July 1, 2:00 PM ET
Mavs with Jeff 'Skin' Wade

  (2:01 PM)

Hello everybody - Let's chop up Free Agency, shall we?

Brad (Dallas)

What are your thoughts on the rumored possibility of a Mavs trade for Al Jefferson?

  (2:07 PM)

I think Al Jefferson is on the radar but he's a last ditch effort for the Mavs if everything else strikes out. He's a talent, but they realize it'll be compromising to their defense. But dude is young and can fill it up on the block like nobody they've had since Mark Aguire. But again, he's on down the priority list no matter what you hear coming out of Minny.

John Cook (Fort Worth)

Apparently Dirk's not coming straight to Dallas, he's making a stop in New York. I'm worried, should I be?

  (2:11 PM)

I don't know if worried is the word. As long as he's not signed there could be some degree of concern, but I believe he intends to be here and the team wants him to be here and when it's all said and done he'll be here at the max 4 year/$96 million number. Should be noted that while he's in NY the Nets and Knicks people are in Akron. I think the idea that he didn't want to deal with a big greeting party at the airport has some validity to it.

Damon (San Diego)

How many free agents do you think are worthy "max contract" players? I don't understand teams offering $20M of their $56M salary cap space to a player who's not even the best player in the Association at his position (Johnson, Stoudemire, Boozer). My sense is that some teams are going to overpay out of desperation. I just hope it's not the Mavericks by way of sign-and-trade.

  (2:14 PM)

I think Dirk, LeBron, Bosh and D Wade are max guys (Dirk's deal is different than those other guys because of age). I think that Joe Johnson, Amare Stoudemire and Rudy Gay are the most likely candidates to get overpaid, though I think they're all really strong players. I love Johnson as a fit for the Mavs, but I would be apprehensive to give Johnson more than 4 years and $60 million.

John (Dallas)

The Mavs have to think hard before signing Joe Johnson (if he agrees). Do you think they are looking to sign someone just to sign someone? Because you could stick Roddy B or Caron at SG and I think it would be adequate. What do you think?

  (2:17 PM)

I think the Mavs are looking to get better but won't do anything "stupid" just to make a move.As for Roddy in the starting line-up and the move of Butler to the 3, I actually touted that in article I wrote back in March here at ESPN Dallas. I think Marion and Terry off the bench together makes way more sense than Roddy and JET together. I think Butler is a much better defender at the 3 than the 2 as well.

Mike-C (Brownsville,Tx)

If the Mavs don't resign Haywood, what are the chances of trading for gortat from orlando?

  (2:21 PM)

If you believe the rumor mill Gortat is available. Especially if the Magic do pursue Brad Miller on the cheap. I just don't see how the Magic can continue to shell out more than $13 million (salary and lux tax) for a guy used as sparingly as Gortat. I think the package of Gortat and Pietrus is intriguing, though probably won't excite Mav fans. Is there a potential 3-way there involving Utah's Carlos Boozer going to Orlando and Dampier's non-guaranteed contract and dough and young players/picks going to Utah???? Hmmm, I wonder....

Leo Ortega (Dallas)

What chance do the Mavs have of landing a Top Free Agent?

  (2:22 PM)

If a top FA is one of the big 5 or 6 not named Dirk, then I'd say pretty small

lebron james (AKRON)

im stayin with the cavs!!!!!!!!

  (2:23 PM)

That's what I've been sayin' all along, King. Tell Maverick he owes me a few chips from the last time we were in Vegas

cody (dallas)

How about this lineup? PG KiddSG BeauboisSF MarionPF DirkC Al JeffersonSwitch Kidd and Beaubois on Defense! Go get Drew Gooden to back up Dirk. Try your best to keep Haywood. Entice him with being the starting center and move Jefferson and Dirk up, sliding Marion to bench for start of game. This would give you best starting 5 rebounding team ever. Kidd, Beabouis, Dirk, Jefferson, Haywood. You know Minn. is trying to trade Jefferson and have their ears open. We cant move Marion so offer them Damp, Butler, and another. (Minn. doesnt need another Roddy type guard!) If Haywood says no, then sign him and include him in the trade package for Jefferson. (might need to make it 3 way trade?) If we don't have a backup center then might have to sign an old one on the cheap (Damp, B. Miller) or find a real young one somewhere.

  (2:24 PM)

Looks like your boy Gooden is inking with the Bucks. When he came back with the Clips he was acting like a politician on the campaign trail wanting to come back. He's a good dude - glad he got his

Brad (Dallas)

Man you and Ben got ripped off by Fox 4 this morning. That song and your intro are golden. Now that LeBron won't come to Dallas because of Fox, what are the chances the big Joe Johnson offering by Atlanta is a sign and trade ?

  (2:25 PM)

Depends on what kind of song Ben can crank out for him. Lots of Joe Johnson questions coming through in the chat. I think he's a great fit, but I don't think he'll end up here and i do think he'll get overpaid.

Phillip (Dallas)

Stop with all the "who might the Mavs get" talk, please tell us who the Mavs "will" get. The big 3 or 4 aren't comming to Dallas.

  (2:27 PM)

I think the Mavs will make a move but it will be a guy who's already signed and on someone else's roster right now. The dust has to settle on the big names, but I think they'll improve the team. I threw out that Orlando scenario, but it'll be something in that realm. not sexy, but I think realistic.

sward (dallas)

if i were the mavs i would take my chances on michael Redd. whhy not, might get him for a bargin. Would finally be nice to get a dead eye shooter on the weak side to pair with Dirk. and No, Jet doesn't count as that guy. Could this happen?

  (2:30 PM)

Michael Redd is nowhere near the player he once was. That'd be a huge letdown for Mav fans. I'd rather chase Redick and I'm not interested really in chasing Redick either.

chris (dallas )

you had posted a trade with no for collision, what the chances of that happening

  (2:31 PM)

Slim to begin with, but after the draft day deal in which they shed Mo Peete, below zero

Brian (Dallas)

What would be your pitch to "Flash", assuming the trio doesn't unite in South Beach, if you had a chance. I think he'd fit better here than the diva everybody wants. Agree?

  (2:34 PM)

Wouldn't waste my time. I think he's as big of a sure shot to stay put as anybody. I guess worst case scenario if he demands to come to Dallas or he'll go to Chicago just to be petty, then Miami might take some sort of Butler/Roddy/Damp concoction. Just don't see it however

Sam (Dallas)

How about getting Carmelo? Is that possible

  (2:35 PM)

There's nothing Dallas could offer Denver to trade him to them. Trading Melo should net you an absolute baller. The Mavs have one dude in that category and they're currently trying to resign him.

Chad (Richardson)

Shelly Smith just ran through the teams that had meetings with Lebron each day. Mavs did not make the cut for a meeting with Lebron. Are we not even going to get a shot at talking to him before he makes a decision?

  (2:37 PM)

They will, they're just waiting for the teams with cap room to make their visits and then they'll jump into the fray. No worries - there's a lot of time before July 8 to try and pull off the impossible.

Sedrick (NRH)

Skin what about the idea of adding Amare?

  (2:38 PM)

I think he's a bad fit here as long as you have Dirk. Same goes for Boozer, David Lee and to some extent Bosh, though I'd get him if I could.

Jack (Dallas)

Why are the Mavs not even talking about Stoudemire or Boozer in sign and trade. Big man is the big problem for this team. Jefferson may not cut it for D

  (2:39 PM)

Your question reminded me to include Jefferson in that list of 4's in my previous answer.

Kyle (Orlando)

Shaq coming to town?

  (2:42 PM)

I could see the Mavs using their $2 million bi-annual exception on him (I think they have that this year) if they can't bring back Haywood and/or Damp. Nothing more.

Kyle (Detrout)

Are the Mavs considering trading Shawn Marion or Caron Butler in part of their efforts to try to acquire Joe Johnson of LBJ?

  (2:46 PM)

I think Butler has tremendous trade value because he's productive and only has one year left on his deal. I think Marion is really hard to trade unless you're getting an equally burdensome contract back in return.

Followeezy (Dallas)

How confident are you that Haywood resigns? The early signings (Darko and Gooden) would suggest that the mavs may be out of his price range.

  (2:48 PM)

Say brother, nice tan. I think Haywood is going to come down to his market. My best guess is that they don't want to pay him $10 million a year. If that's where he ends up then I think they'll try and get involved and make it a S&T so at the very least they can get the hefty trade exception.

Everett (Dallas)

Would a team featuring Lebron, D Wade, & Bosh instantly become the most hated team in the league? Would that team win championships in your opinion regardless of who is around them?

  (2:48 PM)

yes and yes...I hate 'em just thinking about it

Phillip (Dallas)

Hey Skin what's the lastest on where Cuban is? LA & why there?

  (2:50 PM)

He was shooting an episode of Entourage in LA. He stayed out there because Turtle hangs with Arn Tellem

Mike (Dallas, Texas)

Hey Skin, since the Grizzlies drafted Xavier Henry, does that affect the availability of Gay/Mayo? Personally I would love to see Mayo in a Maverick uniform(as would anyone)

  (2:52 PM)

I think Gay is a real possibility to move. Anyone see his tweet last night about looking forward to seeing where he's going to go to let his career blossom? They're crazy if they move the greatness of Mayo...

Parker (Nacogdoches)

Amare would be a direct compliment to Dirk though. Dirk more of the jump shooting finesse guy. Amare being the athletic rebounding, more of a center type guy. Together they would be dangerous, if Tim Duncan and David Robinson could play together then these two could, and they were more alike than any other duo. Also they won a championship.

  (2:54 PM)

Duncan and The Admiral are so far superior to Dirk and Amar'e defensively it's not even funny. I love you, I think, but I don't know what else to say about that.

  (2:55 PM)

I think the Force is strong with you, holmes

pissydan (preston center)

chadfordinsiderESPN sources: Gay on verge of verbal agreement on 5year $80 million deal to stay with Memphis Grizzlies. Link forthcomingjust throwing it out there.

  (2:56 PM)

That surprises me, but I do think they should keep him. He's only 23. How 'bout the Grizz stepping up financially? If this is true...

  (2:57 PM)

And that's going to do it for me folks. Sorry I didn't even sniff 20% of the questions. I'm a very slow typer and not particularly bright.Check out the Ben and Skin Show every day from 9-12 on 103.3 FM ESPN
