Chat with Jon Anik

Jon Anik
  (1:07 PM)

Sorry I'm late! Let's vent...

Sean (Detroit)

Does Fedor losing make it less likely or more likely that he'll wind up in the UFC?

Jon Anik
  (1:08 PM)

Hard to say. I think it actually makes it more likely. Now, Fedor has far less to lose. He no longer has the 'perfect' record to preserve. Even though Dana White appears to be less interested, I still think he would sign Fedor in a millisecond were he to be approached by Emelianenko/M-1.

Brian (NY)

Better ruthless boss: George Steinbrenner or Dana White?

Jon Anik
  (1:08 PM)

There is definitely a comparison to be drawn. Steinbrenner is more ruthless. Dana's softer side is softer than George's soft side.

Brian F. (San Diego, CA)

Will ESPN ever broadcast live MMA events similar to HD Net? I think it could do just as well as boxing nights on the network such as Friday Night Fights

Jon Anik
  (1:09 PM)

I hope so. But I'm the wrong guy to ask. Having a mixed martial arts news and information show like MMA Live is certainly a good starting point.

Jason (T-Town)

Y so late today?

Jon Anik
  (1:10 PM)

Sorry dude. Tomorrow is shaping up as a hugely hectic day, and I had to take care of a few things. Now, you guys have my undivided attention.

Jon Anik
  (1:10 PM)

***Reminder*** MMA Live is on ESPN2 Friday night at 11PM PT/Sat. 2 AM ET. Rashad Evans and Stephan Bonnar join me. And Jon Jones makes his Bristol debut. A lot of UFC light heavyweights in the building tomorrow.

Trevor (Missouri)

Is your boy Florian going to be able to fend off Maynard's takedowns?

Jon Anik
  (1:12 PM)

That is certainly a major focus in training. Kenny is the more technical striker, and hopefully he can keep the fight standing up. But Florian's wrestling is so much better than it was, say, last August at UFC 101. Hopefully, that improvement will be on full display next month in Boston.

Mike C. (Portland, Or.)

Hey Jon. Can you believe Mark Hunt is scheduled to make his UFC debut in September? Do you think he'll struggle making 265? And does he have any shot of still being relevant in MMA today?

Jon Anik
  (1:12 PM)

Pretty interesting story there. Hard to envision him having much success or being relevant. But he's probably better than Chris Tuchscherer, no?

George (Tampa, FL)

Hey whats up Jon? I've been thinking lately about the Anderson Silva vs. Sonnen fight. I really think Sonnen has got a shot at this, what do you think? That last fight for Silva drove me crazy because he showboated the whole fight basically.

Jon Anik
  (1:14 PM)

Chael Sonnen definitely has a chance, as does any UFC fighter. I just think perhaps Sonnen is underestimating Silva's ability to thwart takedowns and get up once he has been taken down. He's also given Silva so much extra motivation with his pre-fight commentary. I think Anderson outclasses Sonnen on the feet and gets the early finish. The longer it goes, the better it is for Chael.

Mike (Arizona)

What is the possibility of getting Florian in on one of these chats?

Jon Anik
  (1:15 PM)

He isn't here on Wednesdays. But perhaps we will do a special Thursday chat in early September when he returns.

angelo (texas)

hows it going jon?? what do you think of the mir vs big nog rematch?

Jon Anik
  (1:16 PM)

I think Frank Mir is thrilled he doesn't have to face Junior Dos Santos or rematch Shane Carwin. Nogueira deserves another crack at Mir, especially if you believe he was far below 100% when they fought at UFC 92. I think Mir is at a crossroads right now. Important fight for both parties, and it's a worthwhile main event.

Mustard (Toronto)

Should i lose any sleep over rumours of GSP retiring?I guess it would allow him to concentrate on making the Olympic team.

Jon Anik
  (1:17 PM)

I was up all night. Nah, I wouldn't worry too much. St. Pierre is a fighter at heart and breaking away from the sport you love is always easier said than done. Kenny Florian used to tell me he would be retired by the time he was 35. Now, there is no way that happens.

John (St. Petersburg)

Isn't it a little hypocritical of Cowherd to always talk about being a fan of MMA, but him never ordering a PPV before? Had he even watched cards at bars?

Jon Anik
  (1:19 PM)

Colin loves ratings, and it is impossible to argue with MMA/UFC ratings. So, in that realm, Colin has always supported Mixed martial arts because he knows people are watching. But when you work in sports, there is just so much to keep track of, it's difficult to make time for everything. That may sound like a cop out, but my MLB knowledge has gone downhill precipitously since I began covering MMA on a more full-time basis. There are only so many hours in a week. And I don't even have kids.

Dan S. (Waukesha, WI)

Dream MMA job. Play by Play for the UFC?

Jon Anik
  (1:20 PM)

I would say that is at the top of the list. But that job is occupied and I think Goldberg is outstanding. Would love another opportunity to do play-by-play. Season 1 of Bellator was about as much fun as I've ever had in broadcasting.

Erik (Maine)

Early pick, Serra vs. Lytle in Indy??? Hopefully it turns into a slug fest!!!!!

Jon Anik
  (1:21 PM)

Lytle. He's savvy enough to avoid Serra's submissions and is also the younger, fresher fighter.

Jarric (Kansas)

GSP stated he wouldn't be able to fight Anderson Silva for a plethora of reasons (hard to put on the weight then lose it, etc). Seems to me he's waiting for Anderson Silva to lose a step so he has a better chance of winning. In Pierre's own words he fights "safe" so this would be the way to have a "safer" fight.

Jon Anik
  (1:22 PM)

I'll buy that, in part. I just think GSP wants to bulk up to 200 or so, and then cut down to 185 before fighting Anderson Silva. And he would only make that move towards the end of his career.

Greg (Tulsa)

Does the "heat" ever make it back into the UFC??

Jon Anik
  (1:23 PM)

I doubt it, Greg. He was given a lot of second chances. Go look up unreliable in the dictionary. You'll kind Karo's mug.

GSP (Canada)

I eat nails for breakfast why would I be scared of Silva?

Jon Anik
  (1:23 PM)

It's not fear. Just trying to maximize the opportunity when it happens.

Andrew (Montgomery)

How often do you go to message boards to see what fands are talking about?

Jon Anik
  (1:24 PM)

Rarely, if at all. I've been to the Sherdog chat rooms before and wish I had more time to do that, to be honest with you. I've never even been on the Underground. I know, I gotta tighten up.

angelo (texas)

does toney believe what is coming out of his mouth or is he just talking to talk

Jon Anik
  (1:25 PM)

A lot of it is just hot air. Couture will take him down and ground-and-pound him out.

Chris (Columbus)

What's the latest and greatest on Dana signing Jake Shields?? Thought it would be a done deal by now....

Jon Anik
  (1:26 PM)

I still think there is a 99% chance it happens. Probably just ironing out some final details. Not to worry.

Rickie (Newtown, CT)

Hey Chost...everybody overlooking Matyushenko. But come on, he's got a chance against Jonny Bones Jones, doe....actually, that just looks absurd. Nevermind.

Jon Anik
  (1:27 PM)

Hahahahaha. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The fact that Jones is a bigger betting favorite against Matyushenko than Fedor was against Werdum suprises me. But I still don't think he's in any great jeopardy of losing. Excited to have Jon Jones at ESPN tomorrow.

Bob (MD)

If Toney wins will you shave your head? Oh wait....

Jon Anik
  (1:28 PM)

Hahahaha. When I was in high school, I used to shave my head with a straight razor every 4 days. Always had a little hair issue. ESPN doesn't like the bald look, so I keep a little lettuce up there.

Rosario (Dallas, TX)

Since they have setup the Condit v Hardy fight for UFC120, who will Kampmann face next?

Jon Anik
  (1:28 PM)

Not exactly sure. But the decisive win over Paulo Thiago puts Kampmann in an enviable spot.

Brian (Charlotte)

You should stay away from MMA message boards. For you own sanity.

Jon Anik
  (1:29 PM)

Thanks for the advice. In this business, there is always gonna be more criticism than praise. My skin is thickened, and not just from chicken wings.

Jason (T-Town)

Matyshenko will surprise everyone and make it all 3 rounds. He may not win but I see him lasting all 3 rounds.

Jon Anik
  (1:29 PM)

Jason is on the record.

Daniel (MN)

Noticing more finishes shown on MMA Live. UFC being more permissive / seeing potential in MMA Live show?

Jon Anik
  (1:30 PM)

We are on TV now. Before, we were just on ESPN.com and ESPNUK. Because the show is on ESPN2, we have more rights.

rob(jersey) [via mobile]

If Scott Coker can bring in Batista, why would he bring in Badr Hari to fight Overeem (if Werdum/Fedor2 is really going to happen)?

Jon Anik
  (1:31 PM)

Why would he, or why wouldn't he? I would like to see that. I just want Fedor-Werdum II to happen ASAP, b/c that Fedor-Overeem fight simply has to happen.

Chip (Springfield)

John,I read that Fedor's management team is approaching the UFC. They are wanting co-branding instead of co-promotion. Any truth to this?

Jon Anik
  (1:32 PM)

Not that I know of. The last communication I had with M-1, they were putting most of their focus on pursuing the rematch with Werdum. But as I said off the top, I think the Fedor loss can only help pave the way for a move to the UFC.

Rickie (Newtown, CT)

ESPN doesn't like the bald look? Don't tell Scott Van Pelt....kids has hopes of being an anchor some day.

Jon Anik
  (1:32 PM)

Hahaha. SVP pulls it off. Not sure I do.

Nick(Cali) [via mobile]

Will the UFC please bring back Nick Diaz! I want to see him and Leben get down. Fight of the year for sure?

Jon Anik
  (1:33 PM)

Dana White wants Nick Diaz. And whenever he becomes a free agent, you can be sure the UFC will be blowing up his phone.

Mike C. (Portland, Or.)

Are you a little surprised the UFC isn't marketing the Dos Santos-Nelson fight a bit more? Dos Santos has an entertaining style and he's unbeaten in the UFC. Nelson won one of the most-watched TUF seasons, and has fought some great heavyweights. I know it's on a stacked card, but I think this has the potential to be a real interesting scrap.

Jon Anik
  (1:34 PM)

It's huge fight. Will likely determine the next No. 1 heavyweight contender. I think you will see an uptick in promotion and hype as the fight gets closer.

rob(jersey) [via mobile]

*wouldn't he. Sorry Mr. Anik, sinus headches have the best of me today.

Jon Anik
  (1:34 PM)

You're allowed, friend.

Andrew (Montgomery)

Why is MMA still getting dissed by the kids at PTI?

Jon Anik
  (1:34 PM)

Wilbon just hates MMA. Not sure what to tell ya.

John (St. Petersburg)

Is Rampage/ Griffin II going to happen? If not who does Rampage get? Seems like he wanted to fight right away since his loss.

Jon Anik
  (1:35 PM)

When Rampage was here, his manager pulled me aside and said the only fight they want is Forrest Griffin. I doubt very much Rampage will sign on the dotted line to fight anyone else.

Brad (Bristol,CT)

Hey Jon, any early thoughts on Lesnar-Velasquez?

Jon Anik
  (1:36 PM)

Just a great fight. I think the size discrepancy will be tough for Velasquez to overcome. But Cain is truly a 5-tool mixed martial artist. And the AKA guys are absolutely convinced he will become the new champion. Highly excited for the fight, but I still think Lesnar's size will prevail.

Ken Shamrock (Lion's Den USA)

What up brotha?? Will you be flying to Australia this weekend, to see me beat down Pedro Rizzo ?? Ohh and if you see Tito, tell him I'm looking for him!!!!!

Jon Anik
  (1:36 PM)

Wasn't even aware you were fighting. Best of luck.

logan (dallas)

hey chost, glad i could make it again. I have a suite for the Strikeforce Houston card Aug 21st and a FREE TICKET FOR YOU! Can you make it?

Jon Anik
  (1:37 PM)

You are the man Logan. My best friend is getting married that weekend and, for whatever reason, he wanted me in the wedding. I appreciate the invite, nonetheless.

John (St. Petersburg)

Lesnar opened as a smaller -130, then he did against Carwin, when he was -200. Your thoughts?

Jon Anik
  (1:38 PM)

That surprised me, John. Lesnar won't be coming off a 51-week layoff this time around. Still, I wouldn't advocate a bet on this fight. I can see an outcome for either guy.

Shinya (Tokyo)

You think foot make good wedding present?

Jon Anik
  (1:38 PM)

Hahahahahahahahaha

Adrian (Texas)

What are your thoughts on the possibility of a UFC LHW Interim Champ? Should Rashad be passed over for not wanting to fight until Rua comes back?

Jon Anik
  (1:40 PM)

I feel like I'm a broken record on this topic. If a UFC champion is going to be out for more than 6-8 months, I think there should be an interim title fight. As is, the belts aren't on the line as often as they should be b/c of various scheduling issues (TUF) and injuries. All of that said, I don't blame Rashad for waiting. He is the undisputed #1 contender and a former champion, and he earned a title shot against Rua.

Hank (SD)

What does "Chost" mean?

Jon Anik
  (1:40 PM)

My twin brother Jason gave me the nickname. It stands for 'Chubby Host.' My face is a lot fatter than I am though.

John (LA)

Didn't know Florian is getting married?

Jon Anik
  (1:41 PM)

Hahahaha. Very funny. Florian is like my 5th or 6th best friend. But he does like me better than Kurt Pellegrino, despite what you may read on Twitter.

rob(jersey) [via mobile]

I know Sam Caplan is a good guy, but can you explain the latest matchup for the Lomard-ghini? I mean why even have him fight, if this is what we have to see.

Jon Anik
  (1:42 PM)

Bellator needs to figure out a better plan of attack when it comes to Hector Lombard. I think Bellator has handled their other champions well, but the roster is just not that deep at 185. We've been touting Lombard as a Top 10 middleweight in the world for over a year now in this space. He's gotta fight guys worthy of being in the cage with him.

shane (ohio)

is b j penn done with main event fighting or does he have some left in the tank

Jon Anik
  (1:43 PM)

B.J. Penn has plenty left in the tank. Still just 30 years old. It all depends on how much longer Penn wants to compete. He will try to get his belt back against Frankie Edgar on Aug. 28th. And that is the main event at UFC 118.

Kalab (NE)

If fitch beats alves does he get another crack at gsp when he beats koscheck

Jon Anik
  (1:44 PM)

A lot of ifs in there. But I do believe, if Fitch makes a statement against Alves, he will have earned another title shot. That said, Dana White is not the biggest Fitch fan in the world. And last I checked, Dana is a pretty powerful dude.

Jay (MD)

Fess up! How many ring card girls have you dated?

Jon Anik
  (1:44 PM)

Only like 7.

Jeff (Denver)

Obviously, dos Santos and Velasquez have no shot against Lesnar. So when does a Carwin-Lesnar rematch happen?

Jon Anik
  (1:46 PM)

Well, I do agree that Carwin is the guy with the best chance to beat Lesnar. But I am clearly much more intrigued to see what Dos Santos and Velasquez can do against Brock than you are. Carwin is likely just one win away from getting another crack at the title. His performance against Lesnar was so good early on that he will be rewarded for it. And I'm not sure there is a bigger moneymaker right now for the UFC than Lesnar-Carwin II.

Chris (Alhambra, Ca)

Hey Jon, do you think we will see a Melendez vs Alvarez fight this year? When?

Jon Anik
  (1:47 PM)

Nope. I think it is much ado about nothing. I doubt very much that SF would allow Melendez to compete on a Bellator show. And there is no way Alvarez would be allowed to fight under the Strikeforce banner.

Rick (Orange County, CA)

Do you think Sonnen is just running his politician mouth or do you really think he can beat down the Spider?

Jon Anik
  (1:48 PM)

I'm not picking him to win the fight. But his wrestling gives him a chance, I guess. Hoping to have Sonnen in Bristol or at least on MMA Live prior to the biggest fight of his career.

Jason (Ellicott City, MD)

Maxim cover girl Arianny would not date you.

Jon Anik
  (1:48 PM)

Fact.

Jason (T-Town)

If BJ Penn loses to Edgar, does he stay in the LW division or move up?

Jon Anik
  (1:49 PM)

Good question. I actually haven't thought about that scenario b/c I expect Penn to beat Edgar. But a second loss to Edgar would be pretty devastating, and I'm really not sure what B.. would do.

Brian (Charlotte)

I give Cain a much better chance than many of my fellow chatters do.

Jon Anik
  (1:49 PM)

You're not alone, Brian. A ton of fighters (and not just AKA guys) are picking Velasquez. Pat Miletich thinks Cain is gonna win early, and rather easily.

Jason (Ellicott City, MD)

I missed last week's chat because I was in Vegas. My apologies.

Jon Anik
  (1:50 PM)

Unacceptable. I will miss next week's chat while on vacation, so perhaps you can run it.

Jeff (OH)

I dated Arianny a few times. Trust me dude, it's overrated. All she ever wants to do is make out.

Jon Anik
  (1:50 PM)

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Brian (Cubical)

Over/Under on Sonnen being KOed - 90 seconds.

Jon Anik
  (1:50 PM)

Over.

Justin (Indianapolis)

Lytle vs Serra for UFC 119. It really has little bearing on the WW division, but it's hard to dislike this fight.

Jon Anik
  (1:51 PM)

I agree. And another example of why there is only one Joe Silva. 2/3 of the MMA Live staff thinks they could do his job. They are wrong. It's fights like this where Silva really earns his keep. Just a great matchup and very intriguing, despite very little being on the line.

Mike (Arizona)

See! Have Kenny fill in for you next week. I assuming he can type, correct? Im kidding, maybe.

Jon Anik
  (1:52 PM)

He is training and won't be doing very much media-wise until September. But I'll let him know you're in love.

Trevor (Texas)

Chost, you are not allowed to take vacations...what is the meaning of this!?

Jon Anik
  (1:53 PM)

Haha. First vacation in a long, long time. I will miss you guys, but our next chat on 7/28 will be at least two hours. You have my word.

Jason (T-Town)

Akiyama vs Bisping is a good fight the UFC made for UFC 120 but should they have had Bisping face someone who recently won?

Jon Anik
  (1:54 PM)

That's always the goal, to matchup guys who have won and guys who have lost. But I think the fight makes sense, and I don't mind Akiyama getting the opportunity.

Rick (Orange County, CA)

If Frank Mir loses to Nog do you think he'll be looking at the cut list?

Jon Anik
  (1:55 PM)

Doubtful. Mir has established enough good will in the UFC to keep his job. He's also a two-time champion who can sell a fight with the best of 'em. I still think someday we will see Lesnar-Mir III, if for no other reason than that it is billable.

JP (Columbus, OH)

Jon, looks like PacMan is lining up backup opponents in the event Floyd says no. Anyone you want to see fight the PacMan if it's not Floyd? Frankly, I'd rather see a Cotto rematch than rewarding that cheater Margarito with a huge payday.

Jon Anik
  (1:56 PM)

I would rather see Cotto get the rematch than to reward Margarito. But stylistically, I think Margarito poses more of a threat.

Trevor (Texas)

This means I'm actually going to have to do work next Wednesday...thanks, thanks a lot.

Jon Anik
  (1:56 PM)

Just gives you time to fine-tune your questions, man. Tell your boss he's welcome.

Chael Sonnen (West Linn, Or.)

How about I take over the chat next week? I don't have anything better to do other than do a little working out for a fight I have against some overrated chump next month.

Jon Anik
  (1:56 PM)

There ya go Chael. Keep those gums going.

Chris (Cleveland)

So are you going to tell us where you're going on vacation or are we going to have to guess?? Well I'll start....Compton, CA????

Jon Anik
  (1:57 PM)

I am going on a Western Carribean cruise and you're all invited. Leaves from Miami. See you all on the boat.

Jason (T-Town)

Lil Nog vs. Bader, who you got? A lot of message boards have Bader but I see Lil Nog dominating this fight and winning with an easy submission. Am I crazy?

Jon Anik
  (1:58 PM)

We all see fights the way we see them. And we are all wrong quite a bit. I like Bader in the fight. Perhaps that's because I can't get Lil Nog's last performance out of my head. Just thought he made a lot of fundamental errors against Jason Brilz and should've lost the fight.

JP (Columbus, OH)

Bring on F-Mac next week!

Jon Anik
  (1:58 PM)

Will pass that along. I miss that guy.

Mike C. (Portland, Or.)

I'd rather see Paul Williams fight either Pacquiao or Mayweather. If The Punisher was more marketable, they wouldn't have the built in money excuse to duck him.

Jon Anik
  (1:59 PM)

You are absolutely right that Williams isn't marketable. Just very softspoken. The first time I interviewed him, he was wearing shades and a Pittsburgh Pirates hat all the way down. We could barely make out what he was saying. But, even if Williams had a mouth like James Toney, Mayweather wouldn't go near him. And I wouldn't blame him.

Michael (Philly)

Don't sell your body short - it is just as chubby as your face.

Jon Anik
  (1:59 PM)

That's good stuff there. Hahaha

John (LA)

Will we see Aoki fight in the US again after that debacle against Melendez?

Jon Anik
  (2:00 PM)

At some point, absolutely. The best of the best fight in the United States. That is why Aoki said he came the first time, and that's why he will come again.

Jason (Macon, GA)

Do you get recognized in public often??

Jon Anik
  (2:00 PM)

Thankfully, not. Because I can't afford Tom Ford sandals like K-Flo and Rashad.

Jason (T-Town)

Anik, what have you done 2 lose the weight?

Jon Anik
  (2:02 PM)

What, you think I look thin or something? I've just stopped eating whatever the **** I want, whenever the **** I want. And, I do workout 5x/week as opposed to 3. HD is unforgiving.

Rickie (Newtown, CT)

You should get Jan Finney in here next week as special guest chatter; she can withstand the kind of abuse you take.

Jon Anik
  (2:02 PM)

You guys are killin' me today. In a good way.

Kyle (Vegas)

How tall are you anyway?

Jon Anik
  (2:02 PM)

5'9". And my sign is Cancer.

benji (detroit)

cant you take a laptop with you on vacation?

Jon Anik
  (2:03 PM)

Yup. But I think my female companion may want some attention.

Trevor (Texas)

P90X Chost...that's the way to go.

Jon Anik
  (2:04 PM)

Soon my friend. Gottlieb and I discussed it a few weeks ago. Not sure I have that guy's motivation.

J.R. (Tampa)

What's the percentage chance of Penn-Florian II if they both win?

Jon Anik
  (2:04 PM)

High. Maybe 75%. But, the way the fights transpire will also play a role.

Scott (Des Moines)

Seen you on Sportsnation, don't let those other analysts talk about mma they sound stuuuuupid...

Jon Anik
  (2:05 PM)

They are learning the sport and I'm thankful they are giving MMA that type of coverage. There is a lot of education that needs to happen here at ESPN. But slowly but surely, people are getting the bug that we all have. Can't bite the hand...

Michael (Philly)

If Spider beats Sonnen is he done at Middleweight?

Jon Anik
  (2:06 PM)

Possibly. Still not sure he'll ever be 'officially' done at 185. But, were he to smash Chael, his next fight would more than likely be at 205.

Kyle (Vegas)

Why don't you ever pick the winners on the final segment tapout on the live?

Jon Anik
  (2:06 PM)

I wish they let me, Kyle. Or perhaps, given my track record, maybe they are saving me some face.

Ryguy (nova)

Jon I just went on that cruise for spring break. Your gonna love it man! Watch out for Senor Frog's in the Gran Cayman Islands though

Jon Anik
  (2:06 PM)

Duly noted, Ryguy. Thanks.

John (St. Petersburg)

Any chance you going on BS Report? It needs to be done. If Bill starts writing MMA columns thats a big + for mma.

Jon Anik
  (2:07 PM)

I would love to. I've reached out to Simmons on Twitter, to no avail. Help a brother out. I just hope he knows there is now an MMA show on ESPN2!

Greg (Ellicott City)

Where does the man who was choked out by CroCop in 115 go from there?

Jon Anik
  (2:08 PM)

Pat Barry lost so much steam with that defeat. Maybe he'll face a guy like Brendan Schaub. And someone is getting hurt.

Adrian (Texas)

I have always respected and enjoyed hearing from Peter Gammons. Any chance he is an MMA fan?

Jon Anik
  (2:09 PM)

Doubtful, given the generational gap. But who knows? Maybe we'll try to entice him to go to 118 in Boston.

Andrew (Orange Park, FL)

Does Big Country having a #1 contenders match vs JDS speak more to his rise in the UFC or the lack of depth in the division?

Jon Anik
  (2:10 PM)

His rise. I actually think the heavyweight division has never been stronger. Just think, if Barry had beaten Cro Cop and Duffee had beaten Russow, we would talking about an overflow of young talent. But what is healthiest about the heavyweight division is the 3 guys at the top- Lesnar, Carwin and Velasquez. Those guys are gonna keep fighting each other and it's gonna be sweet.

Big John (LV)

Simmons had Brock on for over 30 minutes before UFC 116 - he's definitely into the fight game. I will make it my mission while you are on vacation to convince Simmons to get you on.

Jon Anik
  (2:10 PM)

Thanks, Big John.

Trevor (Texas)

Who is filling in for you on MMA Live next week? I usually DVR it and watch it via the internet at work on Friday.

Jon Anik
  (2:11 PM)

I think it'll be Jonathan Coachman. He did the only other show I missed, about a year ago.

Rickie (Newtown, CT)

Are the ESPN office in dreadful mourning over the passing of G. Steinbrenner? That William Nack tribute on the site was pretty cool.

Jon Anik
  (2:12 PM)

What a great tribute. Definitely was nice to see the way his passing was handled here. Even for a Red Sox fan, there's a huge appreciation there. He reminds me a ton of my late grandfather.

rob(jersey) [via mobile]

What will be MMALive's role @ 118, and where's after party. I'm staying in the financial district....

Jon Anik
  (2:13 PM)

As far as I know, we will be there doing pre and post-fight shows. Can't come soon enough.

Jason (Ellicott City, MD)

Why would the ESPN office be sad when they are all Red Sox fans?

Jon Anik
  (2:13 PM)

Far more Yankee fans at ESPN than Red Sox fans.

Sam (DC)

Does Roy Nelson currently weigh more or less than he did when he won TUF?

Jon Anik
  (2:13 PM)

Not sure what he had for lunch.

Jason (Ellicott City, MD)

I just head that KFlo is going on a cruise before his fight....coincidence?

Jon Anik
  (2:13 PM)

HA

Eric Witt (Indiana)

Is tito done like chuck?

Jon Anik
  (2:14 PM)

He hasn't absorbed as many brutal knockouts. But his body is failing him, and he's only got a fight or two left before his back says no more.

Marc (Malden, MA)

First Lesnar wouldn't be Couture, then he wouldn't beat Mir, then he wouldn't beat Carwin. When will people realize this guy is just a behemoth who cannot be beaten?

Perhaps if and when he beats Cain Velasquez. Velasquez really is the total package, and a Lesnar W would speak volumes.

Ken (Pittsburgh)

Chost, almost missed the chat. Glad to be here. I missed MMA Live last week, got in my car Friday morning, and immediately began texting people. MMA Live makes the world a safer place!

Thanks, Ken! Nice to hear from you, as always.

John (LA)

Simmons was more interested in talking about Brock's WWE days than MMA.

That's unfortunate. But I know Bill is interested in MMA. He gets it.

Jason (Ellicott City, MD)

What does KFlo think about the constant harassment you receive on here?

Jon Anik
  (2:16 PM)

This chat is so far off Florian's radar. I'm just glad he gave me his new cell phone #. Told you we were closer than he and that stiff Pellegrino.

Alright, folks. Must bounce. Don't forget to check out MMA Live on ESPN2, late Friday (11 PM PT, Sat. 2 AM ET). Bonnar, Rashad, and Jon Jones makes his Bristol debut. Next week, I've got a bye, so there will be no chat. Next chat is two weeks from today on 7/28. And I'll chat for at least two hours. Until then, enjoy your week, eat some wings. And please don't text and drive. -JA
