Welcome to the last WSOP chat of the summer! I hope everyone has enjoyed these and send in your questions now, I'll get started in a second.
I'm confused. Is JRB still in, or is "he gone"?
He's out! Bellande was the first casualty of the day running Q-10 into A-Q
Is the room noticably more tense today?
Unbelievably...even the fans are quieter
Out in 72nd: Habib Hanes. Out in 71st: Richard Morgan
Hi Andrew,I just wanted to compliment you on your coverage of the WSOP. You've really done a great job and it's mind boggling how much information you've been able to convey, as quickly as you have and in so many different formats (blogs, chats, tweets, podcasts, video, etc.). How have you done it all? Any particular challenges you hope to overcome next year? Also, just curious. After the 2010 WSOP ends, what's next up for you (besides some much needed R&R)?Thanks!David (aka BoogaChai)
Thanks David. Appreciate the good thoughts. I think the biggest challenge was keeping the podcast up to the level I had it over the last few years. By doing all the video shoots, I really missed my opportunity to talk to more players and get even more stories out there....as well as bringing in a co-host to really spice up the show. That's probably my biggest priority for next year. After the Series, it's back to work in Bristol! Inside Deal is weekly, lots going on in terms of N9 and WSOP coverage; it never ends, which is great.
Is there live updates posted on ESPN.com?
Twitter is the best spot for live updates from me: http://www.twitter.com/ESPN_Poker
Whose story is easiest to write if they make the November 9?
Mizrachi's story is by far the easiest to write, but his is rivaled with Baldwin's, Levy's, Kostritsyn's and Baker's.
I know its not WSOP related but how did Ivey finish in the Bellagio Cup? is it over?
Ivey finished third. Moritz Kranish took down the tournament by beating Boosted J heads-up.
How many players are left? how many women?
69 players left, no women. Breeze Zuckerman went out as the last woman in 121st.
I know this is probably getting a bit ahead of myself...but if Grinder were to actually win the ME would this go down as the single greatest individual WSOP performance ever? To win the players and the main with such a massive field seems incomprehensible...
No argument from me. I think if he makes the final table of the main he gets that award. To beat out the best of the best in the 50K and then do this in the main...he clearly would deserve that recognition.
What is the age demographic of the players left? Seems like mostly young players left from the names I'm hearing. Of course, that's just a small selection of everyone still left.
I'd say at this point average is early 30s.
FYI-A Top-2 finish by the Grinder in the Main Event would make him the winningest tournament poker player of all-time. Pretty amazing stuff...
Great stat. Wow.
Are you going to get CoverItLive status for the November Nine, like Jason Sobel is doing for the British Open?
I was actually going to do it for tomorrow, but opted out. I really would need one other person to help me cover everything to get CIL done in addition to all the other stuff.
David Benyamine updates?
He's still here!
Josh Brikis update??
He's a shorty with 1.1 million
Now that the WSOP has nearly 60 tourneys, why not have a tourney at the end for the bracelet winners (and if done before November) the November 9?
I bet it's something on the radar of the WSOP staff. Pretty much a no-brainer at this point, right?
What is your prediction for how long it will take today to get down to 27?
6 hrs. I'm hoping I'm out of here before the scheduled dinner break.
You could have gotten JonV (Vounger) to help with CIL.
Could've asked a lot of people (but JonV is a good choice)
Its a good thing Frank Kassela cashed in the Main Event or he might of had to sweat it out for 4 months to see if the Grinder would steal the POY title away. At least Kassela can do no worst than share the title.
If Grinder ends up winning this thing and Kassela has to sweat it out for four months, I'd feel really bad...if only there was some sort of award for being the POY...that's publicly known...
How are the crouds in the Amazon room, is there noticable less or more people watching with only around 70 players left?
More crowded. A lot of friends and family, but I'm at the feature table right now and there are still plenty of seats left...the problem is that there isn't the name draw to bring them here.
Duy Le up to 11th! Are players aware of him?
Yes! People have been speaking rather highly of his game so far, but they've said that he's been a little too loose with a big stack as well...
Apparently, they custom the award to the player who wins. Last year, Lisandro got 3 Main Event buyins.
Exactly! Public knowledge of the award would be great. I didn't know Lisandro got those buy-ins until about two weeks ago.
Over/Under 6pm (Pacific) to get down to 27?
over. I'll take the under on 7:30
Kevin (Syracuse)Apparently, they custom the award to the player who wins. Last year, Lisandro got 3 Main Event buyins.Kevmath sighting?
He's a chat stalker
Do you pronounce Duy like Day? If so, Duy Le plays every day.
Eric Baldwin flying under the radar quite nicely huh?
He's said it time and time again. Trust me, the cameras have been on him since his first table on Day 1. You'll be getting a lot of Baldy on TV this summer.
Didn't we know that Negreanu got the truck back in '04 for the POY? Things change??
Yes, but that was a while ago when Toyota was sponsoring the WSOP. He also sold the track...
You should write an article comparing men's fascination with both poker and wrestling: both have odd characters and attract guys that are not very social (for the most part). Agreed?
I'm not sure who would read that, but it's absolutely true. Maybe I'll assign it to Wise...
Best place you ate during this years WSOP?
Barely left the Rio. Before the main started I ate at Mesa Grill which was just awesome. Love that place.
I haven't even made it to in and out burger yet. Disappointing!
Who are on the featured tables today?
Tony Dunst, John Racener, Duy Lee are two of the guys sitting in front of me, but the secondary table is much better with Kostritsyn, Costner and a bunch of others
will this be a two hour season finale chat?
No. I gotta edit a column, write a blog and post some video! 20 more mins.
The same would go with Magic: The Gathering. Wise could write that article.
He tried with this morning's piece. again.
I saw Grinder had a pretty sucsellful SCOOP run b4 the series started. Is that where this big run started? Did he take anything down in the months before that or was that where he snapped the quiet streak he was in the last few years?
The SCOOP seemed to be the place he started as you mentioned. I'll try to find out what he changed in his game that brought him back...gotta be something, right?
Johnny Chan's double cooler exit was disappointing. Had he made the N9 would that have been a bigger story than Ivey last year?
Hard to argue Ivey vs. Chan, but I think Johnny would've been on the circuit, on the talk shows, he's johnny chan! And he would do the media, unlike Ivey.
What payout are the current players guranteed at this point?
Just lost one...Marcel Cole
At this point players earn 114K
Do the players at the feature tables wearing logos get paid each day? Seems like in the early going it would be a one shot deal (I read $8K) but now do they get a bigger payment each day since the chances they will end up on tv are that much greater? The Grinder could get $40K or so if he was paid for each of the last three days plus today and tomorrow...
They get paid based on TV appearances and deals early on are based per-day while later in the series it becomes a rest of the tournament contract. Grinder, now wearing FT, will have it on the rest of the main.
You going to take a few days off once we're down to nine and grind it out at the tables in Vegas? I'm sure JRB will be donating some money...
We tape Inside Deal Sunday morning and I'm on a plane at 2 p.m.
do you know why chan only played the main event and toc?
He told me that he has been playing the cash games instead.
So what do you think the chances are we get somebody #goodforpoker in the November 9? I'm thinking 50-50 at best right now.
Lots of #goodforpoker options right now.
What did you think of the breakdown of JRB's action? 50% Stakehorse, 2% someone else, swapped 5%, and gets to keep 43%.
Not sure if he really had 43% of himself, but its possible...
Over/Under 16 straight hours of sleep for you when you get back home?
Under. I land at midnight, will probably have slept the entire plane ride, then it'll be 9 p.m., blah blah blah. I'll hang out at home though, will be nice to not have to pay $1 for a tiny bottle of water.
Been reading these for a few days and see that "#goodforpoker" thing a lot...what does this mean/why is it written this way?
Apparently, although I didn't really know it until this year, my tag line is that things are good for poker. Meaning that the results of certain tournaments/etc, will create a positive reaction in the overall community. So, on Twitter, I often use #goodforpoker when mentioning stuff like that.
You guys gonna give some ESPN.com coverage love to the WSOP Circuit events this year? I'm excited about the new developments! Council Bluffs here I come!
We will definitely do more with the circuit this year than we had in the past. I'll kick things off next week with a blog on what exactly the changes are and that sort of stuff.
Which player would you say is the Darvin Moon of this year as of right now? Inexperienced, but has a ton of chips.
Too early to tell. There are still a good number of players that I just don't know well enough yet.
Grinder chipping up today? How about Baldwin?
Grinder just lost 2M, Baldwin was up to 3, now back down to 2.
How is Johnny Lodden doing?
Up to 3.8. Really has been chipping up easily today.
Is it easy to get into the big cash games if you have the money or do they just let the regulars sit in those?
Anyone who has the cash can sit down at the table.
Last 2 questions of the Series...
I have at least four months to figure out the answer to that question.
I seem to be constantly reminding myself that David Benyamine is still in the Main Event. For someone with a high profile in the poker world you would think he would get more publicity for getting this far?
It's hard to get a lot of exposure if you're always one of the short stacks in the field. It's amazing he's still in...the story isn't finalized yet, but if he manages to make it through, he needs to write a book on short stack play in the main event.
Can I borrow ten bucks?
Thanks for the questions for the last six weeks everyone. Appreciate it and speak to everyone in the near future.
