Welcome back to the Tuesday morning fantasy chat. We've got 60 minutes of questions to get to, so let's get to it, shall we? Second cup of coffee in hand. Who is leading off, today?
What's the latest on Dan Haren?
Looks like the verdict is a bruise and nothing more serious... however, that doesn't mean he'll be ready to make his next start. More news sure to come, but at least for now the worst seems to be perhaps having him pushed back a day or two.
Any chance Boesch comes back to life?
I think he's going to finish the season around .300 or so. The problem with Boesch is that his lineup, which was once full of support, is now dropping like flies. It's hard for any hitter to continue to hit well under these circumstances.
How about Jason Bay for the remainder of the season? Any hope of a turnaround?
Hope? Always hope. Bay has been a huge disappointment, but then again, most Mets have been. I see little upside here for the rest of 2010, sadly.
Odds on Mark Buehrle keeping up the quality starts?
He's got little in the tank, and it all falls on his defense. No K's, so as long as the White Sox put in the defensive effort, he'll be OK. That's why he's such a scary pitcher for fantasy purposes.
Are you buying what Granderson is doing?
Yes, in the sense that there was bound to be a power surge at some point this season. No in the sense, that I don't think he gets to 20.
Do you trust Saunders next week with two home starts?
Assuming you mean post-trade and the week of August 2... I'm not high on Saunders right away. The park isn't friendly to pitchers in the first place, and secondly, he reportedly took the deal hard. Not sure he'll be 100 percent mentally there.
Greinke got bombed yesterday. Is this a sign for the rest of the season? How come there are no trade talks surrounding him? Seems like the Royals could get something back for him.
Greinke is still top 20, and certainly the Royals can get something back for him... but teams are going to be even more hesitant right now after watching what happened to DeJesus and Haren... they may not want to mortgage the farm only to see the new guy get injured as soon as the handshake is made.
Think we'll get moved? We both want to win a championship!
Dunn I have my doubts. If they can't move Hart, which would likely be preferred, then maybe Prince goes...
Need to drop one: Gardner, Pierre or Figgins
Chone has done little in 2010, and should continue to do so.
Any upside for Jayson Werth for the rest of the season?
Depends where he ends up and what his role ends up being. Plenty of upside if he say, goes to Detroit, and fills an obvious hole.
Theriot or Aaron Hill at 2B for the balance of the season?
Hill the rest of the way.
Rank these pitchers: Baker, De La Rosa, Myers
Myers slightly ahead of Baker, and then a ways aways to Jorge.
What kind of performances do you expect from garza for the rest of the season? Closer to yesterdays no-no, or the 4 home run performance against BALTIMORE?
No-no's are simply one good start, and can come from anyone at any time. I think Garza is/was a No. 4 fantasy starter. Nothing yesterday changes that.
of the three molina brothers who is your number one?
It's Yadier for me.
disregard rankings.. Can only start 3 tonight: Floyd v SEA, Verlander @ TB, Weaver v BOS, Cain v FLA... dude. help.
Gut says to sit Verlander as Detroit simply is not hitting. Though, kudos to him for applauding when Garza got the no-no. Love to see the appreciation outweigh the competitive spirit.
Keeper league: would you rather have Votto for the rest of this year and next or Rollins for the rest of this year and the next three?
I don't even think I want Rollins the rest of this year, let alone three more.
TMR just tweeted that Logan Morrison was called up, I guess to replace Coughlin, what are your expectations?
I expect Morrison to split time in LF with Bonifacio, unless and until Cantu gets traded.
Callaspo or Neil Walker?
What is up with Mauer? Any sign that he is turning it around, or was last night just a fluke?
Seriously? Mauer hitting 5-for-5 a fluke? Come on, TK. 5-for-5 nights are certainly rare, but are you surprised that a guy like Mauer did it? He's going to finish the year over .300.
Strasburg or Haren?
Haren the rest of this year. Assuming there's nothing to this injury, he at least will be pitching in September.
Luke Scott or Colvin rest of the way
Scott. Still an outside shot at 30.
Tell my fantasy owners I'm sorry.- Brandon
Everyone is laughing at you for suggesting that you believe a team would trade for a player of Jayson Werth's ability and make him a role-player.
Likeliest teams to get him would be NYY and TB. You tell me the Yankees sit Swisher every day or TB the same for Upton? I don't buy it.
Should I keep Brandon Morrow on my roster or just pick him up when he has nice home matchups?
Morrow is definitely a stream guy only.
Please rank for the rest of the season: VMart, Posey, Santana. Thanks AJ.
Posey, Carlos, V-Mart.
Im not laughing at you so with that said...rest of the year...Floyd, Hamels, Bucholz, Nolasco
Nolasco, Hamels, Floyd and then Clay.
Is Pedro Alvarez going to be worth owning in a 10 Team League?
Eventually, sure. 2010, no. Rather take a chance with Chris Johnson if I'm taking chances.
Am I finally getting myself sorted out for a nice second half?
A nice second half - sure. Enough to remove the bad taste of the first half. No.
Can I still strike out a batter per inning, without killing your ERA and WHIP or should I remain in FA?
No, I think your WHIP pretty much goes bye-bye.
thoughts on Scherzer for the second half. Is he a spot starter?
I think you saw it last night... he can be really good for several innings straight, then falls apart. Kind of like Sid Fernandez in the late 80's.
Kubel or Matsui
Scales lean slightly to Minnesota.
The DeJesus and Haren injuries are going to make teams hesitant to deal? Please explain this Snake Canyon of conclusion jumps. Wow.
Teams will still deal, but they are certainly going to bit a bit more frugal in what they give up - and if teams like KC don't cut the asking price, then deals won't get made.
Is it an overreaction, sure. But of course, GMs NEVER overreact.
I'm by no means complaining about Longoria, but his power numbers are a little disappointing. Any reason why? Any hope for a power surge soon?
I'm not worried about it... he's still putting up top ten numbers overall. It'll come.
Am I a top-40 overall player for 2011?
Assuming the kid gloves are off... most likely.
An El Sid reference. Love it.
LOL. Can't wait for the haters, though. "Last week you said Max Scherzer was as good as Sid Fernandez. How dare you!"
Does james shields get lit up as retribution for Garza's no-no? still a must start or bench him?
What, were the Tigers not trying? I wouldn't bench him simply because Garza did well the day before.
whats your take on trading a keeper for a host of solid players to try and win a championship?
You may never get this close again. You play for today, even in keeper leagues.
H2H points league, in great shape to make the playoffs. Time to trade Strasburg right? What kind of hitter can I target?
Absolutely time to trade the IP-count crew in H2H. As for what you can target... start with Pujols and work your way down. ; )
How dare you compare the careers of Sid Fernandez and Max whatever his name is!
AJ! Let loyalty count for something, I give Bautista I get Cantu and Verlander, thanks
Not sure I make that deal until I see where Jose ends up.
Am I a top 50 player the rest of the season?
If you are, we're looking at a squeaking in...
Does Latos fall in the category of the IP-count crew to trade?
He's the tough one to figure out... the Padres say he is, but I don't buy it. You don't bench your best starter if you're headed for the playoffs.
Got a high risk sleeper among starting pitchers for the rest of the season? I'm looking to gamble.
How about Fister and Kennedy.
That's the final gun, gang. Gotta fly... thanks to all who asked Q's, and for those I didn't get to - there's always the Twitter. Until the next time, Be Seeing You!
