Chat with Ohm Youngmisuk

Ohm
  (2:58 PM)

Wud up, wud up. Let's get this thing going. Sorry to push it an hour back. But had Nicks news and Osi news to deal with.

DC (PA)

Wud up, Ohm? Hope your summer is going well...guess it just got real busy, huh? Any updates on the plan for Phillips? Thanks.

Ohm
  (3:00 PM)

The plan with Phillips is that he will remain on the PUP list until the doctors give him the clearance to practice again. They want to take it extremely slow with his knee and make sure when he does come back that he won't have any limitations.

Matt (MI)

Is it hard being a writer without being able to read and write, since you went to MSU?

Ohm
  (3:00 PM)

No, not at all. We know how to read, write and spell and we know how to beat Michigan in football and basketball.

JJ (NY)

Sup Ohm! Great write-up on Steve Smith. He's got a great attitude, but then again, after Mara's rant at the end of the season, I wouldn't expect much of a payday no matter what kind of numbers any of the Giants put up last year.

Ohm
  (3:01 PM)

JJ, wud up. I think it has more to do with the uncertainty of a new CBA. I get the feeling the Giants would take care of Smith. He is a good soldier and he continues to improve. The team has been using him more on deep routes. He's developing into much more than just a possession receiver.

Chioke Hassan (Baltimore,Md)

Dear OhmCould you see Bill Parcells returning to the NCAA to coach?

Ohm
  (3:02 PM)

Hey Chioke. I don't see Tuna in college at all. Tuna would be an awesome recruiter but I think he likes his job now and running a team.

Nick (Ithaca NY)

how can the bills make the playoffs this year?

Ohm
  (3:03 PM)

Nick, probably by putting together a good roster for next season. No playoffs this year my friend.

Vinnie (Columbus, OH)

Ohm's Law! How have Andre Brown and Travis Beckam looked in the early going at camp? We need additional playmakers and it seems as if both these guys have that kind of potential. Thanks.

Ohm
  (3:04 PM)

Vinnie! Andre Brown has looked good. Good burst, speed and can catch out of the backfield. Giants haven't done any tackling yet so we haven't seen Brown go full yet. But he could develop into that guy who can catch out of the backfield on third downs. He has a battle with D.J. Ware on his hands. As for Beckum, he has a sore hamstring and didn't practice on Tuesday. Team taking it real slow. He says he will be fine, just wants to be careful.

Matt (Albany, NY)

Heard Nicks is heading to NYC for more test results on the knee. is getting a second opinion mean bad news? What do you know so far?

Ohm
  (3:05 PM)

Good news Matt, Nicks is fine. Team says he could even practice tomorrow. Check out the story: http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=5437075

Kelvin A. (Queens, NY)

with Ross healthy now and Terrell T. coming off a strong season, can you say that the Giants have the best CB tandem in the Beast, possibly the NFC?

Ohm
  (3:06 PM)

Kelvin, don't get carried away homeboy. Come on now. Best tandem in the NFC? Webster will start on one side and TT or Ross on the other. I think they will have a solid trio there but not sure about the best in the conference.

pcastro (FL)

yooo homieeee whats good ohm??? 2 Big question's first one what are your thoughts on bulluck and do you think he can hold down the middle while being a run stuffer. sencond when do you think kenny P will be a full time starter this season? My thoughts are they will ease him into the first 3 to 4 games to get his knee and body back into game mode. what you think

Ohm
  (3:09 PM)

PCastro... what's going on in Fla? I like the Bulluck move a lot. Provided his surgically-repaired ACL is good to go (he's seven-months removed) then I think he will bring much-needed leadership and experience in the middle. Goff can continue to grow and be groomed. This defense needs leadership and veteran experience. As for KP, the team expects him to be the starter this season. We got to see how his knee responds later in camp. And if not, Deon Grant will start until KP comes back.

Jetfan82 (PA)

Im not gonna bog ya down with jets questions since you have been at giants camp all day...but one thought dude you were killing tweeter today...I told Rich he needed to keep the jet fan update to date like you and the g fans...i got no reply.

Ohm
  (3:10 PM)

Hey kid! Well, Rich is VERY BUSY at Jets camp. Got a lot going on there. Today we were mad busy as well. I tried to transcribe as much Osi as I could and get that out there because his quotes were really interesting. Check out the Osi story in case you guys missed it: http://sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/news/story?id=5436994

Alex Rodriguez (Steroid Nation)

Did you see my accomplishment today? Yawn*

Ohm
  (3:11 PM)

A-God, I just heard not too long ago. Keep jacking them out and dating hot blondes.

Ryan (NY)

Hypothetical for you: If you could have a golf foursome with you, Mateen Cleaves, Plaxico Burress, and Stefan Edberg, but your caddy was Snooki, would you play?

Ohm
  (3:11 PM)

R... where'd you come up with this one? LOL. I would definitely play. Are you kidding me? Snookster would keep things very entertaining.

Lensky (Columbus, OH)

Hey Ohm which wide receivers do you have the giants keeping on the active roster when the season starts?

Ohm
  (3:14 PM)

Lensky... tough question... let's see: Smith, Nicks, Manningham, Barden, S. Moss, D. Hagan. Calhoun, T. Brown and Jennings' chances of sticking depends on special teams.

Kelvin A. (Queens, NY)

if Jacobs has another sub par season, can we see him being released at the end of the year?? Its clear that Bradshaw holds more value...

Ohm
  (3:14 PM)

K, remains to be seen. Not out of the question. But this is definitely a year when the Giants want to see if Jacobs-Bradshaw can really work if healthy.

Ryan (Germantown, MD)

Whats the good word Ohm? Thank goodness Nicks is ok. Has anything in camp surprised you so far?

Ohm
  (3:16 PM)

Ryan, hot enough down there for you in MD? Has anything surprised me? Hmm... Moss has been pretty solid thus far in camp. But I wouldn't call that too surprising. I really haven't been shocked by anything. It's been slow. Giants trying to take things slow. I guess Steve Smith catching a few deep balls and beating C. Webster, that might be a little surprising to me. They've been battling.

Jeremy (Rockland)

Ohm... How's Albany??? Im actually a grad from there and hope that your enjoying your time... question, are Nicks and Smith a bill gates version of Toomer and Hilliard?

Ohm
  (3:18 PM)

Hey Jeremy, a Bill Gates' version of Toomer and Hilliard meaning a newer, more hi-tech version? I think Smith could end up being better than Hilliard, who had too many injuries. I see where you are coming from though. Smith already has the best season ever by a Giants receiver. Nicks is more explosive than Toomer. And you have to hope that he will be a bit more consistent than Toomer, who early on was up and down at times.

Mike (NJ)

Ohm- thank god Nicks is ok...how has Sintim looked in camp so far? JPP, Osi, Tuck, Kiwinuka, Sintim, and Boley could provide some pass rush on 3rd downs.

Ohm
  (3:19 PM)

Mikey, Sintim has been alright. Hard to tell really because no contact. But the defense looks like it has stuffed the run a lot. I agree with you on the pass rush on third downs. Boley's coverage skills will be big too.

Will (Louisville, KY)

How has Perry Fewell done these first days, and do the players seem to like him?

Ohm
  (3:20 PM)

Will, Perry Fewell is the loudest dude on the field. If he feels the energy is lacking, he will get in the defense's face and scream at them until they do what he wants. And when there is a pick-six or something like that, he will sprint into end zone with his players in the convoy of blockers. He is very energetic. I think the team likes him so far. The defense's swagger looks like it is coming back.

Mickey (NY)

Props for having the most entertaining chat on ESPN

Ohm
  (3:21 PM)

Mickey, not even close homeboy. I am sure there are other writers on here and celebs who do their thing. But I try. Hell, we haven't even gone to one of my strengths which is giving dating advice. LOL!

ryan (stevens point,wisconsin)

is favre really retiring or is it just another fake?

Ohm
  (3:23 PM)

Ryan from Wisc! I wouldn't believe the hype. In my mind, and I like Brett Favre, #4 doesn't go through surgery and doesn't keep working out if he doesn't want to return. Now could his ankle really be hurting? Yes. But I think let's wait until later in camp to see. And even if he doesn't come back in camp, I wouldn't count the dude out for coming back a few games into the season. He loves football and wants to win and the Vikings are built to win.

mofunky77 (Nyack, NY)

What do you thinkk of the Jets this year? They talk WAY to much for a 9-7 team. The IT team never wins! Go Blue!!!

Ohm
  (3:24 PM)

Mofunky... I feel you on the IT team thing. The Jets have a mad hard schedule as well. A lot of pressure on my man Sanchise. A lot. I love Rex Ryan and I love the swag coming from the Green. But I can see the Jets faltering. Expectations are insane. One thing is sure: it will be a very entertaining season.

Hanbone (Ft. Lauderdale)

How has Beatty looked in camp so far? Does he crack the starting lineup come week 1?

Ohm
  (3:25 PM)

Hanbone, too early to tell. I think Beatty has to outwork Diehl and Seubert. Going to be difficult but he has the talent. Those dudes don't go down without a heck of a fight. Diehl will start no matter what, either at tackle or guard. Seubert, though, is the epitome of gritty... think Scott Skiles gritty.

Will (Louisville)

Ohm, now that antonio pierce is gone, is there anyone on the defense beginning to step up as a leader. Boley? Bullock? Tuck? Umenyiora?

Ohm
  (3:27 PM)

Will, I think Tuck knows he has to take on more of a leadership role. Coughlin has asked him to do so. Bulluck and Antrel Rolle are two prime candidates to step in and be more of a leader but they have to transition into a new team first. Tuck needs to be the guy initially since he has the experience, the time put in and the talent. Her's also accountable and talks to the media the most which is something a leader has to do.

Jeremy (Rockland)

Ohm, I notice that Kevin Boss took a lot of big hits last year, mainly because he was always standing, are the Giants coaching staff working with him on staying low? I kno its tough cuz he's tall but I don't want to see him take that kind of punishment again..thanks

Ohm
  (3:27 PM)

J, yeah he took a lot of shots and I am sure he will try to avoid as many as he can. But the Giants just need him to make sure he is back healthy again. He is practicing once a day and I think he will be fine.

Devon (DC)

Notorious! What's the deal man? Do you think Hagan can get decent playing time this season? I love the guy's game but the G Men are pretty stacked at wideout.

Ohm
  (3:30 PM)

Devon! From my hometown of DC. What's crackin? Let me tell you all something about Hagan... this dude NEVER drops a pass. I mean, the other day he did have a ball jarred out by DB B. Johnson. But I mean, this guy catches everything. He's got crazy hands. Very solid receiver. Not super explosive but catches everything.

person29 (iowa)

how important is shonn greene to jets

Ohm
  (3:31 PM)

Are you related to Chuck Person? The Rifleman was the bomb! Shonn Greene is very important. LT will be a good backup and a good third-down back. But Greene is the workhorse. His punishing style though opens him up to taking a lot of hits. And you know, you saw him at Iowa, homeboy never runs out of bounds. He takes the hit first. I think he will be big. Jets just need to keep him healthy.

Mickey (NY)

Lets test out your dating advice - if a first date is going badly, is it ok to leave her at the restaurant and stick her with the bill? I say yes

Ohm
  (3:32 PM)

Mick, come on man. I actually am old school so I believe in paying. But as long as the woman makes an effort to reach for her purse. That's all I'm asking. She won't pay but show me that you are not there just for the meal. Even if the first date goes awful, you kinda have to pay.

Ryan (Germantown, MD)

For petes sake! I thought this would be a refuge from Favre talk!

Ohm
  (3:33 PM)

#4 lives forever! 4ever!

Will (Louisville)

Any cool rookie stories yet? and which rookies are looking strong?

Ohm
  (3:34 PM)

JPP said he had to stand up before team and announce his name, what school he went to and his contract numbers. He has carried helmets back from the field as well. The anti-Dez if you will.

Jeremy (Rockland)

Ohm, to me it likes Travis Beckham has a Dallas Clark type build.... do you see him being an effective downfield receiver in the seams? Thanks...

Ohm
  (3:34 PM)

J, Beckum has that talent. But he's not in that system. I am sure he would love to be. Got to run good routes and got to block better. Has to be more consistent to get playing time.

Marc (Charlotte)

When at the helm of the grill, are you using Charcoal or gas?

Ohm
  (3:36 PM)

Personally, I like charcoal. My apartment complex only allows for electric though. Go figure. Charcoal is the way to go.

Billy (DC)

If the guy is supposed to pay, what happens if it's an "alternative couple?"

Ohm
  (3:36 PM)

Never thought about that. That's a good question. I guess the guy who was the one who asked the other out would make sense to me.

Kelvin A. (Queens, NY)

how many games to the giants win this year? I dont think the NFC east championship and 12 games is out the question

Ohm
  (3:37 PM)

I predicted them to win 10 games this season. Second in NFC East. They could win 11 too. And they could only win 7. A lot of question marks.

Ryan (NY)

FYI I came up with that Snooki question because I drink in the morning

Ohm
  (3:38 PM)

Love me some Snooki.

Matt W (Clifton Park)

Word on the street Plax gets out 2-3 weeks. Will the Giants re-sign him to have the best WR corp out there? PALEASE!

Ohm
  (3:40 PM)

Matt, I asked Jerry Reese that and he said he didn't know when Plax will be released. Who knows when that will happen for sure. But he did say, like he usually does with most free agent issues, that the team will take a look at everything and every scenario. Remember, before Plax can return, he might be suspended by the Commissioner for who knows how long. Then he has to get back into playing shape. And judging by some of the guys who have gone to jail and played again, the legs seem to go a bit. Look at Jamal Lewis and Mike Vick, they just weren't the same runners after jail. With all that being said, you know me... I love Plax and I believe he deserves a second chance and will get it from somebody.

Ed Hochuli (Chat Ref)

Ohm, that's a personal foul for your use of the phrase "4ever". That's a direct breach of chat ettiquete. 15 yards and we'll repeat 1st down.

Ohm
  (3:41 PM)

Is that a real call or did you make a mistake? Love Ed Hercules though. You all should know, 4 is my FAVORITE number. So I will be using it a lot.

Billy (DC)

More wins this year - Donovan's old team or new team?

Ohm
  (3:42 PM)

Geez B, you putting me on the spot. That is a really tough one. I can see the Eagles finishing ahead of the Redskins. I just think Reid knew something to trade Donovan to Washington. But you know what... I'll go with Redskins, slightly over Eagles.

Will (Louisville)

seen any albert haynesworths out there?

Ohm
  (3:44 PM)

Will, Gartrell Johnson struggled toward the end of the team's conditioning test on Sunday. Surprising for a running back. Coughlin says the team is in shape. Nobody reported overweight. Take a look at my Giants blog and you will see the Gartrell moment.

Billy (DC)

Curious what the dating expert thinks of the phrase "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas"

Ohm
  (3:44 PM)

I've only been to Vegas once. And it was to see a Pacquiao fight and I loved it. Haven't had the true Vegas party outing yet.

Jc (Clearwater, FL)

Ohm. The Giants are flying under the radar which is how they like it but that's among the media how do you feel the Giants are perceived around football among players and coaches. If they are taking them lightly they are going to be surprised.

Ohm
  (3:45 PM)

I don't think players or teams around the league take anybody lightly. Or at least they won't tell you that on the record. They know the Giants are a solid team. But look, they went 8-8 last year and suffered a serious meltdown. There's good reason for people to be sleeping on the Giants.

Devon (DC)

do you think the Deon Grant signing has been pretty underrated both in local & national media?

Ohm
  (3:46 PM)

D, yes, Grant has become a bit of a leader in a short time. The coaches rave about him non-stop. He and Rolle have been pretty good together so far. And if KP isn't ready, Grant will be solid.

Jeremy (Rockland)

Ohm, would it serve the Giants better in the long term of the season to have a rotation at offensive line? I know chemistry is important but so is health and Kareem has a lot of miles on his legs and Richie S had that bad leg injury not too long ago...

Ohm
  (3:47 PM)

I hear what you are saying but you need continuity on the line. Same five has to play together and be cohesive. Let the best five play. Get the other guys ready to fill in.

Ohm
  (3:49 PM)

Alright guys, thanks for stopping by the chat. Gotta run and write. I will have a Q&A with Jerry Reese up soon... Stop by the site later.

Ohm
  (3:49 PM)

One final response...

Snooki (Jersey Shore)

I love you too Ohm!
