What's up chatters. Off to The Glen this weekend for some road racing and a chance for Ambrose to make amends.
please tell me marcos is not going back to australia! he's grown on me so much that he's my favorite driver!
Listening to him yesterday, I got the feeling he's staying in the good old USA. I'd be shocked if he doesn't end up at RPM.
How much money will it cost the Austin group to build that F1 track, pits, grandstands, parking, media center etc?
I'm guessing at least $250 million to do it the way F1 would make them do it. Not exactly chump change.
What are your thoughts on Kevin Harvick winning the championship this year? Can he do it? Why? or Why not?
Yes he can, but I don't think he will. I still think JJ and Hamlin are the favorites once the Chase starts.
Terry, I always wondered, does anyone ever get hurt with those lug nuts that are just laying around on the ground after pit stops when the drivers burn their tires out of the pits? They must throw a few up behind then!
Yes and Yes. Guys get hit with those things and it causes a nasty bruise. The big fear is someone getting hit in the eye, but I don't think that's ever happened.
who do you think will run for rookie of the year in 2011 in sprint cup?
Probably Justin Allgaier. Not sure who else at this point.
Hey Terry, Thanks for the chat. Now that Gateway has cancelled their Nationwide and Truck events for next year, what venues do you see getting those race dates??????
I'm not sure any track gets them. There's talk they may reduce the NW sked.
so allgaier is going cup racing next year?
Not definitely, but Ithink it's possible. And Hornish may go back to IndyCar.
If Bruton Smith does the jerk move and takes away a race from Loudon, any chance the IRL will finally go back there?
The IRL is going back there next year for a race in July. And I don't think NH is losing a Cup race. I think Kentucky's race will come from Atlanta.
Any chance Indy replaces ORP on the NNS schedule?
That's looking likely, although I'm not sure it's a good decision. ORP is great short-track racing, a lot better than we will see at IMS.
Why do they need another cookie-cutter track on the schedule? What are they trying to lose the rest of the fans. Need more short-tracks on the schedule not 1.5 mile tracks. Also, who is your top 10 for this weekend? Thanks
I agree it would be good to have more races on track of a mile or less, but the problem is most of those tracks are in bad locations and most 1.5-mile ovals are in large markets. ISC wanted to build shorter new tracks in Seattle, Denver and New York, but couldn't get the public funding it wanted to do it. But I would look to see a Cup race in Iowa.
Two part question. What would your ideal NSCS schedule be? And is there any chance Pocono may get a NNS race. I heard the cable ratings for Sunday were the highest all year.
My ideal sked would have one on Cup race at each track, but there aren't enough quality facilities to do that. I would cut the sked to 32 races and eliminate one race at Pocono, Dover, Martinsville and Fontana.
How many more rides do you see John Menard buying for Paul?
I realize Paul takes a lot of abuse for spending the old man's money, but Paul is far from the worst driver out there in Cup. He rarely tears up equipment and ranks ahead of eight guys who have started all 21 events this year.
Do you think Darrian and Tony have turned the corner @ SHR? Performance seems to be up.
Tony is having his usual mid-summer surge, and it could continue on Sunday with a win at The Glen, which is his best track. I think the 14 team has improved over the last few weeks, but I'm not sure if they are championship level yet.
Is it time for Ganassi to have a "cookies and milk" meeting with Montoya and Brian Pattie?
I'm guessing that happened on Tuesday. They have some issues, but I don't know if it's so bad Chip needs to split them up.
Do you see Denny ever leaving JGR?
Ever is a long time, but not in the foreseeable future.
What is the latest news on Paul Menard for 2011????? I agree with your earlier statement about him. He is better than several bigger name drivers on the circuit.
I think Paul will drive a fourth car at RCR next season.
"If you build it they will come" we have a huge country that somewhere they could find to put a awsome short track! if a major market is what they want just rip up that track in L.A and build a short track! they did it in vegas when they redid it. and now that vegas track is awsome! so if money bags smith really wants to do it he can!
No one is spending $200 million or more right now to build a racetrack Josh, except maybe the F1 deal in Austin.
Why cant Bobby Labonte find a decent ride in the right equipment he could regain that championship form.
He's getting a decent ride next year in the 47 Toyota, but his championship days are over.
True or False: Sam Hornish Jr. needed it to rain harder when he was in the lead after staying out to be able to race full time in NSCS next year.
Even if Sam had won Sunday because of rain, I don't think it would have any impact on his fate.
most loyal owner in nascar today?
Loyal to whom?
Is it possible that Jr. could be out of the 88 to make room for Kahne next year?
For the 1,000th time, no. That is not possible.
Any chance NASCAR is going to listen to the fans on more short tracks on the schedule if they speak out, like they did with GWC, Double file restarts etc.. Any chance SMI or ISC will build new short tracks in Seattle, Denver and NY when the economic times are better?
When the economy is better, absolutely. But here's the rub Mike. ISC wants a truck load of public money to build new tracks. Not gonna happen. That's why they couldn't get it done in Seattle. Heck, the state wouldn't even put up the money to build a new arena for the Sonics, much less a race track. If ISC wants to spend it's own money, no prob. But it doesn't. And Bruton's debt load right now is huge after buying NH and Kentucky.
Terry - any chance they adjust dates to accomodate weather? My favorite track is Martinsville but you need a snow suit for the March race
I hear at least nine dates are changing, so maybe that's one of them. We should know before the end of this month.
has the new father thing hit JJ like it did Jeff
No question that having a child changes you. JJ probably is getting a little less sleep these days, but I don't think the new baby will keep him from contending for that fifth title.
If Dale jr gets another 27th at the Glen and Martin and Boyer beat him will it be time to write him off for the season?
If MM and Bowyer finish in the top 5 and Junior finishes that low, his Chase chances are remote.
of all the drivers in under funded teams, who is the best driver in your opinoin?
Good question. It kind of depends on what you mean by under-funded, but I'd say Regan Smith. And thank you for your service to our country, Olin.
Better road course driver Bowyer or Martin. Who gets the better finish out of the 2
Probably Mark. It's been a pretty decent road racer for a long time.
Who do you see being Nascar's fuel injection supplier? McLaren, Bosch, or someone else?
Ron Dennis being at Indy probably was a clue on that one.
with all the sucess this year for red-bulls f-1 team ( witch didnt happen over night) when will we see the same sucess in cup? do they spend more resources in f-1?
Way more in F1. It's two differnt animals, but the Red Bull Cup team has a long way to go. I think Jay Frye is doing the best he can getting through a difficult situation with Vickers' illness.
Why would you take a race from Martinsville. The racing there is great. You should take a snnozefest gas mileage race from Michigan first.
I'd be fine with one race at Michigan also. Honestly, I think Martinsville racing is a bit overrated. It's very difficult to pass there, but there is a lotof bumping and banging, which fans love. But it's a rural location that's hard to get to and sponsors don't want to be there twice a year.
Do you see NASCAR bringing back Rockingham or North Wilkesboro?
Not for Cup, but maybe for a truck race.
Dinger stays at RPM and sounds like Ambrose to RPM as well. Where will Sadler go?
Not sure on Elliott, but what a turnaround for RPM. Two months ago a lot of folks wondered if the team would survive. AJ had a his little screaming match with the King and everyone thought AJ was leaving. Now he's staying and they're probably getting Marcos. Things are looking up at RPM.
any word if that Sadler hit was among the hardest ever recorded in the black box? That was scary....
Elliott said NASCAR officials told him it was the hardest ever recorded, but NASCAR doesn't release the actual numbers. It's a real tribute t the safety advancements of the car and the HANS that he walked away.
Okay - The second most asked question next to will Jr. win this weekend. Any thoughts on where Kasey will be next year?
I'm shocked this still is in limbo. It's really getting kind of crazy now. It I were Rick, I would put Kasey in the 5 and make other arrangement for Mark. I still think that's a possiblity.
Nascar said, "have at it boys" so how come Joey hasn't paid back Harvick or Kurt gotten Jimmie or Juan Pablo and Sadler paid back Gordon? Looks like only Carl is policing on the race track.
Thanks goodness no one else is doing what Carl has done. The truth is that payback stuff doesn't happen as much as people think because driver's have too much to lose when points are on the line.
Maybe Hendrick could help Mark start his own team for next year to make room for Kahne?
I think you're on to something there Andrew.
would you do more chats if you could?
I enjoy the chats because I get a feel for what fans are thinking about. But we have a lot of guys to get in each week. And we also have our live chats during the race each week.
Do you see Nascar going back to racing on A1A and the beach at Daytona?
You know better Donald. Maybe a foot race in the sand between Carl and Brad K.
To bring in Mercedes, Hyundi, Nissan, BMW etc. into Nascar why don't they use the IRL model and allow manufacturers to build only body kits?
There is no proof yet the IRL model is going to bring in other manufacturers.
I noticed Aric Almirola was in Jeff Gordon's pit box on Sunday. Does this mean that Aric may be getting a more permanent Nationwide series ride with Hendrick aka JRM?
No. Aric is the pregnancy sub for Hendrick. He was on standby for JJ and last week for Jeff. But Scott Pruett is Jeff's stand-by driver this weekend if Ingrid's calls from the delivery room. Aric has done agreat job in trucks this year and should get another chance in Cup soon.
Do you think its possible that Nascar will ad a road coarse to the Chase?
Possibly, but not likely. The Glen would need to be in Sept. or it might be too cold. Sonoma could do it any time.
Do you think AA could replace JG when he retires?
Way too early for that speculation. A lot of people in line to get a Hendrick ride, including Danica.
what is up with jeff gordon this year?
He's racing well, but he's been snakebit on getting to Victory Lane. It will happen soon.
Can Bobby Labonte be competitive in the 47 and is that a good ride for him.
I think it's a great ride for him. He can post some top 10s in that car next year. Way better than what he has endured this year.
Gotta run folks. Good chat today. I've got to pack for the trip to Watkins Glen. Then I'm headed to ESPN headquarters to do the NASCAR Now roundtable show Monday. Have a great week. Peace.
