Chat with Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
  (11:56 PM)

Greetings Fight Freaks and welcome to the RAD chat. Quite a night with Pascal pulling the upset in impressive fashion and down goes Dawson and his perfect record. Let's get it on! I hop you followed me on Twitter throughout the fight @danrafaelespn. Let's get to it!

Charles (Redding)

Rematch or Cloud v Pascal?likely in Montreal?

Dan Rafael
  (11:56 PM)

Pascal can take an interim fight before any rematch clause can be invoked, so we shall see.

Joe (Chicago)

Bring on Bute-Pascal. That's a fight even us guys in the States want to see!

Dan Rafael
  (11:56 PM)

Love it. If it happens, I'm there.

Mitch (Oakland)

I did not any significant urgency in Chad's corner. Who are they kidding? Especially given that he CAN take it up a notch given a little more risk taking, who are they kidding? Just waiting for a final round plea?

Dan Rafael
  (11:57 PM)

Eddie Mustafa Muhammad had urgency. His fighter didn't.

Mark (Hoffman)

What a joke. 108-101 and 106-103? Really? Ineffective aggression at its finest. This was a great screw job by the Canadians. What a joke.

Dan Rafael
  (11:57 PM)

You're a joke. Pascal won the fight and won easily. I had it 106-103 and could have had another round for him as well that I went with Dawson on. Very legit and good decision from the judges.

Raul Jr. (Everett, WA)

Mad props to Pascal for showing up but Im sorry, Chad Dawson lost that fight more than Pascal won... mad props and respect to Pascal though, he did what he had to do and won.

Josh (Falls Church)

I hate to ask questions like this, but does Dawson have "it"? Obviously, he's very talented - but does he have that instinct and that hunger to comeback and be one of the best? It's so frustrating to watch a guy not fight when he gets in the ring.

Dan Rafael
  (11:58 PM)

He lacks passion.

Slick (Philly)

Chad didn't show any killer instinct or championship heart. That fight was there to take over and over.

Dan Rafael
  (11:59 PM)

You are right.

Jim (NJ)

Do you think Dawson would've KO Pascal if the fight went on?

Dan Rafael
  (11:59 PM)

We'll never know but I do not think so. There is nothing in Dawson's resume to think he would score an 11th or 12th round knockout and Pascal has never even been down.

Trent (Chicago)

Hey Dan, I have to say I was not impressed with Dawson tonight. He got hit way too much and even when he had Pascal hurt he wouldn't step on the gas and get him out of there.

Dan Rafael
  (12:01 AM)

I don't think anyone was impressed with Dawson tonight. Had a bad night.

Aaron (Hartford)

Dan, do you remember when Pascal and Miranda were supposed to fight a couple of years ago...they got into a pretty heated war of words after their fights in FNF....you think that would be a good fight for Pascal before he possibly fights Dawson again... that would be very entertaining to say the least given the bad blood...

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 AM)

Maybe if Pascal wants a soft touch in his first defense. But I think that ship has sailed for now.

Jesse (El Mirage, Az)

Dannah Montana, love your round by round updates on Twitter. What do you think would happen in a rematch between Dawson & Pascal?

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 AM)

I haven't even absorbed the first fight yet. Haven't even thought about a rematch yet.

John (OH)

Nothing more funny and sad than Pascal bludgeoning Dawson with his forehead, and then celebrating the fact that the doctor stopped the fight. That's Canada, for ya.

Dan Rafael
  (12:05 AM)

Are you serious? Pascal won the fight and the head butt was an accident. Had nothing to do with Canada or any unfair officiating. Please.

Antonio Bermudez (Vienna, VA)

It's amazing Larry Merchant can stand there and repeatedly tell Chad Dawson he's making excuses. I think Dawson was trying hard to hold his feelings back.

Dan Rafael
  (12:06 AM)

In case you missed it, Chad WAS making excuses.

John (ny)

Fights are a lot more interesting when you get fans that are into it like Canada.

Dan Rafael
  (12:06 AM)

Montreal fans are awesome.

Jonathan (Atlanta)

Dan, do you think the problems with his manager and family affected Chads performance tonight? He seemed unfocused to me.

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 AM)

It's possible. Between trouble at home, trouble with the manager and, from what I am told, major financial issues, it's certainly possible.

Duff (Abington, MA)

I can't remember ever being more frustrated watching a fighter than I am watching Dawson right now. He is clearly the stronger and more talented fighter, but he has no killer instinct.

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 AM)

You're not the only one who thinks that. I got a call from Lou DiBella right after the fight screaming the same thing.

Shawn (Bronxille, NY)

CondomDepot.Com!?

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 AM)

Greatest ad ever on trunks.

Joe (NJ)

Wow. How did Pascal not go down from that uppercut in the 11th.

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 AM)

Don't know. Chad's best shot of the night and Pascal took it. He has heart.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Dan, Do you think after Arreola's FNF's performance last night that Ol' Evander is thinking......."even I could mop up the ring with him".....Mmmm?

Dan Rafael
  (12:10 AM)

Cris was not impressive at all even though he won going away.

Anthony M. (Killeen , TX)

This fight brought a whole new meaning to "Bad" Chad Dawson.

Erik (Austin, TX)

I'm not trying to say that Dawson could've pulled off something spectacular, but even as bad as the cut was, don't you let them finish the fight? It's halfway through the 11th round!

Dan Rafael
  (12:10 AM)

That was a really bad cut. The blood was dripping right into his eye it seemed. I am not going to second guess the doctor.

John (OH)

DTM, nobody said the butt was intentional. I just find it funny to watch someone go berserk in elation after seeing a doctor wave a fight off. Not exactly the most manly way to win. That's a Canadian for ya. I don't recall the Punisher doing backflips upon watching Cintron diving through the middle ropes onto the floor. Canada sucks, is basically what I'm saying.

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 AM)

He was excited because he knew he had WON the fight, whatever way it happened. The guy put in months of training, rehab from a major injury and just manhandled the best guy in the division. Give him a break. He was elated. And I don't freakin blame him.

michael (vancouver)

after his ringside meltdown do you think Shaw ever brings a fighter north of the border again? just some sour apples, anyone complaining about hometown decisions in another country should look at themselves in the mirror - foreign fighters coming to the US face exactly the same problems.

Dan Rafael
  (12:12 AM)

This was as far from a hometown decision as you can get. Pascal schooled Dawson regardless of if it was in Montreal or New Haven.

CRO (Binghamton, NY)

Its surprising how many freaks are here defending Chad (wrongly IMO) when the reason he is fighting in Canada is because he can't even draw flies...

dan (Brooklyn)

would love to see dawson take on cloud next - pascal take on bute - winners fight.

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 AM)

I can dig it.

Derek (edmonton, alberta)

Pascal kicked Dawson's ass all night, and still there are biased fans on here calling it a screw job. Please, after last week's fixed fights in St Lou, don't bash other countries.

Dan Rafael
  (12:13 AM)

I was with you for the first part of your comment and then thought you were an idiot for the second part.

Aaron (Milwaukee)

Dan - why the heck did Chad take this fight in MONTREAL? I mean, he's the undefeated champ... he should fight on HIS turf... i think that was crazy!

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 AM)

He can't draw flies to a dump so he had to go on the road where the money was.

michael (vancouver)

anyone who watched pascal's loss to froch already knows he has a granite chin. Dawson does not have anywhere near the same type of pop that Froch does!

Dan Rafael
  (12:15 AM)

Exactly. He has a great chin and a big heart, which he showed fighting with a dislocated shoulder in the Diaconu rematch. Let's give Pascal some credit. He was an Olympian, lost only once to Froch in a great and competitive fight and beat Diaconu twice and now Dawson.

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 AM)

I want to remind the Freaks to please follow me on Twitter @danrafaelespn.

Greg P (Staten Island,NY)

Dan, any bigger $$$ fight at 175 than Bute/Pascal in montreal?

Dan Rafael
  (12:16 AM)

Nope, it's HUGE.

Michael (Long Beach, CA)

I am so pissed off at Chad Dawson. He should have taken this guy out. He is pound for pound physically, but not mentally.

Marcus (Ohio)

not that impressed with anyone at 175. I think Hopkins could still beat them all...even WITH his walker and oxygen tank

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 AM)

LOL!

Joe (Stamford, CT)

Larry kind of pooh-poohed the quality of the fight in his post-fight stand-up, but I disagree with him. I rather enjoyed it. Pascal's fun to watch. Where do you stand?

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 AM)

I like watching Pascal. Chad has been quite frustrating to watch.

Phil (CA)

Do you think recovering from the injury in the previous fight had an effect on Pascal's conditioning this fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 AM)

I don't think so. He looked in great shape.

Ali (Tampa)

Thoughts on Arreola acting all heartfelt to the media about getting in better shape, and then showing up at a sloppy 256?

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 AM)

It is what it is. That is who Cris is.

Steve (Hawaii)

Props to Pascal for fighting a smart fight, and the scores were right on the mark. That said, I was really disappointed with Dawson. I expected better. And sour grapes after the fight, headbutts as an excuse.

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 AM)

Honestly, I didn't even see many head butts at all and if there were it goes both ways.

Dan Rafael
  (12:21 AM)

By the way, Golovkin just destroyed Nunez to win some crappy WBA middleweight belt. But impressive performance from Golovkin. Just was watching it.

Dan Rafael
  (12:23 AM)

Why does Dawson deserve a rematch? I mean if they have a contract for one that is one thing but he doesn't "deserve" one. He lost a legit decision and that is that. Of course, Pascal-Bute is a massive fight in Montreal and I would love to see it.

Sean (Centreville, VA)

Do you think that Eddie Mustafa Muhammad should have insisted from round 1 on for Dawson to dig into Pascal's body. Pascal seemed vulnerable to those shots.

Dan Rafael
  (12:23 AM)

I agree. Dawson did land some nice body shots.

Stanley (Qc)

Hi from Qc! It was a great fight and Pascal deserves it !

Dan Rafael
  (12:24 AM)

Quebec in the house!

Flowerly Punches (Puerto Rico)

I think Chad hurt his shoulder during the fight. But after being called out by Larry Merchant for making excuses, he didn't dare say it when asked about it. Pascal is a very enterteining fighter.

Dan Rafael
  (12:24 AM)

Pascal has been in several entertaining fights.

mike (costa rica)

DAN, if williams-martinez rematch happens have u heard where it might be??

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 AM)

It is getting very close to being made for Nov. 20 but no site as of yet that I am aware of.

Dan Rafael
  (12:27 AM)

Kim got easily outboxed by Vazquez from what I am told, although I have it recording right now and have not seen it yet. And Mikey Garcia stopped Lock in the 11th to become Rojas' WBC mandatory at 126.

Ron (OH)

BHOP predicted in his ESPN.com chat that James Toney will get "one or two legs broken" in his UFC fight later this month. Pretty funny prediction.

Dan Rafael
  (12:28 AM)

As opposed to three?

Dan Rafael
  (12:29 AM)

Moreno-Cermeno 2 can be seen here: http://tvmax-9.com/envivo.asp

Dan Rafael
  (12:30 AM)

Can't disagree and it's an easy trip for me to make -- three hours in the car.

Rob (Denton, Tx)

You watching Gacia-Lock right now ?

Dan Rafael
  (12:30 AM)

It is recording.

Mike (Pa)

You said you were on the bat phone with Lou any update about berto in Brooklyn

Dan Rafael
  (12:30 AM)

No, he was too busy ranting and raving about Dawson until I told him to STFU.

Homer (OH)

Emmanuel's insistence that Pascal was so tired bothered me. He wasn't Pacquiao in there, but Steward made it seem like Pascal was ready to go after every round.

Dan Rafael
  (12:31 AM)

I didn't know what Manny was seeing but I didn't see a guy who was tired.

Rob (Denton, Tx)

Thanks to kill my buzz Dan. I am watching the FSN card right now with no idea the results, so thanks.

Dan Rafael
  (12:32 AM)

Hey beware in the chats. We talk about everything. It's your problem not mine. Next time watch the fights first and then show up. Maybe all boxing news should be put on hold until poor Robbie sees the fights?

Johnathan (Montreal)

Hi from Montreal!! WWOOO!! What a fight!!!! Montreal is now the boxing capital of the world at the moment with Pascal, Bute and Lemieux! WOW i'm so proud to be a montrealer!

Dan Rafael
  (12:33 AM)

Enjoy it. I love Montreal!

Dan Rafael
  (12:34 AM)

He doesn't DESERVE a rematch. Hurting a guy and losing does not mandate a rematch. He may get one because of the contract but it's not like anything controversial happened or the decision was out of line. Pascal did dominate him for the most part as far as I am concerned (and, apparently, the judges too).

Dan Rafael
  (12:35 AM)

By the way -- courtesy of the Bat Email, with Vazquez winning a 135 belt tonight and Top Rank also having Soto and Acosta I was told by somebody from the company to look out for a mini-lightweight tournament.

Dan Rafael
  (12:36 AM)

Thank you for the sanity.

Joe (NJ)

IMO i can see a completely different fight the next time around. Not saying Dawson will win, but perhaps a lot more active.

Charles (DFW)

If all news were put on hold until Robbie saw the fights, he might get greedy and charge us a sanctioning fee to begin.

Greg P (Staten Island,NY)

Dan, imagine if a prime Bob Foster had an undefeated and unmotivated Chad Dawson (who is also in his prime)in front of him in a major fight....I think Bad Chad might have his head removed from his body!Thoughts?

Dan Rafael
  (12:38 AM)

Foster would knock Dawson and Pascal out on the same night.

Joe (NJ)

How far does Dawson slip in your thoughts if you cant mention the P4P of division top 10 yet.

Dan Rafael
  (12:39 AM)

New P4P comes out on Wednesday so I will figure it out.

DeMarcus Black (Las Vegas, NV)

The Top Rank incest continues...but I won't complain -- a tournament in any division is always a good thing...

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 AM)

Seeing as they have three guys with belts what's the issue?

Charles (DFW)

I think what Keiran meant Dan was that Dawson had Pascal in a vulnerable position when the fight was stopped. Even if it wasn't controversial in the classical sense, it does leave a sense of unfinished business.

Dan Rafael
  (12:40 AM)

I do not agree at all.

Dan Rafael
  (12:41 AM)

By the way, I am not saying I am opposed to a rematch. I am saying it is not like it's a MUST.

Joe (Stamford, CT)

Couldn't agree with you more about the irrelevance of the proposed Pac-Magarito 24/7. I can hear Liev Schrieber's voiceover now; "A fighter's routine never varies. Antonio Margarito is no exception. Wake up, jump rope. Run 6 miles. Load the gloves. Hit the heavy bag. All in a day's work."

Dan Rafael
  (12:41 AM)

Classic.

Dustin (Nashville)

Dan you were a bit swayed by the crowd. Pascal was winning but he did not school Dawson. Bad Chad will get his revenge no doubt. Pascal is very fun to watch though, looking forward to the all montreal match next

Dan Rafael
  (12:41 AM)

Seeing as though I watched the fight in my living room I would have to disagree.

w.smith (Portland)

Awesome freak night with underrated title fights tonight.

stephen (arkansas)

Dawson or Pascal vs a prime Roy Jones???? thought??

Dan Rafael
  (12:44 AM)

Please. Roy beats them both.

Dwight (Paris, Texas)

Will this help Chad in the long run

Dan Rafael
  (12:45 AM)

Definitely not because his days of getting tons of money from HBO are probably gone for awhile if not forever. He may very well be back on HBO but at a greatly reduced number and that is not good for him in the long run.

c esar (chicago)

moreno fight is on!! Moreno won the first round. Thanx for the link!

Dan Rafael
  (12:46 AM)

You got it. I am hear to help the Freaks.

Charles (DFW)

Of all the light heavies, to me Cloud actually looks the strongest. It would be interesting to see how an eventual Cloud-Pascal fight plays out.

Dan Rafael
  (12:48 AM)

One thing is for sure -- that would be a really good, physical fight.

Derek (edmonton, alberta)

Playing Devil's advocate here: but what's to say Pascal wouldn't have KO'd Dawson in the 12th if the fight had gone on? Pascal buckled Dawson's knees several times during the fight.I do feel Chad would win a rematch, but I want to see Bute/Pascal first !

Dan Rafael
  (12:48 AM)

Yeah so? We can only go by WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED which is Pascal winning in fairly dominant fashion.

stephen (arkansas)

I thoiught RJ would beat them both as well. thanks for answering

Dave (NJ)

Dan how tired are you of seeing Cristian Favela, Adolfo Landeros, and Benji Garcia on Golden Boy cards every month being beaten over and over again.. When will their fight cards get better?

Dan Rafael
  (12:50 AM)

They are like the three muskateers of journeyman opponents. When they are on the card you already know the outcome, although Favela did give Martinez some trouble last night. But when see any of them, I know I can pretty much turn the channel.

British Petroleum (BP) (Gulf of Mexico)

We could've stopped Dawson's bleeding tonight........by November at the very least.

Dan Rafael
  (12:50 AM)

Probably sooner than Sid Brumback.

Brandon (Houston)

Did Froch really beat Pascal convincingly???

Dan Rafael
  (12:53 AM)

He won the fight, no doubt, but it was very competitive and it was one of the fights of the year.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Dan, Having mentioned the legendary Bob Foster in tonight's RAD I have to ask........who do you got in a Foster vs RJJ fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:54 AM)

I think Foster would have eventually knocked Roy into another decade. Bob Foster was a GREAT light heavyweight with the heaviest hands maybe in division history. He was tall and long and could BANG.

Hugo (Montreal)

Dawson is really talented but the heart is part of the skillset of a great fighter...we'll see what he will do in the rematch. Pascal deserves credit from the freaks, and thank you Dan for saying what happened as you saw it.

Anthony (Montreal)

Why do people think Dawson was coming back and hurting Pascal? Pascal wasn't hurt once in this fight and Dawson drained a lot of energy in that 11th round anyway.

Dan Rafael
  (12:55 AM)

I agree. Chad hurt him in the 11th, Pascal survived the storm and that was it.

CARL (NJ)

Dan, I CAN"T STAND RJJ, and even *I* say he destroys Pascal and Dawson.

Dan Rafael
  (12:56 AM)

No, Pascal doesn't have the power or speed of Jones and does not remind me of him at all.

Scott (Staten Island)

Was it just me, or did Bute have that ear to ear smile on his face at ringside that said, "I could destroy either one of these guys"?

Dan Rafael
  (12:56 AM)

I think he knows he's going to make a TON of money if he fights Pascal.

Mario Mungia (Corpus Christi, Texas)

Dan if you don't answer my question does it count as my streak of 3 weeks broken?

Dan Rafael
  (12:57 AM)

No.

Randy (NYC)

"Definitely not because his days of getting tons of money from HBO are probably gone for awhile if not forever." Really? He lost 1 fight, regardless of how bad he looked. He could bounce back even better with a big win in his next fight. I'm not a Dawson fan, but I don't think it's the end of the line for him

Dan Rafael
  (12:58 AM)

I am not saying Chad's career is over. Not at all. But HBO, if it puts him on again, isn't going to pay the absurd money it has paid him under the contract it had with him.

Robert (Albuquerque)

Dan, saw Bob Foster the other day in town, what a nice guy always takes time out for ths fans

Dan Rafael
  (12:59 AM)

I met Bob at the Jones-Ruiz fight several years ago when the promotion brought him in to talk to the media about light heavys fighting heavys (as Roy was doing) and he was a true pleasure to meet and talk to. A class guy.

Jimmy (Arlington, Va)

Who wins Pascal vs Bute?

Dan Rafael
  (12:59 AM)

I'm not really sure. I love the matchup. I like Pascal's physical style and determination and chin but I think Bute is slicker and quicker. Love the match.

Rob (Brooklyn,NY)

Any word on a postponement of Ward Vs. Dirrell

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 AM)

Nothing official.

jim (nyc)

C'mon, Pascal was clearly stung by that uppercut in the 11th. Not saying that he was on his way out, or that Dawson even would've followed it up, but he was clearly hurt.

Dan Rafael
  (1:01 AM)

Who said he wasn't hurt? He was. But Dawson backed off and never tried to finish him.

Dominick Guinn (Arkansas)

I thought Chad Dawson fought with a lot of passion tonight!

Dan Rafael
  (1:01 AM)

Pay the man, Shirley!

Dullah (Alabama)

Any Zab news???

Dan Rafael
  (1:01 AM)

Will be back in the ring Oct. 2 in Newark. Opponent TBA.

Nick (Sacrament)

Dan, when I started getting into Boxing, I was watching ESPN Classic Boxing, featuring Bob Foster. He won by knockout, and it was the first time I loudly explained "GODDAMN!", when Foster hit you clean, you went to sleep.

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 AM)

Exactly. I have a bunch of his old fights on DVD. He was a great fighter.

Flint (Jacksonville, Florida)

I understand that a Pascal and Bute fight would be tremendous in Canada, but I feel that Cloud is more deserving of a shot at unifying the titles at this moment. How do you feel?

Dan Rafael
  (1:05 AM)

Pascal-Cloud or Pascal-Bute are both fine fights. Obviously, the all-Canadian promotion is much bigger.

Charles (DFW)

By the way, nice touch that Michael Buffer actually mentioned Showtime when he did the Jay Larkin tribute. I don't know how often to two networks acknowledge each other since they're such big competitors, but it was still nice.

Dan Rafael
  (1:06 AM)

I agree. Having been a friend of Jay's for a long time, I got a little choked up I have to admit.

Sam (Chicago, IL)

To me, the disappointing thing about Chad tonight wasn't lack of passion or killer instinct, but lack of counterpunching. When Pascal would rush in, he was open to be hit, but Chad was always covering after Pascal's offensive rushes rather than looking to land counterpunches.

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 AM)

He also severely neglected his jab.

Danilo (Fort Worth, TX)

I agree that Dawson's career is not done by any means. But his stock just took a huge hit.

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 AM)

Sure it did.

w.smith (Portland)

So any chance Golovkin actually "unifies" his interim WBA title with regular title holder Felix Sturm? Seems like the kid is down to travel.

Dan Rafael
  (1:07 AM)

Who knows? It's the WBA we're talking about.

Gale Van Hoy (Texas)

I had Dawson ahead 107-102. This is an outrage!!!

Aaron (MI)

Why do you bash Mayweather for avoiding Pac-Man when its obvious that Mayweather is publicly trying to get his promotional team in order for the big fight????

Dan Rafael
  (1:08 AM)

And to think I thought it might be a Pacquiao and Mayweather free chat. I can dream can't I?

Jimmy (Arlington, Va)

Dawson needs to hire Leonard Ellerbe, so that Ellerbe can state that the loss never happened and in fact Dawson has never even been to Canada.

Dan Rafael
  (1:08 AM)

Brilliant.

miguel (los angeles)

another hype job exposed.

Dan Rafael
  (1:09 AM)

Dawson was NOT a hype job. Dude schooled Adamek, beat Tarver twice (neither competitive), beat Johnson twice (once close, once a wipeout) and even beat Harding when Harding was still good. That is not hype. Those are results. I love how people see a guy lose once and all of a sudden nothing they ever did means anything. You are dead wrong.

Rob (Brooklyn,NY)

I know this is a little of topic, but I always wanted to ask you. Who do you think is the greatest fighter of all time?

Dan Rafael
  (1:10 AM)

I go with the general consensus of Sugar Ray Robinson.

Steeve (Montreal)

Just got back from downtown and the Bell Centre...I believe I've gone deaf but thank god I didn't go blind. It was great to watch! Now for Bute-Pascal. Can you dig it? I said, "CAAAN YOUUUU DIG IIIIIIT?!?"I seriously need to calm down. Wooo......

Dan Rafael
  (1:10 AM)

Settle down.

Dan Rafael
  (1:12 AM)

Lou DiBella just Tweeted to me to declare himself a Fight Freak!

Carlos (NY)

Lampley also mentioned Showtime when he brought up the Super 6 tourney

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 AM)

It's called keepin' it real and it is appreciated.

Adam (DuPage)

Does B-Hop fight again? Against who?

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 AM)

He said on FNF the other night that he wanted to fight again.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

The freaks love Lou

Louis (Montreal)

LouDibella deserve Freak Status. It's a no-brainer

Nick (Sacramento)

DiBella always comes across as a really legit guy.

Dan Rafael
  (1:15 AM)

A whack job, but a legit one.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, Any chance they do Ward/Direll in Oakland? They could get 9-10,000 there at least

Dan Rafael
  (1:15 AM)

That fight is not going to be in Oakland from the promoters say.

Dan Rafael
  (1:16 AM)

Come on Freaks, follow me on Twitter.

Charles (DFW)

You mean Lou Tweeted you after you told him to STFU? The Dos Equis guy ain't got nothing on you.

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 AM)

Yeah, I wasn't mad it him, I was just telling him to get a grip on his insanity for a minute.

Sam (Chicago, IL)

If Lou wants freak status, tell him to load up that Oct 2 card with great matchups for Berto and Caballero!

Dan Rafael
  (1:18 AM)

Duly noted.

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Dan, One of the downside of a RAD (maybe the only one!) is that a fighter's loyal followers lead with their emotions and not with reason. I too appreciate your calling like it is and keepoing it real. I have a feeling by next Friday's chat the fervor will have died a quiet death. And much thanks for tonight's RAD!

Dan Rafael
  (1:20 AM)

They do let their emotions get the better of them. All the Dawson folks need to take a deep gulp of air and relax. Chad got beat. It happens. The sun will still rise tomorrow.

Mark (ATL)

I need a lesson on boxing economics. How much money does HBO make off of an HBO produced and distributed PPV? 30%???...and is this money put directly into the HBO Boxing budget?

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 AM)

Much less that that. Usually about 10%. I am not their accountant, but my understanding is that depending on how well a ppv might do some of that money HBO makes sometimes goes back into the boxing budget.

Jesus (Bell Gardens, CA)

Thanks for the link Dan! Moreno's a bit of a runner, apparently.

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 AM)

Yup, that's who he is.

Mark N (San Francisco)

FOTY candidate tonight. Pascal fought really smart in bursts, throwing punches from all angles. But Dawson was on the verge of a KO. I still think Dawson is the best 175-pounder in the world. Dan? Great fight though. Kudos to Pascal. A rematch is great for boxing. I think Chad schools him in a rematch BTW.

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 AM)

Fight of the year? Are you drunk?

Mark (Brooksville, Fla.)

Dan, I have always loved Bob Foster. If the freaks want to see one of the sickest KO's ever go watch Foster vs Mike Quarry. Folks will appreciate jusy how great Bob Foster really was!

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, I must say because nobody has said it but it was good to hear a 3 man crew on HBO again

Dan Rafael
  (1:23 AM)

Agreed.

Jim (New York)

Can Pascal buy-out the rematch clause?

Dan Rafael
  (1:24 AM)

I have no idea. Bu why would he want to pay to get out of fighting a guy he beat against whom he will make a lot of money to do it again?

Charles (DFW)

What about Berto and Selcuk Aydin? Doesn't seem to be a lot of options right now at 147.

Dan Rafael
  (1:25 AM)

It was his mandatory at one point. I don't think HBO has any interest in that fight. Aydin, by the way, was in St. Louis last week. He did a co-promotional deal with Don King, who know has him with Arena Box.

Sam (Chicago, IL)

You mentioned how Chad's stock, as well as his HBO paycheck, drops after this loss. Wouldn't Angulo's as well if he gets shutout by Sergio Martinez, which seems highly likely if those two guys fought?

Dan Rafael
  (1:26 AM)

Totally different. Chad was supposed to win. Chad was a p4p guy. Angulo would be a big underdog, but makes great fights, which Chad doesn't. Angulo would also be moving out of his division for the fight. It's apples and oranges.

Mauri (DFW)

Dan now that Mikey Garcia beat Lock, what's a good next fight for him?

Dan Rafael
  (1:27 AM)

Well he is now the mandatory challenger for Orlando Salido, who faces Gamboa next month. So he'll be the mandatory for the winner of the fight.

Dan Rafael
  (1:28 AM)

Going to the 12th round of Moreno-Cermeno.

Jeff (Gilbert, AZ)

Dan,I was watching the Dawson vs. Pascal fight tonight and it reminded me very much of the Jones vs Griffin (1) fight (of course the end was quite different)....I have a feeling that a second fight would have a similar end too.

Dan Rafael
  (1:28 AM)

I doubt that because Dawson is not a puncher at all like Roy was and Pascal is known for having a great chin.

Sam (Chicago, IL)

Well you have to admit, Dan, that it has been a pretty slow year for FOTY candidates! Ok, maybe not that slow.

Dan Rafael
  (1:29 AM)

It has been slow, but Pascal-Dawson isn't even in the top 20 this year.

Jackie (Georgia)

Dan, I don't know if you're watching the Moreno fight right now, but Cermeno has to be one of the most dirty fighters in the game.

Dan Rafael
  (1:30 AM)

I'm watching it while I chat, or at least trying to. Cermeno is a bit dirty.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, try saying this 3 times fast.... Pongsaklek Wonjongkam vs. Suriyan Por Chockchai

Dan Rafael
  (1:30 AM)

My head is going to explode. My wife could do it.

Elkie (Washington D.C.)

I'm watching Moreno too and it might be the last time. Stand and fight, man!

Don (Miami)

Did you hear Pascal call out Calzaghe and several others after the fight? Do you think Joe is ever coming out of retirement?

Dan Rafael
  (1:31 AM)

Who knows? All these guys should call out a guy who is actually fighting. When I interviewed Chad the other day he also said he wanted to fight Calzaghe. I'm surprised they didn't call out Roy Jones and Michael Spinks too.

M.J.R. (N.J.)

Dan, on the PPV note do you have any knowledge on how group viewings (a sports bar, movie theater, etc.) are figured into the total number of PPV buys? I mean sports bars/theaters have to pay more than I would at home because of the occupancy capacity right? And are those large group settings figured into the total number of buys?

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 AM)

They aren't. They count as closed circuit revenue.

Reyes (541)

A prime Erik Morales and a prime Juan Manuel Marquez... Who wins??

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 AM)

I would lean to Marquez.

cesar (chitown)

I think Moreno won that fight but its a difficult one to score. He is a runner though!

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 AM)

A lot of his fights are like that.

Reyes (541)

Joe Goosen was in Arreola's corner last night as assitant trainer. You think he can bring anything to that camp to put Cris over the top? Or does it ultimatly come down to his shape and weight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 AM)

Nobody will put Cris over the top until he takes things seriously.

Mauri (DFW)

BTW, I never wanted to join Twitter or any of those social networking sites but once I heard you had started tweeting I signed up and gave in. Now I can't get enough info!

Dan Rafael
  (1:33 AM)

Good man. I have been Tweeting and giving the Freaks all sorts of updates and comments even though I have only had an account for a week.

Dan Rafael
  (1:34 AM)

Here come the Moreno-Cermeno scores.

Dan Rafael
  (1:34 AM)

It's a split decision.

Dan Rafael
  (1:36 AM)

And Moreno wins it to keep his bantam belt.

Reyes (541)

Angulo turned down $750 grand for Martinez... What was he thinking? I like Perro & Sergio and really wanna see that fight. Any chance that still gets made?

Dan Rafael
  (1:37 AM)

Doubtful. Martinez-Williams 2 looks back on track and is very close.

Charles (DFW)

Any way to get television for the upcoming Brit card with Matt Macklin, Nathan Cleverly, etc. on it? Very heavy card. We definitely don't do that over here very often.

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 AM)

I love that card and I was hoping it might be on a small US PPV but no luck. I'll have to find it on the net and then wait for my DVD a week later.

Braindamaged2too (the Asylum)

Dan, How about a Tua vs Arreola fight with the winner to face Valuev's poop?

Dan Rafael
  (1:39 AM)

Relax.

John (Cali)

Hi Dan, who would have won between a prime riddick bowe and a prime lennox Lewis? Who had the better career and why didn't they ever fight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:40 AM)

Bowe ducked him that's why and I think if they did fight I would have picked Lewis. And at least they did fight once, in the Olympics, and Lewis stopped him.

Frank (NYC)

By Keiran's logic, Mosley deserves a rematch against Floyd simply for wobbling Floyd in the 2nd round . . . .

Dan Rafael
  (1:40 AM)

Exactly.

w.smith (Portland)

Moreno retains. I thought Carmeno scraped by. What's next for Moreno?

Dan Rafael
  (1:41 AM)

No idea, but he's boring as hell.

Elkie (Washington D.C.)

All I can say is thank God Moreno isn't part of Showtime's bantamweight tourney!

Dan Rafael
  (1:41 AM)

I agree. BORING.

Bob (Fla)

Dan, what do you drive?

Dan Rafael
  (1:41 AM)

A car.

bruce t (torrance,ca)

jmm over erik morales? please explain

Dan Rafael
  (1:42 AM)

I like his ability to brawl and box. He is a more complete fighter than Morales.

Agustin (Turlock)

Any word on Cotto's next opponent? I would love to the "El Perro" challenge Cotto.

Dan Rafael
  (1:43 AM)

He's probably fighting Chavez Jr. on Dec. 4. I encourage you to read my Friday notebook.

Mauri (DFW)

Dan I see you like JMM over Erik Morales in their primes but yesterday you ranked JMM under Morales when asked about Pacquiao, Barrera, Morales, JMM. Is it because you were considering their whole careers in the ranking?

Dan Rafael
  (1:45 AM)

Exactly. Morales I think gets a slight nod over Marquez overall. He beat Barrera in their first fight and is the last man to beat Pacquiao (clearly). It's close and they are both great fighters and will be HOFers but head to head, they never faced off.

Tim (Providence)

What chance do you give Matt Godfrey of beating Marco Huck next weekend?

Dan Rafael
  (1:46 AM)

Not a good one.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, throw us freaks a comment where you respond, "these are my readers"

Dan Rafael
  (1:47 AM)

Let me look.

JIM (WI)

Weaker mind - Dawson or Cintron?

Dan Rafael
  (1:50 AM)

Cintron. 100 percent.

bill (pgh)

next time you are stuck in an airport the morning after a big fight, you should host an impromptu chat. I even have a name for it: RIM Rafael In the Morning.

Dan Rafael
  (1:51 AM)

Ummm, no.

Danilo (Fort Worth, TX)

Dandroid, I don't get Arreola's people. "He really dedicated himself during this camp" and then the dude shows up looking like a mattress with a tight rope around the waste. Please people !!!

Brooks (Cleveland)

I'm here in Montreal, just got back to my hotel from the fight. I had it 105-104 Pascal from here live, wouldn't argue 106-103. Thought the 108-101 was a stretch, but right guy still won. A little disappointing just because I wanted to see the rest of 11 and 12. That cut was just pouring blood though, to my eyes the doctor made the right call. Great atmosphere, these people really support boxing. Definitely want to come back here again.

Dan Rafael
  (1:51 AM)

Sounds like you had a blast.

Joe (NJ)

Gotta say it but Vaulev's poop has to bigger then Costa rica.

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 AM)

These are my readers.

Mauri (DFW)

gotta confess, I had never been part of a RAD before but follow your chats and boxing articles religiously but am sure glad I finally made it to one and all thanks to my new Twitter account which served as a great reminder. Freaks we need to keep signing up so Dan can win his bet!!!!

Jose Sulaiman (WBC)

I am pleased to announce that we have sanctioned an interim silver heavyweight title fight between David Tua and Nikolai Valuev's poop.

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 AM)

For a small sanctioning fee, of course.

bill (pgh)

there was a good card on FSN tonight too. Why couldn't Top Rank do shows like that when they were on Versus?

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 AM)

No Mexican TV money.

Scott (Bloomington, MN)

Hey Dan, Great stuff on twitter, might we now see Dawson v Hopkins?

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 AM)

No chance after that fight. MAYBE if he had won. Defintely not with Dawson losing.

Anthony (NY)

Is Cotto-Chavez going to be at 154?

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 AM)

Yes.

Willie (Salida, CA)

Props to Donnie Nietes for defending his title tonight. I know the freaks don't talk minimumweight much, but is Nietes the best at 105, or is it Roman Gonzalez or the South African champ?

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 AM)

He did win a decision. Hard to say because they never fight each other and usually do not fight any top guys.

Fernando (Ft Carson)

Where does arreola go after last night?

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 AM)

Taco Bell?

Frank (Boston)

Put me down as a big fan of the WWE style entrances tonight.

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 AM)

Great entrances. They know how to do it up in Montreal.

Derek (Bay Area, CA)

Dan,Just wanted to throw another shout out and say thanks for the weekly chats, the RAD, and the TWITTER. Like everyone else, I joined Twitter just for your updates.

Dan Rafael
  (1:55 AM)

Good man! All Freaks should join me on Twitter.

Mario Mungia (Corpus Christi, TX)

Dan-O-Mite! How great is Larry Merchant to call out fighters in the post fight interview, its become almost expected at this point. Max does a GREAT job, but Larry is a Legend! Wish he worked more fights these days... His interviews are worth the money

JP (Columbus, OH)

"Dawson couldn't draw flies to a dump"...so funny, yet so true.

Dan Rafael
  (1:56 AM)

I keep it real.

AMC (Las Cruces)

Where does arreola go after last night? TACO BELL? LMAO Classic!!!

Dan Rafael
  (1:57 AM)

Am I wrong? Maybe Rubios or Baja Fresh.

Cory (Casper,WY)

Dawson left his jab at home along with whatever passion he has. I'm a Dawson fan, but some of these Dawson fans need to breath. He lost. It happens. On another note what's next for Paul Williams?

Dan Rafael
  (1:59 AM)

Williams likely will fight Martinez again on Nov. 20.

Greg (Los Angeles)

Dan is Dzinziruk-Mayorga actually a possibility or a bad internet rumor?

Dan Rafael
  (1:59 AM)

I know his name came up but I doubt it happens and if it does, shame on HBO. That is a travesty.

Ricardo (Bronx, NY)

Dawson's most aggressive act all night was with Larry!!!

Dan Rafael
  (2:00 AM)

LOL!

Coolio (Brooklyn)

Dan, a lot of speculation is littering the internet over this, so set us straight -- how close is Williams-Martinez II to being a done deal?

Dan Rafael
  (2:00 AM)

They are getting close. I believe it will happen.

Ryan (Ohio)

I think Cermeno got robbed. He controlled the action and won 9 of the 12 rounds on my card.

Dan Rafael
  (2:01 AM)

Tell somebody who cares. It was a crappy fight with a lot of close rounds.

Willie (Salida, CA)

I'm not saying Mayorga should be on PPV's anymore, but for a gatekeeper to a young prospect (like Canelo) or an unknown champ like Dzinzurek, I have to admit those would be some pretty interesting matchups, no?

Dan Rafael
  (2:03 AM)

Not at all. Mayorga has not fought for like more than 2 years and probably is nowhere even remotelely close to 154. Besides, last time he had a chance to fight on HBO against Angulo he bailed at the last minute and caused all kinds of problems for the promoters and HBO. And on top of that he does not remotely deserve a title bout. It's a miserable matchup.

JayJ (Toronto)

best fans right now, Montreal or Germany?

Dan Rafael
  (2:04 AM)

Both gave great fans, but Montreal's are more vocal.

Joel Julio (Training Camp)

Good night, Papa!

Dan Rafael
  (2:04 AM)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child. Sweet dreams.

Charles (DFW)

2 a.m. Dan. Getting close to your curfew? Or is Mrs. DTM flexible?

Dan Rafael
  (2:05 AM)

She's been asleep for two hours probably.

jason (cali)

hey dan, I really want your opinion on this. Is it just me or has it been a somewhat disapointing year for american boxing? I mean mayweather not fighting pac, Danny jacobs losing, Dawson losing tonight, Paul williams not looking impressive against cintron, Juan Diaz losing again, Devon Alexander just barley getting by Kotelnik, and im probably forgetting some others. whats your take on american boxing right now?

Dan Rafael
  (2:05 AM)

Been a bad year overall for the sport, not just in America. More important matches that aren't happening than are and the ones that do happen have not provided a serious fight of the year candidate yet.

JD (Phoenix)

Gotta love these RAD chats! They are at night so I don't have to use alt-tab to avoid the boss. Unfortunately, now that you are on Twitter, I am checking my twitter account all day now...

Dan Rafael
  (2:06 AM)

Good!

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano you think HBO PPV or regular HBO if Martinez/Williams happens

Dan Rafael
  (2:06 AM)

Are you serious? DEFINITELY HBO.

Rui (Nutley, NJ)

How do you compare tonight's version of Pascal with the one who lost to Froch?

Dan Rafael
  (2:07 AM)

Same fighter, better result.

Charles (DFW)

Come on JD. It's not like he twittering what he had for breakfast.

Dan Rafael
  (2:08 AM)

I could if you want?

tosh (Los Angeles)

Dan, do you think that Dawson's loss is because of only fighting once this year or something deeper which is not showing urgency (which would not be corrected by increased activity)?

Dan Rafael
  (2:09 AM)

I don't think so. Remember, Pascal had been off since December, so he had a similar layoff and was coming off a major injury.

Michael ((Fort Mill, SC))

What are your impressions of Gennady Golovkin and how much of a factor can he be in the Middleweight division. Is it true that Felix Sturm turned down a fight with Golovkin.

Dan Rafael
  (2:10 AM)

I like Golovkin a lot. Good amateur background and is diverse. I had him ranked in my top prospects at the end of last year.

Tony (FL)

BHOP-RJJ 2 was better than this fight.

Dan Rafael
  (2:10 AM)

Please back away from the computer. Nobody is going to hurt you.

Dan Rafael
  (2:11 AM)

Check it out Freaks: http://twitter.com/danrafaelespn

sluaiman (CANCUN)

our board has voted unanimously to sanction every heavyweight fight on tv for a regional belt, which will be named after the country of origin of one of the participants ancestors.

Jim (Chicago)

What time do you normally go to bed?

Dan Rafael
  (2:11 AM)

Late.

ARock (Ohio)

It seems obvious there were a lot of freaks drinking if they think that was a hometown decision. Dawson could have won but wouldn't pull the trigger. Put that fight in Vegas and it's scored the same way.

Dan Rafael
  (2:12 AM)

You are right.

Jim (NJ)

Lou Dibella tweeted "disgusting interview". LOL

Dan Rafael
  (2:12 AM)

Yeah, he was not happy with Dawson's excuses.

Jesus (Bell Gardens, CA)

Switching gears a bit, have you heard anything about Ola Afolabi? He had that great win against Enzo and then fell off the map? With all the cruisers signing in Germany, is there a meaningful fight out there for him?

Dan Rafael
  (2:12 AM)

Nothing. Absolutely nothing other than training in LA.

Aaron (Milwaukee)

Dan - Bute is clearly the class of the division... yes?

Dan Rafael
  (2:13 AM)

Ummm, no. Ever hear of the Super Six?

Ricardo (Bronx, NY)

Over/Under: Dan has 2,000 followers.

Dan Rafael
  (2:14 AM)

Right now, I'm under. But I've only had the account for 7 days.

Brock (Illinois)

As much as I was rooting for Chad, that was a pretty easy fight to score. He just gave all the rounds away. Its like he forgot he had a left hand.

Sam (Chicago, IL)

This was not a great fight, but it wasn't bad either. There was at least some drama in the later rounds because it seemed like Dawson at least had a shot at the stoppage. I thought Larry was a bit too negative about the fight.

Dan Rafael
  (2:15 AM)

I agree with what you're saying. Not a great fight, but a good fight with an element of drama and even though Larry is my main man, I thought he was a little hard on things.

Greg (Los Angeles)

Dan how much truth is there to the rumors of Berto-Kotelnik?

Dan Rafael
  (2:16 AM)

King is pushing it on HBO. It's possible.

Oakr8der ((Visalia, ca))

DTM, has Gary Shaw spoken to you after the fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 AM)

I have not yet spoken with Gary.

TeddyB (CO)

Hello Dan this my first time chattin at ya and its awesome! What do u think of pascals power based on this fight? I think he could have maybe got chad outta there before the cut stopped it if chad would have fought harder and less defensively

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 AM)

I don't see Pascal as a big puncher but I get the feeling that if he put his punches together more he could get more knockouts with volume.

Juan (PR)

How much self retraint did you have to exercise while reporting the signing of the Holyfield-Tank fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:18 AM)

Just write the facts in a news story.

brian (scottsdale, az)

i blame you for me establishing a twitter account. look forward to the updates!

Dan Rafael
  (2:18 AM)

Don't hate. Congratulate.

Steve (Sac,Ca)

Dano, anything new on Yuri Foreman? When do you think he fights again after the knee problem?

Dan Rafael
  (2:19 AM)

Nothing new. Rehab and he won't fight until at least February.

Christopher (Kalamazoo, MI)

Dan, I just got done watching the DVR of the fight after getting home from my Black Keys concert. I'm with you and a few of the intelligent freaks in here. Pascal kicked Chad's ass all night, outside of three or maybe four rounds at the most. Crybabies need to go to bed.

JoJo (Columbus, OH)

No wonder Floyd Mayweather thinks Dawson is so awesome. Watching Chad avoid engagement at all costs probably reminds him of himself.

Dan Rafael
  (2:21 AM)

Ouch.

Joe (Stamford, CT)

If the cut doesn't happen, how does the last 4 minutes of the fight play out, in your opinion?

Dan Rafael
  (2:22 AM)

Same as the previous 10-plus rounds. Pascal landing, Chad being frustrated and not letting his hands go.

Dan (CA)

Is B.J. Flores vs Yoan Pablo Hernandez a done deal, and who you got?

Dan Rafael
  (2:23 AM)

No, Flores is not going to fight him. He has other plans.

Chris Carrasco (Roswell NM)

To be honest with you this is the first fight that I have pulled for BAD chad. He has beaten a lot of my favorite fighters in the past, but I believe that he didn't fight to his potential tonight. That is his problem, I believe he is still the most talented fighter in the division, but if you don't show up you lose, and that is what happend tonight.

Jason (Riverside, CA)

Dan back to what you saw on Friday. Did that fight pretty much set Cris Arreola back another 1+ years in terms of getting a top-tier heavyweight matchup?

Dan Rafael
  (2:24 AM)

Who knows? I do know this -- Cris is not a top-tier heavyweight and never is going to be. End of discussion.

Willie (Salida, CA)

Wow, BJ is fighting?! If he's not fighting Hernandez, what are his other plans?

Dan Rafael
  (2:26 AM)

He's got something in the works that I can't go into.

Jim (Chicago)

Do you care about Adamek fighting Grant?

Dan Rafael
  (2:27 AM)

Anytime Adamek fights I am interested. Do I expect him to win? Sure. But that does not mean I'm not interested in seeing how he does it.

Jose Sulaiman (WBC)

I am happy to announce that we have awarded the Greatest of All Time title to Mr. Floyd Mayweather Jr. and the Interim Silver Continental European British Ducker World Championship to David Haye

Berndawg (CHI)

4th man in the 135/TR tourney--David Diaz, perhaps??

Dan Rafael
  (2:28 AM)

Hopefully, not. I would imagine Barrera gets the crack before Diaz.

Dan Rafael
  (2:29 AM)

By the way -- I am psyched for Summerslam on Sunday!

Louis (Montreal)

I'm totally drunk. And happy. And drunk. Pascal-Bute!

Russell (NV)

Do you think Dawson should fight Pascal ASAP or take another fight, win, and then get the rematch?

Dan Rafael
  (2:32 AM)

My understanding is that the contract allows Pascal an interim fight. So I'm sure he will take that opportunity. Whethet it's against Bute or somebody else we don't know. But remember, Bute is fighting Brinkley in October anyway. So I would think both guys would fight first before that fight even becomes a serious possibility. And then there will be the issue of the rematch, so it's all up in the air.

Charles (DFW)

Do you consider Humberto Soto a future HOFer? If not what would he need to do besides ducking real opponents at 135

Dan Rafael
  (2:33 AM)

Don't be an idiot.

Jamison (Redway)

Rather convenient for Chad to say 'I was gonna get him out of there.' Well you had your chance for 10 and a half rounds and were unable or unwilling to let your hands go.

Dan Rafael
  (2:34 AM)

You are absolutely right.

Mario Mungia (Corpus Christi, TX)

Instead of dreaming about hot women and tons of money I dream of sitting at a bar with Dan, Max, Larry, Jim and Floyd Mayweather picking up the tab after each of us takes turns ridculing him for not making the fight of a life time... I am a FREAK

Dan Rafael
  (2:35 AM)

OMG that is freakin' hilarious.

Dan (CA)

Have you heard any names being tossed around for Odlanier Solis in his next fight? I would love to see Solis vs. Arreola

Dan Rafael
  (2:36 AM)

No. It probably won't be a top opponent. It's a Top Rank Live card and Solis is close to a mandatory position.

Aaron (MI)

Lou Dibella didn't like Chad Dawson's excuses tonight??? I wonder what he thinks of his own fighter Allen Green who is the KING of excuses???

Dan Rafael
  (2:37 AM)

He hates them too.

Deantoni (Cali)

Baby Bull Diaz vs. Amir Khan: a possibility? who do you like in that one?

Dan Rafael
  (2:39 AM)

That ain't happening.

Fernando (Puerto Rico)

That headbutt looked intentional to me!! Watch the replay, this fight looked like Chad could have ko'd him any time he wanted to...

Dan Rafael
  (2:40 AM)

That was not an intentional head butt. It amazes me how ridiculous some people are.

Jasper Melton Jr (Boston,Ma)

Is the possibly the end of Dawson's Career? And do you think he could have compete with fighters like Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins in their prime?

Dan Rafael
  (2:41 AM)

Why would it be the end of his career? He's 28. He lost a decision to a good fighter and worthy champion. Overreact much?

Rob (CA)

Just like Lamps said, Dawson was fighting as if he thought he was just putting rounds in the bag...what a dope.

Dan Rafael
  (2:43 AM)

He wasn't and shame on him if he thought he was, especially being in the other guy's hometown.

Roman (Atlanta)

I dont know my Canadian boxing history. Would Pascal vs Bute be biggest boxing match in that country's history?

Dan Rafael
  (2:43 AM)

I believe so.

Jason (Riverside, CA)

Hi Dan. Congrats on breaking 1600 followers on your Twitter to start the chat.

Dan Rafael
  (2:44 AM)

Thanks. All the Freaks must follow!

Slick (Philly)

Dawson's trainer gave him great instructions all night but he refused to listen

Dan Rafael
  (2:45 AM)

Yeah, Eddie was on top of his game, but Dawson was not.

Alex (Slc, Ut)

DANtreal..! Rematch....is it a must??? I think so Chad didn't have a good nite overall but he was about to take him about, i didn't like Chad excuses he sounded like a beaten man..I'm I dreamin with Sergio "maravilla" beatin pascal?

Dan Rafael
  (2:47 AM)

I just like the nickname.

David (Houston)

So my boy Kim got schooled tonight? I dont have access to that channel...

Dan Rafael
  (2:48 AM)

Yeah, lost virtually every round. I only watched a few minutes of it. I have it on the DVR but all reports are he got schooled, and that is what I was told by some folks who have watched it.

Charles (Redding)

Linares was impressive against Juarez - what might be next for him?

Dan Rafael
  (2:48 AM)

He may have a fight in the fall in Japan.

ned (hartford)

"You are making excuses" HBO, give Larry a lifetime deal. Now.

Frankie J (Seattle )

Was unable to watch the fight....followed you thru Twitter. Good job D-Moolah!!!!

Dan Rafael
  (2:49 AM)

Good man.

Dan Rafael
  (2:52 AM)

OK, Freaks, thanks for the marathon RAD. Hope you enjoyed the fights. Remember to check out all the stories on the boxing page, Friday's notebook, the updated schedule and remember to follow me on Twitter @danrafaelespn. Talk to you on Friday back in our regular afternoon slot. Peace.
