Good afternoon everyone...let's get his partaaaayyyy started!
Why didn't Jamie Mac run the second practice? Is he that confident?
I guess so...although I'm a bit confused by the quesiton....
a 11, 20 b 17,88,56,00 c 43,09 pick the best
Oh I get it ...the first two questions are from last week...wrong chat...
Now..to this week's questions...
Mark, sending in my pre-lim lineup before work tomorrow. What are your thoughts on the 24-33-9-98? It was either Menard, Allmendinger or Hornish and I feel more comfortable with AJ at Pocono, etc.
Nick...24 will certainly be top-5 good...Bowyer could be a real sleeper and potential top-10..Kahne could be top-10 or better...the wild car is Menard...figure him for top-20 at best and let's hope he surprises us.
Mark - Thanks for all the help this season. Just 1 point out of first in my fantasy league. Need a little help this week. Knowing the similiarities between this track and California, what do you think will be the best choices, given some of the recent hot streaks?Pick 2: 24, 2, 18, 48, 11 Pick 4: 31, 29, 17, 9, 39, 56, 33 Pick 2: 43, 98, 82, 77, 83You da man! Keep up the good work!
In first group 48,11...no stinkers in that group at all though...all should be potential top-5..In the second group...31,29,33, and in close call over 9 the 39...In the last group 83 because I think Sorenson is going to be a surprise Saturday night...after that I'd go with 43 over the 77..
Who do you think will win the Dollar General 300 at Chicagoland?
I'm banking on Kyle Busch.
I need to start one of the following: 17, 9, 88. I only have a few starts left with the 17, and I'm hesitant to use him anyways since the 9 and 88 have been much hotter as of late. Also, who do you think the favorites are to win the pole? Thanks.
I like the 9 a little better than the 88 and actually like both a little better than the 17 for the reason you stated. Kyle Busch is the first name that comes to mind...have to go over the edge and look at the dark side on a qualifying lap at Chicagoland and Busch has got the guts to do it.
hey mark, are any drivers going to be using the same set-ups they may have found during the Coke 600 for this race seeing as how it was a night race and so is this one, your thoughts please.
Daniel...that's possibility but I doubt it..I was thinking about how Charlotte would compare to Chicagoland and actually analyzed it a bit for my ESPN.com preview this week..Did you know no more than three drivers the last four years have finished top-10 in both races..one year it was only two. That indicates for some reason there's not a lot of real carry over from Charlotte and quite frankly that surprised me.
hey Mark, what's the situation look like for the birth of Jimmie's child,...should we stay away from him this week?
It's going to be touch and go on that one this week..Jimmie told us a couple of weeks ago not to worry because if the baby girl was like her mother she would surely be late...lol...Jimmie's hoped all along the birth would happen in the off week and that's what he's got his fingers crossed for...We'll know more about that when everybody arrives at the track and it will be something we'll pay attention for our race day chat.
Help. I took your advise on Truex and Jamie Mac the last 2 races and fell from first place in my league. Pick 3 please 24, 48 ,2, 11, 14 and 18. I will just go back to 29 and 31 for my B drivers until the next segment
Sorry about that...if it makes you feel any better (and it probably won't) I got burned too...in the first group 14,48, and the 11...if you're nervous about the 48 and the baby go with 18 or 24...
Hey this would be a good time to give you this week's pre-race top-30 rankings...so here we go.....1.Tony Stewart2.Kevin Harvick3.Jimmie Johnson4.Denny Hamlin5.Kyle Busch6.Jeff Gordon7.Kurt Busch8.Jeff Burton9.Juan Pablo Montoya10.Clint Bowyer11.Ryan Newman12.Greg Biffle13.Kasey Kahne14.Martin Truex, Jr.15.Mark Martin16.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.17.Matt Kenseth18.David Reutimann19.Joey Logano20.Carl Edwards21.Jamie McMurray22.A.J. yo mark, what's up. Hey, need ya to do some picking for me if you can; need two from these three: 2, 24, and 48 now four from these eight: 00, 9, 17, 29, 33, 39, 47, & 88 and finally, two from these four: 43, 78, 83(Reed), and 98 thanks a lot, you da man!
48 and 2 would be my picks but again if 48 makes you nervous than go with the 24 and you won't be losing much if anything...29,33,39, and 9...other group..83 and 43.
On to the Heartland.. What is the sister track to Chicago. 48-2-24-29-31 pre-race.. Thanks Guru Love ya Beth
We've got to stop meeting like this Beth...we're the talk of the chat rooms.....lol....I think your team has some horsepower going in..The sister track to Chicago is Kansas Speedway.
Can you see Mark Martin being usable sometime in the next 8 races? Seems like they can't get it going at all.
I keep saying they will eventually get it going but it's just not happening...That's too good a team and too good of a driver to stay like this forever..but when will they break out of their slump? This week? Next week? I just don't know.
Hey Mark, youy have been spot on for me for several weeks, leave Harvick and Burton in this week? What top tier guys you have this week at Chicago?
It's hard to argue against what Harvick and Burton have been doing that's for sure...top-tier at this point 14,48, and 11..and that's for the props Doug.
QUESTION\ TO MARK GURU GARROW AT 3.25 PM GOOD WEDNESDAY GURU WHO DOES THE CHICAGOILLINIOS HAVE FOR CHICAGO SUNDAY
Well Ray Gordon the race is Saturday night and my pre-race pick is Tony "Smoke" Stewart!
Hey Guru, which of these mid level drivers has the best chance for a top 10 this weekend.....00,1,12,20,56.........Also, who is your choice for the pole Friday?....Thanks for your time
Ryan that's a tough call...Truex was top-10 two years ago so you know he can get it done at Chicagoland..but he did that in the 1 car McMurray is driving now...Logano, in case you didn't know, has scored the 12th most amount of points on the one-mile and up tracks this year..so he needs some consideration too...Reutimann is always a threat to have a top-10 kind of weekend..I think we have to wait and see what happens in practice with these guys.
Dude!! Realize it was a wreckfest at Daytona but man, did I ever take a hit. Wow. Learned one thing, as long as Burton and Harvick are available as my 'B' drivers, do not stray from the course! And I still love you!
Dudess..I feel your pain and have also seen the light that is the dynamic duo of Harvick and Burton. And yes I feel the love...
just wanted to give myself a shameless plug for being at the top of the jaski junkies group.... come get ya some guru!!! haha
Didn't your daddy ever tell you Kyle not to poke the bear...or the all knowing...all seeing...all omnipotent "Guru"?...but a grudging congrats because I think we have the biggest league and toughest one too...So do you follow any of my advice or do just the opposite?
Elliot Sadler has a new crew chief (Todd Parrott). Is he worth a shot this week, or any week thereafter in 2010?
Ryan I think that's a wait and see deal. The RPM cars are pretty good when they can get a "handle on them. For most of the year that hasn't been the case for Sadler so let's hope it turns into something good for Elliott.
My league plays 2 drivers/week and you can only use each driver once from here til the end of the season. Not including Watkins Glen, can you think of any driver that has a distinctive advantage at a particular track that I should go ahead and lock in?
I think this has been a great track in the past for Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick and Jeff Gordon..
It is MM time to shine. He has pulled off a lot of late season heroics. Do you think he picks it up, or sits it out..
I'm just taking a wait and see attitude on Mark...hoping for the best and expecting not so good like lately.
THANKS FOR YOU COMMENTS; PICK 1; 48 OR 2, PICK 2; 29, 9, 17, OR 39; PICK 1 43 OR 83.
48...29,39...practially a pick'em between 43 and 83..but did rank 43 one spot better than 83.
ill be out of town this weekend so i wont be able to read your chat. im winning my league so i need a safe team to pick for this weekend. im thinking 48,24,2,29,31 ???? thanks guru
That's a nice safe team..but you have to be prepared to switch 48 if he leaves for baby duty...if you drop the 48..I'd go with the 14.
RE YOUR TOP 30; I THINK THAT THE 99 TEAM IS SET TO TURN THINGS AROUND BIG TIME. I BET YA A SUBWAY SANDWICH WE SEE A TOP 5 FROM THEM THIS WEEKEND.
You're on Karl...I'll put my order in now..that's how confident I am...foot long BMT...extra American cheese...lettuce, tomato, and mustard...do not toast it...and thanks I am a little bit hungry...lol..
oh...on wheat bread..
i follow your advice a lot guru... wouldn't be where im at without your help. thanks!
Wow...thanks for the props...and have a great day...the 20 bucks will go in the mail tomorrow...lol......
Mark, When is Martin gonna pull his head out of his behind and start running like he did last year? Im in a "one and done"league and havent used him yet. I would like to of course, but he hasnt shown any signs of winning a race. i have till the chase starts. Do u think he will turn it around?
Jamie, it's really hard to say...I keep thinking any day..any week now and it's just not happening..both the 5 and 88 are out of the same shop and neither is setting the world on fire speed-wise but Junior's averaging a 7.5 finish the last four races and Martin is way worse...hard to say..Chicagoland could the start or the continuation..just don't know..but leaning towards the latter.
Wow mark, things have slowed down these last ten-15 minutes. Maybe some of your regular posters lost some digits over the weekend? (Hope not though). Or u having computer glitches again?
I'm just taking the questions as they come in...
How much can you rely on practice speeds for chicago to make picks and which session would you rely most on ?
Just checked schedule...I might look at the Friday morning one pretty close because the temperatures then will better match night time race conditions...the final practice is in the middle of the afternoon when it is really going to be hot and no where close temperature wise to race conditions..So my guess is that teams will do their race set-up in the morning practice...and trying qualifying stuff in the final practice.
Is Chicago an impound race?
No it is not...and make sure Tony's Boy gets the info okay?
Tony has great stats on the next 3 tracks coming up. I can only use him 3 more times this season. Should I use him on the next 3 races or save a start for later in the season ? if so which track ?
Terry I like him a bunch this weekend...I think this would be a good place to use him...Indy should be good too..maybe then save the last pick for a little later in the year....just a thought..
Well I guess that's going to do it for today...have a great week everyone and we'll be online with the Chicagoland race day chat at 4:00 eastern on Saturday afteroon...so until then may the force be with you...as always sad to say "The Guru has left the building!"....and P.S. to you know who...real men fish with dynamite...lol..
Mark, why isnt chevy using the camaro with the new nationwide cars?
oops..last one in under the wire...I don't know..but I sure wish they would.
