Chat with Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
  (11:03 AM)

Greetings Fight Freaks and welcome to our weekly chat. Going a little early this week since I have to go to Bristol this afternoon for FNF, so tune in. I'll be in the studio. Anyway, new notebook is posted and three blogs this week plus several news stories. Plenty to discuss! So let's get to it.

Mike (Pa)

Let's get this party started

Dan Rafael
  (11:04 AM)

WOOOOOOOOO!

Ivan (Miami)

i know Mayorga has been beaten in his last few fights although he was standing toe to toe to Mosley until the late knock out. Is Ricardo Mayorga boxing career over?

Dan Rafael
  (11:04 AM)

It's over as a meaningful chamopionship-level competitor.

Ivan (Miami)

What is the future looking like for olympic gold medalist Felix Diaz?

Dan Rafael
  (11:06 AM)

I just caught his most recent fight on a cable replay from last week in Philly. He's a very skilled boxer, but probaboy should be at junior welterweight than welter. But all kinds of skills.

Melvin (Bronx, NY) [via mobile]

Hey Dan. How do u feel about Roman Gonzales? Does the kid have a bright future in the sport???

Dan Rafael
  (11:07 AM)

Roman is one of the best guys in the tiny weight classes, but he's not very active and there are no fights that mean anything at 105. There was some talk he would fight on Top Rank Live on Aug. 7 in a nontitle bout in the junior fly or fly division, but that didn't come off. So I am not sure what's next for him.

perry of Stamford CT [via mobile]

what's your stand on the issues of pacquiao maywether fight? is mayweather avoiding to fight pacquiao?

Dan Rafael
  (11:07 AM)

At this point, with the hurdles apparently clear, Mayweather is balking at a fall fight. Why exactly I do not know.

Mitch (Oakland, CA)

This chat is not happening. Whoever said it is happening is lying. I never typed any of this.

Dan Rafael
  (11:07 AM)

Brilliant. Pay the man, Shirley.

Jeff (Dearborn, MI)

Did you get a chance to watch the Golden Boy card yesterday? The Andrade vs Valadez was about as exciting a 4 rounds one could ask for.

Dan Rafael
  (11:09 AM)

I did watch it last night. It was as good a four-rounder as you'll see. Great action. I think it was the third round that was just rididulous. Too bad the main event stunk out loud and was a wicked mismatch when the fight was signed. Russell is a fine prospect. Pastrana is a totally shot guy who is wayyyy past his best days and way over his best weight.

kevin (milwaukee)

any truth in the rumor Mayweather and Cotto are in talks?

Dan Rafael
  (11:12 AM)

LOL. No, not that I am aware of. That would highly doubtful given that Cotto is promoted by Arum.

bill (pgh)

just me, or do Pavlik's people sound less then happy with Top Rank?

Dan Rafael
  (11:12 AM)

Less than happy is about right.

Kevin (Greensboro)

Dan, thanks for the regular blogs. Despite a slow boxing season, your regular features have kept me at least interested in the behind-the-scenes aspect of the sport.

Dan Rafael
  (11:12 AM)

Thanks.

Wes (Philly)

The more I read the more I believe Ellerbe that no real negotiations took place. Who do you believe?

Dan Rafael
  (11:15 AM)

I am not 100 percent sure. But I will say this -- I have spoken to too many people in and around this fight who say there were indeed talks going on between Haymon and Greenburg and Greenburg and Arum. And although Arum can lie and tell half-truths as well as anyone, I just cannot believe he would carry on to the extent he has about this and insisting over and over there were talks. I know people at HBO who swear there were discussions going on. Arum swears it. Schaefer at Golden Boy certainly led me to believe there were talks going on that he just would not talk about. I believe there were talks going on. Maybe Leonard was not aware? That is possible. I don't think Haymon has to tell him everything he is involved in. I just don't know at this point.

Greg (Los Angeles)

Dan it looks like Zab is the odd man out at 140. Who do you think he will fight in October?

Dan Rafael
  (11:16 AM)

Zab isn't odd man out of anything. He has a name. He drew a nice crowd last week. He'll get something.

Lou (Detroit)

Dan, I agree with your blog that many big fights haven?t happened this year, but don?t you think the recession has something to do with it, and that promoter?s just don?t feel they can sell enough tickets.

Dan Rafael
  (11:16 AM)

I dont agree at all because these fights are financed mostly by television money and the money is there to make the fights.

robb (north andover, ma)

have we been good freaks, is that why we get the raf one hour early?

Dan Rafael
  (11:17 AM)

Well you get an hour early because I have a flight to Connecticut this afternoon for Friday Night Fights tonight. So while I began an hour early, I'll chat only until about 12:30ish and then I gotta finish packing my stuff and go to the airport.

Julio (Tucson, AZ)

Hey Dan?.Segura-Calderon is an excellent matchup in the Mexican-Puerto Rican rivalry?.Who would you favor at this point??

Dan Rafael
  (11:18 AM)

It is a fascinating match and an important fight in the lower weight classes. But I have to go with Calderon at this point. I know he's lost a step, but Segura is so wild and Calderon such a supreme technician I am not sure Segura will be able to land anything big enough to really hurt Calderon, who can box and box and box. Interesting fight. Segura sure does have the puncher's chance.

Edwin (Puerto Rico)

It looks like it might be Margarito vs Pacquiao, a guy who doesn't deserve the fight. What would be your reaction to such a fight taking place? I personally don't want to see two cheaters go at it.

Dan Rafael
  (11:19 AM)

Before or after I throw up?

Leonard Ellerbe (Las Vegas)

I am not aware of any dinner being owed to Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
  (11:19 AM)

Those talks never took place I guess.

Craig D. (Philly)

Dan how good of a matchup is tonights FNF main event?

Dan Rafael
  (11:20 AM)

Solid, solid fight. Shumenov is an interesting cat and his opponent is pretty solid from what I can tell, although I have never seen him fight. I am also looking forward to seeing Rico Ramos on the undercard and Shawn Estrada return to action after a long layoff because of a hand injury.

Steve (DC)

Who is winning the chicken race, Mayweather or David Haye?

Dan Rafael
  (11:20 AM)

David Haye is lapping him.

Craig D. (Philly)

My Paul Briggs bobblehead just fell over and is refusing to get up!

Dan Rafael
  (11:20 AM)

What a tank job that fight with Green was. HORRIBLE.

robb (north andover, ma)

do you now stick povetkin in with the ducks, or is not being ready a good enough reason to back out?

Dan Rafael
  (11:23 AM)

Not at all, because at least his people (Teddy Atlas) were honest about it. Teddy came clean and was honest -- he said his man was not ready yet. I respect that. It's a lot different than Ducker David blathering for two years and not taking at least three different legitimate offers. That's ducking.

Horn (Vegas)

I liking the Pacquiao/Maywether saga to the Boston Red Sox refusing to play the New York Yankees for unspecified reasons.

Joe (PA)

Does Bob Arum realize the public is not interested in Pacquiao-Maragarito?

Dan Rafael
  (11:25 AM)

If he doesn't, he may well soon find out.

ricardo, chula vista,california [via mobile]

hey dandy dan,do you thing chavez jr vs pavlik will happen and if so who do you think wins?

Dan Rafael
  (11:26 AM)

I dont think it will happen. Bob wants to do it but most of the rest of the folks at Top Rank -- the matchmakers and other execs -- think it's a stupid fight for Chavez, which it is.

Danny (Orlando)

I wanna see a rematch between Cotto and Margarito. is this too much to ask? ofcourse without the plaster.

Dan Rafael
  (11:26 AM)

I'd much rather see that than either of them fight Pacquiao.

bill (pgh)

Povetkin had a long amatuer career and is almost 31 years old. Now Teddy certainly knows better then me but how much longer will it take the guy to be ready?

Dan Rafael
  (11:27 AM)

It's a fair point and I don't disagree. But Teddy's point is he has only been with the fighter for like two fights. He has some things he wants to teach him still.

Horn (Vegas)

Dan I want to commend you on this week's work in regard to the state of the sport.

Sam (Penn State)

Loving Soto-Antillon. I have Soto as the slight favorite but a very very interesting fight.

Dan Rafael
  (11:27 AM)

That is an excellent fight.

David (Winston-Salem)

As of right now, which made fight are you most excited about for the second half of the year? I might be alone, but I am pumped about the Dawson-Pascal.

Dan Rafael
  (11:28 AM)

I like that fight. I like the Super Six. I like Lopez-Marquez and Gamboa-Rojas.

Rui (Burbank, CA)

Anything being tossed around as a location for Ward vs. Dirrell? Oakland again?

Dan Rafael
  (11:29 AM)

From what I am told, Oakland not in the running. I know Gary Shaw would like to go to the Detroit area but no decisions have been made according to either promoter.

Marc (Malden, MA)

Do you think Adamek can be a legit title contender at heavyweight? Or will his size be too much of a disadvantage?

Dan Rafael
  (11:29 AM)

He is a legit contender at heavyweight right now.

Gil (NYC)

How about Cotto Berto at MSG??

Dan Rafael
  (11:30 AM)

As I have been saying for weeks, I LOVE Cotto-Berto and hope it happens. Arum mentioned it to me not too long ago and said he was interested in it as well. I am sure it's a fight HBO would pay a lot for and it would draw too. Just a great matchup. And it's not like Berto has a fall fight right now and if Pacquiao goes with 'Cheato that means Cotto will need an opponent as well. They could do it at 147 or 54 for either title.

Nick (Harrisburg, PA) [via mobile]

Do u think Floyd has trouble going to the bathroom w schaefer and ellerbes lips occupying so much of his butt

Dan Rafael
  (11:30 AM)

Pay the man, Shirley.

scott (Barrow, Alaska)

Gamboa Vs Rojas? who wins and why?

Dan Rafael
  (11:31 AM)

Good fight. I lean to Gamboa. Too explosive and fast.

Marc (Malden, MA)

How ironic is it that Paul Williams has been the most avoided fighter over the last 2 years, yet now he is avoiding Martinez?

Dan Rafael
  (11:31 AM)

You said it, not me.

Don (Miami)

Dan there was a lot of irregular betting on the Green-Briggs fight. Do you think the fix was in?

Dan Rafael
  (11:32 AM)

As much as it pains me to say it, and I am not a conspiracy guy, that fight looked like a fix as much as any fight I have ever seen.

Fred (NYC)

When will we know if it is Valuev or Briggs for Vitali's October fight?

Dan Rafael
  (11:33 AM)

The Klitschko team is talking to both sides and trying to make one of them. There's no hurry yet. Let it play out.

Mickey (charlotte)

Can Joel Julio still be world champion? he made a mistake against Angulo but that was a good fight.

Dan Rafael
  (11:33 AM)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child. I think with dedication, going back to welter and getting cherry picking the right titlist, he can.

Marc (Malden, MA)

But I mean do you think he has a legit chance to beat one of the Klitschkos? They're the only 2 heavyweight champs that matter.

Dan Rafael
  (11:34 AM)

Adamek and all other heavys are going to be dogs against either Klitschko.

SoHo (NYC)

Given the fact the fight will be in mexico and he has no punch, do you think Wolak has any chance in hell against Chavez? I mean I don't think Chavez is good but this is clearly a case where Chavez needs to be knocked out cold to lose.

Dan Rafael
  (11:35 AM)

I would make Wolak a huge underdog. He's not a puncher and getting a decision in Mexico against JCC Jr. is almost impossible.

joe (new jersey)

If the Green-briggs fight was indeed a fixed fight like it seemed to be, do you think theres a chance Green knew anything about it?

Dan Rafael
  (11:35 AM)

No, that would shock me.

Marc (Malden, MA)

Floyd Mayweather is a sissy. Tell him to take his skirt off and fight Pacquiao.

Dan Rafael
  (11:36 AM)

You have said what hundreds of Freaks are saying. You just put it the most point blank.

Gutterdandy (Brooklyn)

Big respect to Monte Barrett for making my trip to Atlantic City worthwhile last weekend. He showed that getting in great shape and sticking to a game plan can work wonders. Are you listening, Cris Arreola?

Dan Rafael
  (11:36 AM)

Monte put up an awesome effort and probably turned the best performance of his career when you consider everything.

Anthony (NY)

Here's my question about a Briggs fix: why would he do such a horrible acting job? You'd think he'd last a bit longer and wait for a real punch to land.

Dan Rafael
  (11:37 AM)

I agree, and I wrote that in my blog yesterday.

Nizzi (Des Moines, IA)

Dan, if Floyd is not interested in fighting Pacquiao then that is fair. So why the smear campaign against him by top rank?

Dan Rafael
  (11:38 AM)

There has been no smear campaign. In fact, Arum has been very kind in his words.

Aaron (MA)

any idea who Rigondeaux may fight next month? A live body or a tomato can?

Dan Rafael
  (11:38 AM)

No opponent yet, but it won't be anyone too tough.

Chris M. (Toronto)

Who cares who Wlad fights next. We all know it will be the same Red Hot Chili Peppers track on the way to the ring, the same Hugo Boss trunks, and the same boring jab-fest en route to a late KO. Next.

Dan Rafael
  (11:39 AM)

LOL! For the record, I love that Chili Peppers song.

marc (mi)

any chance ward vs dirrell goes to vegas?

Dan Rafael
  (11:39 AM)

I think there's a chance.

rj (Raleigh)

Sarcastic Question of the Week Contender: will you fly to London to see David Haye vs. Audley Harrison?

Dan Rafael
  (11:41 AM)

Sarcastic answer of the week: Go play in traffic.

Rick (Marina)

Will you be in Vegas next week? Im intersted to see how the ghost guererro does with Casamayor. I know Marquez is gonna ko Diaz again.

Dan Rafael
  (11:42 AM)

I will be in Vegas next week. It's a great show and I am looking forward to it.

jermaine (new jersey)

who should andre berto fight next

Dan Rafael
  (11:42 AM)

COTTO.

Brandon (Boston)

My wife can name most referees names when I turn on a fight. Freak status?

Dan Rafael
  (11:43 AM)

For you or your wife?

Cody Bible (Tucson. Az)

I'm sick of hearing about Pac and May

Dan Rafael
  (11:43 AM)

Me too.

Floyd Mayweather (Las Vegas (2012))

Well, I fought about 2 years ago so I'm really just focusing on frustrating the fans, messing with Bob Arum, dodging Taxes and waiting for a new reality show.

David (Winston-Salem)

Hey Dan, have you heard any response back from Max or HBO about forgetting to mention Zab as a part of the jr. welterweight picture. Great stuff on calling it out.

Dan Rafael
  (11:44 AM)

I did speak with him and he did a mea culpa. He said he should have mentioned him.

Brian (DC)

With JuanMa-Marquez coming up in the fall... what's your favorite Mexico-PR fight? I'd say Gomez-Pintor.

Dan Rafael
  (11:44 AM)

Sanchez-Gomez is one of them. 'Cheato-Margarito is one. There are so many.

marqus (ypsi)

dan why cotto vs berto whens cotto is at 154 an berto is at 147? would berto come up? or cotto go down?

Dan Rafael
  (11:45 AM)

That would be up for discussion, but I could see either happening.

Keith H (Seattle)

Greetings Dan, I'm living large in the 206. You're on an hour earlier, the boss in on vacation and I don 't have to "alt-tab." Life is good.

Dan Rafael
  (11:45 AM)

Who's better than you?

David (Winston-Salem)

Would HBO be able to put up enough money to sastisfy the Berto camp for the Cotto fight? We all know about the monster they created by overpaying him previously.

Dan Rafael
  (11:47 AM)

With how weak the HBO fall schedule is, Cotto-Berto would be a huge fight for the network in the fall and I think they'd find a way to pay for it. It's a can't miss fight and one that if HBO is going to break the bank for, this should be the one considering there are not a lot of other big fights to be made. I know this -- Cotto-Berto is bigger than Martinez-Williams 2.

Rob (Greenville, SC) [via mobile]

Which fight has a better chance of being made? Pac-Mayweather or Vlad-Vitali?

Dan Rafael
  (11:47 AM)

Pac-May.

Cristian (Jersey City)

How about a rematch between Clottey and Pacquiao? I mean at this point why not?

Dan Rafael
  (11:48 AM)

Everything is going to be OK. Please back away from the computer. Nobody is going to hurt you.

Pete (Brooklyn)

Dan, your notebook also points out that HBO isn't interested in Judah right now as part of the division.

Dan Rafael
  (11:49 AM)

I didn't write that HBO is NOT interested. I wrote that Kathy Duva said HBO was not going to committ to a date for Judah at this moment until some other things shake out.

Cristian (Jersey City)

IT WAS A JOKE! lmao

Dan Rafael
  (11:49 AM)

I KNOW!!!!!!!!! Relax.

Ross (Indianapolis)

Excited at the thought of a Martinez-Angulo slugfest! I would take that over Martinez-Williams II any day. Williams could face the winner if he has nothing happening at welter

Dan Rafael
  (11:50 AM)

I'll take Angulo against anyone. I love watching that guy.

Neil (Boston)

Dan, do you know of any stories of the Vlad - Vitali sparring each other at any point?

Dan Rafael
  (11:51 AM)

Yes, I have heard about them. It was vicious at one point and then stopped and never sparred again. They haven't sparred in many, many years. I once sat with Vitali in his trailer when he was doing Oceans Eleven in Vegas just the two of us, and he told me about that a little.

Sam (Penn State)

Which would you rather pay $40 to watch: Haye-Harrison or the Klitschko brothers spar for 6 rounds in full gear?

Dan Rafael
  (11:51 AM)

The brothers.

Luis (Philadelphia)

Mr. Rafael, wouldn't it be great to see a Khan vs. Bradley and Judah vs. Alexander on the same card? I know im dreaming and all but it would be great for boxing.

Dan Rafael
  (11:52 AM)

That would be awesome. Won't happen, but fun to think about.

Michael (Long Beach, CA)

I'm pretty excited about a Martinez - Angulo fight. I think Sergio schools him, but should be entertaining. Lets just make some good fights.

Dan Rafael
  (11:53 AM)

HBO still is hoping to make Martinez-Williams 2, but if it doesn't happen I think Martinez-Angulo would be a fine replacement.

Ross (Boston, Ma)

Dan last week on FNF Teddy Atlas mentioned that "a little birdie told him that Micheal Grant was out of the Adamek fight", have you heard anything about that? If he is out, I bet Lance Whittaker is his replacement

Dan Rafael
  (11:55 AM)

Teddy was incorrect. According to Main Events, the promoter of the fight, Adamek-Grant is on and not in any trouble, nor has it been.

Koichi (NYC)

Will you go to the Adamek fight in Newark? I mean it's not the best main event but the Love Child is on the undercard....

Dan Rafael
  (11:56 AM)

I will not be there. My family will be in town for a visit and that night I also have tickets to see KISS!

Joey (Rhode Island)

How about Bruce Seldon vs. Paul Briggs? The most convincing dive wins.

Dan Rafael
  (11:56 AM)

I like it.

Jason (Riverside,CA)

Dan from what you are hearing what is the reason behind Ross Greenburg's continued silence? Getting called out and not saying something is odd. Is there something being held against him if he talks like Mayweather threatening to go to Showtime? Just bad for the fans that the one person that probably has the most information won't say a word.

Dan Rafael
  (11:58 AM)

I think Ross simply wants to stay out of it, keep his head down and continue to try to make the fight. That is his right. I respect that even if I would like to hear from him on the matter. When the day comes when he wants to discuss it, believe me, he has my number.

Pete (NYC)

Am I the only person who absolutely hates the idea of letting big fights "marinate"?

Dan Rafael
  (11:59 AM)

I have no problem with that at all because that is part of the business and stoking interest. But I also don't like when it is done to excess.

Joe (PA)

Have you seen the ESPN 30 for 30 on the Tyson-Seldon fight night?

Dan Rafael
  (11:59 AM)

No, is it on yet?

Corey (Madison, IL)

Are you coming to St. Louis for the Alexander card?

Dan Rafael
  (12:00 PM)

Yes.

Nizzi (Des Moines, IA)

Dan is there any chance HBO picks up Klitschko vs. Peter?

Dan Rafael
  (12:00 PM)

Virtually none. The fight is going to wind up on ESPN3.com live with a replay (or replays) on the networks.

jcs (winnipeg, canada)

I agree with your assessment on Tua - no more comeback stories please. I don't need to hear that he is fighting Lamon Brewster at the county fair for the WBC interim diamond belt.

Courtney Jackson (Lindenwold, NJ)

Hi dan, what are the chances of seeing mayweather and bradley fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:03 PM)

I suppose it's possible.

Chris (Newark, N.J./ Puerto Rico)

If Cotto-Berto and JuanMa-Marquez happens on the same night but in different locations, which of the fights would you attend?

Dan Rafael
  (12:04 PM)

Love both fights, but if I had to pick one to be at, Cotto-Berto for sure.

Mike (CT)

The alt-tab feature has been great to hide your chats but nothing can be done for laughter caused by "Do u think Floyd has trouble going to the bathroom w schaefer and ellerbes lips occupying so much of his butt"

Roy (Reno)

I am getting excited about Gamboa-Rojas and Peterson-Rios, thinking of making the trip to Vegas. Any idea how the rest of the under card is shaping up?

Dan Rafael
  (12:06 PM)

Top Rank will put on Mike Lee, a light heavyweight prospect. The rest of the card is being put together.

Pete (Brooklyn)

Sam Peter is looking for the honored distinction of being the only guys with three losses combined to the Klitschko bros.

Edwin (Puerto Rico)

I think Cotto-Berto is going to end up being the big fight of the end of the year. Good! Pacquiao-Margacheato doesn't deserve that spot.

J in FLA (Cocoa, FL)

Is Kahn / Bradley actually possible for the fall or is it just talk?

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

Glad you asked. JUST got breaking news from the Bat Email. Gary Shaw said he spoke to Richard Schaefer last night about that exact fight for the fall. They talked over some ideas and possible financials from what Gary said.

jermaine (new jersey)

will we see mike jones on hbo soon

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

I think eventually we will. Not necessarily this year but I think if Mike stays on course, sometime early next year I think he can get a shot on HBO in a meaningful fight.

Ronak (NY)

Why not Kahn vs Pacquiao? At this point, ill take that.

Dan Rafael
  (12:10 PM)

They're both trained by Freddie Roach. They spar together. They're in the same camp together. Not going to happen.

Steve (NYC)

How could the WBO rank Tua #2

Dan Rafael
  (12:10 PM)

You are asking about an organization that once ranked a dead person.

Mike (Simpsonville SC)

If Cotto vs Berto can't get made I wouldn't mind seeing Berto vs Bradley. They are both on the small side for welterweight and both have tremenodus speed and a lot of heart.

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 PM)

Berto-Bradley is unlikely. The promoters have both said that is unlikely. The fighters are friends and are not interested in the fight at this point.

Michael (Long Beach, CA)

I know you wrote about this, but if no negotiations were going on, then why wouldn't Mayweather or his camp say something sooner in the non-process? Doesn't make sense.

Dan Rafael
  (12:12 PM)

I have no answer for that at all.

Roy (Reno)

WOW...breaking news as soon as I hit submit. I love Friday chats.

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 PM)

So do I.

John (Phoenix)

Segura v. Calderon. There is a god. YES!!! Segura ices him in round 3.

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 PM)

Bold prediction.

jcs (winnipeg, canada)

I think Berto-Cotto would make me really happy. can we start some sort of petition?

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 PM)

If fans want it, you gotta talk about it, ask for it, which many people are doing in today's chat.

Ryan (NYC)

D$ - Any chance that HBO will show the Spinks/K-9 Bundrage title fight on August 7th, transforming that night into a nice little tripple-header?

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 PM)

HBO won't show the fight but it might show clips of the bout.

WBC (Mexico)

We're considering making Green-Briggs II for the diamond belt.

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 PM)

I would expect nothing less.

Walter (LA, CA)

I think it's funny that Leonard Ellerbe is calling Bob Arum a liar. Isn't this the same Leonard Ellerbe that said Floyd had no problems/issues with the IRS last year?

David (Winston-Salem)

I agree...we have to ask for it. WE WANT BERTO-COTTO!!

Bubba (Ottawa il)

Hey king freak. Great notebook today my man. You cant get coverage like that anywhere but with you on espn.com. I know nobody is really talking about this but did you catch the barrett-tua fight last week on PPV? I thought monte got robbed. Did you? And also i would rather watch paint dry then to see pac-margo. What a BS fight dan.

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 PM)

Thank you. I did think Monte probably deserved the win, but it was close. Tua had put a lot of rounds in the bank early but Monte finished very strong.

Chris (Bay Area)

Berto-Cotto has the makings to be a very close fight. Two great styles. HBO get it done

Steve (NYC)

What is the deal with Curtis Stevens? Is he fighting on ESPN2, at a clubs how in brooklyn or nowhere?

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

Nowhere.

Mikey (South Dakota)

What's the Friday Night Fights schedule look like to end the year?

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

How about checking the fight sked?

Romeo (DC)

Is Larry Merchant going to be at the fight next week? Its been a long summer without a great "Merchant" comment.

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

No, next week's PPV will be called by Lampley and Emanuel. Just the two of them. No Larry or Max for some dumb reason.

Edwin (Puerto Rico)

Berto-Cotto!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

David (Winston-Salem)

I love the Cotto-Berto matchup as well. If you could pick, do you take that or Cotto-Angulo? Both could be great fights!

Dan Rafael
  (12:20 PM)

I'd be perfectly happy with either, but I think Cotto-Berto is a bigger fight for sure.

Cody Bible (Tucson. Az)

Dan you down to go to Mexico or Dubai if Pac and Margs is made in on of those spots?

Dan Rafael
  (12:21 PM)

Probably.

Dave (San Jose)

When you post comments from your wife how do you know it's really her and not someone who else who put "Mrs. DTM" as their name?

Dan Rafael
  (12:21 PM)

I just know.

Eric (DC)

Loved the article on Arum this week. Anyone who says you're on his payroll should take a look at that.

Dan Rafael
  (12:22 PM)

When people make those stupid remarks they are literally morons and have no idea about reality. The only payroll I am on is ESPN's, and I like it that way.

Do you think you can get Teddy Atlas to talk about Povetkin backing out tonight on FNF since you will be in studio?

I typically don't speak to the remote site, but given that the situation is in the news this week, I wouldn't be surprised if Teddy addressed it on the air tonight.

Dano, these chats are always filled with the always entertaining Floyd vs PacMan thoughts and I know how much you respect both of their boxing abilities. You don't ever really say how you feel of the matchup, judging it on a technical side? Who you think wins? Is Floyd too defensive for Pacman?? or does Pacman's pressure break him down?? I think Mayweather stops him on cuts.

I won't give my pick until the fight is made and then not until the week of the fight, but I do have a strong opinion and always have.

Loved Green's quote afterwards...good for him to say how he feels.

OK, Freaks, gotta cut it a little short this week. Need to go to the airport for the flight to Hartford. Hope you check out FNF tonight as well as read the new notebook, this week's blogs, news stories and the updated rankings and schedules. Talk to you next week from Vegas, where I will be for Marquez-Diaz II. Have a great weekend. Peace.
