Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:02 PM)

Hi all. thanks for coming.

Rob (Kentucky)

I think the Titans offense will be just as good if not better than they were last year. Their return game should be better than it was last year but I think their defense took a hard hit with the loss of Vandenbosh and Bulluck. I know Morgan is expected to do big things and I'm a firm believer that leaders will deveop. Do you concur?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:03 PM)

I think the defense will do some struggling and I won't believe in return game until I see the improvement.

John (Park City, Utah)

Give me your best shot on the top three fantasy defenses this season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

For fantasy purposes, so including special teams: Baltimore, Jets, Chicago

John (Cape Cod)

What are the chances of the Colts receivers this year being able to match or better the numbers put up by the 2004 group? Is there anyone at the 3rd WR spot that could have the 1000 yard 10 TD impact Stokley had?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

The third receiver can't get 1,000 if Wayne and Clark at are their numbers and the second guy gets a big share too. Can he?

Billy Houston Tx [via mobile]

What do you think of the Texans schedule this year? What do you think their chances are for making the playoffs this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

The whole division looks to have it tougher with the NFC East. Way better than NFC West last year.

U.K Titan (Reading U.K)

Hey Paul. Titan's cut KBull, O.k, thats a decision maybe with the long term in mind. But am I being lame/ignorant in thinking less of Jeff Fisher over the way it happened? J.F said on more than one occasion that he hoped Titan's could find a way to bring KB back to finish his career there, but he signs for NYG for a piddling $150k?. A ten year vet busts his knee on the field, but he is'nt allowed to continue rehab with Titans after March? Was there any locker room problems after the 0-6 start and the Manning jersey thing, which KB seemed underwhelmed by?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

They didn't cut him. He turned into a free agent. He doesn't rehab with them then because he's not theirs. You don't call and thank him before things are settled. It hurts your leverage in case something happens. They didn't want him and he knew it. But things could have changed. What should they have said? I think you make the call once the Giants sign him, to say thanks and good luck.

chris (ann arbor)

I keep hearing mixed reports on the healthy of bob sanders...can you give me the facts...and nothin but the facts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

No. I can't. Here's who can: the Colts and Bob Sanders. And they don't offer up a lot, particularly when they aren't available to discuss it yet. The team and Sanders' rep denied the report.

Finley (Campaign Headquarters)

I know you said we don't have the budget to get into commercials, but I've got an idea. Talk to some of these rich AFC South athletes and raise some dough. I hear CJ2K just got a couple million.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

I don't know if CJ is a dog guy, but perhaps I will consult with him Saturday.

Shane Smith (Hanford WA)

Whos starting at Corner for the titans? Obviously Finn but whos next???

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

I'd bet Jason McCourty right now.

CTM (Clarksville)

If you were the bookie what would be the odds that Fisher meets Bud's standard and wins a playoff game this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

I don't think he will. But if you think Bud was laying down some sort of law and will fire Jeff otherwise, I think you're reading is a lot more strict than mine.

Todd(PA) [via mobile]

Who's the front runner now that Slaton is healthy I know everyonne says he will be the 3rd down back but he was great was he was healthy 2 years ago n didn't have problems with fumbled either.Do you think he can steal te show even tho they have Foster and Tate?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:10 PM)

I don;t know that Slaton can come back from that and take the pounding that comes with the bulk of the work. And i don't buy Foster off two good games. So I say ultimately this season it'll be Tate they lean on most.

Chris (Memphis, TN)

BTW I'm getting fed up with my fellow Titans fans acting so emotional over the departure of Bulluck. Shouldn't we be used to it now?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

This town is incredibly emotional and sentimental. Hell, you'd think Earnest Byner was the greatest position coach in history for the reaction he's gotten. If Fisher liked Kennedy Pola better than Byner, and he did, how do you blame him for trying to upgrade?

Will Ferrel (Filming)

PK, I don't know if you've seen the previews for my new movie, The Other Guys. Marky Mark isn't cutting it and I'd like you to replace him.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

I am on board.

tygr20 (Indiana)

Over or under: Donald Brown will take 40% of the snaps at RB for the Colts

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

How's his pass protection?

Ryan (NY)

PK, missed you last week. Wanted to ask you this. Lombardi said something about Bob Sanders not being able to ever play football again because of his arm and bicep, but this was the 1st I've heard of it and haven't heard anything since. Do you have any info on this situation?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

Colts and Sanders deny it.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

Clark 1, Daniels 2, everyone else distant third...

Tom (Jacksonville)

Who are the starting safetys for the jags come this fall?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:16 PM)

Gerald Alexander and Reggie Nelson to start, probably.

Richard (Knoxville)

It says plenty that Bulluck only got 150,000 guaranteed. He had a bunch of down the field tackles last year, but overall his play slipped and it showed on most Sundays.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

I think there is some truth to that. He'd slipped.

Ben (Indy)

Any pre-training-camp colts O-line predictions?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

I think the tackles will stay the same.

Caleb (Clarksville)

Is there any team that stands a legitimate chance at taking the AFC South from the Colts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:20 PM)

I do not believe so.

Toast (Reggie Nelson's House)

Should I get ready for another long season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:21 PM)

Hard to be confident now.

ctm (clarksville)

When McRath was suspended in mid-June why did the Titans work out Bulluck to check out his knee? 2.5M for 1 year is cheap.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

Because they have Thornton to fill in.

BC Dayton, Oh [via mobile]

Why does Britt seemed to be overlooked after a solid season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

Ocverlooked? I don't see that. He dropped down the offseason depth chart because he came back fat and then he dropped a lot of balls. Still, I think he gets it now and will be good.

Tommy (Crossville, TN)

How do you think Dowell Loggains will do coaching Qbs in TN?...think they'll go outside to hire an offensive assistant to replace richie Wessman?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

I think they are both bright young coaches. QB coach is more like assistant to the OC in a lot of ways. I don't see any more hires now.

Peyton Manning (Indianapolis)

You said the tackles would stay the same but you didn't mention Jeff Saturday being the center and you didn't run that by me first. We haven't been communicating well and I feel left in the dark.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

Of course Saturday is the center. My bad on that one chief. Love, Pete.

KingKev (Texas)

Is Pierre Garcon to Reggie Wayne what Reggie Wayne was to Marvin Harrison?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

Not yet. Not by a long shot yet.

Adam (Duval)

Is MJD worth my number one overall fantasy pick?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

Depends what number you are drafting.

Jim Bob Cooter (Living The Dream)

Seriously, name one NFL coach or assistant that has a better name than me. You can't do it!!!!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:26 PM)

Seriously, name one NFL coach or assistant that has a WORSE name than me. You can't do it!!!!

Mike (Ohio)

Pk, just an FYI in case you care, but the guy mentioned in the "Early Influence" column on Andre Johnson, Warren Jabali, was an outstanding basketball player in the ABA back in the 70s.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

I knew that. I am not sure if AJ does, or remembers. Was a cool little remembrance from him, I thought.

ryan (orlando)

What do you think the jags chance of making a late playoff push this year is?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

Very small. Getting out of last will be an accomplishment.

Robert (Latrobe, PA)

Will anyone bring some heat across from Williams this year? Smith? Barwin? That guy is already a monster, and if defenses actually had to worry about anyone else he could lead the league in sacks.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:28 PM)

Barwin's gong to be out there on third down and should be better.

Lawrence (Nashville)

over/under CJ at least gets to 1500 yds?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:28 PM)

I think he will be right around there -- 1,200-1,500.

ctm (clarksville)

So Thornton is ready to go?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:28 PM)

Supposed to be.

Ricky (Jax)

Who is gonna be on the field opposite MSW to start the year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:29 PM)

That's one of the big questions that needs to shake out. Would be great if it was Troy Williamson with Mike Thomas as the third.

Tommy (Crossville, TN)

Stanford Keglar vs. Jamie Winborn for the last linebacker spot, which do the titans choose?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

Someone from outside would be my choice. Toss up there. Winborn for teams experience perhaps. They aren't high on Keglar.

Derek (Houston)

A lot of people aren't really excited about the Texan's cornerbacks this upcoming season. The 1st round draft choice Kareem Jackson will team up with 2nd yr Glover Quin as the team's 2 starting CBs. The Texans drafted Quin in the 4th round of last years draft and he started the last 13 games of the season and didn't allow a TD all year. If the Houston coach's can groom a 4th round draft pick out of NM into a contributing starter his rookie yr, then I am very excited and have really high hopes for Kareem Jackson this season. Your thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

I think they need more than what they have to stop Peyton Manning.

Ron (Georgia)

Hey Paul, what do the Texans coaches know about their FS that the rest of us can't see? And why are they not as terrified as I am about the passing numbers likely to be put up against them this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:30 PM)

If they love Eugene Wilson, great. But how about a plan B?

ryan (orlando)

you dont think the revamped def. line and 2nd yr for both tackles will improve both sides of the ball? We were 2 games away from the playoffs last year before our slide at the end of the season.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:31 PM)

This season is not last season. And NFC East is tough.

Tommy (Crossville, TN)

Think David Thornton will stick after TC or do you think they could look to Jamie Winborn or Colin Allred at McRaths spot (during his suspension)?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:32 PM)

Allred's a MLB and Winborn isn't as good as a healthy Thornton. I thought DT would not make it out of camp. Then McRath got suspended. Now I think DT starts four games.

Ricky (Jax)

Rashean Mathis has been overrated for the past few years. What are the chances of Cox taking over the top corner spot this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:32 PM)

What's the main difference between the "top" corner and the second corner if they both play every down?

Colts Nation (Lurking)

Any chance our D improves this season? Year two of Coyer...maybe he mixes things up even more?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:33 PM)

Definitely. If he gets something from Sanders. If Moala contributes. If Hughes contributes. They can definitely be better. And a lot of guys will probably be more comfortable in Year Two of Coyer.

Bill (Jax)

Why? Why is the NFLPA playing hardball with the rookie salary cap in the CBA negotiations? Why are the current players making it such a contetious point in the bargaining when it appears to be a win/win for both the players and the owners? Is it simply because they know the owners want it so much, or am I missing something?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:34 PM)

Players want to make sure that money still goes to players, just different players.

Sergio Garcia (White Sulphur Springs, WV)

Pete, had a great round with your boy Frankie at the Greenbriar yesterday. Lofty fellow, he is.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:34 PM)

We thought he meant Sergio Mendes.

OJ (nashville)

If the Jags D-line improves will it give them an extra win or 2 this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:35 PM)

You can't do equations like that. Are the safeties better too? The pass protection? Garrard's accuracy?

Dan (Indy)

What will you do if the NFL shuts down in a year due to CBA? Honestly, I need some suggestions just in case.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:35 PM)

They will not miss a whole season.

Mac (Newnan, GA)

What team do you think can challenge the Cowboys for NFC East?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:35 PM)

Giants.

Brian (Jacksonville)

More likely: Sims-Walker 1000 yards or 10 TDs?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:36 PM)

Ten TDs.

Richard (Knoxville)

The Titans had too many guys that were starting for them last year and out of the league the next; Mawae, Kearse, Harper. They have timed letting players go correctly in the past, why did they miss so bad on these?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:37 PM)

Kearse started four games last year. It is bad that they go old at so many spots simultaneously. It should space out better. But some you can't predict.

Darin (Freeport, Bahamas)

Hi. I had huge expectations for Amobi Okoye(sp) as a dt for the Texans. A few years now into his carrer, and he is not what I expected him to be thus far. He is still pretty young so I think the lites will come on soon (I think it will be this season). Whats your and the Texans take on him? Also, how old is he now?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:38 PM)

http://espn.go.com/blog/afcsouth/post/_/id/12861/texans-push-amobi-okoye-to-finish

Rashad Jennings (Jacksonville)

Do you see my or my little buddy Deji's role increasing this season to take some burden off MJD?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:39 PM)

Lot of people real high on Deji real fast. We'll have to see the two of you in the preseason to know what they've got for sure. And you don't want to take too much from MJD.

ryan (orlando)

What effect do you think the name for the stadium and practice fields will do for jaguars ticket sales? will it help get the job done so we have little to no blackouts this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

If I am a fan who's thinking about season tickets, why would a name or no name on the stadium or practice field have any bearing at all on me?

David (Orange Park, Florida)

The Jags- naming rights for the stadium, naming rights for the practice fields, a new scratch off game in the Florida lottery and tickets sales are signifigantly ahead of last year. Maybe things are turning around for Jax. The Jags still have some work to do to the fill the stadium but it looks promising.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:40 PM)

Good developments, all.

Roger Goodell (Tanning)

Paul, I regret to inform you that I've been informed that someone didn't inform you that you're suspended for two games.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:41 PM)

Which two?

Mike (Utah)

How many years does manning have left in the tank?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:41 PM)

Six? Eight? Plenty.

Tommy (Crossville, TN)

Does Derrick Morgan get signed before Saturday?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:42 PM)

Don't know. Can't imagine he'd miss more than a couple practices, which wouldn't be that big of a deal.

Quentin grand rapids mi [via mobile]

Paul, how many teams in the afc south are legitimate playoff contenders????....PLEASE SAY MY TITANS!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:43 PM)

Two, and not your Titans. In my eyes at this stage.

Jorge Plaster (M'boro)

So Columbia University actually has a football team?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

Won the 1934 Rose Bowl, Chief. World's a lot bigger than SEC country.

Russel Allen (Jacksonville)

What do you think about some of this pub I'm getting from people like your fellow cohort Len Pasquarelli? Can i take the freak, Justin Durant's job?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:44 PM)

It surprises me and means I have to watch you closely down there.

James (South Bend, IN)

Hey, Paul, why do i hear so much about Donald Brown being a better option than Addai? I believe Brown COULD be the better runner if he can get more reps, but isn't Addai's blocking and receiving ability far superior, and more important, than Brown's edge in the rushing game?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

Yes. I am with you. Addai gets a bum rap. A lot of people projecting forward, that they need to get Brown ready for 2011. I think they worry about this season this season, and we see more Addai than Brown still.

Darrik (Jax)

Is this a make or break it year for Jack "of the River?'

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:46 PM)

Yes, but it's difficult to say what qualifies as "make."

Adam (JAX)

You seem to suggest the Jags arent even close to being contenders. Besides safety, where is the biggest un-addressed need?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

Playmaker. They have two and the second one isn't dynamic. Even if they had addressed every need, you really think they are close to Indy?

Jeff Fisher (Knoxville)

Hey Paul I'm not looking to jinx anyone, not especially my own but in case of injury who is the #2 RB on my Titans squad?... Lord I pray please keep CJ heathy all season....... make that his entire career....

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

You're the one pumping Javon Ringer.

James (Indy)

Who you got in the Olympics in 2068?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:47 PM)

America.

Jason (Houston)

People keep talking about how much harder the AFC South schedule is this year because of the NFC East instead of the NFC West, but we also play the AFC West this year instead of the AFC East. Personally I think the AFC East of a year ago was better than the NFC East this year. I just think the Eagles and Redskins will be mediocre at best and the Giants and Cowboys will only be above average.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:49 PM)

AFC West is going to be better than people think. San Diego should be good. I think Oakland will be a stringer second place team and that KC will cause some problems some Sundays. Plus at Oak, KC and Denver are all tough road trips. (I expect Denver to crumble.)

Chris (pa) [via mobile]

Do you think that Kareem will be as good or better as dunta was? Dunta was a in your face guy but had a lack of ballhawk skills. Is Jackson the lockdown ballhawkin corner to build the secondary around?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:49 PM)

Check back with me after the preseason?

Adam (JAX)

They are close to Indy in the last minute everytime they play.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:50 PM)

Oh, they lose to them narrowly? Then they must he right on their heels. Except for the SEVEN game difference in records.

HANK (lobo)

are you going to wear your hair like justin beiber?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:51 PM)

I can't. Unless he's doing a Matt Hasselbeck/ Bruce Willis kind of deal?

Brian (Jacksonville)

Shoot me straight PK. Does anyone in the national media actually want Jacksonville to succeed? Or do people like having the Jags to poke fun at?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:52 PM)

People in the national media want good stories. Jags being good would be a good story. If the time comes, many will jump at it. But name me "down" franchises the national media IS rooting for? I'm getting a lot of this lately, and I have to say it doesn't help the national image of Jags fans that they are acting like they are victims.

Joey Marchy (Urban Jacksonville)

What Jacksonville camp battles areYou looking at and over under 10 sacksfor Alualu?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:53 PM)

Under. Dude, he's not an end. Curious about interior DL, WRs after MSW, how safeties shake out.

James (KCMO)

2 years ago, the Titans had one nasty-good defense. What happened?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:54 PM)

They got hurt, they got old, they changed coordinator.

Jason (Indiana)

Do you foresee any serious challenges to Wheeler to start at linebacker for the Colts? I know they drafted the kid from Iowa, but he seems more set to succeed Brackett someday.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:54 PM)

Probably not.

Joey Marchy (Urban Jacksonville)

Why does Gene Smith get a pass for all the bad Jaguars draft picks under Shack Harris when he was involved with scouting during the same time period? PS my burrito lunch offer stands when you are down here for training camp.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:55 PM)

Because Harris had final say. If Gene loved Quentin Groves when they drafted him, for example, don't you think he'd have given him more of a chance instead of the quick boot?

Adam (Louisville, KY)

We all know Hughes will come in to spell Freeney and Mathis at DE throughout the game, but it's been thrown around he could be on the field with both as a "joker" LB, could you explain what this means? Thanks!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

Pass rushing DE type standing up and working like an OLB. I'd be surprised to see that wrinkle, but it sure would be interesting.

JC (TN)

Do you see VY putting up some big passing numbers this year with most defenses looking to stack the box to stop CJ?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:56 PM)

Sometimes good. Sometimes terrible.

Robert (Cincinnati)

With Sanders coming back (allegedly) opposite Bethea, what role do you see Bullitt playing in the Colts defense next year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:57 PM)

Has to be in some packages. Polian says there is no way to not play him. So maybe he's in a version of the nickel. He'll be key special teamer too.

john (GA)

hey, was sorgi getting forced out, is that why he left? he had a sweet gig going.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:58 PM)

Was he getting forced out? They cut him. So that's forcing him out, right?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:59 PM)

Well kids, you've been great. Stay tuned for announcements on when we chat during camp tour. Be well...
