Chat with Ohm Youngmisuk

Ohm
  (12:00 PM)

Hey everybody. Sorry for the time change from 1 to noon... let's get this thing started... only a 12 hours away from LeBron stakes! Let's talk football and basketball and even tennis if you want with my man Fed going down.

Chris (NY)

Which NYG rookie do u see contributing the most? My guess is Joseph

Ohm
  (12:01 PM)

Hey Chris... Yeah, I've been saying for a while from what I have heard and the little we have seen in camps in offseason that Linval Joseph is my guess to have the biggest impact of all the rookies. He's strong, agile and talented. Probably could have been a first-rounder had he stayed in school. Giants have depth inside but I suspect Joseph will sneak in snaps.

The Duke (The Dirty Jersey)

O-Dawg! any truth to the rumor that the Giants are going to make Lebron and offer to play MLB, and to sweeten the deal make Wade an offer to be our return man?

Ohm
  (12:02 PM)

The DUKE! Wud up G? LeBron would have made a fantastic OLB or safety. Forget wide receiver as some had said. I think he'd be a cracking safety! I could see D-Wade as a nice third-down back or corner. I can't wait for this next week!!!!!

Paul (Binghamton, NY)

No No Notorious! After Chad Jones' sad car accident do you see the giants bringing in another safety even though it is still pretty crowded at the position? or did michael johnson just remake the team based on this?

Ohm
  (12:05 PM)

My man P. Wud up. Good question. The Giants wanted mad depth at safety based on last year and how Kenny Phillips is doing and if he will be ready. Wouldn't surprise me. But they got Michael Greco on the camp roster as well and Seth Williams. I think Michael Johnson benefits the most. I would probably wait to see how Phillips is doing at the start of camp.

ron (rome, new york)

How are giants going to fill the roster spots for Boothe, Jones, and Hixon. None were key starters, (except hixon as return man), but all were key depth players at their respective positions.

Ohm
  (12:07 PM)

Ron, another great question. Those three spots certainly help out the non-drafted rookies and free agents for sure who have been with this team since rookie camp. With Hixon, the Giants can still see what shakes down around the league and if other returners are released like how they tried to sign Chris Davis, who failed his physical. As for Jones, I think they could go after another safety but I think they will look to add at another position.

Henry (New York)

Hey Ohm,What?s Good?i've heard a lot recently of Perry Fewell implementing a 3 safety set and was wondering if you could clear up some of my confusion. First, would this set be used on an every-down basis, or more a solely a third and long set? I assume we would use two linebacker's and two corner's and keep our front four, but i've also been told we could use it with a nickel package or a drop a D-lineman. Also, do you know if our corners would be playing man or a form of cover-2 zone underneath the three safeties. I assume Deon would play inside of Rolle and a healthy Phillips as a sort of quasi MLB in replace of our weak MLB core. Finally, how many of these opportunistic, multi-D looks should be expect from Fewell next season?

Ohm
  (12:11 PM)

Henry... it's only the end of June! And you want to know all of Perry Fewell's multiple looks! Love it. LOL. It's way too early to know what Fewell is going to do. He told us at the end of veterans camp that he has been trying different things to see what his players are capable of doing and how versatile guys are. That is why we saw some four-defensive end fronts. I didn't see the three-safety set you are talking about but that doesn't mean it didn't happen since I was trying to watch so much and keep track of other things. But with the Jones accident, I find it hard to see that happening. Phillips has to come back healthy for a scenario like that to be used on passing downs. As for the corners, I think it will be a mix, with some zone and man to man.

Sean (Washington DC)

Transplanted NYer here and I was just wondering is there anything going on in Knicksland today? lol

Ohm
  (12:13 PM)

Wud up Sean... how's my hometown? Excited about the Bullets raiding the rosters of all teams going after LeBron? I believe the latest is the Knicks are not going to meet with Amare on Day 1 as had been thought. Sounds like the plan is still to meet with Joe Johnson and then go to LeBron with a commitment from Joe Johnson. My man Chris Broussard says Knicks will likely try to sell LeBron with Joe Johnson and then say that they will have some more money come off next season when they can go after another big name to add to the mix.

Sean G (Las Vegas)

With the running game dipping it's numbers dramatically last season, all of the offense was on Eli's shoulders. He put up great numbers but as a whole, it was obvious that the team wasn't as good as in years past. The running game keeps the D fresh and off the field and keeps opposing D's honest. Do you expect the vaunted Giant's running game to make it's return this season?

Ohm
  (12:14 PM)

Sean G, I don't know if I expect as much as I think it has to return. The offensive line has to return back to its old form. And I know the line is motivated. And Jacobs and Bradshaw are motivated well. I think it will be better than last year. Just can't see the running game having another season like that if it is healthy.

gregg (englewood nj)

How many games are you expecting Brandon Jacobs to play?

Ohm
  (12:16 PM)

G, I am going to say 13-14. I love Jacobs and how hard he runs and how he punishes the secondary and linebackers when he gets to the next level. But that same style leads to him taking way too many hits. I think Bradshaw - given if he is healthy - will get more carries than in years past and maybe that will help Brandon stay fresh and healthy.

Mike E. (Goldens Bridge, NY)

In what priority are the Jets going to take care of their own when the season ends? Revis obviously seems like #1 priority, but who of Harris, Mangold, Brick, Ellis, Cotchery, Edwards, Holmes is most likely to stay or go?

Ohm
  (12:18 PM)

Mike, that's a tough question to answer because of the way the Jets usually handle their contract situations and plus I cover the Giants. But I'll try to answer it anyways since I used to to spend some time with the Jets. My guess is you have to take care of Mangold after Revis. Then Harris and Brick. Ellis, in my opinion, is probably on the backburner. Cotchery is somebody I can see them taking care of on a smaller scale later in the season or into next. Braylon all depends on how he plays this season. He has to come up big and show he's as good as his potential. Holmes, same thing. Got to see how he does this season and how that works out.

Mike (Danbury, CT)

My man Ohm! Only 12 more hours left to the start of Free Agency! So Im trying to find silver linings in scenarios where the Knicks dont get Lebron and instead go for a tandem like Joe Johnson and Amare. While this is a scenario I would hate because those 2 would lead us to 2nd round playoff exits the next 5 years, what are the chances that if we get a fallback tandem like them (as opposed to Lebron and Bosh) that next year when Curry's contract expires, we would have the money to get Carmelo?

Ohm
  (12:21 PM)

Wud up Mikey? I don't like Joe Johnson and Amare either. I mean, they didn't win with D'Antoni in Phoenix and that was with Steve Nash!!!! How are they supposed to win here and get past the first round with the Knicks???? Now, could they do those two and then go after Tony Parker? Yes. But Parker isn't Nash. Different type of point guard to me. They could go those two and then use that Curry money to go after another big name. I definitely see that happening. But I'm not a fan of pairing Stoudemire and JJ up. To me, those two just don't cut it for me. You have to pair one of those two up with a big-time superstar and pairing those two together... not cutting it for me.

Terry (Albany, NY)

Am I the only one worried about the running game? Is Brown ready to return to be the heralded rookie that he was before he got injured last year? Hows Jacobs looking and more importantly hows the OFFENSIVE LINE that did not play up to par looking?

Ohm
  (12:23 PM)

T, nope. You are not the only one. I think a lot of Giants fans are. Last year was ugly. I know there are a lot of Giants fans hyped about Eli's season last year and they want to see him throw for 4,000 yards and put up big numbers. But you know that might not necessarily be a good thing if he passes that much because that means the running game is not getting on track. Jacobs has looked good but it was just OTAs, you know? Same thing for the offensive line. Hard to tell how anything is after OTA and veteran camp. But they are healthy. And Seubert is going to have to battle for his job because the coaches and GM will give Beatty a shot to start at tackle and move Diehl to guard.

Paul (Binghamton, NY)

OHMy Smalls, go on the record with your predictions for who the knicks sign in free agency. Do It!

Ohm
  (12:26 PM)

P, Big Poppa says it's going to be plan b or plan c. I want to see LeBron come to the Garden. But I can see the Nets having a better shot at bringing him here than the Knicks. I want to see him come here to the area. And I have been saying this for years but don't sleep on Jay-Z. With the new Russian owner, the Nets could make a big recruiting pitch to LeBron. LeBron wants to go global. Jay-Z could convince him that the Russian owner is the way to go, they got Brooklyn in a few years, bring a title to NY and BK and get another star to come to NJ to play with Devin and Brook and Favors... not looking so good for Knicks, especially if they come after LBJ saying, we got Joe Johnson and then we can go after Tony Parker or another star next season. Other factor is Dolan. Will LeBron like Dolan vs the Russian owner? My money is on the Russian owner winning that battle.

The Duke (The Dirty Jersey)

How does Rocky look? I havent heard a lot about him

Ohm
  (12:27 PM)

Duke, Bernard right? We haven't seen too much of him. He's been rotated in with the crowded group of DTs that they have. He's healthy and good to go from what I know. But the starters are Cofield and Canty and Joseph should get some snaps and I think Alford will factor in too when he gets healthy.

Vinnie (Columbus)

Hi Ohm, with C Jones accident and K Phillips still being a question mark what is the Big Blue safety situation as far as depth is concerned?

Ohm
  (12:29 PM)

Vinnie, I think right now you got Rolle, Grant and hopefully Phillips. Then it's Michael Johnson and they got Greco and Seth Williams on the roster for camp as well. I can see them keeping Greco or Williams for some depth or see what transpires around the league and who gets cut later this summer.

jetfan82 (PA)

Long time......Russell for the jets...reall? and how do you feel about LT's superbowl picks?

Ohm
  (12:30 PM)

Wud up! I didn't see LT's picks. I am guessing it's the Jets. LOL. I am sure the Jets just reached out to see where JaMarcus is. What really should be the message here is that the Jets don't seem to be high on Kellen Clemens at all.

Mike (Boston,MA)

What up Ohm? What should we expect from the specials this year? Losing Hixon hurts big time as he was always someone who could break off for a huge kickoff return. Are the Giants serious about Aaron Ross becoming our primary return man or are they still looking to acquire somebody? How has Matt Dodge been showing some promise thus far?

Ohm
  (12:32 PM)

Mike, it's going to be interesting for sure. The Giants have mentioned Aaron Ross, for sure. Reese even said how Ross returned in college. I think he will have an eye on what goes on around the league and whois out there for sure. My guess is it's Manningham or Sinorice Moss. Dodge has shown enough to allow the Giants to feel good enough about cutting Bond, the Australian Rules football punter. Doesn't mean they won't bring in another punter but when you draft a punter in the seventh round, I think Dodge is the guy.

Ryan (Germantown, MD)

What's up Ohm? Are the Giants really concerned about the field turf? If so, what could they do about it ?(Real grass maybe?)

Ohm
  (12:34 PM)

Ryan, I wouldn't say they are majorly concerned about it. But the players didn't like how it felt that first practice. I think most of them know, or hope, it will be broken in by the time they play. But Antrel Rolle was not happy at all with the turf and was concerned about it being slippery. I think the Giants are going to work to break it in and smooth it out but I do not see grass.

jetfan82 (PA)

Your a child of the 80s seen A-team yet....what ya think?

Ohm
  (12:36 PM)

I haven't see A-Team yet. Want to but that sounds like a Blu-Ray for me. I want to see Get Him To The Greek first. Also want to see Sandler's movie, Grown Ups. Kinda been a slow summer. I saw Iron Man 2, entertaininng, not as good as Iron Man 1. And I saw Clash of the Titans, which was... not good.

John (Pittsburgh,PA)

Hey Ohm, do you think that Ramses Barden can live up to the hype of being the next Burress? And we all know how great the Giants secondary can be this year but do you see the front seven, which is usually our focal point, dominating this season or flopping like they did last year?

Ohm
  (12:37 PM)

Ahh yes, John wins the prize for asking our first Ramses question. LOL. I don't think Ramses can live up to that hype of being the next Plaxico this season. It's going to take time. But if you remember, Plax had an impact shortly after his rookie season. Plax is more athletic than Ramses. But Ramses has hands and has the height and length. He just needs to show the consistency in practice. I see the front seven doing much better this season and getting to the QB. I wouldn't call the secondary "great" though.

Shaya (NYC)

No more beating around the bush, who are the Knicks starting 5 for the 2010-2011 season?

Ohm
  (12:39 PM)

Shaya, good lawd! That is an impossible question to answer. Even Donny Walsh doesn't know that. We have to see who they sign and then what they do with David Lee, does he go in a sign-and-trade and who do the Knicks take back? Do they try a trade for Tony Parker? My guess when it comes to free agency? I can see Joe Johnson. I can see a Rudy Gay perhaps. I don't see LeBron, unfortunately, as of now. And really? That is all that matters.

Donny Walsh (NYC)

I need your help! Who do you think would be the best package of free agents I should sign to make my club title contenders?

Ohm
  (12:40 PM)

Mr. Walsh. I want LeBron and Bosh. Or Wade and Bosh. Anything but Joe Johnson and Stoudemire. But I would certainly take Joe Johnson and Amare over something like Joe Johnson and Rudy Gay and then a trade for Tony Parker.

alan (brooklyn)

ohm, was the receiving corps production (and eli's) a product of being behind in so many games last season or can we expect to see the same type of production out of the receiving game with a much better run game which would make them a multi dimensional offense? Also i feel like hakeem nicks could blow up and have a monster season, one that would put him ahead of smith in terms of yardage (not catches), and put him in terms of the league's top 25 receivers. I know harvin got all the acolade but if you look at the numbers of the rookies wideouts from last year in terms of number of starts (and position flanker vs split end) i think nicks was better than all the others? am i just too nick happy or is he the real deal?

Ohm
  (12:46 PM)

Sorry I got booted off... back online now.

Ohm
  (12:46 PM)

Alan, I definitely think Eli's production came mostly from playing from behind. The play-calling often abandoned the run early when it wasn't working as well. And the bottom line is while Eli and the receivers looked good and promising, the wins weren't there. I do think Nicks is a definite break-out candidate for sure. I can see him being the more explosive receiver and playmaker than Smitty, who will be solid and the go-to-guy when Eli needs that big first down. But Nicks has to be healthy and his toe surgery has slowed him down during OTAs and veterans camp. Nicks says he will be good to go in training camp and he plans to work out with Eli during the offseason as well.

Jetfan82 (PA)

Tell me your planning on sneaking into a spot on Hardknocks?

Ohm
  (12:47 PM)

Sorry my man. I will be with the Giants in Albany. But you will get a lot of my man Cimini! Wish I was there with the Jets this summer. Should be awesome.

rerun (su)

you can go ahead and put Andy Rautins in the knicks starting lineup. mark my words.

Ohm
  (12:48 PM)

Rerun, come on son! Good shooter. And should fit in well in D'Antoni's system. But I like him off bench.

Joey (CT)

over or under: Nicks gets 80 receptions Nicks get 7 TD's

Ohm
  (12:48 PM)

Joey, I don't see Nicks getting close to 80 receptions. Seven TDs... that's more likely.

Mike (Danbury, CT)

On point with your answers as always man, thanks for the chat today. Im feeling good about the Giants season as we're flying under the radar (Jets getting the NY headlines, NFC East teams getting more hype) and we have a few rallying cries (mainly, regain respect on D and pound the running game on O). I am not ready to predict championships, but it seems like we are an afterthought on the national landscape and I truly feel that this is recipe for a good season. I'm well aware of the question marks with this team, and yes its still the summer so lots can happen. I guess my point is just that I would rather be the team that has a good foundation but people doubt, rather than be the team that everyone thinks is a lock for the Super Bowl

Ohm
  (12:50 PM)

Mikey... thanks homey. I do think a lot of people are overlooking the Giants. And with good reason after last season. But you know that this team thrives on when it has something to prove. And they got a lot to prove. We'll soon find out. I do think that opening game against Carolina is going to be very critical. And it's going to be a war.

The Duke (The Dirty Jersey)

The Dirty Jersey Nets have Devin Harris, Brook Lopez, Derrick Favors, a young/talented bench of role players, owner with the deepest pockets in the league, Jay-Z, 8 picks in the next two drafts........why wouldnt Lebron and another free agent come here?

Ohm
  (12:55 PM)

Duke, you may get your wish for all those reasons. I think the Nets are right up there with Miami and Chicago. I am not sleeping on the Nets at all. Not at all.

John (Pittsburgh, PA)

Giants are constantly downplaying the rivalry of the D-line with regards to playing time this year..Who do you have winning out the battle for the starting spot, Osi or Mathias?

Ohm
  (12:56 PM)

John, I don't think I can answer that question right now. I really got to see more of training camp and how these guys are used. For now, just based off of the limited stuff we have seen in OTAs and vet camp, it would be Kiwanuka. But you can't make decisions just based on that limited amount of time, you know?

Ohm
  (12:56 PM)

John, I don't think I can answer that question right now. I really got to see more of training camp and how these guys are used. For now, just based off of the limited stuff we have seen in OTAs and vet camp, it would be Kiwanuka. But you can't make decisions just based on that limited amount of time, you know?

Ohm
  (12:57 PM)

Sorry for the delay. My internet signal acting up. Had to switch to the wireless card.

jetfan82 (PA)

Another Bad Creation-Iesha or New Edition-Candy Girl?.....by the way how are our white tigers doing?

Ohm
  (12:57 PM)

Love ABC, but will never go against New Edition. Love NE.

Ron Artest (Queens Bridge)

QUUUEEEENNNNNSSS BRRIIIIIDDGEEEE!!!!

Ohm
  (12:58 PM)

Ron-Ron, how's the psychiatrist doing?

chris (jacksonville)

Ohm Do you think Vince Carter was as big a bust as we do down here???? What in the world can the magic do to give Howard a real chance????

Ohm
  (1:00 PM)

Chris, you guys view Vince as a bust already? Well, he didn't have the greatest showing in the playoffs, for sure. I love Vince. He is truly one of the nicest professional athletes you will meet, especially someone who is as big as he is. But the knock on Vince has been that he doesn't win the big games. Vince has all the talent in the world, for sure. I think the Magic need more than Vince though. The Magic need to keep adding some more pieces and Howard needs to get better inside. He disappeared too much at times against the Celtics in my mind.

Joey (Ct)

How come teams have to wait until July 8th to sign on the dotted line? Wouldn't teams get worried that the player will change their mind by July 8th?

Ohm
  (1:01 PM)

Contracts need to be approved by the league and it takes time. Sure, guys can change their mind but that usually doesn't happen. Once you have a verbal agreement, they usually stick to it.

Ryan (Germantown, MD)

Do you follow Hockey Ohm? Who's your team?

Ohm
  (1:01 PM)

Unfortunately Ryan, I don't get to watch or follow enough hockey. My team is my hometown Washington Caps.

Help Me (NYC)

any ideas on somethings to keep me distracted from no giants news until training camp?

Ohm
  (1:03 PM)

Dear Help Me... how about watching all the LeBron news? How could that not distract you? Tune into ESPN1050 tonight between 9-10. I will be on talking LeBron and all free agency. Otherwise, if you aren't feeling basketball, I would say you better get into World Cup or just go see as many movies as you can until Aug. 1. LOL.

andiamo (NY)

hey Ohm....changing the time of this chat just ruined my Wednesday....I don't even have any questions prepared....arg.

Ohm
  (1:03 PM)

hahahaha. Not my decision homey. Just following orders here.

Joey (NJ)

Ohm, do the Nets getting the first sitdown with the king better their chances at signing him?

Ohm
  (1:04 PM)

Joey, I wouldn't read too much into it. But I will say this... the Nets probably get first dibs because of Jay-Z. And I have been telling everybody not to underestimate their relationship. They are like brothers. And sometimes, being allowed to make that first impression is big. Because all the other teams' pitches will have to compare to the Nets.

Mike (NY)

Hey Ohm, Nets secret weapon in the LBJ sweepstakes is Brett Yormark- guys a marketing genius

Ohm
  (1:05 PM)

Mike, I know all about Brett. He is an unbelievable salesman. But got to becareful not to overdose LeBron. Trust me. Let Jay-Z and the Russian take care of the recruiting.

Jetfan82 (PA)

I heard the SA Spurs were going to make a huge splash in FA, eyeing Johnson and Boozer...any chance?

Ohm
  (1:06 PM)

I would never discount the Spurs from anything. They are perhaps the best run organization in pro basketball.

chris (jacksonville)

I'm not a big fan of Tebow but here in Jax all you see are #15 broncos jersey's. Are these people wasting their money or will he be a 10 year starter?

Ohm
  (1:07 PM)

I'm not going to hate on Tebow. Looks like a good kid. I don't know if he will be a 10-year starter. But I am sure interested in seeing how he does, that's for sure.

Hojo (Queens Bridge)

ohm my boywhy dont we ditch the run game and let eli go four wide like his older brother nd put up 40 a game

Ohm
  (1:08 PM)

Hojo from the QB. Come on G... really? I don't think that would be a good look for G-Men. They don't have the coaching staff to run that kind of offense. If you want that, go get Martz as the O-coordinator. LOL.

John (Pittsburgh, PA)

Ma Boi Ohm, do you think Ramses can really contribute this year?

Ohm
  (1:09 PM)

J, wud up? Ramses can but he has to be on top of his game in practice in camp. Got to be consistent and show a handle on the playbook and bring it every practice. Hixon opens up a spot for him too.

Mike (Danbury, CT)

So lets forget about free Agency and talk a little bit about what the Knicks have in place already. Gallinari should continue his development as a great shooter at the 4 spot. Chandler is a solid player at the 3. Toney Douglas right now is a good backup PG, but I'm optimistic that he can really surprise some people and become a starting caliber PG. I'm going to leave off talking about Rautins and Fields because I dont know much about them, other than that Rautins is a dead eye shooter and should fit in well. So that leads me to Eddy Curry. Is there any hope he can at least become a serviceable player, or is he no matter what not going to play since he doesnt fit Dantoni's system? Im not thinking he will be a difference maker, but at the least we could use 6 fouls a game from him, or is even that too much to ask??

Ohm
  (1:11 PM)

Mike, I like Gallinari. I think he can develop for sure. Chandler is a solid player, off the bench ideally. Toney Douglas showed some flashes. Rautins is a great shooter, so that is good for the system. The kid from Stanford isn't bad either. I don't have much hope for Curry. He has been around for a long time and I don't just see the light suddenly switching on. Sorry. Just keep the contract and let it expire so you can open more cap space in the future or deal it for a better player. Don't count on Curry.

Jake (VA Beach)

Ohm, Re: Field Turf. It takes time to settle down, adjust, and break in when it's brand new. I know a guy who professionally installs it. Tell Giants' fans not to worry, it's a non-issue

Ohm
  (1:12 PM)

Jake, I agree. Players didn't like how it felt the first time they practiced on it. I am sure it will settle in and be just like the old stadium. Or that's the hope.

Chioke Hassan (Baltimore,Md)

Dear OhmShould A-Rod have been Fined for stepping on the mound in Oakland?

Ohm
  (1:12 PM)

Chioke, A-God should be able to do whatever he wants to do! Including date all the celebrity blondes he wants! LOL!

Ohm
  (1:13 PM)

Alright guys, thanks for stopping by today. Tune into ESPN1050 tonight to hear your boy (me!) talk about free agency between 9-10. See you all then!
