keys without express permission from me, or having submitted a fee for doing so should expect a letter from me warning you. Furthermore Alt Tab can no longer be used in the state of Arizona.

Rick (SpringTown)

DTM- I actually have seen a lot of promotion for the fight. I just think the Allen Green factor kills it.

Tomas (Tx)

Sorry im late Dano. Im really impressed with the July 31st card, best card Ive seen in a while. Rocky Juarez keeps getting break after break in big fights and doesnt come out on top. Any chance that changes this time around?

Dan Rafael
  (1:44 PM)

No idea. But to me, that is the weakest fight on the ppv, and still not all that bad.

jeff (Gilbert)

Dan,Morrison vs Mercer ending creepy similar to Cooney vs Norton

Dan Rafael
  (1:45 PM)

Morrison getting knocked out by Mercer was absolutely vicious. They are similar knockouts.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, the Mercer/Morrison KO was good, but give me Tua/Ruiz any day of the week

Dan Rafael
  (1:46 PM)

Also great, but not the massive amount of punches landing flush like the others.

miguel (los angeles)

how badly i want mayweather-pacquaio? I would drive through arizona without any paper work if it gets made.

Camacho (Yucaipa)

I can't wait for the next episode of Fight Camp 360! I really want to see Abraham training and Froch talking trash

Dan Rafael
  (1:47 PM)

Yup, that will be great. I am loving Fight Camp 360, and not just because I was in the opening scenes of the series.

Chris (Bay Area)

Do you think that the Ward-Dirrell fight will be in Oakland? If not where do you see it taking place?

Dan Rafael
  (1:48 PM)

Maybe Detroit or in Michigan somewhere.

Duff (Boston, MA)

Another website posted a Q&A with Omar Sheika and in the intro described him as the 2003 and 2004 ESPN fighter of the year. Did I miss something?

Dan Rafael
  (1:48 PM)

Definitely. Omar was in some great fights on ESPN but he was never fighter of the year or in THE fight of the year.

Julio (DFW)

has the Forch/Abraham venue been set?

Dan Rafael
  (1:49 PM)

Not yet.

Jeremy (NY)

Omar Sheika - Scott Pemberton may have been FNF fight of the year..maybe that's what they meant.

Dan Rafael
  (1:51 PM)

Probably. That was a great fight. I seem to recall being in Atlantic City for an HBO fight and standing at the bar at Caesars with Jim Lampley and few guys watching the fight and Lampley doing blow by blow for us since the volume was not turned up. That was pretty cool.

RS3 (Stamford CT)

Hey Dan, any further hints from Calzaghe about a comeback?

Dan Rafael
  (1:51 PM)

No hints. He says he is not coming back.

Gutterdandy (nyc)

I don't know if there's ever been a fighter who talked as much smack as Haye did re the Klitschkos only to run away when he had to back up his talk.

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 PM)

It's one thing to not fight somebody, but to talk so much smack and then run for cover makes you look scared to death.

Matt (Columbus)

D$, if May vs Pac gets made, HBO should include Miguel from LA driving through Arizona w/o papers in the 24/7 broadcast.

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 PM)

LOL!

Robb (Lawrence, MA)

rumor has it you're planning on vacating your unified super duper regular intergalactic undisputed silver interim diamond champion emeritus in recess twice removed, in favor of the ultra unified super duper regular intergalactic undisputed silver interim diamond champion emeritus in recess thrice removed

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 PM)

It is under consideration.

Dave L (NS, RI)

as much as I hate the Klitschkos and think they are boring to watch, they seem unbeatable in a weak heavyweight division. Anyone out there that could beat them??

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 PM)

No.

Andrew (Nashville)

I bet Haye sleeps with a nightlight. Just saying.

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 PM)

Dude that is freakin' hilarious.

Tom (West Windsor, NJ)

Cooney still works out and trains some guys and trust me, he still has that left hook. He's a great guy.

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 PM)

Gerry is a great guy. I have a chance to meet him a few times and interview him. Really good guy.

tk (sf, calif)

you're too candid and opinionated (which is a good thing) to not have your own podcast. get on it, espn.

Dan Rafael
  (1:55 PM)

We'll see.

Michael (Oakland)

Who would be more petrafied? Haye across the ring from either K' Bro, or Sid Brumack working Isreal Vazquez' corner?

Chris J (Humble, Tex)

Have you talked to Dirrell recently and just want to know your thoughts if he will have any lasting effects from the huge punch he took on the ground?

Dan Rafael
  (1:57 PM)

To Michael in Oakland: Pay the man, Shirley. To answer about Dirrell -- I spoke with him at length when I was in Florida in April for the Berto-Quintana fight. Dirrell had come down because Berto is a good friend of his from the amateurs. Anyway, Dirrell said he was fine and he looked good. I am sure he will be OK from what happened with Abraham and he seemed just pumped about moving on in the tournament.

Rick (SpringTown)

DTM- Somthing to pass along... If you havent been to a weigh in or a press confernce for a fight yet, you need to. Its awesome to meet the fighters and even some of the writers. Even got to sneak around the Oracle Areana and into the Areana itself. Took pictures in the ring. Got to take pics of my 14 m.o Godson in the middle of it. Starting the Freak off right!

Dan Rafael
  (1:57 PM)

Exactly. If you're going to go to a fight try to take in the whole experience.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Dan, I know you mentioned earlier that there "might" be a RAD tomorrow night. It isn't listed on the Chats listings so I'm wondering if you can confirm or deny so we can plan accordingly?

Dan Rafael
  (1:58 PM)

I am planning to do one, just need to send a note to the folks that handle the links.

Matt (San Diego)

Dan, Why doesn't HBO do a 4 man 140lb tourney without Goldenboy? I would be excited to see Alexander vs Soto, and Bradley vs Judah. Thoughts?

Dan Rafael
  (2:00 PM)

A tournament is pointless without the best guys being in it.

Michael (Oakland)

If I was either K'Bro and Haye finally signed to fight I would look him dead in the eye, stone faced and say in my best Ameri-Russian accent..."I will Break You". Haye would pee himself.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, Dirrell is a good dude. I met him at the Ward/Kessler fight, he took the time for a autograph and a picture. We even chatted a bit about boxing. He is truly a good dude

Dan Rafael
  (2:01 PM)

When he was at the weigh in for Berto-Quintana he took a ton of pictures with fans and signed a ton of autographs. Seemed really appreciative of the attention.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Dan, With your massive Boxing fight collection I was wondering are there any fights you don't have yet that you really, really want and what are they?

Dan Rafael
  (2:03 PM)

There are a few. I am trying to complete my HBO telecast collection so there are several broadcasts from the 80s and 70s I am missing, etc... There are some old Leonard, Hearns, Duran and Hagler fights I'd still like to add in top quality. That sort of thing.

Paul B (NY, NY)

Continuing with the conversation of good dudes in the sport, when I was in Vegas I ran into Berto seberal times and he seemes like a truly good guy. Anything to add to that?

Dan Rafael
  (2:03 PM)

Agree with what you said.

Dave L (NS, RI)

Dan how come your still not on Twitter??

Dan Rafael
  (2:04 PM)

I know, I know. I should be. I have thought about it. My wife says I should be. If I do it, will you and the Freaks follow me?

Gary Burton (Beaverton, OR)

Dan, how would you like a Harry Greb career collection on DVD?

Dan Rafael
  (2:04 PM)

Would love it. Doesn't exist as far as anyone knows.

Shon (Bellingham,Wa.)

I have a signed bottle of urine from JMM....Wanna make an offer?

Dan Rafael
  (2:05 PM)

Ummm, no.

Neal (Joliet, IL)

Danimal, I would much rather see Pacquaio-Margarito than Pacquaio-Cotto 2. Even though Antonio is a cheater, at least its a fresh matchup and something we haven't seen. I don't want to see Cotto get maimed again

Dan Rafael
  (2:07 PM)

I'm not all that interested in either.

Robert the MATH Genius (Greater Philly / Southern NJ)

"X" divided by the number of Ricky Hattons equals "X"

Dan Rafael
  (2:07 PM)

One?

G$ (Bay Area)

What do you make of the return of Solo Boxeo so far? Doesnt seem like the same show anymore

Dan Rafael
  (2:08 PM)

Gotta be honest -- the quality of fights has been very weak frankly. A big disappointment.

Arthur Mercante Jr (Bronx NY)

Dan...dont you even think of stopping this chat early...suck it up! Keep typing!

Gary Burton (Beaverton, OR)

Dan, besides Andre Berto, Miguel Cotto or Paul Williams, are there any real, credible opponents for Shane Mosley to fight or fights for him that not only make dollars, but sense?

Dan Rafael
  (2:09 PM)

Those are probably the main guys, but I very much dount we will see a Mosley rematch. I can see the Berto fight happening at the end of the year.

Braindamaged2too (the Asylum)

Big D., Just gotta ask: who or what is more slimy and slippery and killing off more things? The sanctioning bodies or BP in the Gulf of Mexico?

Dan Rafael
  (2:09 PM)

Draw.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, will you have a piece in the Ward/Green program like the one that was in the Ward/Kessler?

Dan Rafael
  (2:10 PM)

No, because I don't think there is a Ward-Green program, at least not one produced by SP Boxing, which is who I did the work for for Ward-Kessler.

Paul B (NY, NY)

Dan. Could we set up a boxing skill building symposium with your wife to help us pronounce some of the Asian (specifically Thai) boxer names. Some of them are brutal to work out. Poonsawat's last name? Come on now!

Dan Rafael
  (2:11 PM)

I'll put my wife in charge. She's good with the names.

NYPD Blue (NYC)

Catch-line for the Harrison--Haye fight: "A-FORCE VS A-HOLE!"

Dan Rafael
  (2:11 PM)

WOW. Ouch.

Joe (PA)

Better Pound for Pound all time Marvelous Marvin Hagler or Roy Jones Jr?

Dan Rafael
  (2:12 PM)

Jones.

Ty (Walnut, CA)

Is that Haye-Harrison fight for real (official)?

Dan Rafael
  (2:14 PM)

It's being seriously discussed for November.

Kris (Scottsdale, Arizona)

Better pound for pound root beer....Barqs....Mugg.....IBC?

Dan Rafael
  (2:15 PM)

IBC.

RS3 (Stamford CT)

Better Pound for Pound all time, Roberto Duran or Floyd Mayweather Jr?

Dan Rafael
  (2:15 PM)

Please. You trying to get banned?

JJM (Mexico)

I would rather drink my own urine than a cold Mugg rootbeer!

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 PM)

Do the Marquez urine jokes ever get old?

Steve (Minneapolis)

Do you think you could get the website admins to put up a you rank em for each weight class of current fighters? it might be interesting to see where the freaks rank fighters in each weight class.

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 PM)

Great idea. I will pass that along for sure.

NYPD Blue (NYC)

The funny thing is one of the English tabloids writes that the Klitschkos are avoiding Haye. Reality is subjective, I guess.

Dan Rafael
  (2:19 PM)

No, it's just that the Brit writers, many of whom are friends of mine, have always been homers.

Mrs. DTM (at work)

For the freak who needs some pronunciation help. Kratingdaenggym is really easy: Krah-TING-dang-jim.

Gary Burton (Beaverton, OR)

Dan, why in your divisional ratings do you only rate five fighters per division and ten in others?

Dan Rafael
  (2:20 PM)

10 are rated -- just look at the "other contenders" line under the top 5. They are ranked, just don't have a capsule.

Brock (illinois)

Have you ever been asked to be on the Ring Rating's voting panel?

Dan Rafael
  (2:22 PM)
