Chat with Bill WIlliamson

Bill Williamson
  (3:03 PM)

Let's get rolling on a very bust day. Because of the death of former Oakland great Jack Tatum, this chat will go to 3:45. Thanks.

Owen (South Beach)

Bigger off-season pick up for the Raiders: Hue Jackson, Jason Campbell or Rolondo McLain. Biggest off season lose for the 2010 division champs: Kirk Morrison, Isaiah Ekejiuba, or JaMarcus Russell (just kidding!)

Bill Williamson
  (3:04 PM)

Biggest pickup: McClain.Biggest loss: None of them.

Drew (Cali)

How much will we be able to tell about the Raiders after the first full day of training camp practices?

Bill Williamson
  (3:04 PM)

Not much. It's one day.

Matthew (Kansas )

Will any afc west rookies miss significant time from training camp?

Bill Williamson
  (3:05 PM)

We have nine unsigned rookies. If any of them are out this time next week, it will be a problem.

Conrad (Parker, Colorado)

BW, due to the fact that Champ Bailey has stated he wants to move to safety to extend his career, how much will this complicate Denver getting a deal done with him?

Bill Williamson
  (3:06 PM)

I think Champ is open to moving to safety if it extends his career.

Camrin (El Cajon, CA)

When will Ryan Mathews be signed? How much do you think the Chargers are going to give him?

Bill Williamson
  (3:06 PM)

It may take a few days. He'll get a market-value deal.

Drew (Cali)

If Hue Jackson turns the Raider offense around and gets interest as a HC around the league, do you think the Raiders fire Cable just to retain Jackson?

Bill Williamson
  (3:08 PM)

If Cable doesn't get the job done himself.

Jake (Bluffton, OH)

RIP Jack Tatum. He's one of the first players that comes to mind when I think of the Raiders Mystique. Every safety on our roster should strive to play as aggressive and violent as Tatum once did. Raider Nation will miss him!

Bill Williamson
  (3:09 PM)

Yes sir.

Michael (Tujunga, CA)

Hey Bill love the chats, I was wondering if McDaniels has a sub-par season (say 6-10) do you think he will be let go? And if so who could the broncos get...I wouldnt mind Cowher

Bill Williamson
  (3:11 PM)

I think the only way McDaniels is in trouble is if the Broncos win 0-3 games. I think he's pretty safe.

Brian (San Diego)

Hey Bill, I was wondering if you had heard anything else about the possibility of more 3-4 looks from Oakland. They have some great guys for that scheme and Trevor Scott looks like a natural 3-4 OLB.

Bill Williamson
  (3:11 PM)

They added many 3-4 type guys, so we may see it some. It sure makes sense.

Drew (Cali)

I would imagine we see more backfields with Bush and McFadden both in. Do you think Bush would have a problem with this based on him not wanting to play FB last year?

Bill Williamson
  (3:13 PM)

I think they can get creative and make both backs happy. Both of these two guys are talented, but they have to show better consistency.

Robert (Los Angeles)

do you see the raiders picking up any more high profile players before season starts?

Bill Williamson
  (3:14 PM)

Like who?If they were impact players they'd already be signed.

Dez Bryant (Inrving, TX)

True or False: The Broncos should have picked me because I could have replaced Marshal. (I still won't carry nobody's pads though).

Bill Williamson
  (3:15 PM)

True ... As long as you would have carried Gaffney's shoulder pads, of course.

Brian (Philadelphia,PA)

Good Afternoon BW, With the emergence of Murphy & Chaz Schilenz foot injury still lurking, is there a posssibilty DHB could assumer the #1 WR role or will Raiders still try to keep him in the Slot position?

Bill Williamson
  (3:16 PM)

I think that's up to Heyward-Bey. He's is being paid a whole lot. He is being paid to being a No. 1 receiver, so that's what Oakland wants him to be.

DJ Mbenga (Golden State)

From what you've seen thus far in OTAs, what are the chances Walter McFadden unseats Routt as the nickel corner? Routt's high tender this offseason suggests the coaches and management value him greatly, but his play has been streaky during his Raiders career.

Bill Williamson
  (3:17 PM)

I think Routt is safe for another year, at least.

Jacob (Columbia SC)

How soon do you see Denvers' top draft picks signing and in what order?

Bill Williamson
  (3:19 PM)

I get the feeling Tebow may be clsoer to signing than Thomas.

-b-rian (las vegas)

Help me finish this sentence...Linebacker Shawne Merriman will play for the________ in 2010.

Bill Williamson
  (3:19 PM)

San Diego Chargers.

Chris (Chicago)

If only one of the Broncos' new injury-prone WR's (Thomas/Decker) works out in the long run to be a healthy productive receiver, would we still consider the overall risk a success?

Bill Williamson
  (3:20 PM)

Depends on how successful he is.

dale (atlanta)

where are contract talks with Tebow?

Bill Williamson
  (3:20 PM)

They are ongoing. I hear they are going pretty well.

Brian (Rockledge, PA)

Any updated news on the Rolando McClain deal. Close, talks have begun or just far from being inked?

Bill Williamson
  (3:21 PM)

He has said he wants to get in. The Raiders have been aggressive in getting their picks signed recently. I don't see a big problem on this one.

Bill Williamson
  (3:21 PM)

KC (Kansas)

With the changes in DL and LB - can the Raiders final stop the run?

Bill Williamson
  (3:22 PM)

Million dollar question. The key is McClain, but can he make that big of a difference?

Robert (San Marcos, Tx)

Do you think the Broncos can start the season 6-0 again?

Bill Williamson
  (3:23 PM)

The bigger quesiton is can they finish the season 2-8 again?

JAKE (Kansas)

What's the likely hood of the chiefs having everyone signed before camp starts.

Bill Williamson
  (3:24 PM)

I think Berry is the key. The other three should easily get done.

Robert (Los Angeles)

with all the off season changes in Oakland, do you think it would be wise to pursue a trade to upgrade yet another position if the opportunity presents itself?

Bill Williamson
  (3:25 PM)

Yes, but you can say that for all 32 teams.

Robert (Los Angeles)

is the possibility of no NFL in 2011 something to seriously worry about?

Bill Williamson
  (3:32 PM)

Sure, it's something to think about. But I think, in the end, there will be the NFL played at a high level in 2011.

frank (va)

since the raiders have issues at o-line would they pursue flozell adams?

Bill Williamson
  (3:33 PM)

He's been available for several weeks. I think the Raiders are comfortable on the line, for now. But you never know what will happen once camp starts.

Mr. W (Dallas)

How likely is it that Denver now starts to work on Champ Bailey's extension? It doesn't seem like they are overly concerned with extending his contract.

anton (san diego)

Do you think Craig Davis will be able to contribute this year with VJax out?

Bill Williamson
  (3:34 PM)

It may be something Denver looks at down the road a few months. To answer the Davis quesiton: It's now or never for him.

DJ Mbenga (Golden State)

What do you think the Raiders best front four would look like? I'm thinkin Shaughnessy, Kelly, Houston, and Seymour.

Bill Williamson
  (3:34 PM)

That may be it, yes.

Emily (San Toriano, CA)

Bill - I love that the Raiders have chosen stability in the coaching staff. I also love that they are going with youth and character. Who is going to challenge McClain for DROY?

Bill Williamson
  (3:34 PM)

How bout Suh?

Jake (Bluffton, OH)

Any chance the Raiders make a move for Mankins to shore up the suspect line and give their weapons a chance?

Bill Williamson
  (3:36 PM)

He'd cost a whole lot.

frank (va)

will the raiders blitz more this year?

Bill Williamson
  (3:36 PM)

It seems like we ask that quesiton every season, doesn't it?

John (Pennsylvania)

i heard Jon Asamoah has signed. Is that true?

Bill Williamson
  (3:37 PM)

It is not official.

Mr. W (Dallas)

Whos shines and receives the most targets as a WR for Oakland?

Bill Williamson
  (3:38 PM)

Schilens if he stays healthy and continues to improve.

Jake (Bluffton, OH)

I've read rumors that the raiders could potentially move Huff to Nickel back so that they can get Mike Mitchell on the field. But I don't see that as a good idea after Huff finally had a productive year at safety. What can they do realistically to get Mitchell on the field more?

Bill Williamson
  (3:39 PM)

I think the best way for Mitchell to get on the field is to improve and show he is ready.

Nick (San Diego)

So even if Vincent Jackson and Marcus McNeill holdout for the entire season, won't the Chargers just not offer them anything again and force them to holdout for an entire season again?

Bill Williamson
  (3:42 PM)

If these two guys hold out for the entire it would be diffuclt to imagine either player being bakc in 2011.

Matthew (Missouri)

Who will start at center for the chiefs Casey Wiegmann or Rudy Niswanger?

Bill Williamson
  (3:42 PM)

My guess: Wiegmann. He can still play.

Brandon (Springfield, MO)

With the strong ties between Kansas City and New England, will the chiefs continue to pick up practice squad players from them to help slowly build the defense?

Bill Williamson
  (3:44 PM)

I think so sure, as long as Pioli likes the guys.

George (pomona)

do you see Mr Davis putting same caliber cb as Nnamdi on the the other side of the field in the coming years

Bill Williamson
  (3:45 PM)

Do you know how hard that is? Nanmdi is one of the very best CBs in the league.

Bill Williamson
  (3:45 PM)

Thanks, everyone. Talk to you next week.
