Chat with Paul Kuharsky

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

Hi folks. Thanks for coming.

Driver's License (MIA)

Why am I so difficult to keep up with for young Tennessee players? I mean, I'm a license. It's not like I'm the remote or a set of keys.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:04 PM)

Yeah, I don't get it. I just updated my registration. It was not brain surgery or rocket scientology.

Matt (Indy)

Hey Paul. When are visiting Colts camp? I read a yahoo article today about how Manning really wants a balanced offense this year. Do you think this is possible? Is a rejuvenated running game something you will be looking for specifically at camp? What are your thoughts? Thanks!

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:05 PM)

Get there Monday night. More balanced is definitely a good goal, and they need to be able to run when defenses are overplaying for pass. I think Brody Eldridge is going to help.

Jason (Jacksonville)

Now that you've seen them in camp the last couple days...What is your impression of the direction the Jaguars as a team, and what is a realistic record for this season?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

Moving slowly in the right direction. Bit turn won't come until there is a new QB. Could be a better team with a lesser record this season.

Chris (Grand Rapids, MI)

Will Mawae find a job in the NFL this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

Seems it will boil down to an injury now.

SprungOnSports (Long Island)

Has anyone jumped into the lead for the Texans' running back job or will it be a committee all the way?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:06 PM)

Way early still and I have not seen for myself. If they all stay healthy I think they will all get work.

Chris (Grand Rapids, MI)

I was surprised to hear about the severity of Griff's injury. I've been pretty hard on him. He still played bad though, and that can really damage one's confidence. Do you think he'll really pull it together this year and be dominant again? You made a comment about Robert Johnson passing him, I have heard next to nothing about Johnsons through OTA's and Camp, what's the buzz on him so far?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:07 PM)

Camp isn't even a week old. Griffin stunk, but the injury was worse than we knew. If Johnson is great and Griffin is horrible again, we could see a change during the season. It won't happen at the start.

Eric (Greencastle, IN)

Who ya got: Peyton or Darth Vadar? Who wore it better?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

Hard to beat Darth, thought I think he only won three MVPs.

Jim (Houston)

The Texans will win the Super Bowl this year. Guaranteed.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

That doesn't come from an emotional place at all.

Vince Young (Baptist Sports Park)

Do you think I'll have what it takes to step up to the next level and take this team to the playoffs this year?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:08 PM)

I don't. I don't see cause to expect 16 consistent games and no drama.

chris (chicago)

do you think that schobel would be a good fit for the texans? Bill Kollar said that Antonio Smith is more comfortable playing on the inside so if they sign him would it make sense to put Smith at DT and then put Schobel in on 1st and 2nd downs then switch him out for Barwin on 3rd down?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

I don't know if Smith is an every down DT, but they could find a way to make it work. If Schobel's cheap and willing to come knowing who else is there, go for it.

Ben (Indy)

Now that training camp has started, any word on who could start on the colts O-line? and who has ben taking the first-team reps?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:09 PM)

Reading it's been Ugoh and Pollak so far.

bamamarg (romeoville il)

Hi Paul. After the first 6 are gone would you suggest grabbing a QB. and who?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:10 PM)

Because there are so few RBs who are the fulltime lead guy, I would go QB early. I love Aaron Rodgers and Philip Rivers. But hard to turn away from Manning, Brees or Brady.

AJ (CA)

Do you think Andre Johnson deserves to be the highest paid wide reciever in the NFL?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:11 PM)

Does he deserve it? Yes. Does he deserve it based on the old contract he agreed to? No. He's fortunate they are so flexible.

John (South Bend, IN)

If Favre does indeed retire, what are Manning's chances of catching his records at this point?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:12 PM)

I think he probably gets most of them if he doesn't have injury issues.

Ulises (San Antonio)

Does the small media coverage on Andre Johnson deal a good thing or bad thing? He's the highest paid WR in the NFL, yet, there seems to be hardly any press coverage like you would imagine.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:13 PM)

A new contract is a big story when there is nothing gong on. Everyone is on the field and there is a ton going on. It's the No. 2 story here: http://espn.go.com/nfl/ What do you seek, actually?

Rob (Kentucky)

Which Titans practice are you going to be at? I hear if a person rubs your head he gets 5 years of good luck.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:14 PM)

Cute. I'll be there the 16th,, 17th, 25th, 26th for sure.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Why is the Tennessee Titans is suing USC for hiring a Coach?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:15 PM)

Because USC prompted the coach into breaking his contract with them, and did not follow the rules laid out by that coaches contract for being contacted about another job.

Brandon (San Antonio,X)

Why isn't the Andre Johnson press conference on ESPN? On a more serious note, how does Houston giving #80 a new deal affect the contract situations around the league?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:16 PM)

Because it's not that big a deal and not a lot.

Gil (Urban Jacksonville)

What do you make of the passing game inconsistencies at Jaguars Camp? Cause for worry or just training camp rust?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:16 PM)

Worry for sure. Way too inconsistent.

Charles (Goodlettsville)

Not that the Titan's are obligated to bring Mawae back, but what would be the issue of having him in a back up role? How many active O-lineman do they use?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:17 PM)

Apparently they'd rather go with kids on the upswing than a veteran on the downside. Seven or eight active on game days. Have to have an interior backup and a tackle available.

Jeff (NC)

Favorite Jacksonville eating establishment?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

Haven't been in a long time, but Marker 32 used to be phenomenal.

Ryan (St Louis)

I told you in a chat last year that Austin Collie would be a serious contributor for the Colts. I'm wondering how the balance among Collie, Garcon and Gonzo will play out this year. Thoughts?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:18 PM)

Everyone plays. Garcon the most.

Kevin (Louisiana)

I think don't see how Griffin's bum shoulder affected his ability to read play action... while I think he showed great toughness to play through those injuries it just seems like more excuses from him. I can't understand the missed tackles on the shoulder.. but I don't think it had anything to do with the blown coverages. I don't think he ever rebounds to be the guy from '08 unless the Titans have 45-50 qb sacks. Who backs up Vincent Fuller as the nickel?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:19 PM)

Very good points on Griffin. And I am not confident about his rebound.. Mouton is next up as the inside corner.

Simon Kuharsky (via mobile)

How about those Tampa Rays? I love this team! When do I get the Evan Longoria jersey? Mom gave her ok.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:20 PM)

We will discuss it when I get home, and it would benefit you to be in a Yankees outfit when we do.

Bob Sanders (Anderson)

Now that it is clear I'm healthy, what do you think of Michael Lombardi's journalistic integrity?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:20 PM)

What if in Week 3 Sanders has bicep problems that turn into a big issue? Couldn't Lombardi still be right?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:21 PM)

People: I can't announce the Titans No. 2 corner of the Texans RB rotation. They are just getting started.

Kevin (Louisiana)

Does Fuller get any reps at safety?... basically I'm getting at Fuller at Griffin's spot and Mouton in the nickel

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:22 PM)

Fuller gets second team reps at safety. I kind of like your idea. But Griffin will really have to bomb again to get benched and it would never happen until we're into the season.

Tom (Chicagoland)

Do you see any veterans who may surprisingly find themselves on the street on cutdown day?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:23 PM)

I have a feeling Vince Manuwai either starts or gets cut.

Blake Carl (Nashville, TN)

Do you think the Colts offense will look any different now that Tom Moore has been replaced by Clyde Christensen?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

I'd hope they'd maintain what they had and build on it. But Christensen's track record from Tampa was not good, and that's being polite.

Peyton Manning (Anderson, IN)

But Pete, I want to know who the Titans No. 2 corner will be for film watching purposes. We haven't been communicating well and I feel left in the dark.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:24 PM)

DM me.

Tim (WI)

What do you think about Fuller to safety with Verner being nickel? If Griff bombs again and Verner continues to play well.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:25 PM)

I don't know yet if Verner is suited to be an inside guy. He's played outside, even as the No. 2, so far for sure.

Gil (Urban Jacksonville)

Aside from it being on the warm side, how was your visit to Duval?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:26 PM)

Very nice, thanks. A lot of time in the dungeon/ press room. Press corps is a fun group.

Gil (Urban Jacksonville)

Is Derrick Harvey that much better or is Eben Britton that much worse?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

Harvey's better, Britton's hurt and now sitting out. Could be out until Monday.

Greg (Tennessee)

Was the statement in the Tennessean about Griff's surgery, with the 11 anchors, the first time the severity of Griffins injury was revealed?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

As far as I know, yes.

Stanford Keglar (Nashville)

Any chance I get cut? Seems as if McRath and Curran zoomed right past me, huh?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

You aren't in great standing and are hardly a roster lock.

Darrik (Jax)

Who do yuo think will be the Jags most improved player?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:27 PM)

Eugene Monroe. He's going to be very good for a long time.

Adam (Duval)

How did Deji Karim look to you? Can he be the explosive guy they think he can?

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:28 PM)

Looks like his legs are absolutely dead. I can't get a good feel for him from this trip.

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:28 PM)

OK folks, I know this is non-traditional, but...

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:29 PM)

...I ask that you relocate with me to "Training Camp Chatter Live," which you can find here: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp10/news/story?id=5410544

Paul Kuharsky
  (3:29 PM)

See you there, I hope.
