Chat with Bill WIlliamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

Josh (Santa Clarita, Ca)

Bill, who do you think will be the breakout player of the year in the AFC west?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

Got to go with Jamaal Charles. I know he finished srong, but I think he is ready to have a big year from the start of the 2010 season and make himself a household NFL name.

Brian (Seattle)

Do you believe the Sporting News prediction of the Chiefs finishing at 9-7 and in second place is accurate, and what chance would you give the Chiefs of actually winning the division especially with the Chargers holdouts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

I like what the Chiefs are doing. I'm just not sure there is enough defensive help to make this a winning team. But I see improvement.

Andy (Denver) [via mobile]

The Tebow circus has taken attention away from the departure of Brandon Marshall. Who picks up the slack? Eddie Royal?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

I think Denver is hoping Royal, Gaffney, Thomas and Decker all help pick up the slack.

Mar1 (Athens, Ga)

Afternoon Bill. I check out your page daily and thank you.How can I make sure that Haynesworth doesnt end up in Oakland and mess everything up? But seriously, who would take that type of risk after he has shown his true colors?

Bill Williamson
  (2:09 PM)

As long as he is out there it is a possibility for Oakland. Still, I think Oakland should stay away from him. But it would not be a total shock if Oakland picked him up.

Steven Ramirez (Carpinteria, CA)

Chargers Restricted Free Agents Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeil are heading to hold out because of no deal for a long term deal, Should the Chargers target Cowboys WR Patrick Crayton, for more insurance?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

I think the team feels set with Josh Reed as backup insurance at receiver.

Lynn (Denver)

Thomas 75+ catches and legit shot at OROY in Denver this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

That would be a ton to expect from a receiver. I think if he has 50 catches, it would be an excellent rookie of the year.

Lynn (Denver)

Does San Diego fall out of the contenders for the Super Bowl conversation with their two big name players: Jackson and McNeill?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

I think if these guys sit out for the first 10 games, the team could possibly survive. But if for some reason, they sit out the year, yes, it would affect San Diego's Super Bowl dreams.

Steve (Fallbrook, Ca)

Any news on Merriman?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

No, it's been quiet. Everyone is focusing on McNeill and Jackson. I think Merriman will be there for camp. He needs to have a big year to make big money in 2011.

Broseph (San Diego, CA)

Do you think that Buster Davis can take over Legadu and Reed and become the #2 WR along with Floyd considering the Jackson situation?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

If Davis can stay healthy. He will have a chance to make a big contribution if Jackson stays out for awhile.

Lynn (Denver)

Heyward Bey? Break through season...or confirmed bust?

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

Way too early to say on both accounts.

Air Harrison (Escanaba, MI)

Hey Bill, I was wondering how you figure Denver's defensive line will rotate in this upcoming season. With three nice additions in Green, Bannin, and Williams I am interested to see how everyone gets playing time.

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

Those three players will be the starters and then everything will work from there. If they are play well, they will get serious snaps.

Terrell kissimmee fl [via mobile]

Do you think Vince Young will be suspened...

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

Too early to tell, but the Raiders are interested. They open the season at the Tians.

Chris Dewey (Colorado Springs, CO)

How is Knowshon progressing so far this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

I don't get too exicted about June progress, but the Broncos beleive he is making strides. The key for Moreno is to stay fresh late in the season, which was a problem for him last season as a rookie.

James (Lynchburg, VA)

Do you see Ryan Mathews or Ladainian Tomlinson having a better 2010-2011 season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

Mathews, without a doubt.

Jeff (Escanaba, Michigan)

As of now, Thomas Howard is not a starter, will this change by the start of the season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

The Raiders want Trevor Scott to take over, so if Howard's the guy, Oakland will be disappointed

Jacob (Missouri)

Do you think Matt Cassel is the answer to the chiefs at QB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

I think so. I think the Chiefs have given him enough help to make Cassel an efective quarterback.

Josh (Santa Clarita, Ca)

Bill, what are the chances the Offensive and Defensive ROY come from the AFC West?

Corey (D.C.)

How well do you think Malcom Floyd can fill V-Jack's shoes should Jackson miss actual games?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

I think Ryan Mathews and Rolando McClain both have a real chance.

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

To answer the Malcom Floyd question: He has some nice skills. He can stretch the field, but he is still learning the NFL game. I'm not sure he could be a legitimate No. 1 receiver quite yet. I think Gates would assume the top receiving role from the tight end posiiton.

JC (Atlanta)

Bill, any word on Tony Moeaki in KC? Word is he is looking good.

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

I'm looking forward to seeing him in training camp. I know the Chiefs are very exicted about him. I see him playing as a rookie.

Lynn (Denver)

Alphonso Smith finally show up or does he become irrelevant as Nate Jones or Perrish Cox takes over in the Nickel package

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

If so, that's a huge disaster since Denver gave up its first-round pick in 2010 for him. Truthfully, I get the feeling Denver might be more exicted about Cox than Smith. Cox is a fifth-round pick this year.

Jason (MD)

Any Seymour contract news?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

No, it's been slow. But I expect it to resolve itself. Seymour isn't going anywhere.

scott (springfield, MO)

will croyle start for the chiefs if he has a better camp than cassel

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

No, I don't think so. The Chiefs are commited to Cassel this year.

James (Los Angeles)

Do you think the Raiders can get to 8-8?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

Campbell plays great, O-line improves, receivers don't drop balls and the defense stops the run.

stephan (sac town)

is it possible that eric weddle would get benched for darrell stuckey

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

No way. Weddle is a big part of that defense. Stuckey could, though, play opposite Weddle.

Tom Cable (Oakland)

how many wins i need to keep job

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

7 or 8.

Matt (New York)

I think Dexter McCluster is going to be the best rookie in the AFC West this season. If you didn't see it, his shoes actually blew off his feet in OTA's the other day. Thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

I'm really looking forward to see what he can do. I epxect big, fun things from him.

Michael (IL)

Bill,There as been alot of talk about how Tebow and Demaryius Thomas are doing at the minicamps but how about Eric Decker...how has he looked ?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

Decker is still coming back from a foot injury. The team hopes he'll be at full go by the regular season.

James (Lynchburg, VA)

Without Jackson and Mcneil, do you see the Chargers winning the division?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

It won't be easy, but if they stay healthy, otherwise, I think the Chargers will have enough to win the division.

Dude (MN)

Bill if the Broncos dress two QBs does that mean that Quinn goes to the practice squad? They want to keep him to be Tebows backup don't they?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Quinn is not eligible for the practice squad. All three will be kept on the 53-man roster, but it remains to be seen what Josh McDaniels does on the game-day 45-man roster. He said last week he is leaning toward using two QBs. So it will be Orton and Quinn or Tebow if that's the case. I don't see Tebow not dressing. Tebow drafted himm to use him, even if it's just in some special packages early in the season.

Josh (Santa Clarita, CA)

Are the Raiders looking to pick up Kevin Mawae? Any other AFC West teams interested?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

Denver was connected to him before the draft, but that won't happen. There hasn't been much interest in Mawae league-wide.

Josh (Santa Clarita, CA)

Of the two offensive tackles, which one is more likely to start for the Raiders: Veldheer or Campbell?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

Both have a chance -- Veldheer at tackle and Campbell at guard.

Josh (Kansas City, MO)

Hi, Bill. I read your page often. Since we're getting closer to training camp, do you expect the Chiefs to have Eric Berry signed before training camp begins? Also whats your odd's on the Chiefs pulling out a 2010 home opener win? Thanx

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Berry is a top five pick, so contract talks could take a little time, but Berry seems like the type of guy who wants to get on the field and start working right away.

JaCorey (Stockton)

DHB makes game wining catch in superbowl

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

OK.

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

OK.

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

OK.

Terry (MCB Quantico)

are there any chances Oakland looks to SD for a trade on any of their hold outs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Sure, but there's no chance San Diego listens.

Greg (Maryland)

How significant is the addition of DT John Henderson to the Oakland Raiders' D-Line? Do you think he will be a starter on game 1?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

I don't think it matters if Henderson starts or not. He's a rotation guy. He should help against the run for 25-35 plays a game.

James (Lynchburg, VA)

Will Merriman have a big year?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

I expect him to be healthy and improved, yes.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour, folks. Hey, next week we are doing our chat at 4 p.m. ET Monday. I'll remind you Monday morning. Talk to you then.
