Chat with Bill WIlliamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

Chris (Chicago)

Update on Denver rooks Thomas and Decker? When will Thomas play & how is Deck doing?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Thomas is still on the mend and Decker appears ready to go.

jr (pueblo, co)

Do you think if Bruce Gradkowski performs outstanding tonight with the 2nd and 3rd stringers has a chance of starting QB

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

Mo, it's Campbel's job. Still, Gradkowski is a solid No. 2.

Wes (Gastonia)

Jason Campbell is surrounded by physically gifted receivers. Do you think he is set up to break out this year and become one of the leagues best qb's?

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

I think he has a chance to be average guy. That's what he is. he won't kill you. He won't carry you.

Chris P (Colorado Springs, Co)

hey bill big fan of ur blog, just curious about your thoughts on 4 players: Perrish Coxs, Robert Ayers, Joe Mays, and Syd'Quan Thompson? I think these 4 guys are going to be good key players on the Broncos defense even though Ayers hasn't lived up to his potential YET, I think he's coming along he aint no Dumervil but I think he will get alot of pressure on some QBs this season.

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

Thanks, Chris. I they will contribute in this order this season: Ayers, Mays, Cox and Thompson.

James (KC)

When the Chiefs Dominate SD on Monday Night on both sides of the ball will you be on the Chiefs Bandwagon to take the Division?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I'd be impressed for sure.

Ed (San Diego)

What kind of numbers do you see out of Ryan Matthews this year? Can Floyd get 1000 yds and 8 TDs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Mathews: 1200-1,400 yards.Yes, on Floyd.

Rob (Philadelphia)

Do you think Knowshon Moreno will break out this season or will the backfield be split between him and Correll Buckhalter?

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

I think Denver might be best suited if the two backs split carries.

Bryce (Shorewood, IL)

Is it unrealistic to assume this line for Orton: 60% Completion percentage; 3500 yds; 25 TD's; 10 wins for the Broncos? And yes, I can make a case for 10 legitimate wins.

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

Unrealistic, probably, but I guess it could happen. I like the way Orton is playing.

Jeff (kc)

I've been hearing for years what an offensive genius Charlie Weis is, yet in the preseason the Chiefs passing attack has been conservative and unimaginative. Is that because of lack of personnel, lack of wanting to divulge the play book or have we been oversold on Charlie's prowess?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

Let's give him a month or so into the regular season. I don't get worried about the preseason.

Daivd (Lawrence, KS)

The KC Chiefs seems to be the same team as last year. I am trying understand what has happen to Jarrad Page? I thought he sign his new contract last year. He really is a great player, and to not be sitting on the bench. If they don't think he is good, then why won't they trade him? I know many team will jump for him right away.

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

It's the quietest holdout of all time. He's staying away and the Chiefs could care less. Perhaps they deal him for a low-round pick this weekend.

Sergio (Tijuana, Mexico)

Why is San Diego limiting the teams to bid for Vincent Jackson, why isn't Washington on the list of authorized teams?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

Good question, friend. If the Chargers want to get something for Jackosn, they must allow some teams to get involved.

Wes (Gastonia)

Oakland has the highest team salary while Kansas City has the lowest. Which team is going to have a better year and which has a brighter future?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

They are very close. I think only a game or two will seperate these two teams.

Mike (San Diego)

Bill, if Marcus McNeill comes back, do you think the chargers would be wise to move dombroski over to right tackle? He's a great run blocker and clary is not cutting it

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

Yeah, maybe. Dombrowski is a player.

SprungOnSports (Long Island)

Not many people have been talking about Eddie Royal. He seems to be the only sure thing Denver has at WR. Is he the key to this offense?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

He is a key. I think Gaffney is Orton's favroite target and McDaniels loves Gaffney.

jason (memphis)

last week you said Oakland could be a play to get Housmezadeh after roster cuts, hear anything else on that? he would be a major upgrade to that WR corp.

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

If he gets cut, I could see it.

Mike (San Diego)

Hey Bill rather than pay attention in my federal tax class i thought i would talk football. How big of an impact will it have on the Raiders if Michael Bush is a no go week 1?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

Glad to help, brother ... I think t twould limit the offense and take away the power running game. It could be a big deal.

Ricky (Oakland)

I'm concerned about McFadden - going into his 3rd year now and he's never gained more than 500 yards on the ground in a season. In my mind, he's nearing the point of becoming a textbook bust - I don't think it matters whether there have been injuries or not. He moves as slow as a sloth at time! What do you think, BDubs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

This is a huge year for McFadden. If he gets hurt a lot and doesn't have many big games, the bust talk will be warrented.

Dillon (Lawrence)

Who has the better year Charles or Matthews?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

Great quesiton: I'll go with Charles, just slightly because we'e seen him do it before. We haven't seen Mathews yet. But I expect him to do very well.

Ricky (Oakland)

While I certainly don't have the man-crush on Tim Tebow that you seem to have, BW, I am impressed by his resilience and willingess to improve his style. Do you think the Broncos will come with consistently and find opportunities for Tebow to play?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

No man crush, Ricky, just business ...I think we'll see Tebow in special pakcages throughout the season.

Brian (Colorado)

Where do you see Perrish Cox and Syd'Quan on the depth chart with the other CB's?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

Cox should be three, Thompson.

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

That's Thompson should be the 5th CB.

Hootie (San Diego)

Are You planning to attend the Chargers vs Chiefs Opening Day "Monday Night Football" game?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

Yes, it's going to be awesome.

mustafa (oakland)

do the raiders win 9 games this year with what you have seen in preseason

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

That might be a tad high. I could see eight wins.

Ricky (Oakland)

I've seen the Raiders' official denial of interest in Matt "The Thief" Leinart - but do you REALLY think Al isn't interested in him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

I don't know why he would be. Gradkowski is a good backup.

Zach (Work)

Bill, love your work and your blog. With the cut date down to 53 coming up very soon, is there any big names in the AFC West that are potentially on the chopping block to be cut?

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

Thanks, Zach, guys on the bubble may include Brandon Stokley, Alphonso Smith, John Henderson and Johnnie Lee Higgins.

Wes (Gastonia)

How good could the chiefs secondary be this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

Pretty good and great in the future. Berry, Flowers, Carr and Lewis could be a special group.

Andrew (Montgomery, AL)

How many more wins would you see the Broncos getting if Duvermil didn't get hurt?

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

Maybe a couple.

Sergio (Tijuana, Mexico)

The Deep passing game has been absent for the chargers, is this a sign of the missing personel or an adjustment to a more balanced offense?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

We'll see Rivers hit Floyd deep in the regular seaosn very often, I do believe.

Roger (Wichita, KS)

I know that Scott Pioli had a challenge when he came to Kansas City to rebuild this football team but exactly how bad of a mess did he have to clean up? Did Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards leave that huge of a mess at KC?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

It was an out of shape and not very deep.

Shaun M (Los Angeles)

Over/Under for DHB:45 catches, 650 yards, 4 TDS

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

Under on the catches and yards.I'd say 35 catches, 450 yards and 5 TDSs.

Hootie (San Diego)

Bill,I'm a huge NFL fan I'm also a big time foodie/ tailgate guy.I know KC is known for BBQ, San Diego for seafood, Denver for beef and game meat, what's Oakland got going on?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

Great BBQ and Mexican food on game day.

Wes (Gastonia)

Is Demaryius Thomas a good enough replacement for Marshall to prevent denvers offense from becoming one dimensional?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

Not yet, no.

Ricky (Oakland)

I think the Chargers have a good, fundamentally sound squad. But, their starting wide outs are Floyd and Naanee?? How can they be expected to be taken seriously without any real wide receiver threat. Time to pin the ears back and key in on Matthews, Gates, and Rivers. Vincent Jackson lazy.

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

Expect to see Gates lined up as a receiver often.

adkjani (fargo)

A lot has been made of the raider's suspect run defense, but I'm worried about the 2ndary (outside of Nnamdi). Huff keeps getting beaten on those long runs. Should I be worried?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

Yeah, maybe. It's not great outside of Nnamdi.

Rocky H (Alameda)

Bush or McFadden? Thanks for the great work B Dubs. Guess who?? B Dubs.

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

Thanks, Ricky ... I'd go with Bush. Good power guy.

Desert Rose (Phoenix)

Why do you think SD has so much depth? I follow them fairly closely and I couldn't tell you any of the 2nd or 3rd stringer's names. I think they DID have depth but not so much now.

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

They are deep at many spots. They have a lot of good, young talent.

Wes (Gastonia)

Do you think Demaryious Thomas is going to get a lot of looks in the red zone because of his great size?

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

If he's healthy, he'll get a lot of chances in the red zone.

Kelly Hunter (Gillette, Wyoming)

Your thoughts on Matt Cassell? Is he the guy for KC?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

I think we will know this year. This is big year for him,

Chaz (Scranton, PA)

What role will Dexter McCluster have in the Chiefs offense this year? Can we expect Reggie Bush-like production?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

I think he will be a multi-faceted player. He is exciitng.

Jack (Boston)

Are the Broncos a little underrated on offense? simply because nobody expects them to do much. I was pessimistic but have been very impressed with Orton and the 1st string offense especially w/o their RB's.

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

The running backs have to stay healthy and the OL has to develop quickly.

Sergio (Tijuana, Mexico)

Is Larry English a bust or is to early to tell and he's still learning the OLB position?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

Too early, but it time for him to start making a play a two.

Wes (Gastonia)

If you were qb would you rather be throwing to the chargers receivers without jackson or the raiders receivers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Charegers. They are bette and more reliable at this point.

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Charegers. They are bette and more reliable at this point.

James (Charlotte)

With VJax out of the mix, should we expect to see career numbers from Antonio Gates? Or will Floyd and Naanee successfully combine to fill his spot?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

Gates needs to have a huge year and I think he come through big.

Cas (Butte, MT)

If the Chiefs do beat the Chargers on the first game of the season would that really be anything to get excitied about? I would not be a bit surprised if that happened.

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

Oh. it would be a great start to the season and to the new stadium. it would be huge for the Chiefs.

Rick (Long Island, NY)

Hi Bill. Bronco injury updates please: Will Clady, Thomas and Knowshon be ready for the opener? And are they going to IR Elvis or hold out hope he can return down the stretch?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

It's touch and go with the three injured guys. If I had to guess I'd say Clady and Moreno play, but not Thomas. Just a guess.

Bob (Detroit)

Bill, I'm hearing rumors that D. Johnson is falling out of favor in K.C. and that Detroit might be interested in trading for him. Any truth?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

Those rumors have persiseted for a while. I wouldn't be shocked if Gunther Cunningham tried to get him.

neil (clovis, ca)

Bill i have heard all off season about the improvement of DHB and after seeing the preseason games, i definitely see improvement but he still seems to catch with his body rather than his hands and makes other small mistakes. how has his improvement looked to you?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

I think he is a work in progress and it would be naive to think he can carry the offense this season. He's not ready yet.

Hayden (Logan, Utah)

why are people so high on charles? I aint seen him do squat mang

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Did you watch last season? He averaged 5.9 yards a carry. He's special.

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Great hour, everyone. Talk to you next week.
