Let's get it going for the Thursday Chat. Here is what I'm thinking about: The Mets look like they are for real right now, but do they have enough pitching? Do you believe in RA Dickey for the long haul? I'll tell you why I don't know if ruining the future to get Cliff Lee makes senses and more.On the Yankee side, are you concerned about A-Rod's lack of homers? How great is Mo? It is ridiculous, isn't it? And what the Yankees are thinking trade wise. I got some info, on that. Let's get it going.
who do you see the yankees getting for help in the bullpen? Cause I don't think park or gaudin is the answer even though gaudin did pretty good in relief of A.J. Cause an ERA of 7 for the pen is not good.
Yes,David, I guess I will start with my info. First off, I never say never with any Yankee trade, but here is what they are thinking right now. They are not going to add a bat. Where would you add one? DH? They like rotating it and Posada there. So I think they will add a reliever and maybe some bench depth. That is what I see. If the price is right on Cliff Lee, they could pull the trigger.
R.A. Dickey an all-star?
I don't think so, but he is close, which is an unbelievable story considering where his career has gone from being a highly sought after draft pick to bouncing around to being potentially the guy who puts the Mets in the 2010 playoffs. Amazin'.
Do the Mets have a realistic shot in trading for and retaining Cliff Lee?
I think they have a shot, because you can always make a deal. The Mets have enough to get Lee, if they want. But what are they willing to give up?Would trade Mejia in a deal for Lee, I wouldn't, because it takes us to the second part of your question. Lee will not sign in season with anyone except maybe the Yanks. He is going to free agency so it is worth to give up a future star just for this year, interesting question, no doubt.
If A-Rod is going to need regualar days at DH, why don't the Yankees call up Brandon Laird? The kid is killing AA pitching, and can offer alot more at the dish than Ramiro Pena.
Girardi likes Pena a lot, but he hasn't hit at all this seeason. He does give them a lot versatility, but at some point he probably has to hit.I like Pena becdause he has to bring his ID everywhere he goes.
No more beating around the bush, do the Mets make the postseason?
Shaya,Nice name. I don't think they do. They have been the best team in baseball for a month so they are beginning to make me a believer. At worst, they are going to make this season fun for their fans.In the end, I don't think they ahve enough pitching and I think the prices will be too high to get the high end starter they need.
Would you trade Mejia to get Oswalt or Haren ... they have more control time under their contracts?
The Mets have so messed up Mejia this year it is ridiculous. They may have cost him and their organization millions if he never becomes anything. He should sue them. (I'm kidding, but I feel strongly). That said, I wouldn't trade him. This guy maybe could be a No. 1 or 2 starter and the Mets could have him for six years at some point. You win long-term by developing your own guys (especially pitching) and then augment it with big time acquisitions.
Why with such good talent are the pirates still not winning? when and how do they return to the elite of the NL central
The Pirates could win one day, but that day seems far off. Beautiful stadium, though.
What New York Yankees & New York Mets Players will be Traded By Saturday July 31?
Chris:Thanks for the question. I don't see the Yankees or Mets will actively look to get rid of anyone. I mean they would deal John Maine in a second, but no one would want him. Both teams are more likely to look to add than subtract.
The big thing with the Mets is Wright and Reyes, they are the ones that really set up the whole thing for the Mets.It will be interesting if and when Beltran returns, if he can be an elite player again. To me, that is a major question mark. What type of Carlos Beltran are you getting?
Are the Mets really thinking about platooning Frenchy and Pagan when Beltran comes back? Pagan has been AMAZING, but Frenchy seems to save runs every night b/c every team is scared to run on him. I can remember 10 times that a guy from 2nd did not even attempt to go home on a single b/c it was hit to Frenchy.
Well, Jerry Manuel wants to play Pagan so I could see him rotating through the outfield. Maybe 2 days in center a week, because Beltran is likely not going to be able to play six or seven games a week. Then you could put him in right for two or three games a week and one game in left and all of sudden Pagan is playing five times a seek.If Beltran comes back and Francoeur still hits, Jason Bay is going to hear it that he should be the one to sit. He won't because he has too much money coming in.
OK, I got to get to the ballpark today. Mets going for the sweep against the Galarraga and Tigers. Thanks for all the questions. We'll chat again next week. Have a good weekend.
