Hold on to your special golden baseballs... it's time for another hour of fantasy chattage. Second cup of coffee in hand... Who is ready to throw out the ceremonial first pitch?
Gallardo or Verlander for the rest of the season
I'm going with Verlander, though I'm not worried about Yo-Ga's recent injury too much. By the way, the ESPN second-half rankings should be out today to answer a whole bunch of these questions, as determined by the whole lot of us.
So, AJ, where do you fall in the great Aramis Ramirez debate... turning a corner or just a good 10 days?
Turning a corner, but still barely a top 200 the rest of the way.
Do you expect Derek Lee to bounce back in the 2nd half? I was offered him for Carlos Pena, and though I hate Pena's average, his power numbers are much better so I cannot decide.
I'd go with Pena here. I'm not the biggest D. Lee fan to begin with.
Posey or montero???
I like Montero a bit more. Not sure Posey will have the greatest second half, though to be fair, I didn't think he'd be this good out of the gate.
with beltran coming back soon what does this do to pagan? Does his playing time get taken away or does pagan take it away from francour
What I have heard is that Francouer will get the short end of the stick, but I don't buy it long term. I think Frenchy raises a bigger stink and also fills a role that Pagan doesn't give the Mets (with Beltran healthy).
I'm in 3rd and am looking to help my team improve down the stretch. Do you think giving up Stephen Drew for Troy Tulowitzki is a bad idea?
It all depends on how quickly Tulo comes back... but I think it is definitely an upgrade. If you can wait out what could potentially be a month of zeroes, I would do it.
WHo you got Davis or Smoak?
Smoak. But I did go out and grab Davis where I could. Just think the Mariners can afford to be more patient, so if Davis struggles out of the gate, he might not get as many at-bats later on.
How much power do you see coming from Werth and Cruz this 2nd half?
Werth is a huge question mark for me. I believe he gets traded and where he ends up will determine his fantasy value, because if he goes to a really good team, he might end up as a 4th OF type with somewhat limited at-bats. Cruz should have some pop, but I believe he barely cracks the top 100 overall when all is said and done.
How big of an upgrade is Victorino over BJ Upton?
Not enough to add other players into the deal. I do think it is an upgrade, though.
Hey AJ, worried about Ciff Lee at all? Gave up a lotof longballs in that first start with Texas
Not really - there's going to be an adjustment period, but even with the HRs, he did pitch a CG. I dropped him from my No. 1 pitcher to No. 4 after the trade.
would you rather have volquez or burnett the rest of the year?
Burnett, but it's only the unknown that keeps me away from EV. If Volquez pitches well in his first start back, he instantly jumps over Burnett, but I need to see it with my own eyes to feel comfortable about that.
Name a few 3B that you think will have huge second halves. I'm really hurting at the position and need to make some trades.
Headley and Cantu are the two guys I see with a shot at cracking the Top 100 who might not be the "usual suspects".
Juan Pierre, Raja Davis, or Borbon for speed in the 2nd half?
Mike Young or Panda the rest of the year?
Young. I do like Sandoval to have a solid second half, but not nearly as good as the lineup in Texas.
As a Morneau owner, I want to believe he'll keep up his pace, however his history shows he'll fall off in the 2nd half. Will he finish the year in the top 30, offensively?
I am not concerned with Morneau. Offensively, top 15.
Speculating saves....who are 2-3 RPs you'd look to grab and stash with the trade deadline looming?
You have to look to Storen with Capps likely moved. Chris Perez - as Wood may go somewhere... Also, don't be surprised to see JJ Putz simply get the job in Chicago.
Am I droppable in keeper leagues this year? Where do you have me ranked next year?
Certainly it is waaaaaay too early to rank next season, but since I rarely keep pitchers to begin with, not a chance I'm holding on to Peavy for 2011, regardless of his progress.
Hi I'm Rick Porcello. Should anybody care?
Didn't rank him in my 300, but came close. Jim Leyland likes him, and has gone so far as to say he won't trade him. That makes me care.
Where do rank Beckett in the 2nd half?
I have him at 217 in my 300, which is probably as a No. 4 starter.
So in a keepers league you keep all hitters over pitchers? Why?
Hitters have more overall value because they contribute to 5 categories as opposed to only 4. Now certainly there are a few names like Halladay and Lincecum that I'd likely hold on to, but pitching is far more erratci from one season to the next, especially win totals (Greinke, anyone?) and you usually have a better idea of what you are getting with the top hitters.
Better 2nd Half: Jason Bay or Jay Bruce?
Bay. Assuming Beltran is close to his usual self, that whole lineup will see increased production.
RANK: Scott Baker, Ricky Nolasco, Cole Hamels?
Nolasco, Baker, Hamels -- in that order. Although Hamels probably takes a no-hitter into the eighth inning three times.
Thoughts on Lind?
I'd put him in the Rajai Davis, Nyjer Morgan neighborhood. There's going to be some value there, but I'm not doing cartwheels because I own him.
Boy, you really don't like Hamels....
Never have and never will. When the curve is working he can be unhittable, but he's way too erratic for my tastes.
McCutchen a top 10 hitter next year?
He's darn close this year. I have him top 25.
Yes, echoing many of the sentiments... condolences to the Steinbrenner family, as well as the Sheppard family.
Who is the player you are most embarrased to own on a fantasy team? Who have you let go that you most regret?
I definitely cut ties with Big Papi too soon this season, but sometimes when you get hit with injuries, you make calls you regret. Somehow I always ended up with David Weathers year after year... glad to not have him in the mix for 2010.
Will Boesch continue his hot hitting in the second half?
I don't think he'll maintain this torrid pace. I ranked him, but thought about not putting him in the top 300.
Who do I want for the 2nd half: Ike Davis, Gabby Sanchez, or Chris Davis?
Gaby. Ike will hit some homers, but I think his batting average is too much of an albatross right now.
Markakis or Pence?
Nick for me over Captain Underpants.
What you think of Big Brother so far? Uggla or Weeks? Ride the hot hand?
Uggla, especially if the rumored trade with Colorado comes to fruition. As for BB12, HATE the whole concept of the Saboteur, and unless they reveal that there is no Saboteur and the whole thing is just to make the houseguests paranoid, I may not continue to watch.
Chris Young a top 15 OF?
Nope. Got him in the top 75, but a lot of other OF ahead of him in the discussion.
S. Drew or E. Aybar? I definitely don't feel as if I need to roster them both, but tough call on who to drop/trade...
Drew gets the nod for me, though it is not by a huge margin.
In a 14 man fantasy football draft what is the best position to pick from?
I always prefer to be in the middle of the pack so I don't have to wait 25 or so picks to make my next selection.
Which Jonathan Sanchez are we getting for the 2nd half, the April/May, or June/July?
Start him at home. Bench on the road.
Joe Mauer has been a huge disappointment so far this year. What can I expect out of him in the second half?
As you'll see in the rankings that will be coming out -- I am not all that wowed by Mr. MVP this season.
Generally I disagree with you but do value your opinion. Now what do you think about Andres Torres going forward? Fluke 1st half?
More fluke than fact. I'm not doing cartwheels over a .280 hitter at the age of 32.
If Lee is your #4 SP, who could be your top 3? He has been lights out!
Yes he has, but I do think his numbers go up a bit in Texas. I ranked Halladay, Wainwright and Ubaldo ahead of him...
Deep 5x5: D. Fowler or W. Venable?
Interestingly, I have them ranked back-to-back in my list, with Fowler one spot higher.
Who has a better second half...Floyd or Scherzer?
Ranked Floyd, didn't rank Max.
What are your thoughts on Corey Hart? I keep hearing that he is a sell high candidate but his BABIP is only about 10 points over his career average.
With Hart it is about the high HR total that people point to for the sell-high status. HRs don't enter into BABIP, so it is fairly irrelevant to the discussion.
Better peavy replacement: Kuroda, Myers, Gio, Padilla or Medlen?
I think Kuroda would be my choice of that group.
For the rest of the season: Lincecum or Josh Johnson?
Johnson for me, please. Though we are likely splitting hairs.
That's the final whistle. Thanks to all who participated int he Fantasy Q Derby. Sorry we can never get to them all, but I try to get to as many on Twitter as I can... until the next time, Be Seeing You!
